My birthday was coming up and I felt like I needed a break from life for a few days in a peaceful and relaxing environment.  I had been on a yoga retreat before and decided to do another one for my birthday. I looked up different yoga/meditation retreats and I came across this place on Book Retreats.com After reading the description I knew this was the perfect one for me. After I booked it the guest director called me to get more info and after speaking with him I felt like this retreat would be a perfect fit. The location is very peaceful and serene. The food is healthy and delicious at the same time!!! Shout out to all the chefs there!!! The staff are all awesome. Everyone made me feel welcomed and ensured I had a great experience. They even made me a chocolate cake for my birthday! It was an amazing and life changing experience. I feel very refreshed and rejuvenated.  If you feel like you need a break from the normal everyday hustle and bustle of life or just looking to rest and relax in a peaceful environment, come visit the Eros Monastery!

When first arriving on The Land, the magic of the property is palpable, morning dew on the grassy fields... cats, ducks, and goats roaming... the smell of a hearty breakfast cooking in the lodge...and the rare experience of silence and stillness in the air. The Land provides the physical space to go internal and be in deep meditative practice as well as opportunity for community and connection with other committed practitioners. Adjacent to the Hendy Woods, the Land backs up to miles of hiking trails, is bordered by a flowing creek, and has a luscious flower and vegetable garden, giving the nervous system an array of natural landscapes to soak into. During the stay, let yourself be nourished by a rainbow assortment of seasonal local foods cooked with love. Fill up your body and soul with this generous offering. The cabins and houses are both rustic and pristine, with white bedding and comfortable beds, allowing for physical restoration and holding. I have had the opportunity to spend time on the Land for retreats and for my solo-practice and always leave feeling more physically and spiritually connected and restored.

My husband and I went for a couple of nights and stayed in a cabin. It's really beautiful with nearby trails for wandering in nature. The community that works there was very welcoming and the shared meals were healthy & delicious. It's just outside of the tiny town of Philo where there's a winery, small grocery store and Mexican restaurant, but you're likely to stay on site at the retreat center most of the time. There's a massive garden and a pool (which we didn't use since it's more of a cold plunge in the winter months).

There's no place like this serene utopia of a gem. I have been a couple times for different events. One was a retreat and all my needs were beyond handled. I am a foodie and The Land exceeded my expectations (what a fabulous kitchen!) It's a place to go to reset, unplug, find your center and breathe in nature. I stayed in a cabin both times and you just can't beat it. I'll be back!

The Land is the antidote to every crazy thing going on in the world. It's a throwback to everything that is meaningful in life that we've sacrificed at the altar of productivity and commerce. I had moments of sublime happiness at the Land that I haven't experienced anywhere else. I don't know if it's the immersion in nature, the sense of community or the deep teaching that is part of what happens on the Land, but it is a transformational experience that begins literally as soon as you cross the bridge onto the property. Until you are there - it's hard to quite grasp the magic that wraps itself around you and adjusts the frequency of your nervous system to a timbre you once knew but barely remember. It's the incredible, organic nourishing food and what it does to your body. It's seeing a sky full of stars at night and thinking "is this here ALL the time? How have I NOT seen it? It's the natural beauty and feeling like a steward of nature. It's helping clean up in the kitchen after a meal with the music blasting and new friends dancing. It's being around animals. It's the programs and the practices. It's the people you meet on The Land. It's who you are after and bringing that back into the world.

Go to the Land! I've visited a handful of times. Each time, it surprises me how fun and nourishing the experience is. Between spending time in the beautiful (and big!) garden, to the healthy & delicious meals, and the incredible backdrop of the Northern California woods, I always leave with a full cup. The last time I came, I brought some friends because I've loved my experience spending time on the Land so much. None of us wanted to leave after our week there. I highly recommend spending time in this NorCal oasis and getting loved up by both the land and wonderful people that live here.

Beautiful gardens. Immaculately cared for property. Truly stunning. It's a sanctuary that serves delicious food and has so much to offer. A dozen curated cabins lay across the sweeping grounds complemented with amenities like a hot yoga studio, meditation classroom, large lodge that could host 60 or more, and a picturesque former-barn-studio. The whole property is adjacent a gorgeous river with trails that will take you directly to old growth redwood forests. Had an incredible time during my stay.

