This is an old stage coach hotel with a hot springs that has amazing water. There is limited service here and you have to bring your own food to cook in their amazing kitchen. They are off the grid and use solar but don't expect wifi etc. bring a book and journal - just enjoy being in their healing waters. read more

A remote of the grid location. A very long drive from Los Angeles but the experience was worth the drive. A relaxing self directed four days soaking in mineral baths with various temperatures. The community kitchen was well stocked and super organized into assigned spaces in refrigerator and storage bins. Staff was cordial and helpful.upon checking. So I did update this review when the whole place burned down while we were guests on Mar 29, 2014. it seems to have mysteriously disappeared. I thought the reviews were controlled to keep businesses from deleting poor performance. Maybe it was just a glitch in the ether..... During this fire fiasco that started in a room on the second floor, I assessed the situation and saw that the fire was rapidly increasing, out of control. With our room on the third floor, I raced up to make sure my wife was not there, and saw other guests trying to pack belongings and then try to descend the three story spiral staircase with all of their stuff. This excess wasted time gathering belongings and carrying them down a spiral staircase was not going to work- fire likes to burn up, and it was right underneath us. Being trained in search and rescue in the military, it was obvious that the only standard way out was going to be engulfed in smoke and flames in minutes. No staff were in any part of the second or third floors, so I had to herd out the guests that were trying to grab their belongings from the third-floor, while the second floor was ready to erupt in flames. When I got the last person to leave, I went and re-checked the third floor perimeter, and came back to the circular stairs, ready to descend. There was too much smoke for me to descend, and as I said, I had already seen flames on the second floor. I ended up going out of our room window, and climbing down a tree to escape the flames. I'm a former Air Force Pararescueman (PJ) so I was trained for this kind of stressful situation. I understand that the owner was not insured for this situation, and unfortunately, we had to bear the burden for all our belongings that were burned up in the fire. Somehow, someway, the Hot Springs was rebuilt within a year, even though they did not have the money to reimburse the guests that lost belongings in the fire. They never thanked me for the effort I put into saving thier guests, yet that's trivial when it comes to my current life as an ER provider. If you plan to stay, Check the easiest way out if there if there is an emergency and ensure that the fire stand points (hydrants) for hooking up fire hoses are in good working order. It did not work when we were there, and after I got down the tree, we guests tried to get it to work with the dilapidated 2-inch hose that was thee for such a calamity, to no avail. The nearest fire resource at that time of the year was in Williams, and took over 45 minutes for firefighters to respond. Since then, we have not gone back due to the risks and the treatment we experienced post-fire by owner and staff. It is a really beautiful place, and has great potential. It's just that our experience was less than good, and please take the risks into consideration for your future stays. read more

Ugh I have been fraught with many feelings about writing this, but as I have gone through the many stages of grief, I am finding my voice. Wilbur was my oasis away from the world, where I could unplug, refresh, reset. But last time we went to Wilbur, we got...bed bugs. We did not see any while there in our private cabin (13) but exactly 7 days after returning home, we got bites. 7 days is the egg lifecycle. I learned more than I wanted to know about bedbugs. The first day we saw bites, I contacted Wilbur manager Greg H to alert him. We then found evidence (casings) under the bed. I confirmed with Greg, yes indeed these are bedbugs & he said they would check the cabin. Here's the thing: you rarely can see bedbugs in the daylight. They hide & come out only at night. If you set a bb trap you might see them. Because the bed and pillows are in cases at Wilbur, we didn't get any bites during our stay. But my dude uses a CPAP for sleep apnea & left the carry case on the floor in the closet. Our bags of clothes & towels were on the desk or on hooks. Best guess is a bug laid eggs in the carry case, then the eggs hatched once we got home. Greg said they didn't see any evidence. Again, they can hibernate and live in the cracks of walls, behind electric outlets. The wood cabins have plenty of narrow cracks to hide in. I pointed out some knowledge I had gained about bedbugs, and urged him to treat the cabin anyway. Silence. We had not traveled anywhere else 5 months before this trip, not even to the movies, and we both work from home. So 99.9% sure we got the bedbugs at Wilbur. That was it. No further communication. No compassion. Nothing. As we focused on treating our house ($2500 for high heat service) and moving