My birthday was coming up and I felt like I needed a break from life for a few days in a peaceful and relaxing environment.  I had been on a yoga retreat before and decided to do another one for my birthday. I looked up different yoga/meditation retreats and I came across this place on Book Retreats.com After reading the description I knew this was the perfect one for me. After I booked it the guest director called me to get more info and after speaking with him I felt like this retreat would be a perfect fit. The location is very peaceful and serene. The food is healthy and delicious at the same time!!! Shout out to all the chefs there!!! The staff are all awesome. Everyone made me feel welcomed and ensured I had a great experience. They even made me a chocolate cake for my birthday! It was an amazing and life changing experience. I feel very refreshed and rejuvenated.  If you feel like you need a break from the normal everyday hustle and bustle of life or just looking to rest and relax in a peaceful environment, come visit the Eros Monastery!

When first arriving on The Land, the magic of the property is palpable, morning dew on the grassy fields... cats, ducks, and goats roaming... the smell of a hearty breakfast cooking in the lodge...and the rare experience of silence and stillness in the air. The Land provides the physical space to go internal and be in deep meditative practice as well as opportunity for community and connection with other committed practitioners. Adjacent to the Hendy Woods, the Land backs up to miles of hiking trails, is bordered by a flowing creek, and has a luscious flower and vegetable garden, giving the nervous system an array of natural landscapes to soak into. During the stay, let yourself be nourished by a rainbow assortment of seasonal local foods cooked with love. Fill up your body and soul with this generous offering. The cabins and houses are both rustic and pristine, with white bedding and comfortable beds, allowing for physical restoration and holding. I have had the opportunity to spend time on the Land for retreats and for my solo-practice and always leave feeling more physically and spiritually connected and restored.

My husband and I went for a couple of nights and stayed in a cabin. It's really beautiful with nearby trails for wandering in nature. The community that works there was very welcoming and the shared meals were healthy & delicious. It's just outside of the tiny town of Philo where there's a winery, small grocery store and Mexican restaurant, but you're likely to stay on site at the retreat center most of the time. There's a massive garden and a pool (which we didn't use since it's more of a cold plunge in the winter months).

There's no place like this serene utopia of a gem. I have been a couple times for different events. One was a retreat and all my needs were beyond handled. I am a foodie and The Land exceeded my expectations (what a fabulous kitchen!) It's a place to go to reset, unplug, find your center and breathe in nature. I stayed in a cabin both times and you just can't beat it. I'll be back!

The Land is the antidote to every crazy thing going on in the world. It's a throwback to everything that is meaningful in life that we've sacrificed at the altar of productivity and commerce. I had moments of sublime happiness at the Land that I haven't experienced anywhere else. I don't know if it's the immersion in nature, the sense of community or the deep teaching that is part of what happens on the Land, but it is a transformational experience that begins literally as soon as you cross the bridge onto the property. Until you are there - it's hard to quite grasp the magic that wraps itself around you and adjusts the frequency of your nervous system to a timbre you once knew but barely remember. It's the incredible, organic nourishing food and what it does to your body. It's seeing a sky full of stars at night and thinking "is this here ALL the time? How have I NOT seen it? It's the natural beauty and feeling like a steward of nature. It's helping clean up in the kitchen after a meal with the music blasting and new friends dancing. It's being around animals. It's the programs and the practices. It's the people you meet on The Land. It's who you are after and bringing that back into the world.

Go to the Land! I've visited a handful of times. Each time, it surprises me how fun and nourishing the experience is. Between spending time in the beautiful (and big!) garden, to the healthy & delicious meals, and the incredible backdrop of the Northern California woods, I always leave with a full cup. The last time I came, I brought some friends because I've loved my experience spending time on the Land so much. None of us wanted to leave after our week there. I highly recommend spending time in this NorCal oasis and getting loved up by both the land and wonderful people that live here.

