I have been in Arkansas for about a week, and BBQ sat high on my priority list. I drove past Whole Hog Cafe, noticed the sign, and decided to stop in. Friday night felt unusually slow. No wait to order. No wait for food. My order came out in about ten minutes. Speed was fine. Price was not. $31.94 for a two meat combo with burnt ends feels high, especially for the quality served. My tray arrived incomplete. Pulled pork was missing. Staff fixed the issue shortly after, so credit there. Potato salad tasted fine. Heavy ranch flavor. Potatoes were cooked well with some bite left. Decent side. Nothing memorable. Mac and cheese was unacceptable. Tasted like frozen grocery store mac and cheese. No seasoning. No depth. No reason for this to be on the menu. Pulled chicken had solid seasoning but arrived dry and barely warm. Sauce or a large drink felt required. Pulled pork arrived cold and lacked flavor. No smoke presence. No richness, and no moisture whatsoever. Burnt ends looked promising but failed on execution. Served cold. Bark was crisp. Some bites were moist. Other bites were dry. Flavor was average. These were brisket chunks, not true burnt ends. No caramelization. No sauce coating. Sauces were the highlight. Every option tasted good. The #1 classic mild stood out. The #3 tangy and spicy was also strong. Overall experience landed average to below average. The walls advertise BBQ championships, but the food did not support the reputation. Serving cold meat is unacceptable. Serving generic mac and cheese is worse. I expected far more from a place carrying this name. read more

I come here every year or so when I visit my dad in Bryant. It's gone downhill over the last 4-5 years. It's fine, but not the great BBQ it used to be. For example, I had the pulled chicken sandwich, and the chicken was dry, and in huge chunks, rather than pulled, chopped, shredded, or any other word that should be used to describe a good BBQ chicken sandwich. Their sauces are still good but I needed a LOT of sauce to salvage that sandwich. For $15.49 for a sandwich, one side, and a drink, it's not quite worth the money to me. read more

This visit started out of convenience because this location was near our hotel and we didn't want standard fast food. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We both got the pulled pork plate. Pork and options of sauces were great. We liked the size of the salad that was the size and the amount of stuff it had on top (although could have done with a few less onions). My side of cheesy corn was soooo good. This isn't real BBQ! None of the meats were actual smoky tasting, no smoke ring visible, tasted more like boiled brisket, and old roasted pork. Terrible excuse for barbecue!! Waste of $72. Please do NOT eat here, unless you want bland, dry, tasteless food. We tried 4 different meat items, and none were good, not qualified as "barbecue". If the bbq is good and authentic you don't need 6 different types of bbq sauce. They offer 6 kinds of bbq sauce at each table. I suppose it's to disguise the flavor of the meats. Also, the collard greens had very little seasoning, and the coleslaw wasn't creamy at all. We all agreed it was the WORST BBQ we've ever had. We live in the country, every time I come into town to get groceries and supplies I stop by at the Whole Hog Cafe and get some ribs for my husband. They are always so helpful and friendly, it's a joy to come and it feels like I am reconnecting with old friends. The restaurant is always clean and well stocked, the bathrooms are as well. My husband always gets a full rack of ribs and then has been trying all of the sides, he has not tried one that he did not love, but coleslaw and beans are his favorites. He has also tried the pulled pork and really liked it. I am allergic to pork, so I usually get the chicken and it does not disappoint. We are fans of sauce #6, mustard and vinegar and I love that there are so many choices to tailor your meal to your liking. Even the cornbread and sweet are traditionally southern and delicious. I wish we lived closer and could visit more often. read more

We used to love Whole Hog and I think a lot of Arkansas did. Something has changed in the last 10-15 years and it just isn't the same. The Bryant location just isn't quality bbq. It's dry and there's no flavor. I feel the need to drown it in sauce. The atmosphere is poor, it has a cafeteria feel. You would feel comfortable for lunch not dinner. The service is a solid 2. Teens are working most of the time. Don't expect much! Our to go orders are wrong most of the time. read more

My family and I had a very good experience at Whole Hog. The restaurant smells amazing when you walk and and there's truly something for everyone here. What I truly like about this place is the 7 different choices of BBQ sauce to choose from. I ordered them all and my favorite was the Volcano and the #4. I ordered the nachos and did half sausage, half pulled pork. Both items were excellent. My family tried just about everything else on the menu and were nice enough to let me try some of theirs. Seriously, everything was very good. When I said above that there was something for everyone here, I really did mean it. There is an option for a smoked chicken caesar salad. On our way back to Texas we spent the night near the Whole Hog Cafe. We were pleasantly surprise how good the BBQ was. Portions were large, sausage smoke perfectly as well as the brisket, great smoke ring. Staff were very friendly. So were other customers who advised us on what they liked the best. The restaurant's decor reminded us of being in a log cabin. Tables were cleaned frequency by friendly staff that asked if everything was okay. We ate early in the evening but by the time we left more tables were filled. Not surprised, great food! read more

This is Arkansas BBQ at its best and that is pretty good coming from a Texan. Wife and I had their brisket which at first glance was slightly more expensive than back home. The worst ribs I have ever had in my life. You can get great ribs at rib crib for $4 cheaper and get more ribs for your money and you will actually be able to eat them. This was a really bad disappointment to me. I got 4 ribs instead of a 1/2 rack. I should of paid for individual ribs it would of been cheaper. read more

Lived in Texas for three years and have had some great bbq. That being said the sauce variety was some of the best stuff I have ever tasted. Baked potato filled with turkey was well executed but would have like to see some green side items such as green beans etc. Ordered the chili and it was not very hot as well. I can have their loaded, baked potato with pulled pork every day of the week! Always fast and friendly.

Nice smoky flavor but the pork was dry today. I picked off the better bites from my sandwich. Did not order a side of slaw but asked for extra on my sandwich, so I suppose that is their process for charging for those two extra tablespoons. It's almost nonexistent on a sandwich if you don't get extra. Husband enjoyed his side of beans. Always friendly service and a lot of work crews eating there at lunch. read more

We love ribs it's hit or miss on the Quality of ribs and for the price of food nowadays it just doesn't seem worth the risk from here any longer Some times good some times tough as shoe leather. Not the best bbq in the world but not bad. Pretty good infact. But 100% the biggest portions ive had in years. They do not cheat you here. Got the pork and brisket. Brisket was a bit dry. But thats ok as i like to drown my meat in sauce. 6 different sauces. I preferred sauce 1 and 5. There was an optional volcano sauce. No one wanted that crap. The lady kept trying to get people to try it. Bbq is not spicy and people that do that to bbq should be punched in the nads. Props to the other customers for not ruining a good plate of bbq. Pork was ok. Potato salad is sour cream based and good. Cole slaw is mayo based but there is a dose of vinegar in there too. Not bad. I went right at noon and there was little business. Maybe 2-3 other tables the entire time. So not packed. If im in town again i will return. read more

I always get my pulled pork potato with sour cream and the #2 sauce it's delicious! It never disappoints!