everything around in our home to eliminate them, not a word from Wilbur management. I was so heartbroken. I had been going to Wilbur for over 15 years. I have gone there with friends, family, by myself. I loved the natural setting, made friends with many staff, joined chef weekends, yoga, wrote prayers on the tree. My aunt even donated after the 2014 fire because she knew how much I loved it there. That special retreat. Gone. I never heard back from Wilbur, and I still can say the area & springs are lovely but the careless lack of regard or responsibility by the management is the end for me. Tried to call in for a day pass about a week in advance but they said they were sold out of day passes but we could buy a camping pass (which was more expensive, I believe $10 more per person) and then not do the camping and use the pass as a day pass. I truly don't understand this because if it was an occupancy issue then it doesn't change the number of people who are on site at the time, just felt like I was forced to pay $20 extra for the same thing.. not a great feeling The resort itself was not bad, really rugged road to get there so prepare your car to get very dirty. The tubs were okay, lots of bugs but it's nature so you can't really do anything about that and I don't blame them for it. The pool area had a maintenance guy redoing the carpets around the pool so there was a lot of drilling and construction sounds, really disturbed the experience, i feel like they could have had him do it at night or something. Also the no talking policy was not enforced at all, lots of patrons were talking and joking, not loudly but definitely not as quiet as I expected. Overall it was a positive experience since it was my first time at a natural hot spring and it was relaxing but I would opt to try other places next time. read more

Second time visitor. We stayed in one of the cabins last year but decided to try the solar lodge this year. There was some mold in the ceiling in room 1 so we asked to change rooms, but they weren't able to accommodate us. Kind of harshed our mellow. Used to be a place we loved to go. The grounds and the facilities are lovely, off the beaten path with no signal. The waters used to be lovely as well, but that has changed. What used to feel healing now feels a bit toxic. First of all the waters are now an unappealing green color. It is so salty that it actually stings a bit and leaves the skin feeling very sticky. Do not get it on your face. After about 15 minutes, I began to get a rash on my legs and stomach. We decided to leave the same day we came. We will not be back. read more

What can I say about Wilbur Hot Springs? My wife gifted me a solo retreat at Wilbur Hot Springs this holiday season. Although I had heard of W.H.S., I had never been there. I could not have felt more home with the loving attentive staff, the beautiful land, the gathering of our tribes preparing our on meals and of course the hot springs. I have been coming to Wilbur for 12 years and am always so moved by how this place adapts to changes and challenges and becomes renewed, but the heart and essence stays the same. There's been a big fire, a management change, and a pandemic, and every time I have been so worried that Wilbur's spirit will be lost. But it hasn't. It's one of the most cherished things in my life. If you are looking for a "normal" resort experience, you will walk away from Wilbur disappointed. Luckily you have many other choices! Wilbur is rustic and simple and the water is really full of minerals, which means smelly. If gazing deep into your soul with no phones, no camera, while naked and smelling like Satan's backside sounds like it's your thing, then you're one of the chosen ones. If you're game to take responsibility for co-creating something truly amazing that you can't experience anywhere else, if you have the courage to spend time in silence and approach whatever "sacred" means to you while your body works out what it needs to work out, if you're thrilled by nature and meeting kind souls from different walks of life, and you get a kick out of being off the grid - then maybe this will become one of your homes in this world like it has for me. This place is most enjoyable if you can let go and trust the process. What a great place to steam and chill! You can find solitude or you can find community in this remote, minimalist environment. A nicely curated library for your perusal by people who work and live there. Too bad such a generous communal system cannot exist in every society... Although the clothing optional part might not go over too well! Of course there is only nudity around the water, and you may find it wearing a bathing suit into the natural springs no longer feel necessary. WARNING! If you are not comfortable with public nudity, this IS NOT the place for you! It's labeled as clothing optional, but really, 75% of the folks behind the divider were nekid. Now that that's said, the actual review. I chose to bring my wife and I to a hot springs because 1) we've never been before and I wanted to go on an adventure with her 2) My wife has battled some pain issues, and Wilber talked about the healing properties of the waters on their website. So, my