Beautiful gardens. Immaculately cared for property. Truly stunning. It's a sanctuary that serves delicious food and has so much to offer. A dozen curated cabins lay across the sweeping grounds complemented with amenities like a hot yoga studio, meditation classroom, large lodge that could host 60 or more, and a picturesque former-barn-studio. The whole property is adjacent a gorgeous river with trails that will take you directly to old growth redwood forests. Had an incredible time during my stay.

I have had the privilege of many long stays at The Land over many different seasons. From swimming in the cool clear Navarro River in summer, to cozying up by the fire during the torrential rains of winter, to harvest time and planting time- The Land offers full spectrum beauty. I could feel the care in every corner- if you search closely there are little altars tucked away that remind you to pause and appreciate nature and the moment. The accommodations are simple and clean. Matthew the chef's food often left me speechless. Which I guess is ideal when your mouth is full of his food! I could go on and on- it's literal heaven on Earth and I cannot wait to go back.

I have just left the Land. Probably for the 20th time. And I will be back. She is beautiful and rustic and calm. Just thinking now about her cool, sun-dappled wooded trails along the river, her towering redwoods, darting and soaring birds, wildflowers, cozy cabins, delicious food, and friendly folk, has already started a yearning in me to return -- in the not to distant future. I love the nutrients she provides. So yes I will be back. And she is always welcoming.

Embrace, Saturate, Elevate The Land is a beautiful retreat center that caters to practitioners of all kinds, and to anyone looking to connect with themselves and nature.  I've been to yoga retreats, meditation retreats, really all kinds of things, but The Land's Eros Monastery program is the one that feeds my soul most deeply. Sometimes I like to take some breathing space from my everyday routine to renew my sense of being connected to something bigger than me.  I like the fact that The Land program has a sense of purpose. There's so much happening there, from non-profits to plug into that feed people beautiful food that I got to help prepare, as well as talks and salons centered around not just interesting but truly life-giving topics. They have a Tibetan Buddhist teacher named Kathleen who leads a bunch of events and a curriculum that appealed to me. They call it "Eros" but don't let the name give you the wrong impression. For me, it means becoming intimate with life and thats exactly what I need when I go on retreat. On my handful of stays, I've met many people, many of whom have blossomed into friendships that will last a life time. All in a beautiful setting with delicious nutrient rich food. I make it a point to get to The Land Eros Monastery on a regular basis to recharge. When I return home from my retreats on The Land I can feel my life has been enriched. At The Land I get to return to my roots.  I remember what it is all about.  I see who I truly am in this world.  I tap into my playful deepest self and I bring that with me into the world. Thank you to The Land for creating what is truly needed in the world, and for opening your doors for us to share it all with you.

Flowers in the garden

I arrived for a week long retreat at The Land not quite sure what to expect. I was amazed at the beauty of the land, the facilities and the warm receptive container of connection that greeted me! I stayed in one of the very comfortable and well appointed glamping tents in a cozy grove of trees and partook of the scrumptious meals in the community lodge just a short walk away. There are multiple opportunities for hiking if you are so inclined but the best part were the classes, yoga and meditation offerings to be had in each day. I spent time in the gardens - 2 acres of flowers, orchards and veggies with places to sit and enjoy the quiet in contemplation, or get your hands dirty in the soil. All in all a splendid week that wasn't nearly long enough and I already have plans to return! Cherry

I spent a glorious week on The Land this spring. It was so magical, from the wildlife to nature, to home-cooked meals and the activities offered, such as yoga, meditation, and sutra studies. I never wanted to leave! I was trained in OM in 2020 but have been out of practice. When I arrived, it was explained that I could choose to OM or not. I have loved my experiences with the practice so far, and I wanted to explore it. It was great. I felt safe, comfortable, well-held, and cared for every step of the way!

