This is a very special place and a remarkable community. However it is you find the opportunity to get here, work it out and do it. I can't really compare this to any other experience I've had. Sidenote, there is outstanding Wi-Fi across the whole property, and my phone's 5G also did well (t-mobile). The grounds and various group rooms, the kitchen and food prep, all of this is personally handled by the diligent and caring staff. My birthday was coming up and I felt like I needed a break from life for a few days in a peaceful and relaxing environment.  I had been on a yoga retreat before and decided to do another one for my birthday. I looked up different yoga/meditation retreats and I came across this place on Book Retreats.com After reading the description I knew this was the perfect one for me. After I booked it the guest director called me to get more info and after speaking with him I felt like this retreat would be a perfect fit. The location is very peaceful and serene. My husband and I went for a couple of nights and stayed in a cabin. It's really beautiful with nearby trails for wandering in nature. The community that works there was very welcoming and the shared meals were healthy & delicious. It's just outside of the tiny town of Philo where there's a winery, small grocery store and Mexican restaurant, but you're likely to stay on site at the retreat center most of the time. I had a wonderful visit at The Land. The accommodations are beautiful, the food is incredible, and the land itself is peaceful, serene and gorgeous. Living in a place for a whole week that is steeped in a life of practice really had me have what I really wanted in a retreat - something that was healthy for my mind, body and soul. I loved being able to experience the practices each day. Yoga was great for my computer guy body and Orgasmic Meditation was a welcome addition to my stay. I had been to The Land before when OM wasn't offered and I had done it for several years before with my partner. Since then I have read the scientific studies that have explained the benefits and was stoked to come and experience it again. The Land is the antidote to every crazy thing going on in the world. It's a throwback to everything that is meaningful in life that we've sacrificed at the altar of productivity and commerce. I had moments of sublime happiness at the Land that I haven't experienced anywhere else. I don't know if it's the immersion in nature, the sense of community or the deep teaching that is part of what happens on the Land, but it is a transformational experience that begins literally as soon as you cross the bridge onto the property. Until you are there - it's hard to quite grasp the magic that wraps itself around you and adjusts the frequency of your nervous system to a timbre you once knew but barely remember. It's the incredible, organic nourishing food and what it does to your body. It's seeing a sky full of stars at night and thinking "is this here ALL the time? How have I NOT seen it? It's the natural beauty and feeling like a steward of nature. It's helping clean up in the kitchen after a meal with the music blasting and new friends dancing. It's being around animals. Beautiful gardens. Immaculately cared for property. Truly stunning. It's a sanctuary that serves delicious food and has so much to offer. A dozen curated cabins lay across the sweeping grounds complemented with amenities like a hot yoga studio, meditation classroom, large lodge that could host 60 or more, and a picturesque former-barn-studio. Time moves differently here. I'm writing these notes from my cosy cabin, watching the wild deer wander unhurried through the property. From some of the best sleep I've had in years, to the morning yoga, my stay at the land was all I hoped for and more - as a psychotherapist, it's crucial that I find places for deep rest and I really found it at the Land. I've been lucky enough to visit a few times over the last few years and never get used to the stars at night and just before dawn. This last visit, it even got warm enough for a dip in the pool. And the food, oh my goodness.. so nourishing and grounding. Even made good progress on my work - yes there's unbelievably good Wi-Fi in the middle of the woods ! I will definitely be back. I have had the privilege of many long stays at The Land over many different seasons. From swimming in the cool clear Navarro River in summer, to cozying up by the fire during the torrential rains of winter, to harvest time and planting time- The Land offers full spectrum beauty. Embrace, Saturate, Elevate The Land is a beautiful retreat center that caters to practitioners of all kinds, and to anyone looking to connect with themselves and nature.  I've been to yoga retreats, meditation retreats, really all kinds of things, but The Land's Eros Monastery program is the one that feeds my soul most deeply. Sometimes I like to take some breathing space from my everyday routine to renew my sense of being connected to something bigger than me.  I like the fact that The Land program has a sense of purpose. There's so much happening there, from non-profits to plug into that feed people beautiful food that I got to help prepare, as well as talks and salons centered around not just interesting but truly life-giving topics. They have a Tibetan Buddhist teacher named Kathleen who leads a bunch of events and a curriculum that appealed to me. They call it "Eros" but don't let the name give you the wrong impression. For me, it means becoming intimate with life and thats exactly what I need when I go on retreat. On my handful of stays, I've met many people, many of whom have blossomed into friendships that will last a life time. All in a beautiful setting with delicious nutrient rich food. I make it a point to get to The Land Eros Monastery on a regular basis to recharge. When I return home from my retreats on The Land I can feel my life has been enriched. At The Land I get to return to my roots.  