first impressions. The road to get there is off the beaten path - it's dirt and mud once you pull off the main highway. Definitely not for low ride cars. We have a small SUV and had to make effort to avoid rather large pot holes all the way. Lots of mud, too. Hope you don't care about your car gettin dirty However, the scenery is beautiful. Lots of nice spots for pictures. Once you get to the property, they have an old school gate that you have to unlatch and move to get in. Nothing automatic about this place, they're off grid. Once you get to the buildings, you go to the main one with the small parking lot to check in. Seeing as my wife and I were there on a day pass, they gave us a parking tag and told us we had to park about a quarter mile away, and walk back. No big deal - unless somebody in your party can't make the walk. And now the fun part - opposite the main building are some wall dividers. That's where the waters are. It's also where A LOT of nakedness is. This was initially shocking. We thought a person here or there would be.... But no. Most people go to the waters sans clothing. Whatever. We were not there for them, we wanted to soak! And lemme tell ya.... The water is NICE. The first part is a roofed section with three small pools of circulating water, each hotter than the next. Awesome. Though the 110 degree pool is just Bought uncomfortable till you get used to it. I liked how they had sturdy hand rails on the wall, with steps down into it. Although, they say this section is a quiet area... talking is discouraged here. To talk, you gotta go outside. Going past this section you come to a large swimming pool. All the water is green - they say it's due to all the minerals in the water. However, many pictures posted show blue water in the big pool ... I have a feeling the pool needed to be cleaned it was still a nice temperature change though. Nice and cool - about 85 degrees, I'd guess. Next to the pool is a small "hot tub" where you can converse if you like. Also has a handrail to get in. The temperature is probably about 105, if I'd have to guess. The have lots of wooden furniture outside as well, a gazebo area, and a sauna. But see, the thing is, something uncomfortable happened.... And I'm not talking about the nakedness. People were foolish around in the waters, out in front of everyone. I'm taking third base, if not a home run. Apparently, this is acceptable here... Though my wife and I, being more conservative, didn't think it was. We are not voyers. We came for the waters, not to be treated to public sexual display. That part made us downright uncomfortable. So...to conclude... The waters were awesome! The actual facilities were amazing! The people there.... Not so much. Not for the faint of heart or those with more conservative mindset. Getting there - I used Google Maps on iPhone and it worked just fine. Be sure to download the map data at home as there is no cell reception not only on the premises but also soon after getting off of highway. Water - this is the kind of water I've known of as hot springs (onsen) in Japan. It contains sulfur - looks green and feels a little slimy. It smells the same if you've been to a volcano. If you prefer clear odor-free water, this place is not for you. Flumes - clothing is optional and 95% people forgo the option. If you are not comfortable, going there during night time might be a good idea. They only maintain minimal lighting at night. Flumes and the pool are open 24/7. I didn't see any loud and annoying folks there, but I'd understand it can happen. At the same time, it's impractical to enforce the rule by something like an on-site guard or a surveillance camera. Cabin - I stayed in a cabin. It looked new, probably built within 5 years ago. They don't give you a key. You can lock the door from inside, but you'll have to leave it unlocked when you are away. I don't think there is anything to worry about in this isolated place, but if you are not comfortable, use your car as a vault. There are electric outlets in the room, but the shape of plugs are different, so that I guess only their staff can use them with a special adapter. Some hardwood floor panels have already developed huge gaps. They were probably installed incorrectly. Food - during the Covid-19 restrictions, guests are not allowed to use the communal kitchen. Instead, they have on-site chef and serve 3 meals a day with $44. The quality was extremely good. I hope they'll keep this meal program even after the Covid-19. read more