The house is spacious, with huge windows and a lovely wood-burning fireplace where we made s'mores, sipped hot chocolate and drank plenty of wine. At night, we could see the Milky Way from the front porch before heading off to our cosy, clean rooms, which looked exactly like the photos. We also made good use of the fully-stocked kitchen and the cast-iron pots and pans were perfect for hopping john and pancakes on New Year's day. Although we did not get to meet Dennis and Lesley, they were very responsive by email and phone and were accommodating of our dogs and check-in/out times. They do have a cat (Boots, I believe), who was not around while we were around, but whose lingering presence those of us with cat allergies could feel - the house was spotless but cat hairs are invisible and persistent, so just be forewarned if you're allergic. Every detail, from the freshly cut flowers inside the room to the garden and living room in the main house, is purposeful and elegant. I also should mention the food, which is excellent! The culture of the Anderson Valley gracefully comes through with every bite. In fact, the food alone is worth the trip. I have been to many Michelin-rated restaurants. While the meal might not be accompanied by the chef's life story, everything about the food, the dining atmosphere, and the local ingredients is every bit Michelin quality. A few other tidbits: Kid friendly, plenty of space to play in the backyard, but no games, no pool. The sister restaurant, Offspring at the Farrer Building, across the street has the same food, but also pizza and a few other kid friendly options. Two onsite EV charging stations. But what made it truly unforgettable was Rachel and her incredible team. From the very beginning, Rachel made everything feel easy. She's organized, intuitive, calm, and somehow manages to be both laid-back and on top of every detail. I never felt overwhelmed, never stressed. I fully trusted her, and that trust paid off a thousand times over. The florals were perfect--gorgeous but not fussy, exactly in tune with the setting and the vibe we'd envisioned. Her staff was so kind and attentive, and the whole event flowed effortlessly thanks to their care and presence. Guests kept commenting on how beautiful everything was, but also how relaxed and fun the day felt. There was no pretense or pressure--just love, laughter, tacos (SO GOOD), and pure joy. Rachel also helped us source our hair and makeup artist (who was amazing), our dessert vendor (adorable and delicious), and even supported our late-night In-N-Out plan. She managed every piece of the puzzle with grace and humor, and made sure we got to actually enjoy our wedding day. (Which we did. Fully. With Palomas. And a piano man. And guacamole on my dress.) We've joked with our guests about making this an annual thing, and honestly? We might not be joking. Yokayo is that special. We live FT in The Sea Ranch so Harbor House is an easy drive and it's like having our own neighborhood Michelin star resort and dining in the hood. Lunch was as good as I remember it. We started with a raw smoked trout stater and it was gently smoked which kept the trout firm and with only a hint of the curing process. Their freshly made bread followed and that kelp churned butter is to die for. The next two courses were a poached black cod in a home made miso sauce that was a lesson in how to ferment properly ! Delicious. The pork loin followed and I must admit it was a little tough - perhaps not rested enough post cooking or just a little over. The dish had teenie tiny wasabi leaves among all the veggies and greens on the plate and they really imparted a lovely natural zinginess...desert was some sort of a custard with a thin meringue and some other wonderfulness that made the whole thing refreshing but not too sweet and a lovely end to the meal. It was our 34th anniversary and we had made it a point to mention it when we made the reservation but they didn't even stick a candle in the dessert they gave us as a part of the meal...which seemed a missed opportunity IMHO. Just saying, we eat out quite a bit and most of the time not to celebrate anything special so it's nice when an establishment makes mention and notice of it in some way... We had the wine pairings ($100/each) along with the five course lunch ($150/each) and they do a nice job with the pairings, mainly featuring nice Italian varietals and of course some local favorites from the area - like Baxter (Pinot) and a dessert style wine that was very nice and not something I would have normally thought to order on my own. The grounds are as beautiful as always and now that spring has sprung and the flowers on their grounds are in full bloom and the beach area is starting to take on that summer sheen - it was a stellar afternoon once again. We will be keeping this place on regular rotation for sure and we look forward to our next meal later this summer when the tomatoes are ripe and the fruits and vegetables are in all their glory !