I remember what it is all about.  I see who I truly am in this world.  I tap into my playful deepest self and I bring that with me into the world. I arrived for a week long retreat at The Land not quite sure what to expect. I was amazed at the beauty of the land, the facilities and the warm receptive container of connection that greeted me! I stayed in one of the very comfortable and well appointed glamping tents in a cozy grove of trees and partook of the scrumptious meals in the community lodge just a short walk away. There are multiple opportunities for hiking if you are so inclined but the best part were the classes, yoga and meditation offerings to be had in each day. I spent time in the gardens - 2 acres of flowers, orchards and veggies with places to sit and enjoy the quiet in contemplation, or get your hands dirty in the soil. I spent a glorious week on The Land this spring. It was so magical, from the wildlife to nature, to home-cooked meals and the activities offered, such as yoga, meditation, and sutra studies. I never wanted to leave! I was trained in OM in 2020 but have been out of practice. When I arrived, it was explained that I could choose to OM or not. Okay so I came here for a yoga retreat with my studio and SF and had an amazing time but there is a lot of mixed reviews about this place and I get it. Property: so they advertise many many aces but they really only want you to be on a small part of it. Regardless it is very nice. Rooms: very simple and basic. Way over priced for what you get but it is extremely comfy and no complaints. Pool: they advertise their salt water pools but I didn't get to try it but it looked like a very normal pool. Food: this is 6/5 stars. The food and the chef are both absolutely amazing. The chef cared so much that our dietary needs were met. This place is extremely thoughtful if you have any dietary restrictions. So when I got there they had a plate made up for me for lunch. Big plate with lots of yummy meat and food. The chef told me they don't do meat for dinner anymore. I panicked. She said we can do meat if you are on high protein or if you just want meat, just let her know. I didn't say anything even thought I saw stressed. The breakfast lunch and dinners were all so amazing. No meat needed. First time in my life I ever said no meat needed. But dinner was my favorite. Everything was seriously so good. Staff: everyone was friendly enough but there is definitely something weird going on as some other helpers mentioned. But no one said or did anything werid to me. Everyone was nice enough and accommodating. I wouldnt call the staff 5 stars or friendly but there was nothing wrong. I would 100% come back for another yoga retreat and for the food alone. They are building a beautiful looking mediation center. But I do not recommend just coming without a retreat or group thing. A few other notes: The WiFi is amazing They have animals roaming around and it is pretty cute The have an adorable hot yoga room Last note: the place is expensive but do not expect a 5 star experience. In 2020 I was evacuated during the fires and had no place to go because all the campgrounds were full or closed. The Land offered fire evacuees, including those with large animals since they have so much space, a place to land while they figured things out, and they fed me three organic meals a day while I did so. The compassion and kindness of the people here is hard to find in this world. The folks on The Land are truly interested in helping make the world a better place. They model how to be in relationship with the earth and with each other. They also do work feeding the homeless lovingly prepared, healthy meals with Love to Table. After I left, I continued to meditate with them daily via zoom (thanks Covid!) and participate in their community. This summer I returned for a few days and got to reconnect in person with the people, animals and land. They've created a utopia that I hope thrives for a long time. Each time I visit the land I leave so deeply nourished, and reminded that the best things are simple. Everything on the land operates on this principle of simplicity that is so restorative from the rest of the world that seems so fixated on more, Better, Faster and I suspect is why everything feels so smooth functionally and operationally when it comes to meals and activities. Overall this feeling of simplicity and smoothness is the best part of being there. A few specific things I love are that we can easily walk to an incredible Redwood grove, and to the Navarro river, and the hot yoga studio which gets great heat and has awesome flooring (after teaching yoga in SF for years I really notice these things). I am related to the former property owners and was recently able to come to the Land for an afternoon. I had not visited since I was a teenager and felt it would be nice to reconnect with my family history there. While I did not participate in meditation or other spiritual activities facilitated on-site, it was lovely to see how the current owners have maintained and improved the open spaces and buildings. The accommodations are nicely appointed, and the food is top-notch. While upscale compared to its previous incarnations the Land is deeply respectful toward the surrounding natural landscape and the history of the property. I was delighted to see they kept some of the original signage! Eli and Chelsea were very hospitable in setting up my visit. I hope I get the chance to visit again soon. read more