I have been a long time Orr Hot Springs guest and was excited to check out Wilbur. I live out of state and knew there were wildfires not at the hot Springs but a county over. I called multiple times and left messages and checked email and Wilbur website to see if there was information re: air quality etc. The website mentioned blue skies and as we drive up there the sky was orange and smoke filled with ash pouring down. At this point we'd driven too far and needed somewhere to stay. I find it extremely disheartening that Wilbur was unwilling to be transparent about the air quality so I could have made an informed decision to not travel up there just to need my inhaler all night. There were hardly any staff or guests so clearly the experience of "health and healing" that is part of this place was compromised. I've emailed asking for a refund. If I don't get one I will not come back but instead go to Orr which DID have a big notification on its website about the air quality. I'm really hoping they make this right. It looks like a wonderful place to stay. The waters were relaxing and rooms were decent but the air was filled w smoke and ash. My car was covered in ash it almost felt like it was snowing at night. And there was a sign reading "the smoke and ash is from Mendocino county, there is no need for concern" NO NEED FOR CONCERN??? THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON WEBSITE OR EMAILED. I have heard about this place and finally decided to check it out. I purchased a day pass as I did not want to commit any further until I got an idea of what I was in for. Let's start off with trying to get here. Phones and navigation equipment will not work so your navigation skills will need to be on point or you will need to printout directions prior for reference. After pulling over several times on 20 and doubling back a couple of times to refer to my nonworking google map. I finally was able to figure out the exit which I totally passed up the first time (Bear Valley Road). This road to me was a concern. The road is unpaved and you're driving on rocks and gravel. God forbid you have an accident or some sort of emergency, there is no way to call and get help. Now, I realize the website notes this place being off the grid which I can totally appreciate, but I feel there should be provisions for emergency's like paved roads and an emergency call box in case you need to call for help. This to me was very unsettling and almost made me want to turn around and leave. (Strike one) I finally made it and checked in for my day pass. I brought a bag lunch so I went to the dining area to eat it. Its a cute rustic area with a kitchen, lounge area with books and guitars and plenty of tables and chairs. Since I was only going to be there for a few hours, I had no interest in cooking a meal. I really wish this place offered meals or some sort of food. (Strike two) Now the main event, the hot springs. I will say I definitely appreciated the quiet here with minimal people so it almost felt like I had the place to myself. After trekking from the parking lot to the pools on what felt like eternity (due to the temps being over 100 at this point) I began my soak. The cold plunge tub was not cold, so it was unfortunate that I could not do my hot/cold/hot cold series of soaks which to me is the whole point of soaking; to have the alternate hot cold experience. The 3 flumes were nice and the mineral/sulfer content I enjoyed. The pool was nice and cool which I used as the "cold plunge" since there actual "cold plunge" was not cold but rather 80 degrees. (Strike 3) It was a relaxing atmosphere overall and I did appreciated the quiet. As the day progressed, I developed a huge headache despite staying in the shade all day and drinking plenty of water. By the time I left I felt horrible and I couldn't wait to leave. I realized that this place is not for me and I will continue going to my old faithful which is Harbin. read more

Absolutely lovely place. The drive up was bumpy because it was an 8 mile dirt road. It lightly snowed on the way there which made it more whimsical. We reached the Wilbur Gate, and had to get out to open and close it to enter the resort. We parked at the temporary parking to check in, and placed our food in the kitchen (there are assigned refrigerators for use during your stay). Then drove to the long term parking. You can drive up to the solar lodge/ cabins to unload before going to long term parking, but we didn't. We stayed at the cabins. The cabins are clean and modern, but since they are off grid, the only place to charge anything with a normal outlet is in the library in the main building. The flumes (spa sulfur baths) are nice, but you'll have to be okay with other people and you being naked in front of other people. The showers are outside with shampoo & body wash included, next to the baths, it's pretty cold to shower there before and after the baths and then walking back to the cabin. Cooking at the communal kitchen was new to me. There are two types of guests; friendly and talkative or quiet/ introverted. We walked from the cabin to the geyser, about 1/4-1/2 mile. The geyser water is hot, and just so lovely to watch. I believe the geyser spouts at certain times of the day like clock work. I saw it spout hot sulfur water around 11:00 AM. There is an outdoor bath next to the spring, not sure if you can use it. It was not maintained when I was there in February. This natural geyser water goes directly from the geyser to the flumes, 100% authentic sulfur geothermal water! The nature preserve was nice walk and easy hike in the morning. If you go the opposite of the nature preserve, the river, outdoor patio and Wilbur Springs Road Bridge 1910 is a nice short walk. There were birds and rabbits amidst the frozen scape. If you walk through the bath area, there is outdoor seating past the sauna, keep going away from the main building, and go up, there is