I've gone to them since 2018. Even wrote a 5 star review in 2022. Over the past 2 years the quality of service has gone down each year. This year is the final year. They used to greet you and get your thought the process in a friendly many, now they barely look at you, don't appear to have any historical records, and just speed through to get you out. Literally, the front desk person never looked at me while checking me in or out. Plus, the computer is angled so I could see her communication with another patient and that person's info. They're not properly stocked to do full contact exams (3rd year in a row). Now, they only have one contact specialist that has a very limited schedule at a location that is not central to Summerville at all unless you're in Carnes or Cane Bay. Again, 5 stars from 2018-2022, and it just continues to go down each year since. The cost of the service for the boutique experience used to make sense, but now there are too many options in Summerville. read more

I've been going here for years! Seems to have the latest tech advances plus the old school tests so you get a thorough exam. Very helpful and friendly staff. Never felt.like they were being pushy on selling lenses or frames.Will definitely continue to go here for.exams and glasses. read more

I called two weeks ago to check on the status of my daughter's glasses. I was told the Optometrist would call the laboratory and call me back. I didn't hear anything. I called Thursday 7/20/2023 3 times and waited on hold for 10 minutes- no answer no live person picked up nothing- all day. I emailed and am still waiting on a reply. I had Friday 7/21/23 off so I went directly to the Trolley Rd Office and was told the phones are down and they would reach out to the lab and let me know. It is 7/24/23 Monday, I have called and again, noone is picking up and I still haven't received the email response. After, we get her glasses, this is the last time we will go to Ocean Eye. read more

Very very satisfied with our experience. Having a child with autism, it's often very hard to find doctors that are patient and understanding. Dr. Spearing was great! Super down to earth and she made our son feel comfortable. I do love that the staff tried everything to make him feel at ease. Small but nice selection of children's frames. I can definitely tell they are of higher quality so the prices seemed fair to me. Will def return for myself soon. read more

Ocean Eye is the Best! Katelyn (optician) is awesome. Very attentive and precise. The doctors here are very good at what they do and the staff is so friendly. Each of their offices are very clean and modern, with an Aloha twist. I wish all doctors offices I go to had waiting rooms with couches as soft as they have at Ocean Eye! TOP NOTCH BUSINESS. I used to enjoy Ocean Eye as it is close to home, the staff friendly and the facilities are top notch. Recently I attempted to schedule an appointment for myself and my daughter for her first vision appointment. First, the person on the phone stated my benefits did not become effective for another 3 weeks, which was blatantly false, but I still agreed to an appointment as I know it is sometimes difficult to get a timely appointment. After a couple of days, I received a call asking me to reschedule to an earlier time on the same day. While this was inconvenient for me due to school times, I agreed to the time change. After another couple of days passed, I received another call from Ocean Eye asking me to move the appointments another two hours earlier. At this point, I brought up the fact this was the second time they asked me to change the time, and of course the woman on the phone showed no record of this. Since they didn't seem to care about my time, I simply told her to please cancel my appointments and I'd seek my vision needs elsewhere. For their sake I hope they get their act together and treating their patients right, but I'll be moving on to another eye doctor. read more

The staff greats you upon entering "Aloha", which all ways throws me off, but I get it. They are friendly and helpful. I appreciate the doctors and their professional manner with me personally and my older children. On one occasion they were able to fix my husband's glasses on the spot and another had to send them off for repair. Both times were handled as promised. They have a wonderful assortment of eye glasses to choose from and are helpful as I chose mine. It is nice to have a neighborhood eye doctor. read more

I made an appointment with them. It was easy and painless. Went to my appointment saw the assistant in the room. She did all the normal testing and help me pick out contacts. Doctor came in and did the eye exam and go over my contacts. After all of that he gave me a trial pair and told me that I can keep them until my contacts came in within the week and they will call me once received. I go to the counter to pay. The receptionist stated that it will be $10 copay and $85 for my contacts. Fast forward almost 3 weeks later I called them today about my contacts coming in. They told me my prescription is not finalized and that I only paid for my copay and the contact exam. Thing is I only ever pay $10 every time I go to the eye doc for any exam. They are refusing to finalize my prescription because they are saying I never paid for my contacts. I paid for them 100% and even the receptionist told me so. I don't know what is going on with this office but I would not recommend them. read more