I have had the privilege of many long stays at The Land over many different seasons. From swimming in the cool clear Navarro River in summer, to cozying up by the fire during the torrential rains of winter, to harvest time and planting time- The Land offers full spectrum beauty. I could feel the care in every corner- if you search closely there are little altars tucked away that remind you to pause and appreciate nature and the moment. The accommodations are simple and clean. Matthew the chef's food often left me speechless. Which I guess is ideal when your mouth is full of his food! I could go on and on- it's literal heaven on Earth and I cannot wait to go back.

I have just left the Land. Probably for the 20th time. And I will be back. She is beautiful and rustic and calm. Just thinking now about her cool, sun-dappled wooded trails along the river, her towering redwoods, darting and soaring birds, wildflowers, cozy cabins, delicious food, and friendly folk, has already started a yearning in me to return -- in the not to distant future. I love the nutrients she provides. So yes I will be back. And she is always welcoming.

Embrace, Saturate, Elevate The Land is a beautiful retreat center that caters to practitioners of all kinds, and to anyone looking to connect with themselves and nature.  I've been to yoga retreats, meditation retreats, really all kinds of things, but The Land's Eros Monastery program is the one that feeds my soul most deeply. Sometimes I like to take some breathing space from my everyday routine to renew my sense of being connected to something bigger than me.  I like the fact that The Land program has a sense of purpose. There's so much happening there, from non-profits to plug into that feed people beautiful food that I got to help prepare, as well as talks and salons centered around not just interesting but truly life-giving topics. They have a Tibetan Buddhist teacher named Kathleen who leads a bunch of events and a curriculum that appealed to me. They call it "Eros" but don't let the name give you the wrong impression. For me, it means becoming intimate with life and thats exactly what I need when I go on retreat. On my handful of stays, I've met many people, many of whom have blossomed into friendships that will last a life time. All in a beautiful setting with delicious nutrient rich food. I make it a point to get to The Land Eros Monastery on a regular basis to recharge. When I return home from my retreats on The Land I can feel my life has been enriched. At The Land I get to return to my roots.  I remember what it is all about.  I see who I truly am in this world.  I tap into my playful deepest self and I bring that with me into the world. Thank you to The Land for creating what is truly needed in the world, and for opening your doors for us to share it all with you.

Flowers in the garden

I arrived for a week long retreat at The Land not quite sure what to expect. I was amazed at the beauty of the land, the facilities and the warm receptive container of connection that greeted me! I stayed in one of the very comfortable and well appointed glamping tents in a cozy grove of trees and partook of the scrumptious meals in the community lodge just a short walk away. There are multiple opportunities for hiking if you are so inclined but the best part were the classes, yoga and meditation offerings to be had in each day. I spent time in the gardens - 2 acres of flowers, orchards and veggies with places to sit and enjoy the quiet in contemplation, or get your hands dirty in the soil. All in all a splendid week that wasn't nearly long enough and I already have plans to return! Cherry

I spent a glorious week on The Land this spring. It was so magical, from the wildlife to nature, to home-cooked meals and the activities offered, such as yoga, meditation, and sutra studies. I never wanted to leave! I was trained in OM in 2020 but have been out of practice. When I arrived, it was explained that I could choose to OM or not. I have loved my experiences with the practice so far, and I wanted to explore it. It was great. I felt safe, comfortable, well-held, and cared for every step of the way!

I stayed in the house (can't recall the name now). Most of the group stayed at the camps. The bed was reasonably comfortable. They do have a beautiful kitchen. We catered our food. We only used the kitchen to boil water for tea. It was the bee season and our food was feeding the bees nicely. It was a moment to appreciate the co-existence in the nature. There was a hot tub on site. I didn't have time to enjoy it but I had some happy friends at night. There was an outdoor shower area and it looked quite nice. The bathrooms here are rustic yet modern? If that makes sense. The campus here is incredibly beautiful. The trees treated us nicely. There were many good memories left here and we were lucky to secure the facility for our retreat. Our program was pretty packed. I wished I had more time to explore the campus. It was beautiful here.