a nice view of the bath area, if you go up some more, there is a yoga studio. The library in the main building was a nice cozy spot to relax and read a book, and the only place to charge electronics with 4 usb outlets. There is a fire stove/place there to keep warm. There is a nice spa shop where you can purchase the sulfur bath salts from the fountain of life geyser, clothes, snacks, drinks and other goods. No outdoor shoes allowed in the shop or inside main building though! So remember to bring your own slippers (reason because it's muddy outside and don't want it tracked all over the building). If you go past the temporary parking between the long term parking, the solar lodge is up on the hill. It has an outdoor swing. Nice view all around. Decor in the solar lodge and everywhere else is very whimsical. It was a very different experience than with Japanese Onsen, which are enclosed with amenities, but the water gets piped down from I don't know where. Wilbur hot springs have direct geyser to flumes and is more like luxury camping spa, because there aren't any amenities. You have to bring your own food, towels, slippers, toiletries, etc. (shampoo & body wash available in the outdoor shower). If you book the spa days with a guest chef, meals are included, which is more like a vacation and pricer. we didn't book the guest chef days, so we just used the kitchen to cook our own meals. there is a camping option available as well, it's a much cheaper option, but we didn't try that. All in all, Wilbur hot spring resort gave us respite from daily city life and social media (since there's no reception there) and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. read more

I have been to Wilbur Hot Springs to attend yoga retreats with Sarana Miller. It's an amazing retreat, with yoga that calms and aligns the mind and body, and fabulous meals. (Usually you have to prepare your own meals at Wilbur.) I enjoy afternoon walks in the nature preserve, and end my evenings with a soak in the hot springs. It's such a relaxing time at Wilbur, particularly since it's off the grid with no cell phone reception or internet. The spring is my favorite season there, with green hills and glorious wildflowers. Note that the hot springs are clothing optional, although most people do not wear clothes. read more

My husband and I had a very relaxing weekend here. We stayed in Room 24 which has a sink. The shared bathroom was just outside our room. It was clean even though it's a public bathroom for anyone to use. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The heater worked great. I used ear plugs as I'm a light sleeper, and you can hear people outside in the dining area from the room. We hiked, biked, soaked, got massages, and did the guided meditation with Anya. We played scrabble, ping pong, and pool. Other guests were nice and mostly keep to themselves. It was interesting to watch people cook in the kitchen. We don't like to cook so ate simple things like frozen pizza, but I enjoyed watching other people make their elaborate meals. The highlight of our trip were the wild horses we encountered during the hike. They came up to us. The brown one is the alpha, and he tried to bite my husband's arm! We wanted to feed them, but didn't since they're wild animals and should not rely on humans food. The staff is nice. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the employees. The lady at the front desk was welcoming and professional. She gave us a thorough orientation since it was our first time. The guys checking pool temperatures smiled. All staff were professional like a reputable business operates. We did go naked into the waters. We brought our bathing suits but took them off when we saw most people (including young people like us) were naked. Some people were wearing bathing suits. What a Magical place, where you can experience different temperature hot tubs and pools in an open serene space in basically the wilderness of Northern California. The community kitchen provides kitchenware, eating space is spacious and property is overall clean. We were lucky to have some hipsters playing & sharing their music. The property also has a hiking areas...and a secret tub near the geyser (Thus was the best highlight of our day) It was definitely beautiful after the rain in cold crisp air of December. I love you Wilbur Hot Springs. I'm a very connected person and when I was told that I wouldn't have internet, cell reception, or anywhere to plug in my electronic equipment...my heart sank to my stomach. What was I going to do with all my time? But it was beautiful, absolutely what I needed. Silence, reading, bike-riding, hiking, and painting the lovely, lovely scenery all around. If you are ever looking for some tranquility and a escape from the rat race...this is PERFECT. Useful tips: No blowdryers or any plug-ins really. The staff will charge some things for you if you ask very nicely No AC, it's 100% solar powered. Not a problem when we went, but just know that it gets hot in the summer, so you prob won't be staying in your room during the day. But there's a library, and so many wonderful places to chill around here. Bring your own food. They have a great communal kitchen