My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos and said they were delicious. I ordered the Caesar salad and added chicken; it was delicious and the Parmesan on the salad was freshly shaved. i agree about this place being more Instagram'able than foodie hangout so just be prepared. I don't know if I completely dislike it because the food was just okay or due to it also being overpriced for what it was. Our server was very animated and over the top with his recommendations that I wondered if it's more a show. The decor was a cross between a garage diner turned 80's vibe. The place was casual with a 'gram flair. Tables outside were comfortable until the headlights of cars were shining in my face and no see ums were noshing on us. The inside was comfortable and spacious. The baked oysters were good. The tuna app was small (3 per) in a crusty shell that lacked much flavor. The snapper was the recommendation and the fish itself was good except the rice was a cold, clump that left much to be desired beside a red pepper and onion mix. I heard the fish sandwich had a decent amount of grouper. The crab cake was pretty good compared to the rest. For dessert, the donut holes were fresh, hot and not too sweet. Whitney's is an absolute vibe. The Longboat Key restaurant has a little bit of everything for everyone. The main attraction is the environment itself, boasting retro beach design and decor, something straight out of a movie. Was this place an old gas station? It very well could be. Anywho, as soon as you walk up the entrance you're immersed in Old Florida. Palm trees, patio furniture, garage doors, white subway tiles, hanging plants and white walls. Whoever designed this restaurant deserves an A+. And the food/drink menu pretty much matches. A coastal menu with fresh seafood all around. The Chilled Seafood Platter ($55) has lobster, shrimp, crab louie, oysters and accoutrements. For a pricey dish, it's something to be split amongst the table, and if you feel like balling out it's a reliable platter of freshness. Local Fish Sandwich // blackened or fried, lettuce, tomato, tartar, fries. When we visited, the fish of the day was grouper, which brought a smile to my face. I appreciate that they let the fish speak for itself and not trying to do too much. For $23, I definitely recommend getting it blackened. The fish was flaky and fresh. The bun was soft and chewy. What stole the show, however, were the Donut Holes. Ricotta donuts with cinnamon sugar. I don't know who thought of adding ricotta to donut batter, but that person deserves a medal of some kind. Nothing quite like a fresh to order donut, these were absolutely stellar. You'll run a fat tab while you're here, but you'll be happy you did. read more

This place was solidly good, but was not great. Nice outdoor seating area, pet-friendly inside and out, and OK service. They never came back to our table after dropping off the food to check in, so we had empty cups for a while and then had to get some refills as we were getting the check. Otherwise it all flowed pretty well and the food was pretty good. Not great, but solidly good. I got the egg sammy and it was flavorful but quite sweet and really messy - I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. The sweet potato fries were pretty solid, though the ranch-ish dip on the side lacked much flavor. We had a party of 10 (with 6 kids) and I knew the gratuity would already be added in, and honestly paying 20% for the garbage service we received was irritating. Quinn did an excellent job as our host this afternoon for lunch - he was friendly, professional, and a very kind human. The fish bites are a great value, and every plate we had - the LBK bowl with grouper, the grouper sandwich, and the garden salad with chicken all had very generous portions of protein; the sandwich and bowl both were splittable. We rode our bike 16 miles to reach Whitney's. We have eaten and drank here since the year it opened. It's a sweet destination. So laid back. The drinks are memorable which is hard to achieve if this is a one week a year visit. The one disappointment was the $10. Up charge for a floater on my margarita. $24 for a drink even on LBK is rich. The LBK salad and the kale and Brussel salads were great. The staff from wait staff to bartender were top shelf. In this tight employment market this place is blessed to have them. Whoever does the swag marketing needs a nudge. They have a great symbol of a guy and gale but for four years running they don't sell shirts with them!! Thus the 4 stars. It's not so much the food (although two out of four dishes were superb, one out of four was very good, and the fourth was perfectly fine), but the overall vibe of this hipster-renovated gas station is great. The design and the colors captivate. Will return. Cafe latte was on the tasty side of ok. The relatively short brunch menu is navigable and it works; there is enough there to find something that suits one's mood but not too much to get lost in. Friendly and helpful staff. Bathrooms are off to the side of the building and not quite up to the rest of the renovation's standards...because it was a gas station. After an afternoon on the beach, where should we eat? Whitney's was the choice. From 3-5 is happy hour and cocktails are half price. We had the tuna Tatar which were small tacos- tasty but little tuna and not worth the $14. The burger was good and overall, a nice dining experience but not the $80( with tip). I love the concept of this place and the vibe but it is not a cheap bodega.l Based on my experience, the lunch menu is better than the dinner menu. We stumbled upon Whitney's after taking photos on the beach and we are so glad we did! The service was amazing (Sydney, you're AWESOME!) and the food was unreal. We discovered this place by total accident and been leaving 15 minutes away from it ! It is not easy to see from the road . It is just beautiful and has that perfect beachy feel that we fell in love with ! . I can't say anything negative about the feel and atmosphere. The waitress was very nice and attentive and told us right off the bat to seat wherever we wanted ( glad she told us ) which there was a sign to let you know . The food though very disappointed. This was our first time visiting Ana Maria Island and had so much fun exploring the little beaches. We were exceptionally excited to find Whitney's on longboat key! It's a cute and an instagram worthy spot ! They serve coffee, wine, beer, and frose! In the mornings they only serve coffee and have bites from their bodega market side. Lunch and dinner they have delicious food including Brussels, fries, fish sandwiches, tacos! Our favorites (must gets) included the chicken tacos (they use crispy parantha bread for the shell) and coconut shrimp! Everything was cooked perfectly and the frose cooled us down after a long day at the beach! They are currently seating 25% and have tons of seating outside. Staff are wearing masks and gloves! A downside to this place are the prices - slightly steep for a beachside 'quick eats' type vibe. read more

