Just left Chef Leo's Food Lab and we had so much fun! Highly recommend for a date night, a couple's evening out, girl's night out, team building or just because you want to experience something new. Chef Leo and his assistant were very nice and were always nearby if you had a question or needed help. EVERYTHING was delicious! And you get to take the recipes home. We did the Cooking with Bourbon class - a MUST. My husband and i plan on doing a Date Night class or the Seafood class. BYOB - that's a plus too.

So I hear about Chef Leo's food lab when at another cooking class a few weeks ago and figured I had to check it out for myself! What a fun experience! I went to a Truffle Shuffle Class and enjoyed everything! Chef is so friendly and engaging and the food items so unique! The class selections are so different! Great for foodies! Everyone was so great and loved the family meal at the end!

What a fun experience! Totally worth the price and time! My favorite part was being able to sit family style, eat and share stories with strangers! An experience like this shows how nice random people can be! My girlfriend bought us two tickets to the pasta class and it did not disappoint! It was very interactive and everyone was able to participate! And the food was delicious! Definitely coming back! 10/10!!

Chef Leo is fantastic in every way!

Cindy and I had a great experience with Chef Leo today. The menu was Mediterranean tapas. Twelve people divided into 5 groups, and each group prepared one dish from start to finish. The food was delicious, and now we have the recipes for each dish. We also learned about some new kitchen gadgets we hadn't used before. Chef Leo moves among the groups with tips and suggestions. Everyone is encouraged to move around, socialize, and see what other groups are doing. Leo is knowledgeable, personable, smart, and fun. His assistant, Kelly, is also great, very helpful and friendly. This was a lot of fun, a good learning experience, and a very tasty affair overall. We will be going back again, intrigued by classes focused on bacon, others on bourbon, and all sorts of other diverse food ideas.

    Delicious!

Planned a work event for my team back in February and Chef Leo was excellent! So much fun, such a great concept, and Chef Leo is an amazing chef. Thank you so much! This was a great team-building event! Highly recommend this as a group activity for teams. They all had a blast!

What a wonderful experience! I invited 12 friends "to dinner"; they had no idea they would be cooking their own meal! But what a pleasant surprise for us all. Planning: chef Leo was responsive and accommodating and I couldn't ask for better communication! Meal: many many options, I chose the "make your own pasta fettuccine" and added salmon and chicken as protein options Location/layout: perfect. In a very unassuming "strip mall" (between a restaurant and massage parlor) it was the perfect surprise with plenty of parking! Kitchen brightly lit and accommodated 13 with ease. Chef Leo was prepared for us, having measured out many things ahead of time, and prepping the chicken, but allowing plenty of work for us to do, to ensure we could say "we did make and cook our own meal" Plenty of room and opportunity for all of us to do something of significance: slicing and dicing, making the sauce from scratch and EVERYBODY got their hands "dirty" in the making of the pasta We were then all able to sit at the table and enjoy the meal together, seated and talking about the experience. ByOB if you like and even your own music to connect to the blue tooth speaker! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience: my first cooking class of this kind. Def will look to do similar more often. And HIGHLY recommend Chef Leo if you're in the area! And yes...the food was awesome! From the pasta to the salmon to the salad to the bruschetta! lol. Not much left over to take home, it was so good!! We started about 6:30, and were seated and eating by 8p ish? He almost had to "kick us out" at 9p as we found ourselves so comfortably eating and talking and just enjoying each others company (We were 13, visiting from out of town) Def book a class with Chef Leo...you won't regret it!

We had the best time last night at Chef Leo's! We signed up for this class as a Christmas gift for my mom, and it was such a great time that we now want to come back with our whole family. Leo provided really easy to follow instructions so this class is great for all levels, and the food was delicious! We signed up for The Bear themed night where we got to try recipes from one of our favorite shows. Everything turned out fantastic! We were so nervous at first thinking about cooking with people we didn't know (ours was a group of four and there were 10 total in the class), but right away Leo made the atmosphere so relaxed and casual and everyone was socializing together by the end. If you are looking for high pressure, Gordon Ramsay style cooking classes, this is not it. For a casual, relaxed, fun and social environment where you can learn to cook some fantastic dishes but with zero pressure to be perfect, please sign up for one of these classes! You even get the recipes after the class so we will definitely be making these again at home, and we'll be back soon to try some of the other classes. Thank you for a great night Chef Leo!

My family had a blast cooking at Chef Leo's! The food was delicious and the company and atmosphere made it even more fun. Chef Leo is an excellent host and instructor. Definitely wanting to return for more classes.

We took our 14-year-old son and his friends to chef Leo's lab for his birthday and had so much fun! They are all inspired and want to cook more. My son wants to be a chef when he grows up so he was really into it and Chef Leo made it easy for everyone.

So fun! We went here to celebrate our anniversary. The menu is varied, recipes are simple to follow, and everything is well organized. This is a casual environment where each pair works on a different recipe and you all get to share the food together at the end. Everything is pre-measured and Leo is there to help with any questions. There are many classes to choose from. This was super fun and a neat way to try something different. Great for birthdays, anniversaries, team building, bachelorette parties, and more!