for cooking. And really delicious, freshly popped popcorn for the guests. They have pans/plates/cuttery/etc and all the spices you'll need. But don't forget to bring olive oil or butter for cooking your food! Bring a hairband if you have longer hair. The spring water apparently can undo your perm, so I'm not sure it's that great for your hair in general. Clothing optional at the hotsprings Baths are open all night. So take a dip late at night and check out the breath-taking stars! Only showers are by the Hot Springs and bathrooms are communal by floors. Wasn't a big deal when we came. They have complimentary bikes to do bike rides. Really fun! =) Bring sunscreen...on hot days, the sun is pretty brutal here. No photos of the baths area, for obvious reasons^_^. Explore the areas surrounding Wilbur! It's beautiful. Babbling brooks, grazing deer, wildflowers. I loved it. The accommodations are simple and rustic. Do not come here expecting fancy accommodations! If that's what you want, go to Napa. Wilbur is more of a retreat and places emphasis on simplicity and enjoying beauty of nature and the wonderful hot springs. This isn't to say that the hot springs area wasn't absolutely beautiful! Just got back from a lovely stay at Wilbur. I've been to Harbin and Orr too (love both, especially Harbin which feels like a second home to me) and Wilbur was a nice change of scene to discover a new hot spring. Comparatively, Wilbur is one of the quietest since only about 30 guests total stay on the property (vs. what feels like 50-60 total at Orr and sometimes hundreds at Harbin)- this might change as they do more construction post fire to rebuild but at least for now it feels very private and you can get a lot of alone time and space. Accommodations: We stayed in the solar lodge room #7. I really liked the loft bed with a pretty view of the mountains. Bed was comfy and I like the mini communal living room with fire furnace and books/magazines. Compared to Harbin it is pricey though, the rooms feel in very close quarters to each other and they don't have locks (don't think theft is an issue here like it is unfortunately at Harbin but still a good heads up). Kitchen: Very clean and well equipped (like Orr and both are nicer then Harbin). People were whipping up some imressive dishes including fresh pasta. Note this kitchen allows meat (like Orr, unlike Harbin which is veg only). Make sure to bring your own food since unlike Harbin there is no restaurant or market (they have a very limited selection of snacks at front desk). On the drive over, you pass Fully Belly Farms, which supplies produce to some of SF's best restaurants - if you place an order the day before and drive up during the day, you can pick up seasonal produce en route. Dining area: Pretty nice dining room and great outdoor picnic tables abound. My favorite indoor eating area is at Orr, which feels very romantic, though all boast great outdoor picnic spots. Hot Springs: I really liked the flumes!! They were very different than Harbin and Orr and situated in a Japanese zen style environment. I especially liked it before sunrise and after sunset where it gets really steamy on the outside. It doesn't have the extreme hot like Harbin but the hottest flume is pretty hot!!! Note: There is an additional hot spring just under 0.5 mile walk near the geyser - this was totally spectacular - hidden gem not to be missed! Grounds: Very expansive - we only stayed for a day so didn't cover nearly all the trails but we did see the geyser, wishing tree, and windchime forest (so fun!). Make sure to venture around since there is plenty of hiking. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. My favorite is still Harbin b/c of the extreme temperatures of the pools, the magic cold plunge under the fig tree, the stunning yoga studio and classes 3x/day by incredible teachers, and it's a killer deal. Wilbur Hot Springs - Magical open hot spring near geyser - not to be missed! - Health Retreats Near Me - Williams, California

I went to Wilbur to celebrate my birthday, after all there isn't anything better than celebrating your birthday swimming and sunbathing in your birthday suit. Getting there wasn't too bad, it is somewhat remote but GPS got me there with no problems but I had printed out directions just in case. I stayed in the Cabin, which wasn't anything that special. It was nice to have my own bathroom, the cabin has lights, but no power outlets and the room was smaller than a typical hotel room. I would definitely recommend bringing a warm blanket, especially if you are coming in the winter time. The kitchen is great, everything I needed was there, everything is very well labeled, and although it gets busy during meal times, it never felt crowded. There are plenty of spots to eat both outside and inside. There are games and a library near the kitchen, which I probably would have taken more advantage if I was staying there for more than two nights. Wilbur has lots of bikes, but I didn't use them since they looked difficult to ride on the gravel road and I generally prefer to walk. Walking along the road and creek was nice. I also hiked some of the trails, but did not enjoy the large number of bugs that seemed to constantly