Curry Tofu With Onions

Haven't been here in a long time so I decided to try them again. This place is mostly average but there's a few things on their menu that they really get right. For some reason, their curry sauce is very good, plus they're the only Chinese takeout in town that officially has curry tofu on the menu. If you like Chinese curry dishes then you need to try this place. The vegetable fried rice was good and had a nice oniony flavor but the portion size was kinda small. Still, this is a decent place, especially for curry lovers.

Will definitely come back the next time I see a concert here! The food was inexpensive but also great. The staff were so nice! The dumplings were especially good. Not much room to eat so definitely a take out location.

There's a funny thread on Yelp's New York Talk page titled "Tell me a first world problem you've dealt with recently.." Some of the responses deal with cracked iPhones, faulty DVRs, crummy internet service, one-ply toilet paper, disappointing soft drink choices, and McD's lack of onion rings. This topic comes to mind because I was driving home from a series of late afternoon and early evening meetings in Milford when I got hungry. I really didn't want to spend time by stopping at a restaurant, because I had work to do once I got home, but the thought of hitting the drive-up window at some fast food joint was very unappealing. By the time I hit Hamden, the hunger pangs forced my hand. I used to work in Hamden a long time ago and I remembered a Chinese take-out joint on Whitney Avenue not too far from the Merritt Parkway exit, so I headed in that direction.. Cool! It was still there! I needed to order something that I could eat in the car while driving, so things like soup and lo mein were non-starters. I settled on an order of Boneless Pork Ribs and Steamed Dumplings -I think it was like $11 or $12. The Boneless Ribs were absolutely great. They were very lean (no fat or gristle) very tender and very flavorful. The dumplings were quite large and the filling was very good, but maybe the outsides were a little too thick and doughy. Whitney Garden is your typical Chinese take-out establishment with a ton of choices and fast counter service, They sure solved my First World Problem.

"Chicken"

The most disgusting chicken I have ever had in my life. Completely inedible. A soggy, fatty, tasteless, mess. I am not exaggerating when I say I could not even eat one bite. Do not go here

As a previous review stated, good food at reasonable prices. They also give you a 2-liter soda with a family-sized order.

I've been ordering here for years. It is close by work and the service is always good. People have…read morestated it changes over the years but in my opinion it is still good. The food is always good and I like their sesame chicken the best! The sauce they use for the sesame chicken is always good, it's not too sweet. There is no more seating I the restaurant since Covid. But the place seems clean. I like that they have a table set up for all the sauces that is needed. Some Chinese places either give you too little sauces or too much. I love picking up and bringing it to the park near by.

I could not believe the size of the portion. I always finish my meal, and this was the first time I was too full to finish. The chicken, and pork fried rice with broccoli was delicious. Here is why I didn't give them a five star rating. When I walked in at their one and only table that they have, was I women, a teenage boy, and girl. The girl got up from the table, took my order, and said it would ready in 10 minutes. As I was a waiting for my order I notice there was no one in the kitchen cooking. After about four minutes the women at the table playing with her phone decided to get up, and start my order. It would have been nice if the customer came before playing on her phone, and they left their one and only table open for a customer to use.

I was so pleasantly surprised from our first visit at Sakana that I had to make a return trip later…read morethe same week. It was a humble reminder that you don't need to go to a culinary destination to find good food. Cheshire Connecticut may not be known for its food scene, however, I found Sakana was a genuine diamond in the rough. My expectations were admittedly low going in. My level of skepticism is always high when I see the "Asian Bistro" moniker, as it is frequently used for restaurants to try to appeal to the masses at the expense of quality by having a "jack-of-all-trades" menu that lacks the technical intricacies and mastery required for specific dishes. Additionally, these establishments tend to follow a "cookie-cutter" menu and offer the same boring dishes you can find at every other Asian Bistro. Even when initially walking towards the restaurant, I had my doubts. The exterior of Sakana honestly looked more like a clinic than a restaurant. Once I saw the menu however, my skepticism shifted towards optimism. For a local bistro, they feature a surprisingly extensive wine and cocktail menu, including premium sake options. I was particularly impressed to find toro on the menu; although it's undoubtedly becoming more of a trend in Connecticut, I was nevertheless happy to see it offered at Sakana as well. Overall I liked their sushi selections and everything I ordered was well-prepared and tasted fresh. We ordered a chicken and broccoli for our daughter and found the chicken tender and broccoli perfectly cooked. That may not sound impressive to those reading, but you'll be surprised how many restaurants fail to execute this baseline dish correctly. The service, although pleasant, was probably the only "weak link" of our experiences here. The quality of service was noticeably inconsistent between our two visits, and they would benefit vastly from having a more reliable and experienced front-of-house team to match the execution coming from the kitchen and sushi bar. Despite this minor gripe, Sakana was a standout. As long as I'm in the area, they will definitely be among the top of my list of places to eat!

So friendly. Is the food exceptional? To me no, but my parents enjoy it. Tonight we started with crab rangoons. Pretty good. Sauce on the side not very exciting. A chili sauce would be better. I got a sushi roll with White tuna inside and cooked shrimp on top and wasabi mayo. I forget the name of the roll but it was better than the two times I've ordered takeout. Miso soup was also good. Their soup bowls are in the shape of a heart which is super cute. Dad got some sort of a mixed protein dish with brown sauce (had shrimp, chicken and beef). Mom got the chicken and garlic sauce. They both got fried rice on the side. I tried it and it was very bland. Dad also got a salad with his meal and the ginger dressing was not very good. Red coloring to it. Usually ginger dressing is more on the orange side. Dad also got the Malaysian chicken coconut soup to start and it could use a bit more flavor. Was a bit watery. Mom loved her sweet and sour soup. Nice that this place is 5 minutes away. Cheshire needs more restaurants. Def not my fav restaurant in town though. Food to me is just ok.
