My Cocoons were lost when I totaled my car in an accident in October. As I was home bound to recuperate from the accident, then extended by hand surgery, the last thing on my mind was protecting my eyes from the sun. Heck, I wasn't going outside for weeks. Well, now, though my thumb is still encased in an orthosis and heavily bandaged, I was given the OK to drive which meant it was time tor replace the Cocoons. If you are not familiar with Cocoons, they are nonprescription fit-over sunglasses. I love them and have been wearing them for years. They come in a variety of shapes to cover most popular frames. I looked on line and called that big sunglass store on Houston Northcutt which only had 3 pairs in stock ... all size large. Nope! They actually suggested that I check out Whitlock Opticians on W. Coleman Blvd. I've passed this business a bizzilion times and if you blink, you'll miss it. It's a few businesses down the street from Royall Ace Hardware in a standalone structure. There's a small parking lot ... and a sign requesting masks before entry. This is a family owned business and one of the daughters quickly approached me. Yes, they had a selection of Cocoons but only two pairs in a small size. Well, both looked great on my small face. II went with my go-to, black, as it blocks the sun and provides great coverage when driving. She was friendly and helpful ... I wish I remembered her name. The store is filled with sun and well stocked with high end (expensive) fashion eyewear. I'm sorry I did not post this earlier in the day. I liked the decor and friendliness of Whitlock Opticians and Daughters from the reviews, especially the Kid's Corner. My nephew's eyeglass lens popped out and we could not find it for a day and a half, but I finally found it this morning. I looked here on Yelp, and my father and I took him here. Not only did they fix the lens back in place, my father said he wasn't charged, and I bless you all and thank you very much. Your kindness and professionalism will not go forgotten. The tiny magnet on my glasses lens came out so I was unable to use the magnetized sunglasses. While traveling through Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, we stopped in to see if the magnet could be glued back in. Yes!Mr Whitlock had the tools necessary and was able to ! Looking around the office while waiting on the repair, I notice there was a fabulous array of frames, very chic, stylish and different! The decor inside is also very tropical which give it very nice vibe. I live in tropical south Florida and if I could, I would pick up this shop and relocate it to my area!! These guys are the best. I stopped in their shop at my father's recommendation to see if they could repair the earpiece covers on an ancient pair of Ray Bans. Not only did they fix these vintage glasses seamlessly, but there was no charge. That is the old school way Mt. Pleasant used to do things. I will now be doing all of my optical business with them. Highly Recommend Whitlock Opticians & Daughters! We are on Isle of Palms visiting for two months (February and March). Last week, the nose piece on my glasses snapped in two. Realized I forgot to bring a backup pair and was pretty much unable to read or drive without the prescription glasses. We cold-called Whitlock Opticians and Mac Whitlock said to come right over. He replaced the entire nose piece with a spare one he had in the back room, and then said "no charge"! His kind and thoughtful approach to my vision problem was so much appreciated. My new dark glasses frame screw broke and I couldn't remove the broken screw. I visited Whitlock opticians on Coleman Blvd in Mt Pleasant. First time in this store. Very nice optician helped me out. Screw couldn't be removed so he tried drilling out the screw and was successful. He replaced the screw with a small bolt and I was back in business in a matter of minutes! Without his skill and the right tools I would have been buying new glasses. THEN he wouldn't let me pay him for his service saying we don't charge for this type of thing. During my brief wait in the store I looked around the shop which is nicely decorated with a Jimmy Buffet decor and lots of variety in frames. Not the sterile environment most opticians operate in. Give this shop a look if you need service or new frames. read more

I have been to many places in the Mount Pleasant area to get eyeglasses that fit my petite face. I found a pair elsewhere but could not order them as they were out. I went to Whitlock, who ordered the frames immediately at a great price. Then, they were able to get the lenses exactly right. I returned for an adjustment and the woman noticed that the lenses were scratched (I did not see this). She knew that the glasses were still under warranty and insisted on ordering new lenses. She fitted the new lenses and did it perfectly. This place is the best. read more

Mac Whitlock lines your frames up perfectly so that you're looking through the exact right spot. I'd had had my eyes examined elsewhere and went to Whitlock to order glasses. Whitlock carries the top-of-the-line THIN CRISP vision lenses ~the good stuff. If you want THE BEST LENSES OUT THERE, this is the place. It's not more expensive; it's just better. They also have an excellent selection of reasonably priced designer frames. I particularly liked a clear frame that was like the one worn by Hank's agent in Californication. Awesome. Very cool. I am a difficult exam because I'm in the neighborhood of: -11 / -12. I'm 'blind.' Well, I order the high definition lenses and when my glasses come back, I can't see. The prescription from the other place was wrong. Now, another optician might have told me that I was SOL because it was not their fault. NOT WHITLOCK! Dr. KELLY SINGLETON did my exam over for me for free! Dr. Kelly spent extra time with me to perfect my exam until she absolutely nailed it! When I got my replacement glasses, I could see perfectly. I could read effortlessly. With garden variety prescriptions, I had to perch my glasses on the tip of my nose to read. Not with her's. Dr. Kelly Singleton was the first doctor in years to get my exam prescription absolutely dead-on-balls accurate. Crisp! Clear! Whitlock's staff could not have done a better job of making me feel like I was important and that they were going to do everything they could to make sure my vision needs were met. This company is wonderful. We had searched everywhere, Duke, Chapel Hill, Wilmington , Charlotte and Charleston to find someone that knew the product of crutches for glasses for our son. These are special wires that are fitted to glasses to raise the eyelid without having to have surgery. Simply amazing !! Can't even see them and the eyelids are lifted. After months of searching on our own and with other doctors help we located Mr. Whitlock. He knew exactly what the doctors were talking about and was so helpful and knowledgeable. After driving from N. Myrtle Beach to Mt Pleasant to first talk with Mr. Whitlock, I was amazed at the selection of frames that this company has. Beautiful and unusual stylish frames for men and women. Just picked up glasses for our son and he was fitted with the crutches on the glasses and it was perfect.