pester me. The real reason to come to Wilbur is the hot springs. The swimming area is set up nice, although ideally the main gravel road wouldn't be located so close to the hot springs. Some guest seem to leave towels on some of the better spots which can be annoying, but there were plenty of seats and benches. There are three showers, and a changing room and plenty of hooks to hang up your towel. The showers have soap, shampoo, hot and cold water. There is a cold plunge near the showers, which consists of a bathtub, and definitely qualifies as cold. There are three flumes in the covered area, and outside of that below the main deck, there is a large pool and a smaller conversation pool. There is also "pool #6" in their nature preserve next the geyser, which is about a 15 minute walk from the main pools. I tried all the pools, and overall, I was disappointed in the temperature of the pools, because of how hot they were, and unfortunately you don't get to change their temperatures. The coldest flume (100 degrees) was good and I can see how some people can handle the middle flume (105 degrees), although I saw one woman's back bright red after getting out of it, but nobody was ever sitting in the hottest flume. Pool #6 was also too hot for me and I couldn't last more than 5 minutes in it. The conversation pool is also on the hotter side, but some guests seemed to enjoy it. The big pool is where I spent a lot of time, even though it had a considerable amount of bugs. During the hotter times of the day, I wish the big pool was colder, but in the early morning and at night it is terrific. At one end of the big pool, the hot water is pumped and it gets colder near the other end so you can relax in the spot you feel most comfortable in or just swim around. At night, the lighting is nice (not too bright, but not too dim) both around the pool and along the pathway from the cabin, although some people may want to bring a light with them, but it isn't really necessary. The pools are open 24 hours for overnight guests and I took advantage of a middle of the night swim with the place all to myself and the stars as my company. The swim area is clothing optional but almost everyone is nude (I only saw one couple keep their bathing suits on and some women just went topless). You will see naked people, so if that bothers you, you should not visit. I can understand if you are nervous about being naked around strangers, but it really isn't a real big deal and going at night or taking your bathing suit off after you get in the pool might be an easy way for a first timer to try it out. I enjoy sunbathing and swimming naked, and I felt comfortable being naked, but nobody really cares if you are naked or not. Everyone was respectful of each other and I never felt like anyone was staring at my naked body. The pools seemed busiest just before lunchtime but it never felt crowded. The biggest negatives for me were that the pools were on the hotter side, the price is pretty high, and there were a fair amount of bugs. I wouldn't want to visit here during the summer or do a day pass, but I may try this place again in a few more years during the winter months. read more

This is NOT a resort, but totally worth it! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wilbur and will definitely be back! The place was very peaceful, and staff was very friendly and helpful when we were lost at first. The waters felt amazing, and the lack of WiFi/signal helped us unwind from the daily rat race. THAT SAID.. If this is your first time visiting here or first time visiting an Onsen in general, THIS IS NOT YOUR SPRING BREAK RESORT! The place was absolutely amazing! But some of the younger people here were completely disrespectful, and nearly spoiled our mood. There was some stupid girls who jumped into the mineral pools, as if it was a hotel pool or something. I swear that everyone in the flumes were annoyed too at their stupidity and lack of respect for maintaining the peaceful nature of the place. If they happen to be reading this.. SERIOUSLY, HOW DUMB CAN YOU GUYS BE?! We went during Covid and really appreciate Wilbur and their staff for upholding their new Covid policies. However, there was also a group of friends who occupied the whole communal kitchen, standing way too close to us; hovering over our prepared food in the kitchen; occupying the stovetop that had a sign displayed that clearly stated to not use the space (in order to offer adequate social distance); using and leaving numerous kitchen pots and equipments all over the place, then leaving them on the prep station to come back to later; also leaving their stuff all over the communal area couches like it was their personal cabin... Seriously guys, if you guys plan to come to this paradise, don't spoil it by disrespecting Onsen etiquette or acting however you please. read more

