I have been going here for years. Recently I have been going more often to help support a local small business. I was in today. No masks on employees or customers. I am very disappointed to see this as we are in the middle of a Pandemic that's about to get worse. I do believe it is still a requirement to wear masks in Maricopa county. I won't be back until the Pandemic is over....then Maybe... :( read more

Really good bread and sweets. I love the pumpkin cake, cinnamon rolls and the sourdough bread.

First visit here. We bought a few different items. I was very impressed with their spelt and 9-grain breads. Very good. One of the better bakeries I've discovered so far. read more

Everything I have tried has been excellent. Love the cranberry walnut and cinnamon raisin walnut breads. So happy I decided to stop.

We used to come here all of the time & loved it. We haven't been in about a year because we moved. My husband stopped in today to get me lunch while I'm home sick & the staff acted as if he was annoying them. He had to ask for their help & they still treated him poorly. He brought me home soup in a bread bowl. The bread bowl tastes like cheap, soggy white bread. Sad to say today is our last time eating here. read more

WOW! This morning I couldn't figure out what I wanted but knew it needed to be something new to me. So I stopped by Whole Grain Bread Co. and happy I did. The front counter person was very friendly and helpful. She also did an excellent job at explaining what they offer and there point system. At 1st look I said, darn I could have made this sandwich at home...major correction I can't...and won't! It's the bread that set this sandwich apart from others! Hey have other sweet treats here if that's your thing! read more

So I ordered a Dutch Apple pie on Monday to pick up today the day before Thanksgiving. I go in to pick it up the girl puts a pie in a bag and gives it to me since I already paid for it. I go out to my car to look in the bag and it's a regular apple pie. So I go back inside to explain that I ordered the Dutch apple pie, this other girl behind the counter goes to try to find the Dutch apple and can't find it. Comes back to me and says sorry this is all we have, we have had a lot of orders but I can offer you a cinnamon roll or something. I know there are worse things in life right now to worry about but it's annoying I placed the order ahead of time and didn't get what I ordered. Won't be doing business with them again. read more

I was going through my past reviews and saw my review for Whole Grain and wanted to go ahead and update! I had ordered 200 bread bowls for my weddings and come the day of my wedding literally the morning of I get a call from the bakery and am asked if they can actually be picked up 1.5 hours after the initial time that was given to me by the gal who wrote down and took my order. The stress level that day was already insane, imagine getting told that 200 bread bowls are arriving 1.5 hours later and have to tell the caterer who would be using them that they have to wait to begin because these hadn't arrived. They still needed to be cut and the extra bread inside gutted and I knew this which is why I paid my caterer for the extra time to show up early and do this. So my wedding party and mother helped the caterer in the kitchen cut and gut because by that time she was behind schedule 1.5 hours. read more

Clean business, easy access, good hours. On the down side, small selection, limited inventory. My first visit here 6/8/16. There were no other customers. I was surprised by the small selection of baked goods. In the photo with the bakery items on shelving above greenish cabinet doors, that's actually their entire store. When I arrived it was about 70% empty, I arrived about 8:30am. I believe they also make sandwiches to order. If you're looking for a full service bakery, cakes, pastries, breads, buns, rolls, ethnic baked goodies... this is not that type of bakery. read more

Let's just say that this whole review could be summed up with a GIF of me drooling and stuffing my face, but I'll go ahead and use my words! Someone I used to work with told me about this place and brought me one of their epic cinnamon rolls. I owe her for life (thanks Julie!), because this place is amazing. Their cinnamon rolls are indeed epic and come plain, with raisins, or with walnuts, and they are fresh and gooey and iced and the size of my head. Their granola is awesome if you're like me and enjoy it chewy and full of nuts and seeds. Seriously, if left to my own devices, I can eat a whole bag in one sitting. I probably need an intervention. I haven't tried anything else here yet, but I look forward to happily chewing my way through their fresh bread, cake slices, and deli sandwiches made with Boar's Head meats and cheeses--my favorite. I could eat here every day if I lived in Gilbert, and it's probably good that I don't, because no one else would get any of their food. read more

I get a sandwich from here for lunch almost 3 times a week! I am so grateful for this place and for the fact that I can get a healthy quick meal (call your order in and pick up) and get back on my day of work. If you're wanting to share some sweets with the family, their oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon swirl bread toasted are the best I've ever had! I am grateful for their low prices and reward system too!! Thanks Whole Grain! read more

