This is not the best Armenian restaurant in the world. It is also not the most glamorous, the most…read moretrendy, nor the most ambitious. But it is without question the most important Armenian restaurant in the world. Armenians are simultaneously a diaspora people, a people of the book, and an old country people. Therefore, odd as it may seem, it is entirely appropriate that the most important Armenian restaurant in the world should not be located in Armenia at all, but should serve a diaspora community in a way that makes them feel connected to home, both interns of cuisine and in terms of communal warmth. Technically, this is more of a Lebanese restaurant than an Armenian restaurant, but that hardly matters. It's a place of celebration, merriment, laughter, and tears. In short, it is THE gathering place for Armenians in Southern California. Because of its fame and importance, the thing that is consistently overlooked about this restaurant is just how excellent the food is. Bring a Lebanese expat here and you will invariably hear them say after the first bite of hummus that it doesn't compare to the hummus they used to enjoy in Beirut. By the middle of the bowl, they will say that it actually is not as bad as they first thought. By the end of the bowl they will declare that this hummus ranks among the greatest they have ever tasted. Carousel does not overwhelm you. It seduces you. And you'll be back.

I'd say that this place has the Vest Chicken Kabob that I have had in the LA area…read more I have been coming here since they opened and they have really stayed consistent in their quality since then. The white meat chicken kabob is the meal to order. The garlic sauce here is the best I have ever hade. it's the perfect blend of pungent garlic and creamy. Th pita bread is good too. It's thicker and has some substance and I've noticed that most Mediterranean places have the thinner bread, which I don't like as much. The salad is always fresh. The owner is usually there or his daughter, and they are both really easy to deal with. they always want to make sure you have an enjoyable experience. this is def a lunch type of place pr a takeout place. I wouldn't take a date here. but I would def recommend on any Wednesday for lunch.

Here's how I think the ones I've had stack up.... 1. Mini Kabob. Non traditional dressing but the flavor is well balanced with fresh ingredients and tender chicken thigh meat on a very good tortilla. Slightly pricier than the others but worth it. 2. Ggiata. The best of the more traditional grilled chicken wraps with crunchy croutons inside and an outstanding tortilla. Their traditional Caesar dressing on the side is very good. The Venice location tastes better than the one in Highland Park. 3. Highly Likely (Highland Park). Very good wrap but without any croutons or crunchy elements. Solid tortilla but the dressing on the side isn't as flavorful as the top two. 4. Sweetgreen (Pasadena). Best of the chain restaurants. Good but can be a bit too salty. Their Chicken Cali Club wrap is actually better balanced flavor-wise. The wrap here is smaller but still good. All the above wraps were satisfying and filling with the one from Sweetgreen being the smallest.

I was initially going to complain about the price, but after tasting the flavor and quality, I'd say it was worth every penny.
