Fried okra, catfish and hush puppies
Judy M.

Parking lot was not packed, after being seated we were told the fried food would be a 30/45 minute wait due to all the tickets in the kitchen. We got our fried mushrooms in about 10 minutes. Food was another 15 minutes. The mushrooms, okra , hush puppies and catfish were over fried, grease was too hot. BBQ brisket was fair at best. The owner was very attentive and checked on us twice and explained how busy the kitchen was. Two couples left when told about the HOUR wait. We walked through the bar area when we left, two high tops, maybe 8 people and two tables where we sat. We saw no reason for the delay in food service. Trying to make a go of an old house with added on deck for outside dining and future live music. Hopefully they will work out the kinks.

Good bbq, great mushrooms, cold beer and wonderful, friendly service. Little hole in the wall bar with a big outdoor deck on the back with music. I'll be back

Great tasting, super hot catfish, squash and okra. They also know how to make mustard potato salad the right way! Great cozy dinner spot.

I have been in Arkansas for about a week, and BBQ sat high on my priority list. I drove past Whole…read moreHog Cafe, noticed the sign, and decided to stop in. Friday night felt unusually slow. No wait to order. No wait for food. My order came out in about ten minutes. Speed was fine. Price was not. $31.94 for a two meat combo with burnt ends feels high, especially for the quality served. My tray arrived incomplete. Pulled pork was missing. Staff fixed the issue shortly after, so credit there. Potato salad tasted fine. Heavy ranch flavor. Potatoes were cooked well with some bite left. Decent side. Nothing memorable. Mac and cheese was unacceptable. Tasted like frozen grocery store mac and cheese. No seasoning. No depth. No reason for this to be on the menu. Pulled chicken had solid seasoning but arrived dry and barely warm. Sauce or a large drink felt required. Pulled pork arrived cold and lacked flavor. No smoke presence. No richness, and no moisture whatsoever. Burnt ends looked promising but failed on execution. Served cold. Bark was crisp. Some bites were moist. Other bites were dry. Flavor was average. These were brisket chunks, not true burnt ends. No caramelization. No sauce coating. Sauces were the highlight. Every option tasted good. The #1 classic mild stood out. The #3 tangy and spicy was also strong. Overall experience landed average to below average. The walls advertise BBQ championships, but the food did not support the reputation. Serving cold meat is unacceptable. Serving generic mac and cheese is worse. I expected far more from a place carrying this name.

If you're looking for a homey place to get BBQ, give this a go…read more We came here for lunch on a Friday. It was pretty busy, but we snagged the last table. I got the BBQ chicken thighs with coleslaw and a side salad. They were moist and delicious, especially with the coleslaw. It was a good portion of food. I definitely could have taken some home. The service was great. The food was good. I'll be back to try the brisket and cakes for sure!

I preordered this pie on the Monday prior to the weekend it was needed and the kind lady on the phone said she'd make it happen and it'd be $48. (Yes I know crazy expensive for a fancy pie but like I said it was a special occasion and always very tasty). Last summer it was $34, but like everything else in the world things go up. I understand. At pick up on Friday, I was immediately helped by a different kind lady at the counter. It's a small establishment. There were a couple of families eating but not crowded or busy. She went back to the freezer to grab it and a guy from the back said "ring it up as open food put it as pb pie $50." She came out handed it to me and did as he told her to do. After tax it came out to 55 and some change. I asked if she knew the reason for the price change from when I ordered on Monday to pickup on Friday and she answered honestly saying you know I don't know but I'd be happy to ask our owner about it (the guy in the back) she went back there and asked him about it. He rudely yelled at this poor employee "I said it's $50. Tell her She was told wrong!!" I was shocked by his response and tone. The lady was embarrassed and on the verge of tears. She apologized for his answer and asked if I heard all of it. I said yes and apologized for her having to be in the middle since he clearly wasn't coming out from the back. It wasn't about the $2. The pie is already too expensive, but it's the principle of kindness, respect for your employees and customers, and dignity to face things that come up as a business owner. I wasn't looking to get something for nothing. I could care less about $2 but just curious about another increase that clearly wasn't even in there register system because he had to tell her to put it in differently. I should have addressed him right then but after hearing him yell from the back I didn't want to disrupt the other families eating in there any more than they had been already by his attitude and yelling. I will not be back.

It may not be for everyone, especially if you're looking for a more relaxed or upscale dining atmosphere. The environment can be busy and a bit hectic. Families move quickly through the dining area, and you'll likely be getting up often for food while navigating the usual buffet crowd. Service is minimal but efficient--staff clear plates quickly and check on drinks, but it's not a full-service experience. Some of the negative reviews seem to reflect expectations that don't quite match the concept. This is a self-seat, self-serve restaurant focused on volume rather than a high-end dining experience. If you go in with that understanding, it's a decent option for a quick, casual meal