If you like cinnamon rolls. These guys make the best cinnamon rolls. They have not just one kind of cinnamon roll they've got walnut, rasin, plain, whole wheat, raspberry. I am so happy that they are still around. Years ago perhaps the late 1990's maybe 1998-1999. I would buy whole wheat cinnamon rolls at Whole Foods. Which came from Whole Grain Natural bread. It was some thing that was a nice treat. And I appreciated that they were whole grain and vegan. Then one day I was shopping at Whole Foods and I didn't see my cinnamon rolls from Whole Grain Natural bread. As a matter of fact I didn't see any of their bread products( loafs of bread, cinnamon rolls challa bread cookies.) So I asked a Whole Foods employee. "Hey what happened to the really good whole wheat cinnamon rolls you guys always carried from Whole Grain Natural Bread?" I was told that the company was no longer going to be delivering their products; As one of the delivery drivers had an accident and either they didn't have another delivery tuck or some kind of issue with auto insurance. I was momentiarly crest fallen. I loved their bread products especially their cinnamon rolls. Minimal ingredients and whole grains and vegan. I was told that they were going to stay in business but if I wanted any of their products I'd have to drive over to Mesa. Now I live far away and I cannot find any place that makes delicious whole wheat vegan cinnamon rolls. I phoned While Grain Natural Bread and low and behold they are still in business . That's good news. Pat an employee that answered the phone informed me that they still make cinnamon rolls. However they only make the whole wheat ones by special order. But she said they have no problem making them just call ahead and let them know how many you would like and they will take care of you. These guys are great. Please cheque them out go get some of their great whole grain bread or pastries. Ask them for the whole wheat cinnamon rolls. It refreshing that theirs a bakery that uses high quality ingredients and whole grain. read more

The address and the phone number do not match. They verified a 9am pick up time the day before, then this morning pushed it to 10:45/11, then we delayed our trip two hours to be able to get it. When we arrived at the address, there is not store at the location. It is actually in Gilbert, not on Camelback and 32nd street. Merry Christmas. read more

OMG hidden gem! Got the chicken salad sandwich on sourdough bread with everything I wanted inside like honey mustard, lettuce, tomato, etc.. And I couldn't stop eating! The whole was huge, and I ate the whole damn thing. Definitely my must-go to sandwich place the next time I visit Pheonix again! read more

Great little Bakery. My favorite bread is the sprouted grain and after that the onion rye. They bake very good bread here and their sweets are very good also. Natural ingredients, wholesome taste. Even my vegan friends can enjoy the bread here. read more

Rude response..... we've been honing to whole grains for while now. But just recently we stopped by to buy our favorite cinnamon rolls. We purchased 4. When we got home 1 had some type of flying insect. We didn't think anything about it and touched the box away. But the following day we had another roll with a flying insect in it as well. We called to let someone know about the issue, and with no apology the response "was this is a first " in a very rude manner. The Implication sounded like we are lying.... the did mentioned that had fresh rolls today, and to stop by to replace the roll, but bring the roll so she could see it. Not a way to treat a customer. So keep your roll and we won't be returning! read more

You're missing out of you don't grab one of their sandwiches!! I love the point reward system and the baked goodies!

I hate to say it, but I have to knock a star off after my last two visits to Whole Grain Natural Bread. I placed an order for 20 loaves of cinnamon swirl bread last week and set up a day and time to pick them up. When I arrived, I was pressed for time for another appointment and found they were still placing the bread in bags. Luckily it worked out okay, so I placed an order for 50 more loaves for this week for gifts for friends and co-workers, and paid in advance. When I arrived yesterday, none of the bread was bagged, and, because the loaves were still cooling, they were unable to completely twist-tie the bags closed because condensation would form. This made me nervous because, thanks to my labrador, the back compartment of my car always has a little dog hair floating around, and who wants food with someone else's dog hair in it? They had run out of their store labels, so none of the loaves had this information, which I would have preferred so people knew where the yummy bread came from. They also grabbed a few loaves off the store shelves to complete my order. When I arrived home, many of the warm loaves were smashed because they were still so soft. (The loaves they grabbed off the store shelves were fine because they'd already cooled and firmed up a little.) The smashed loaves didn't make for a great gift presentation as they didn't look very nice. read more

Whole Grain Natural Bread - Bakeries Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

See all

it would be 5 stars but like other reviews say...the young high school kids who work here don't always have that "I want a job attitude." in fact as of late, it's more like: "my parents make me work at this fang dang bakery and i'd really rather be chillin wid me homies down the 60 freezeway at that hott Golfland/Sunsplash organization! bro it the Disney Land of Country Club Drive son! the VERY place where theys filmed the original Bill + Ted's Coolio Advertures! but no, but NO...i'm slingin an apron and breathing in AP flour all summer. so WAH, frowny face. pouty face i'm a baby" but i digress... i really wish there were more places in any given metro area that only use a few real food ingredients. a place where the product expires after a few days. a place where they only have a certain number of products because they specialize in making actual F-O-O-D. Whole Grain Natural Bread (awful name) doesn't bat .1000 ...there have been some misfires: occasional underbaked cookies and the other odd rare miss. but overall this place cranks out delicious bread, excellent desserts (their choc chip cookies are usually great, cinnamon rolls are fresh, brownies are bangin), just a really nice local spot that has a HUGE kitchen---they make the product they sell. genius!! since the back of the house is 90% of the real estate space i'm guessing they do a lot of wholesale and special events. we've been coming here 10+ years and have always used the storefront...breads and desserts for the fam. customer service needs improvement and i would not buy a sandwich for lunch (same as getting it from a Fry's/processed meats be so 1994)...but the main event are the house-made breads and in my opinion this is some of the best bread in Arizona. read more