We had already attended the frys on shea baking night making scones where we just helped the chef... It was more an informational class to sit across the bar because I suppose their insurance doesn't allow you to really get involved there. Other courses in the valley are larger scale classrooms with more students where you won't get as involved and you may as well watch a video online for free. I have to say when I talked to Maggie about how the structure was and if we cooked or helped, I was happy to hear that her response was "oh, I give you an intro and sample how to make things but you're doing the prep and the cooking." She gave an intro that is great for beginners and culinary experts alike. Pay attention during her review of recipes though, because the rest of the class will be sharing your dish when you are done preparing it. The kitchen environment allowed for plenty of room for six people in our class to both cook and move around safely as well as plenty of preparation knives, cutting boards, measuring and mixing bowls, A beautiful set of all clad cookware and a gorgeous Viking 6 top gas grill. If you're concerned that it needs to be a professional kitchen for classes I'd say she and her husband setup the kitchen in a professional manner. My wife and I absolutely loved our date night, the prep work together and with the other classmates, and the food to top it off was awesome! My advice to this : Be hungry- there will be a ton of food to enjoy! Bring wine :) Take notes so you can make the dishes again at home. Thank you Maggie!

She taught us not just how to cook, but how to prep, basic knife handling, and an interesting way to prepare garlic. The first part of the class we all sat with our recipes and watched Maggie in the kitchen while she explained everything. Then we split into groups of 2 and tackled one recipe for each group. When we were done, our reward was the amazing food we cooked! Every dish complimented the others spectacularly. I cannot wait to make these again at home. Thank you Maggie for a lovely evening!

EVIT Bistro 13 sits on the south side of Main Street in west Mesa and is easily passed by; but you…read moreshould look for it and stop in for a bite to eat. Situated in front of a Standard Restaurant Supply store and, appropriately, next to the East Valley Institute of Technology, is a great breakfast and lunch eatery run by culinary students under the tutelage of a chef/instructor. Like most other "school/retail" establishments such as massage schools, beauty schools, hair institutes and the like, two things are prominent here: a great price and value for a product, and a high likelihood of receiving a quality product and service. However, because this is a school run by learning students, there is the chance that one or both of these things will be amiss; but that tends to not be the norm here. Inside there is a travel theme clearly conceived and decorated by students. There are mosaics, paintings and even metal wall art that no doubt has been crafted by EVIT students that fit nicely into a student run/themed restaurant. The colors inside are appealing and attractive, refreshing even. There is also a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy your meal al fresco. From the outside, it is obvious that Bistro 13 is a former fast food building. This allows for ample parking and the presence of a drive-thru. If you are in a hurry or want an order to go, just call ahead and pick up your meal from the drive-thru. Because each order is cooked fresh, service can be a bit slow, but you are rewarded with a hot, fresh and tasty meal. I was told that everything is made fresh, on premises, including such things as dressings, sauces and dips, waffle cut fries and even desserts. In addition, there are daily specials that seem to fit the overall theme of "Global Cuisine," so look forward to additional surprises not seen on the regular menu. One drawback of freshly prepared food cooked to order is that wait times for your meal can go into the 10+ minute range for something like the tasty Panko Chicken Fingers or a Sonoran Chicken Sandwich even when moderately busy. However, the food is generally worth the wait. This is also why you will want to call ahead before using the drive-thru. When dining inside, you order and pay at the counter, then the food is delivered to you by one of the students or instructors. There is real flatware wrapped in napkins and real glassware used for the beverages - so kudos to EVIT for not going the "disposable" route. So what about the food? Besides being hot and fresh, the flavors are distinct, not over the top, and proportionally thought through. There is a nice level of spice, when appropriate, and seasoning is consistently spot-on. The sauces and dressings are tasty and distinct enough from each other to please almost any palette. The fries are seasoned nicely, and are only enhanced by NOT HEINZ ketchup - but a proper International Red Sauce that usually is called catsup. (Read my other reviews and you will know my affinity for catsup that is not the rotten tasting, overly-sweet, lacking real tomato flavor, Heinz variety that is way too prevalent in restaurants today - please, more places offer any other brand besides Heinz, you are doing your food a dis-service by using Heinz). But, I digress. Other notable touches are homemade pickle spears that are crispy crunchy and distinctly seasoned and the ability to substitute bread on a sandwich with two grilled Portobello mushrooms for a low-carb option. Overall, I am impressed with the food choices offered at Bistro 13. Given the reasonably priced menu items, I know most diners will be happy they stopped here. Just know that the hours are limited to two and a half hours for breakfast and three hours for lunch after being closed for an hour in between, so get to breakfast by 9:30am or lunch by 1:30pm and if you go at 10:00am or 2:00pm, you are out of luck; so plan ahead. And yes, they take credit cards. Overall Rating: 4 Stars Food: 4.3 stars Service: 3.8 Stars Cleanliness: 3.6 Stars Atmosphere: 4 Price/Value: 4.5 Stars