We had planned our wedding to be at The Land. The venue is beautiful, the food amazing, and the staff very friendly. But sadly, the wedding never happened due to COVID. Nevertheless, we got all our deposits refunded (even though they'd accommodated two nights of stay and a number of meals free of charge while we during our two visits to the venue). Our house burnt down in the Santa Cruz fire and these beautiful people put us up for a month for free. We had absolutely nowhere to go and we were sleeping in our car and in a tent in so many places we couldn't count. They fed us meals-three a day from food from their incredible organic garden--the meals were past delicious. We stayed in these beautiful tents . They were so so kind to us--we thought we died and went to heaven. They also fed thousands of others who were food insecure through a local program. We hosted our wedding at The Land and could not have been more happy with the entire experience. We wanted to have our wedding in the Anderson Valley area and chose this unique property because it meant we could host nearly 70% of guests on-site in a combination of houses, cabins, and platform tents. The property, nestled in the valley and surrounded by redwood forest and rolling hills, was an idyllic setting for our 3 day wedding weekend celebration. The staff at The Land worked with us for over a year to help us pull off a truly magical event. We catered the rehearsal dinner, reception dinner, and farewell brunch through the Land, and the food was delicious--unpretentious, fresh, farm-to-table dishes like grilled steaks and veggies, blueberry gluten-free bread budding, frittatas, and unbelievable apple pie. Our guests loved staying on-site, many comments on the incredible hospitality of the staff, the good foods, and comfortable accommodations. They also enjoyed full use of amenities such as the yoga studio, the outdoor salt water pool, petting the friendly goats, and hiking on the many nearby trails. I was just on the Land for a weekend retreat. It was 3 days of heaven. Every corner of the property, every little nook, was fresh and neat and full of life, as if tended to daily with the utmost care and love. My accommodation was no exception. Such attention to detail, such humble yet lush comfort, it felt like home. I am quite particular regarding food and found that every meal served in the gorgeous and cozy fire-lit lodge exceeded my expectation of both quality and taste, better even than home! I've been to The Land a few times, and it always feels so warm and welcoming. The rooms are simple and elegant, and there's so much beauty in walking around, greeting the animals, and chatting with the people. The dining hall is great because we all eat together at the large tables, giving a genuine community feel, which is priceless in this isolated world. Ok. So. I wrote another review, but Yelp suggested I write one with a bit more context and a bit less drama. Here it is. I came to The Land with my partner and our colleagues for a retreat. The Land is a lovely property situated close to Mendocino on an old campground, and the cabins are clean and spacious. But we had the most intensely uncomfortable, creepy experience over the course of the Land retreat. It wasn't just the floor-to-ceiling windows in the room where participants "OM," or engage in orgasmic meditation, although that was part of it -- We thought we were there for a "health and wellness" retreat, we had no idea that "orgasmic stroking" was even a thing!! (Please note that this is where men stroke women's genetalia using rubber gloves and lube.) Live and let live, we always say, but the vibe and energy at The Land was creepy and made us awfully uncomfortable. What we didn't know at the time, and wish we had known - hence, this Yelp review - is that The Land is owned and run by the organization OneTaste. How do we know this? It was confirmed by the 10+ people who "live" on The Land, who told us that they are OneTaste members - every single one of them of them. I confirmed this via the OneTaste website, where I found their names and photos, and also OneTaste YouTube videos. No wonder we felt uncomfortable!! If you haven't heard of OneTaste, it is an organization currently under investigation by the FBI for sexual predation, defrauding customers via a pyramid scheme, sexual assault, prostitution, and other awful things. The articles below describe them as a "cult" and report they engage in "mind control" of their members. I'm not saying these claims are true, merely that there is an investigation - and that consumers have a right to know. I couldn't figure out the bad feeling in my gut, so I got online and did some research. We never intended to support an organization accused of preying on vulnerable women and defrauding people, nor would we have even gone there if we'd known. But since we didn't know that The Land was affiliated with OneTaste, we didn't have the option to decline this invitation. Yelp is an amazing organization that gives its members the opportunity to offer information to the community based on personal experience. This was our experience. We'd suggest staying far, far away. My wife and I came out to The Land from the east coast to get away from it all for a few days and we were completely blown away. We woke up in one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in every morning, ate professional chef quality food every meal, and spent the time in between walking through gardens and playing with goats, ducks, and a badass mini cow named cliff on one of the most beautiful pieces of land I've ever seen - I suppose that's how it got it's name. There are amazing vineyards and an awe inducing redwood forest minutes outside the gates. I went to The Land for a week to spend my birthday with my family. It was my best birthday EVER!! The food was healthy , fresh and always delicious! The activities were created for the interest of my family. We had a private tour and lunch at a vineyard .