I ordered chicken pot pies for my daughter's birthday is that was her request. The store was incredibly clean all of the employees were wearing masks they had my order ready on time and gave me the directions for cooking them. I was super impressed and the pot pies were fantastic. So incredibly tasty. Will be returning for our special orders. read more

Drive 25 minutes roundtrip, 3 times a week to get bread at this place. They are honest, and friendly when I go in. Most importantly they use ingredients with integrity. All of the breads have 3-6 ingredients. It's hard nowadays to trust products/companies that say they are "natural" or substitute free. The great Paul Wall once said: "It take money to make money I said, So you gotta have dough to make bread." Never truer words Paul. read more

I love the bread but I'll never eat lunch at this place again. I ordered a sandwich and they served it with two bread heels instead of regular bread slices. The heels were hard and chewy. read more

My dept. went on a company outing and we needed to take lunch, so we tried this place and boy were we HAPPY!! When I originally called to place the order I was buying 2 lbs of their chicken salad, loaves of bread and all the fixings! They called me back and said it would just be cheaper to charge me for X # of sandwiches and they would just package everything separate. Less than $40 to feed 7 people!! The chicken salad is fantastic, we had the 9 grain bread and the honey wheat both were fantastic. Bread is baked fresh onsite daily, also tried a pumpkin/cranberry muffin and was not disappointed at all. They have many varieties of bread and they all look amazing. Will definitely go back. read more

Many breads, so many varieties, all made right there and nutritious. Don't be fooled though, they don't just make loaves of bread, they make very good sandwiches as well on their delicious bread. I believe they use Boar Head products and it's hard to go wrong with that. read more

This place is amazing. We drive 30 minutes for their bread and it is so worth it. They do such an amazing job and the times we need to order 14 loafs, they are so great with timing, calling us if needed to push back pick up time. Each time we have visited the customer service has been great. Thank you Whole Grain Natural Bread Company, we love your quality and amazing taste of your products. read more

Love the bran muffins and scones. Terrific when picked up in the am. Usually they are still warm at 7:00am and freshly baked every day. 1 day old items are usually 1/2 price if you want to save a little money read more

Great FRESH bread in many varieties. Their pastries aren't as good as the bread is. We have a gluten-free person in our house & the spelt bread is the best we've found - even better than most we've made ourselves. Service is always good. Many people come here for lunch. I haven't done that yet, but it always looks & smells great. Very grateful to have them here! read more

I love their breads and cookies!! Great homemade stuff and they make some great sandwiches for lunches.

My husband and I love fresh bread and were very sad when the bakery we frequented when out of business. So, I was very excited to find this place. We arrived around 9:30 a.m. to find empty shelves! What bakery has empty shelves at 9:30 in the morning? I thought, wow, this place must be so good they sold out. But, no. Their daily bread isn't ready until after 1:00 p.m. We traveled 25 minutes to get to this place for their Rye bread only to find out their daily bread isn't ready until after 1:00 p.m.! Maybe they should put that on the website? Bought one of the few breads they did have, which was sourdough. Very bland. I gave them 2 stars because of the sweet woman behind the counter. read more

I love the healthy breads here. The employees are nice. Their website has a lot of good details.

I am a local chiropractor and have been going to this wonderful business since 2000, call me a millennial, lol. Sandwiches, bread, cookies, etc are all great. They are so friendly. Thank you for years of goodness!!!! read more

Pretty good homemade bread products. We stopped by for lunch and had the chicken salad which was decent.

The fresh scent of baked bread filled the room so you will get hungry once you are in the building. This reminds me of the French Bakery in Europe and Asia where it was extremely alluring. We ordered two sandwich to go and some baked goods. The sandwich was decent but the fail came from discounted Bran muffins which was Chocolate chip infused which I believe they used too high of the grade of coca which made it extremely bitter. I couldn't eat it and neither was my friend. That said, other stuff were decent.. read more

Maybe it's just me but this place should have 5 stars! I went in for a sandwich and wanted it on their jalapeño cheddar

Our first visit to the Whole Grain Natural Bread Co. we walked into a very unhappy environment. We were the only costumes there and no one looked up to say hello, every employee looked so upset! So it was very uncomfortable, even when we ordered... The cinnamon rolls were very tasty and the bread looks great but I'm not sure so would come back because of the atmosphere. read more

Great place for lunch using their homemade bread. Most of the desserts are ok. They just started baking pies and they are awesome. Small pies are $5 and large ones are $12 read more
