No one should be treated like merchandise to be bought and sold, and there are so many wonderful rescues and shelter-style resources for people looking for a smaller companion, the same way most stores already partner with shelters for cats and dogs. This review is describing my experience with everything pet bird related at this store: cage, food,…read moretoy selection; cleanliness and organization; and the worst part--that they sell birds. Not only do they sell birds, but they house the birds in a tiny, cramped, windowless room in tiny cages, with one fluorescent ceiling light and what appears to be no human interaction or fresh air or appropriate light. The room is about the size of my bedroom, and there are cages stacked to the ceiling full of birds, but the cages are tiny. Back when I didn't know any better in the '90s, I purchased two parrots from pet stores, as "hand-raised babies," but those stores had all the birds in appropriately sized cages with sunlight and lots of toys and out time with visitors if you sanitized your hands. They felt out the potential owners and didn't sell birds to just anyone. Now I know better, as I volunteer with a local parrot rescue that has to turn away hundreds of unwanted pet birds a year on top of the hundreds they take in. One of those volunteer duties is doing home visits for the adoption applicants, and one took me this week to near this store, and the applicant told me about it and showed me this terrible-looking seed mix they purchased there for pets. So I stopped by this store to see what/why they were selling, and the sad and crowded windowless bird-commodity room made me cry. I left in tears. I had first browsed the shelves for toys and food, and I found the shelves unorganized, out of stock on several items, and the floors dirty. Plus a cat running around. And the cages they were selling were all tiny as well. Here's something significant and equally emotional. Under "pets" on the front page of their website, they strongly encourage adopting from shelters for dogs and cats. SO WHY NOT BIRDS? Birds live longer, are more complicated, are often more intelligent and with more complex needs, and our rescues are overrun! WHY?!?! (Profit! And it's terrible.) This is their own words--why don't they believe this for birds??!! They should contact every rescue on the West Coast and find out how overrun we are. "We have in stock a selection of small pets which include birds, fish, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. If you are looking for a pet kitty or pooch, we HIGHLY urge you to check out the local shelter where there are great animals looking for loving homes. Finding a local groomer became one of the many challenges for me. Based on the reviews, I chose this groomer. They are located at the west end of downtown CV. Walking in the store front, it has a very homey friendly country feel. They do not put dogs in crates. My dog has great separation anxiety so not being confined in a crate is a great relief. My appointment made via phone, requires a $50 deposit. My morning appointment, my dog was immediately taken in the back after grooming requirements were collected. Again, being a first time owner, they walk me through steps. A ninety minutes expectation was given for their work and they would text me to pick up. Upon my return, I was walk through grooming tips and tools (Coombs and brushes, and other products). I appreciate the advice. Since my dog's hair was knotted, he was trimmed very close. They were prepared to scheduled the next appointment but I held off so I can reflect on the overall experience. My dog was appeared fine from this experience though the trim could be more even throughout. Luckily the fur will grow back and no one will know the difference. I was sent a link to schedule appointments online. Overall I hit a very favorable impression with the store front and friendly staff. I definitely will schedule future grooming appointments.

When we picked her up, Brandon and Ryan gave us the daily report. Turns out, Smalls spent her vacation roaming the store and occasionally trying to bust out through the back door. Luckily, the staff has excellent reflexes and stopped her escape attempts. Smalls was well-loved, well-fed, and safely contained. 10/10 would board our tiny criminal here again.