The room had a nasty strong odor and with no toilet in the room. Because of this unsatisfied experience, we left the day before. Not only was it uncomfortable, but not functional. The outlet in the room did not operate, no internet, the staff is rude. The door could not lock and when we told them, all they said there is no keys or locks. Wilbur is one of my favorite places on Earth. Every time I arrive I feel an immediate release. The grounds and waters are so healing. I find myself getting caught in the amazing "return to yourself" discount (if you return within 30 days you get a discount) and love it!! I cannot wait until my next trip up. Don't recommend! Expensive and bad place/customer service. Came here with my mom to spend the day. On their website they say that since there's no food available for purchase, they have a community kitchen that's available for everyone to cook at. We brought food for cooking, and, when we got there we were informed that the kitchen was being used for an event and was unavailable. We had to improvise with snacks and had to leave earlier without enjoying the full day we paid for (and it's not cheap!). When I complained about, I got no explanations as to why I wasn't informed that the kitchen wouldn't be available at the day of my reservation, nor attempts to make it up to me. This property is beautiful and the water is nice but its hard to enjoy when you are severely dehydrated and have heat stroke. I would not recommend it here, especially if it is over 70. For $300-$400 a night you get a trailer with a lame ceiling fan. There is NO AC even though it can reach temperatures over 100 regularly in the summer months and they do not even offer extra fans. Our kitchen also had a mouse who ate our food and left mouse droppings everywhere. When I talked to customer service about this I was told the manager would get back to us but she never did--we just got a few free chocolates. read more

I agree with the other reviews, beautiful space, but ridiculously overpriced, poor accommodations, unfriendly staff, terribly smelly waters, and a really rough reservation system. Let's start from the top: 1 Overpriced? Well, for just $300, you get to stay at the 80% cinderblock "Lodge" (when I hear lodge I think wood, not puke-yellow painted cinderblocks) with no towels, no showers, no private bathrooom, and oh yeah, no heater in your room, and no decor whatsoever. When I called the staff (who seemed bothered that I was even calling) to see if our freezing room could get any warmer, they told me they do not have space heaters, and I should "leave my door open so heat comes in from the hallway." Seriously? That and the bed looked like something from my grandma's house, DOES NOT make for a romantic getaway, that's for sure. It's clear this establishment is here to make money off you and not much else. 2. Unfriendly staff: The staff mainly seems to be there to enforce their incredibly strict rules, rather than make your stay any better. We parked where it clearly says "20 minute parking" and just wanted to check out the pools to see what they looked like, before someone told us we HAD to move our car. We also got in at 10pm the previous night, and went I asked if we could stay just an hour later than their 5pm cuttoff (after all, this is $300 dollars) the lady at the front said absolutely no way. They say "leave your worries at the door" but when you're worried about getting out of your room, out of the kitchen, and out of the site at the right time, it ends of being pretty stressful. oh yeah, and their bikes are not maintained. After halfway through our bike ride, mine broke, making us walk back the entire way. 3. Smelly waters: I've been to a lot of different hot springs, and these are by far the smelliest waters I've ever encountered, and the entire pool is green (and not warm at night either). I felt like the ammonia was stinging my nostrils. They say "no waters like these" but it's definitely not in a good way. My favorite part of the day was taking a shower at the pools to get the smell and slime off of me. 4. Making a reservation with them is also hell. In short, they lost my reservation, then denied it. Also, although is says on the website and on the EMAILS THEY SEND YOU that you can reserve via email, the only way to actually reserve a room is to call them and give them your credit card over the phone. anyways it's a shame because this place has a lot of potential. read more

Oh, to be or not to be...relaxed, naked, and free. No second thought needed there... My partner and I stopped here on a Monday during our 5 year anniversary trip. We'd gone to a hot springs before (somewhere in Nevada). We did the day use ($57) since we were staying in Oakland with a friend. This was such a great experience all around, except for two suggestions that I have for Wilbur below. We got there around 11am from a very scenic drive and went straight to the hot/cold tubs. We chilled and read for a few hours then used their ample kitchen facility for lunch. Went on a cool bike ride afterwards (they have bikes you can borrow) and then came back for another quick dip. It was a nice combination of chill time plus a little bike adventure. Two suggestions: -They should clearly state any potential increases online. They increased the price to $62 since it was post-Easter (but we didn't see this online) -They should consider extending the "day's use" to after 5. A "day's use" ends at 5. Since we got there at 11am it felt more like an afternoon use (but they weren't too uptight about us leaving at 5:20ish). read more
