Been coming here for years and it's still a favorite. The food, people and service are always great. Highly recommend, it's a Hailey staple!

I was hesitant to try this place because some bad reviews, but I'm glad I did. Got the steak sandwich. Nothing fancy. But a good cut with the fixings. French fries were great. And they have some of the best fry sauce I think I've ever had. Definitely a dive. More of a local watering hole that happens a to have a grill. Then a restaurant with beer. I was in town for work and wanted a good burger, so I decided to give this place a try based on the menu and online pictures. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. The service was terrible from the start. The person taking my order was rude, and even openly admitted she was in a bad mood and couldn't wait for the night shift to relieve her. When I asked if they had Coke or Pepsi products, she just rolled her eyes, handed me a cup, and said most people just get a beer. I was shocked by the attitude and mentioned I don't drink and drive--especially since I was there for work. I opted for a Sprite, but it tasted like plain carbonated water. I tried switching to Dr. Pepper, and it looked more like tea than soda. Clearly, something was wrong with their drink setup. When the food arrived, it was underwhelming. The burger tasted bland, almost like it had no seasoning at all. The fries were fine but very basic, nothing special. What really bothered me was the cleanliness, or lack thereof. I was sitting at the bar and could see into the kitchen. There was grease and old food all over the floor, and the whole area looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly in a while. This place could definitely use a visit from a health inspector. To top it off, I started feeling unwell about 20 minutes after leaving. Good hamburger joint with lots of outside seating and a huge chessboard to play outside. I got the 1/4 lb hamburger which was really good. But I would have to say the fries were what stood out to me. Crispy on the outside and just perfect. read more

Pretty decent! Pretty normal bar environment with a really sweet patio that even includes an outdoor chess board. Bring your pooch and enjoy some brew. Came on a Friday evening, good crowd with a minimal wait. A little cramped inside as everyone is waiting to order. Menu isn't huge with pretty normal Burger/fry combos. I got a 1/2lb'er and a few Henry Weinhards (great deal at $4something for a 24oz.). Food was fairly fast, even with as busy as it was which was kind of impressive cause there were only two dudes taking orders and preparing food. Burger was great. Cooked perfectly and had great flavor. My favorite part was not actually the burger, but the pickles on the burger. They paired perfectly and made it taste that much better. Fries were $3 extra and I'm not big on fries, but were alright. All in all, came out under $25, which for this area is a steal. I'll definitely be back! read more

i was really hoping this road side burger joint would be awesome, unfortunately it wasn't. We ordered 5 meals and the burgers were okay, normal frozen beef patties, fish and chips were okay, fries were okay, pastrami was a bit underwhelming. Service was not served with a smile. when we asked what came on a burger we were told," lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions and you can pick off what you don't want" when our Ten your old asked for ranch they insisted it came with her meal, when an adult inquired she was gruff and said it came with the chicken nuggets, however we did not order nuggets, then grudgingly gave two ranches and said your supposed to pay for them. I think the experience would have or could've been decent but the service ruined it. would not return or recommend. Sitting outside was enjoyable with the kids. read more

Burger patty's have a charbroiled taste, burnt flavor, burger is sold individually so you'll be out over $20 easy if you add cheese to the burger fries and get a drink. Should have picked somewhere else, but being a Sunday options were limited. I'd say eat somewhere else. read more

Traveling through the town of Hailey, we decided to stop and eat at this location. The food was good but the service needs some work. The fries were delicious but the fried attitude of the servers left something to be desired. When asked by a 10 year old to get ranch and they are answered with a rude response is not acceptable. Followed up with an adult asking the response was just as rude and very unprofessional. If I were an owner of this establishment I would be embarrassed and appalled this is the first impression of my business. read more

Best spot in town!! we love the Wicked Spud and Mike and employees. Everyone is so kind and the food is amazing! Fries are fantastic, great burgers, versatile, vegetarian options, and atmosphere is to die for! Very homey vibe. truly wouldn't be Hailey ID a without the Spud!! they are getting better at more environmentally friendly practices like removing the use of plastic sauce cups. nice bathrooms, games, T-Shirts, and outdoor space. read more

Counter service, cute place, went for outdoor seating with two dogs. Food was okay at best. We had a BLT with fries, a burger and a "black & blue" salad. The salad was super basic - mixed greens with a little bit of steak and a side of cheap, bottled bleu cheese. read more

