The house is spacious, with huge windows and a lovely wood-burning fireplace where we made s'mores, sipped hot chocolate and drank plenty of wine. At night, we could see the Milky Way from the front porch before heading off to our cosy, clean rooms, which looked exactly like the photos. We also made good use of the fully-stocked kitchen and the cast-iron pots and pans were perfect for hopping john and pancakes on New Year's day. Although we did not get to meet Dennis and Lesley, they were very responsive by email and phone and were accommodating of our dogs and check-in/out times. They do have a cat (Boots, I believe), who was not around while we were around, but whose lingering presence those of us with cat allergies could feel - the house was spotless but cat hairs are invisible and persistent, so just be forewarned if you're allergic. I'd love to go back!

Dennis and Leslie were delightful and the room was very nice. The fresh baked bread at breakfast was also excellent. There was even a blues harmonica concert going on at the Navarro General Store which is a short walk away. Overall it was a perfect place for our weekend and we will definitely be back. The only watch out is that the neighbors do have roosters. Dennis made sure that we knew there were earplugs provided in the room and they will come in handy if you are not a heavy sleeper. I wore earplugs and couldn't hear a thing. Otherwise it is a very quite and out of the way place that is also very relaxing.

My wife and I enjoyed our last meal with our kids and family at the start of 2026 that we booked…read moreanother meal on Saturday and I'm glad we did. We live FT in The Sea Ranch so Harbor House is an easy drive and it's like having our own neighborhood Michelin star resort and dining in the hood. Lunch was as good as I remember it. We started with a raw smoked trout stater and it was gently smoked which kept the trout firm and with only a hint of the curing process. Their freshly made bread followed and that kelp churned butter is to die for. The next two courses were a poached black cod in a home made miso sauce that was a lesson in how to ferment properly ! Delicious. The pork loin followed and I must admit it was a little tough - perhaps not rested enough post cooking or just a little over. The dish had teenie tiny wasabi leaves among all the veggies and greens on the plate and they really imparted a lovely natural zinginess...desert was some sort of a custard with a thin meringue and some other wonderfulness that made the whole thing refreshing but not too sweet and a lovely end to the meal. It was our 34th anniversary and we had made it a point to mention it when we made the reservation but they didn't even stick a candle in the dessert they gave us as a part of the meal...which seemed a missed opportunity IMHO. Just saying, we eat out quite a bit and most of the time not to celebrate anything special so it's nice when an establishment makes mention and notice of it in some way... We had the wine pairings ($100/each) along with the five course lunch ($150/each) and they do a nice job with the pairings, mainly featuring nice Italian varietals and of course some local favorites from the area - like Baxter (Pinot) and a dessert style wine that was very nice and not something I would have normally thought to order on my own. The grounds are as beautiful as always and now that spring has sprung and the flowers on their grounds are in full bloom and the beach area is starting to take on that summer sheen - it was a stellar afternoon once again. We will be keeping this place on regular rotation for sure and we look forward to our next meal later this summer when the tomatoes are ripe and the fruits and vegetables are in all their glory ! Highly recommend.

Our cozy cottage was clean with a great view of the garden and ocean. The bed is very comfortable and the provided space heater helped kept us warm at night. Only con I have to say is the pillows were very flat so we had to sleep with both pillows on top of each other for more support. I love that it had a full kitchen so you can cook delicious meals with fresh ingredients such as the daily delivered eggs straight from the chickens and greens you pick from the garden. If you want a break from cooking or want a meal prepped for when you arrive, you can add in the option of a dinner or picnic basket to your reservation as well. For the activities such as chicken chat and goat gab we weren't able to attend; it was raining pretty heavily during our stay so we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy cabin. For the moments where the rain would stop, it was nice to explore the land, making stops by the bunnies and chickens with our dogs. Definitely planing on coming back! Would love to experience Mar Visita during the spring or summer!

By the way, every room has a private bath, unlike a lot of B&Bs. The house has a variety of rooms and amenities, so do your homework to make sure you get what you're looking for. The WiFi was very spotty and cell signal is non-existent, so plan accordingly for this. The breakfast, while lighter than some B&Bs I've stayed at, was delicious. Everything is homemade by a very talented staff. The service all around was terrific. We ate dinner the first night at the Pier Chowder House, just a 2 minute walk to the waterfront. Good food, lots of local beer and wine to choose from. The second night we found out about a scampi and crab feed at the grange in Manchester, a few miles north of town. There's also a decent Indian Casino just outside of town. There's a great coop market in town (a mile away, back on Hwy 1), as well as a small movie theater that used to be a playhouse. They sometimes have live music events there, too. Be sure to drive 4 miles north to the lighthouse. You can actually climb up the 145 steps to the top and see for miles. Take your camera! There's a small museum and gift shop as well. All in all, we had a great weekend. It was well worth the drive. We'll be back!

