Took in my classic truck because I was getting tired of the exhaust drone that was becoming annoyingly loud inside the cab now that I'm driving it more. I asked for their opinion and at at first we were going to do an "H" pipe but thought it may still have too much drone. We settled on two new Magna Flow mufflers to replace the Flowmaster 50 series and I am extremely happy with the sound. They did a great job and took care not to scratch or hit my truck. I usually don't have good experience with mechanics and my cars :( But Hugo made me feel comfortable and did exactly what I wanted. Their lift is set up to accommodate lowered cars/trucks, the truck is really low in front and the lift positioned next to the driveway accommodated the truck with no issues, other shops have to do a bunch of blocks and make shift ramps to not hit my bumper. A great place to have your car needs met! I came to Whittier Muffler to get some basic muffler work done. Service was quick, no-nonsense, and very friendly. Hugo, who appeared to be the proprietor, attended to my car needs and took care of business right away. I got an honest estimate up-front, and Hugo didn't try to stick me with unnecessary accessories or additional expenses. The price quoted was fair -- though not cheap -- and the work was solid. (I'm happy paying a little more for good quality work, which was definitely the case on this occasion.) Place is a complete rip off! Quoted us 2000 to fix an engine problem in our car by the time we picked it up they ended up charging us close to 5000 for work that we did not approve. In addition, our car ended up having more issues that it did not have before they worked on it and they refused to fix it because "they only worked on top of the engine". Great service, great quality of work, great crew and very reasonable prices. I only heard about this place through Yelp as well and since it had high ratings, I thought I'd give it a try. At first, I was really worried when they started working on my muffler tips and what I had asked them to do. But as the time goes by, the guy working on my SUV his name was Javier is really good at listening to what I want and actually checks with me to see if I am happy with the fabrication he was doing. Each step he checks with me. Great guy and he is new as well. He told me that he's only been there for a year and that his specialty is actually airbags and suspension but I would have never known unless he told me. He has great attention to detail and really takes pride in his work. I NEVER EVER TIP anyone asides from paying the bill but this time, even before he finished working on my SUV I knew I had to tip him on the side which I did. I have been going to Whittier Muffler for all my car service needs for over a year now. I have an older car that needs routine maintenance. I feel Hugo and his crew always does great work in a timely manner and I never feel over charged. Hugo always breaks down the expenses for parts and labor. He's always honest. Being a women sometimes it's intimidating going to a shop for car repairs especially without a ton of knowledge about cars. They always break it down for me and I really appreciate that. Bottom Line: Dishonest and rude. Find a second or third opinion before settling on this shop. Maybe the reviews are too good to be true. See for yourself. Story: I came here about 6 months ago with a transmission issue (this was the last shop i consulted with that day, the other two being Fred's Automotive and Johnny's Auto Repair). I did talk with the owner Hugo. I explained what was going on and without looking at me/making eye contact, he said it would be a whole new $2,000 transmission job. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes and walked-off. Apparently he had no time for a new customer or even take a second to look/test drive my car (which the other two shops did). So I left. My car ended up having a $90 speed sensor issue (Johnny's said this initially, though i didn't get my work done from them and I haven't any work done by them). Hugo is so nice and takes his time to talk with you about the problem(s) you have with your car. He also stays a little after hours to go that extra mile for you to check out your car and see what needs to be done, and thus give you an estimated date that it could be finished by. All the while, he is keeping in touch with you by phone letting you know the status on your Huffy. That's GREAT customer service and it's the best I've ever had elsewhere. I've come here twice with two different cars and the prices here are ALSO the best that I've heard! First, I had my headers fixed (and motor mount put back on...) on my gorgeous '91 CRX for 225 bucks. Then I totaled my car bc I rear-ended the hell out of a truck, BUT my headers were STILL perfectly fine AND intact! That's great work if you ask me! Then, more recently, I took my '99 Rav4 to get a new clutch. 600 bucks is cheap compared to everywhere else I got an estimate at (including Pep Boys and miscellaneous other shops around the area), so AGAIN I chose Whittier Muffler, and my car is running like new! ;) read more

Very disappointed with the work that Hugo has done. I was recommended by someone to go to him. he charged me 300$ for parts 700$ for labor total of 1,027$ and my truck is still not working. My mechanic sent me to him because there was a problem with Catalytic Converter that was plugged up, he "removed" old, "replaced" with new (how do I know he did?) He went ahead and did "extra work" that was probably not needed. He replaced sparkplugs (they looked fine to me whennhe showed me) he "cleaned" up throttle that alone was 200$ dollars! Ridiculous! I feel taken advantage of. I pretty much handed him 1, ooo$ for what? My car is not driveable now I have to have someone double check his work I'm ratimg NO stars, this yelp thing is asking me to at least rate a star, or else it would ge negative stars read more

Brought another one of my cars to swap out aftermarket exhaust for the stock one. Once again I received amazing service and pricing! They really took care of me! They had to do some welding and fabricating to fit the stock exhaust in with the cat from the after market exhaust, but they didn't charge me any extra. For sure coming back here! read more

These guys are on top of their game. I've gone in not to get anything done for my car yet, but for my motorcycle. They drilled holes into my baffles on the ends of my pipes for a slightly louder, more throaty sound. Good temporary fix until I can pay for some straight pipes they've already offered to fabricate for me. Really nice guys and quick service. read more

Inspite of all the all the positve reviews we did not have a great experience with Hugo!! Service was very unperfessional Hugo was rude and didn't keep his word as promised. My son whom is a honest working young man took his car to Whittier Muffler and trusted Hugo with his Hugo's kind words, smooth talk and all (although actions speak louder that words). Well two months later my son FINALLY got his car back from Whittier Muffler and Hugo stated it was completed~ my son's car broke down on the way driving it home. So back the car went only to have it break down once again. My son nearly got killed driving home from the muffler shop down the street as his car stopped in the middle of the intersection on 5 points. I usaully would never get involved and writing these type of bad reviews because I feel "What you do to other will be done unto you!" But after experiencing my son using his honest working money in paying Hugo $2200 for a unfixed car and Hugo now saying "That's not my problem" doesn't do well with me. Whittier Muffler Auto Repair is the best mechanic shop around. About a year ago I bought a 1989 Toyota MR2, not knowing that it had a few issues. The car ran, but not very well. After Hugo did some work on the car, it's as if it just rolled out of the Toyota factory. Hugo is a great guy. First off he's an awesome mechanic, this guy knows what he's talking about and can properly diagnose and repair anything that's thrown at him. Next, he speaks perfect English, which is great because that means I can clearly communicate to him what I'm experiencing with the car, and he can explain to me with perfect clarity exactly what is wrong, and what he'll be doing to the car. His prices are very reasonable even for a broke college student, but I would gladly pay a lot more for the quality of work I get from Hugo.