The last time here I gave them a two star. The only thing worth going here for the fries. Order the fries and seriously, don't order anything else. I ordered the black and blue. It's blackened steak in spring lettuce with blue cheese dressing. When I ordered, I asked if I could have and extra dressing on the side because there is rarely enough dressing. Rather than give us extra dressing they only filled the little plastic container half full. Was that deliberate or a mishap. I didn't want to eat the salad without dressing. The meat itself, although rather spicy for me, was tender. If I had been at home I probably would've made a nice sandwich out of the meat and greens. Welll, I highly recommend never coming here. If I could leave zero stars I would. I grew up in this valley and have been to the Spud many many times but it has been several years as I moved away and just came back a couple years ago. I say this because I used to always have excellent service and delicious food. I walked in to order and before I could do anything the incredibly awful cook made a remark about how "she's gonna have to wait a f***ing while, I'm f***ing busy". I was stunned and addressed the sweet poor girl working with him and she brushed it off and tried to do her job. I decided to order anyway and as I was paying the nasty cook decided to make more remarks not so under his breath growling about how busy he was and again how "gonna have to wait!" I immediately halted my order and said how I wouldn't put up with that and left. I had seen reviews of burnt or undercooked food but my memories were fond and ignored them. I recommend you don't. Whoever the new owners are and cook are simply aren't producing decent food and remarkably awful service. I read more

First time: asked about seating ourselves. "Order, pay, sit wherever you want." Person who took our order was abrupt and not helpful. Husband's steak burger was raw and my BLT came out without the Swiss cheese I'd asked for. Microwave bacon and lots of shredded iceberg. (Battered) fries were good but nothing exceptional. Very divey food and atmosphere with subpar service. Will not return. We were starving and on our way to Boise - didn't check Yelp reviews first! So bummed. This was my go to lunch spot when I was in town. Their BLT has the a thick layer of thin, crunchy bacon and I'm addicted. Their fries are awesome. I ordered a steak salad with rare steak and it was cooked perfectly. Great burger. Fun place for live music and they have a dog friendly patio. To go orders are done quickly. Great spot! I was expecting more. Seemed like frozen patties in my burger. Otherwise it's a nice place to hang out with friends and have beer. I recommend driving a few more minutes into Ketchum for food. read more

Don't know if it was an off night?? No salad menu items "we are out" with salads clearly sitting on the back counter. The BLT was a disaster. White bread hamburger bun not on toast or event toasted and processed thin pre-cooked cold bacon with no lettuce and no mayo available in the entire restaurant. Top that off with also processed not natural fries. Bad deal. Agree with comments that the food used to be excellent. Won't be back, bummer. Glad we have Mahoney's and Grumpy's. Lastly, I have lived in Hailey for 38 years and have no idea why Yelp shows I am from elsewhere. Doesn't matter, sucks just plain sucks. I want to go to whatever restaurant Carol C, from SLC ate at with the fabulous food and the 5 star rating. That was not where we were tonight. AS some other reviews have stated, the food used to be good. I regularly ordered the gyro as a to go. No longer on the menu, but thats okay because 4 out of 5 times I ordered it, it was unavailable. At least they had the sense to take it off the menu. The BLT should also die a dignified death. Literally the lamest BLT ever. On a burger bun? Precooked bacon and just a little shredded lettuce? This is a lack of professional dignity. Never mind no salads available at 6:30 on a Thursday night. Similar to the gyro..someone needs to figure out how to order food. I never ever play the "I'm a professional chef and restaurant guy"card. You don't need a chef to fix this. But you do need to drink a tall glass of " I actually give a shit". Maybe put that on tap. Don't expect homemade fries, a baked potato, or anything else made with Idaho potatoes! With a name like "Spud" you would think you we're getting authentic Idaho potatoes. Don't expect to get any fries that are fresh cut on site from the potato made from this business. The fries are obviously ordered from a factory. They are from a bag, rolled in flour. The line cook is friendly. The burgers are fine. But, do yourself a favor, take a pass on this place and head to McDonalds. read more

Hole in the wall, small town rural bar feel. Don't expect amazing upscale service. This is more of a mom and pop shop than a wine and dine. Imagine it would be loud after during nights. Three cheers for the fries and staff at this cool joint! Batter dipped, golden sticks of pure joy. Glorious! Garden burger was flavorful and delicious - not like the matted mush that some burger places will pass off as "garden burger," and the California wrap was decent. I would have preferred fresh avocado on the wrap in lieu of the guacamole that passed as my favorite green vegetable but, hey, when the fries are this good, I'll take the guac and like it. Chicken strips were somewhat uninspiring. The beer selection (on tap) wasn't huge, but wasn't bad. I was pleased to see an offering from Pike's Place Brewery on the menu. I recommend this place for the following: 1. Cool, laid-back ambiance with killer patio (too bad it was cold the day we went). 2. Cool, funny & friendly staff. The crowd in this place is equally as nice. 3. Fries...OMG...did I mention they were glorious, deep-fried sticks of sunshine? Did I?!?! 4. The above, combined with a pint, equals a great time. I love the spud! This is a great place to meet with friends for a day sitting outside and enjoying the Hailey sunshine, or sitting inside and catching a game on tv. The burgers and fries are great, and I especially love BLTs there. Great service and a wonderful group of people are always sure to be found when you step inside the spud. read more