Just got back from an amazing and relaxing LONG weekend up the coast with the wife. We spent two…read morenights at the Coast Guard House and I have to say, this is one of the quaintest and coziest little B&Bs I've ever stayed in. The location is right on the Arena Cove waterfront; secluded and - most importantly - quiet. The house was actually used by the Coast Guard back in the day so it has lots of history behind it. Your typical frilly Victorian B&B decor (bleh) is non-existant...think more turn-of-the-century craftsman. Our room (Surfmen Cove) was spacious, with a gas fireplace and sunken tub in the bathroom. Downstairs in the living room/parlor there is a wood burning stove that is usually lit in the mornings and evenings with a nice sitting area in front of it. Mmm, love that smell... The innkeepers, Kevin and Mia, have been operating this establishment since the mid-1990s. They are very friendly and willing to help you secure local dinner reservations as well as give you ideas on what to do with yourself while in the Mendocino area. Mia is originally from Philadelphia, so east coast feistiness + plenty of caffeine = enthusiastic "audio/visual presentations" over breakfast on local sights and activities. Fellow inn guests were just as friendly. The group this particular weekend was mostly from the south bay. One evening we ran into another couple staying at the inn at the Arena Cove Bar & Grill (just a few steps away from the CGH...another plus!) after driving back from dinner in Mendocino. We ended up sharing pints, stogies and port well into the wee hours. I would definitely come back here, and maybe next time try one of the two cottages they have on the grounds in addition to the five rooms in the main house. Holiday weekend note: The CGH can be flexible with reservation minimums. The website (which allows online reservations) says there is a three-night minimum required in order to make a reservation over a holiday weekend. For Memorial Day weekend, we actually wanted to stay at the CGH for only two nights (Friday and Saturday) and then head to Napa to stay at the Carneros Inn on Sunday night. On the previous Monday, I noticed online that there still seemed to be rooms available for the weekend. I phoned Kevin and he was agreeable to making an exception to the three-night rule and allowed us to complete our reservation for just two nights.

But what made it truly unforgettable was Rachel and her incredible team. From the very beginning, Rachel made everything feel easy. She's organized, intuitive, calm, and somehow manages to be both laid-back and on top of every detail. I never felt overwhelmed, never stressed. I fully trusted her, and that trust paid off a thousand times over. The florals were perfect--gorgeous but not fussy, exactly in tune with the setting and the vibe we'd envisioned. Her staff was so kind and attentive, and the whole event flowed effortlessly thanks to their care and presence. Guests kept commenting on how beautiful everything was, but also how relaxed and fun the day felt. There was no pretense or pressure--just love, laughter, tacos (SO GOOD), and pure joy. Rachel also helped us source our hair and makeup artist (who was amazing), our dessert vendor (adorable and delicious), and even supported our late-night In-N-Out plan. She managed every piece of the puzzle with grace and humor, and made sure we got to actually enjoy our wedding day. (Which we did. Fully. With Palomas. And a piano man. And guacamole on my dress.) We've joked with our guests about making this an annual thing, and honestly? We might not be joking. Yokayo is that special. And if you're lucky enough to have Rachel by your side, you're in very good hands.

We come here for the private access down to the beach and normally only see 1-2 others on this stretch of beach. It is quintessential northwest coast! Very dog friendly and a lot of sandy areas and large logs for the dogs to climb and explore or for you to sit on and watch the waves. An occasional horse riding group will pass by but they also leave poop on the beach to which our dogs alerted us to! Whales (seasonal), sea lions, and many species of birds all for the watching. Rental staff: friendly and courteous. Not much interaction but we're very nice as usual. House: the house windows towards the ocean is stunning. The house is in need to attention. Furniture is as comfortable as a board on a concrete surface and about as low. If you have a bad back or hip, don't sit for your entire stay. The gas fireplace never worked. The heater thermostat battery went out and we replaced using our flashlight batteries. To turn it on, you have to remove the front plate and switch it on, but those instructions are not in the house. The window blinds in the kitchen do not work at all. The flashing and weatherproofing around the door is gone so there's an 1-1.25 inch gap at the bottom. Key doesn't always work. It took us several minutes each time to get the door open. There were no dish towels in the kitchen. The kitchen pots and pans are old and should be replaced. The flooring is mostly carpet which always gives me the creeps but that's my own issue. One bed is hard and the other is too soft. The hot tub was lovely and worked well. The kitchen does have everything you need with respect to cooking. The refrigerator was nice and clean. Actually, the entire house was very clean!! They allowed dogs so we were able to bring ours. The deck was nice but needs sanding and sealing. Two nice chairs were there but that was it. There's so much potential in this home and I feel the owners are just missing the mark.

First floor bathroom overflowed with feces on our first use. We called the owners emergency numbers numerous times, including the following day, and they never returned the call. 2. Master bath and shower did not work. Period. 3. Went back to the 2nd floor bath, stepping over feces we cleaned, and the shower there worked, but the light did not. Got out our camping latern out of the car to see our selves shower in filth. 4. Hot tub was grimy and when we turned on the jets the water was so low the water sprouted upward, like a fountain. The hot tub area light bulbs were all out and also required our flashlight to see around. Could easily have fell. And they charge you an extra hot tub fee for work they never deign to do. 5. All plumbing, even the bath that worked, smelled of sulfur and I hate to say, sewage. 6. Arrived to a filthy house, dishes still in dishwasher, toilets filthy, etc. For glassware, there was one tall glass, a few bourbon glasses and two mismatched wine glasses. This would be ok if the place wasn't a f'n fortune. 7. A few rolls of TP were offered, one was obviously soaked over and dried and looked yellow. 8. Towels were stained and I think I've seen nicer and certainly cleaner ones at Motel 6. 9. Mismatched pots and pans the kind you'd see amassed at a frat house and with all the grime along it. No lids matched one pot. All dinnerware was chipped and mismatched. Again, this would be totally ok if it weren't pitched and priced at "luxury". There's sadly more insults to injury, but the saddest part is we don't have a lot of $ and I've been really sick. We thought we'd splurge on this place to heal and rejuvenate, only to have these awful people taking our hard earned money and limited time and feed into their pockets without putting in any honest work to upkeep their property professionally. They should be ashamed. We've had so many great experiences on the coast with other rentals and will not be coming back here again.