The CHARRED OYSTERS were ok, way too salty and tasted like they were made in advance (cheese was hard). Ordered a chesse burger medium, came well done. Ordered the STEAK SANDWICH which had no favor at all and again tasted like it was sitting under the heating lamps. Loved Whitney's! Can't wait to go back. Food was great and the service was spot on. Cool restaurant with tables inside and outside under a structure. We had an early dinner and had no issue finding a table for a party of 4 1/2. The kids decided on a crab cake for an appetizer. It was all crab meat and very delicious. Our grandson loved it. My wife ordered the burger being a non fish person. I had the red snapper and rice. My daughter had the steak sandwich. We came to Whitney's for dinner, after visiting last year we expected the same great service and food. Unfortunately, we didn't get either. We stood at the door for almost 5 min before anyone said anything to us, a staff member was directly in front of us at the bar. We went to find a seat and the tables had mounds of food under them on the floor from previous customers that was not cleaned. We got a table and had to get a chair to meet our needs. We sat and waited for anyone to come over and say hello or give us menus. I ordered the LBK bowl which was fantastic the year before, this time it looked like I got the scrapes from whatever was leftover. The pictures below show the difference. Last weekend, we decided to try out a new spot down in Longboat Key, Whitney's. This is a really cool looking spot that used to be an old gas station on the island. They remodeled it and it is like an open air garden cafe kind of setup that worked well after getting off the boat or leaving the beach. We were all craving a margarita, so we ordered a large spicy margarita to share. I started my meal with a side salad and decided to have a burger for my main meal. I requested medium rare, but was told they only serve them pink or fully cooked. I requested pink. Our server returned with our margarita, but it wasn't spicy. I think he forgot how we ordered it even after he asked us a second time what we ordered. My salad came out and it looked rough. Some of the lettuce was brown like it was leftover from yesterday. The drink and the appetizer were a bit of a miss. Then my burger arrived. It looked great. I bit into it, and it was well done rather than pink as requested. The burger was very flavorful, but would have been even better if cooked as ordered. Overall, we had mixed feelings about the spot. The service was friendly throughout our visit, but every item I ordered had it's own issues. This spot has a lot of potential if they could address the issues we had with our food. We will likely give it another shot in the future. It really is a nice location and perfect for a stop on the way home from the beach. read more

Chicken sandwich was just a basic chicken sandwich, would have been great if the chicken was not so tough. It was overcooked. The steak sandwich was just ok, and we asked for extra sauce which made it taste slightly better. The steak was ordered medium but came out well-done The worst part was the service. We waited and waited for our server to refill our water and request the sauce. After about 30 mins another table behind us was chasing after the waiter as well because he was not giving them their check. We finally just went to the bar to ask for water and get the sauce which we got right away. Our waiter was working very hard I never saw him stop once, I actually felt bad for him, perhaps there needs to be extra staff to be able to handle larger crowds. Came here just for the frozen frose` and the fire pit. My girlfriend and her friend loves this place. They rave about the frose, so it was a must when I was meeting her friend for the first time. We literally drove all the way out here just to grab this drink and talk by the fire before dinner. Let me tell you, this drink is DELICIOUS. I can ONLY rate this place based on that one drink. That's why it gets 4 out of 5. That's how good the drink is.