I have been a patient at Ocean Eye Optometry 2009 or 2010 and over those 10 years of eye exams with related contacts and glasses I can't recall one negative interaction in person, by phone or electronic communication! Made an appointment for my child first thing Monday morning. The staff is very kind, office is clean, and the doctor we saw was very good with my child. That's where the positives stop. This was the worst experience in an optometrist office I've ever had. I have been in glasses and contacts my entire life so I have a some experience. They REQUIRE your eyes to be dilated for a more comprehensive exam. I completely agree. I informed the receptionist that my kid was going to school after the appointment and would not be able to see at school with the standard dilation. But, if you pay an additional $35, they can take pictures of the back of your eyes with no side effects. $35? Really? Instead of priding yourself on providing the most beneficial, comfortable experience for your patients, you charge them MORE money? I have been to other offices that had the same technology (and more) that was complementary. I paid the money, but was still confused. My daughters vision changed very slightly. I just wanted to change out the lenses in my daughters glasses because she loves her frames. After speaking to the staff member in their fitting department, I find out that you can spend well over $200 for their standard lenses, over $300 for their more superior lenses, or buy the lenses and a new pair of frames totaling out to around $450. I've never spent that much on glasses and contacts combined!!! So, I ask if I can just have her prescription so I can find something a little more cost effective. I was informed that I can have her prescription, but it will be incomplete. See, in order to get lenses from someplace else, they need another measurement that's not included in the prescription they provide. But, for another $25, they will take that measurement for you. (Btw, this measurement took all of 30 seconds to take. Wasn't time consuming) What?? Isn't that why I'm there in the first place?? It would be like me going to see my medical doctor and getting a medication prescription. But, if you want me to include the directions on how to take it, that'll be another $25. I paid the $25 and got the hell out of there before I was charged to sit in a chair or breathe their oxygen. Needless to say, I got their version of the more superior lenses with the warranty for $70 at a different location. This place is just a greedy money pit. Please please go anywhere else. They claim that they care about their patients. What they don't say is that they care only if you have tons of money to drop. Never, ever Update: if you go to a optometry office in a retail chain store, they will measure the pupillary distance for free. I shared my story with another optometrist and he was in disbelief that someone would charge these outrages prices. read more

I was given the wrong prescription, had glasses made elsewhere trusting Ocean Eye, glasses were unusable. Had eyes "rechecked" and script changed. Told there was nothing they could do about glasses made to the wrong script that they provided me. Will never go back. read more

I went back today to have an adjustment done on my sons frames and the optician was very polite and fixed the glasses nicely. My first visit went fine. Bit after that it's been an entirely downhill experience with this company. First they refused to have the bifocal part of the lens moved to where I wanted it to be because it's a non standard placement (lower on the lens and to the middle of each lens) despite having always had this done by other providers. Then my glasses came in without the transitions lenses or anti reflective coatings. So I was forced to wait an additional 2 weeks for the lenses to be replaced. I was then shuffled off to another doctor because they were unable to do the testing required for glaucoma. Today broke the camel's back. I called because the specialist THEY referred me to gave me updated lens prescriptions but because of the specialty (strabismus), they did not do the pupilary distance. So I called them this morning to get my pupilary distance measurement and they refused to tell me. Stating that it was an "in house measurement and not part of [my] prescription", even though glasses cannot be made without that number. These people do not care about their patients eye health. They care about their bottom line and making their money by forcing you to only buy glasses from them. So I contacted my old ophthalmologist from several years ago...and guess what...even after not being an active patient of theirs for several years due to moving out of state, they happily provided me with that number. These people care nothing for their patients. read more

The staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very relaxing. (It's a bonus if you like island/reggae music). The assistants and the doctors ensure all of your questions are answered. There selection of frames is good, not great. That is the only reason for 4 stars, not 5. I like that they offer discounts on a year's supply of contacts. They offer pediatric eye care on Fridays and they are awesome with kids. They get a treat at the end. read more

A sincere and warm receptionist asked me if I wanted anything to drink while waiting, I was called back right on time. I made an appointment to compare OceanEye to my current optometrist and I was disappointed. First, the receptionist politely disagreed with me when I presented my insurance card asking if I was certain vision was covered as it wasn't printed on the card. As I've had the same insurance for nearly 10 years, I was (am) 100% certain it's covered; "ok, I'll make a copy of it and I guess we'll see"; yeah, I'm an idiot because as a grown adult, I'm not sure what's covered and what isn't. Then, as I chose not to have dilation or pay extra for the other service they refused to see me. I very much appreciate the fact that the doctor wants to provide a thorough eye exam but as I'm not at risk nor do I have a history or concerns over glaucoma or retinal issues, as a patient, I should have the option to skip that part of the exam; nope, apparently it's all or nothing. If this had been a positive experience, my wife and our two kids probably would have moved all four prescriptions over here, but now not only have you lost that business but you've also acquired negative reflections. IF someone had said, "I understand your concerns and as we can't perform the entire exam, as a physician, I can't sign-off that your eyes are completely healthy and I need you to understand those consequences".. I would have accepted that, but since you chose to provide no service, I will never be back. read more

Stay away! There are major problems with how this practice is run. It was O.K. when we first moved here several years ago, but not anymore. It has gotten so large that the doctors don't even know about the problems that exist. When looking for an eyecare provider/practice, run in the opposite direction from this place. read more

I certainly didn't get offered anything to drink. The young lady that helped me order was super sweet and helpful. But from there it was a train wreck! They quoted 2.5-3 weeks and it was 4! Because they didn't come back in time, I had to go out of town without them. Making it 6 weeks before I got my glasses. They are not open on Saturdays which is inconvenient and I didn't notice that at first. The lens on one of my sunglasses seems too short, leaving a noticeable "gap". Their explanation was that the lens was thicker for that eye but I can actually push it in and it's not. It's too short. When I went to pick up my eyeglasses they came out and handed me a bag with them. I said, "well, aren't you going to "adjust" them. She said, "I can if you need me to". I said, "well maybe just a little, I don't want them to slide off my nose when I get sweaty". You know what else I feel like is strange? When they ordered my glasses, they measured my eyeball or something but usually the technician "marks" spots on the lens and asks me to look up and down and marks where I read and where my eyes are when I do read. This may be why I feel like I have to adjust myself too much to see. I don't know but I am terribly disappointed with this whole process and every complaint has an explanation. I wish I had gone elsewhere. read more