I felt comforted and supported, inspired and emboldened as a leader. Every detail was taken care of and every creature comfort was there! My guests were incredibly happy with the spaces and we had plenty of room for all of us. It's amazing how the land supported such deep work, as if the wisdom of all groups prior to ours had somehow primed and opened up the space for us to take our personal and collective journeys of transformation. You can feel all of the love and care of the owners and all of the stewards of the land who came before. It was magical, sacred, safe, transformative, deep, joyful, peaceful and more. I am still receiving insights for myself and for my group.

I was interested in mediation instruction that would be free of religious dogma (hence my seeking a referral from the Harris website) and that was focused on meditation technique. I have found the Center to be exactly that. If a philosophical or religious concept is mentioned, it is quickly followed by the admonition not to accept any concept that is not evidence based, or does not make sense to you. The retreats at the Center have been a huge benefit to my practice (in fact, I hesitate to describe my meditation efforts before my first retreat as "practice". They were more like mind wandering sessions.). The Center is in a beutiful setting in the woods outside of Kelseyville. The accomodations are simple as they should be, but provide all that you need to facilitate mediation (the meals are excellent, btw). The entire staff is exemplerary and are fully dedicated to furthering the practice of attendees. Very worth noting - the business model for the Vipassana Centers is unmatched - all the retreats and courses, meals and lodging included, are free (the centers charges absolutely nothing for any of their services). The centers are supported solely through donations from, and the volunteer work of, people who have attended instruction. Regardless of whether one donates or later volunteers time, all are welcome back to attend retreats as long as they like (there is no means testing. People donate whatever they can afford, or wish to, or they are free not to donate at all. As far as I can tell, the donations are anonymous and not even tracked by the organization). I am not aware of any other organization that can match this demonstration of sincerity and authenticity. Finally, it is recomended that new students attend a 10 day silent retreat. This can seem very daunting for a beginning mediatator. Before my attendance, I was very uncertain that I would make it through 10 days and considered a shorter option. But attending the 10 day was one of the best things I have ever done. The first few days may be a bit difficult, but for me, the longer stay was necessary to get through those early days and to start realizing real results. I am now looking forward to my fourth 10 day retreat and actually find that the time at each retreat passes too quickly.

My friends and I went to the hot springs 5/23/2026. When there, we saw another person in the springs with a large SS nazi tattoo (with additional language under the SS with the tag "white power"). The tattoo was his whole back and was interpretable as nothing other than hate speech. Two people came up to warn us about the presence of this individual and told us that when they alerted the staff, staff said they would not address this situation. The man with the SS tattoo came to speak to those who warned us, and at that moment, I called using the staff phone asking them to send security. I was told that "they could not legally discriminate against patrons for any tattoos" which is neither federal nor California law. They said they could only intervene if there was a threat of violence. I believe any reasonable person can recognize hate speech as an implicit threat of violence. But by the time I got off of the phone, there was a threat of violence, where the man got into the face of the person he was talking to and talked about having someone hit them. The group of people he was talking to during the time of the threat included several women of color, several people who identified as queer, and one visibly disabled person. After that, I called again, and they sent a young man of color ALONE to try and address this situation, where he was not able to find the man in question (he had walked off on a trail knowing there were complaints about him). He was able to do this because of the time it took for the staff to try to address the situation. After a long time of complaints (over 1 hour), being told we didn't understand the discrimination laws, and that they couldn't get in touch with a manager to even confirm that they could remove the man, we got a full refund and left. We had to fight for that refund, and even though they had sent that one young staff member before, it was only when we finally confirmed a refund did a manager even direct the staff to collect details on what this man said, did, and looked like, indicating that it either took staff over two hours to contact a manager, which is a problem in any emergency, or it took us asking for a refund for any action to be even spoken about in this dangerous situation. Either way, I will never step foot in this establishment again. This spa promotes itself as a safe space, but is unwilling to have policies and staff that actually create a safe space.
