I explained to front staff,, Katie that my insurance said it was covered; she just kept going back and forth with me answering no. If my insurance tells me one thing and you're telling me another, you should have a better explanation. Also opthalmologist, Dr Coker, insisted on my wearing certain contacts. I have been wearing contacts for many years and find it disturbing that she told me she would rather me wear a certain brand. Maybe they get kickbacks for selling certain brands? I felt like I was being nickle and dimed and being told what to do with my money. FYI- All other reviews appear to be for a different doctor, Dr Bodkin. I was not given an option of doctors. This however is the same business, same office pictures, same address and telephone number.

Checked in and had all my eye measurements taken by a lovely lady who enjoys Chick-fil-A, tell her I went to Mozzo and ordered too much! Anyway, Dr. Schaeffer then came to discuss options, measure again, and put some trial contacts in my eyes to see what I would see. She was kind, honest, and obviously knew what she was doing. I talked to a delightful redheaded lady in financing and she told me everything. I had good options so left with my head buzzing, able to see around me without glasses for the first time in years. I was so excited. I came back after a few days to bad news. Lasik is not an option. I have to wait to get cataracts and then get new lenses during that surgery. But Dr Schaeffer gave me a glasses prescription and contacts prescription and everyone was just so kind. I was a bit heartbroken. But they're now my new optometrist. Everything comes around. I came to see the doctor a few months ago with pain in my eye as I thought something was trapped under my lid. The male doctor dismissed my pain and didn't even do a lid flip to check if anything was stuck underneath....all he did was prescribe $150 eye drops (he didn't mention the cost). I still had excruciating pain several days later and decided to go to another doctor...this doctor was SHOCKED that the low country eye care doctor didn't perform a lid flip and guess what...he found something underneath my lid that he removed. It's amazing what happens when a doctor ACTUALLY performs their job. The second issue I had was with my prescription lenses. I was told they arrived and to come to the office, when I arrived they mistakingly ordered or were sent sunglasses lenses and not clear regular lenses. After another week they called to say my correct lenses arrived. So I went to the office again and this time the lenses were clear but they were very thick and gave a fishbowl effect. I mentioned this to the staff and they said if I still felt that way after a few days to call them again....well the glasses didn't magically fix themself... I ended up ordering a pair from another provider and they were perfect. Clearly the provider they use for lenses is incompetent and unreliable. I will also mention that the front desk staff is typically unpleasant, adding to my overall review score. I do not recommend this location or provider for any service.

At my one day check up my vision was where I could see 4 more lines on the chart than 6 months ago. I will have my second eye done in 2 weeks. The colors are clearer and I can see that the light in the room is brighter. I am very grateful. His entire team at the office and surgery center eased my anxiety and were excellent. I was a skeptic but now I am so glad I did it. I look forward to enjoy driving again and feel more confident.
