While I believe this should be illegal as it is in other states South Carolina does not require it for a prescription even though it is needed to obtain an accurate prescription. Plus if you use a card they charge a fee, this place tries to nickel and dime you.

They do charge an additional fee for a new kind of retinal scan (I forget if it was $35 or $65 - I want to say $65), or you can do the old school dilating drops for free (but you'll have to wear those funny sunglasses for a couple hours). Let me start by saying we've moved 5 times in 6 years and this is THE BEST optical team experience I've had EVER. Super friendly, courteous and professional - MacKenzie checked me in - awesome. The optical assistants, Meagan & Autumn - professional, fast, answered all my questions. Dr. Spearing - amazing. They set me up with bifocal soft contact lenses that day (previous 2 medical professionals told me I couldn't wear them) which are a game changer. And at check out (2 separate stations for in and out - so organized!) there was Joy (and she is!). The office is adorable with the tropical theme and a big assortment of eyeglass frames. It was welcoming, super organized, clean with a fun vibe. And they have the latest equipment technology. Super thorough. What else could you ask for? I hope we get to stay in SC for awhile - either that or I'll have to return from wherever we are for eye exams. You will not regret making this team your go-to for all things eye! This location is probably my new favorite location!!! Jeana originally worked with me at the Trolley Road location, but I was unable to select a pair of frames that I would be pleased with. She suggested that I visit the Carnes Crossroads location and gave me the date that she would be working there. She assisted me with selecting a new cute pair of Cole Haan's and helped me with getting an old pair of lenses repaired. Annette who works at the front desk is super friendly and provides excellent customer service. LOVE THIS PLACE! I set an appointment at the. cranes crossing location and As soon as I came in I didn't have to wait. The ENTIRE staff is amazing and very attentive. They answered all my questions and was very informative about pricing and what I needed to help me see better. From the moment I came in Joy greeted with kindness, Madison was at the desk ready to get started with my appointment, Dr. Palmer was there within 10 mins or less after dilation and Rachel even assisted me with picking out frames! I was looking for a new eye doctor since mine had recently retired. I was able to get an appointment at Ocean Eye at Carnes Crossroads within a few days of calling. I saw Dr. Willingham who was very personable. After a thorough exam of my eyes, we discussed my condition and he took time to answer all my questions. The entire office staff were friendly and accommodating. Several of them even helped me pick out my new glasses. It was a little challenging finding the location, mainly due to Google wanting to reroute me. Once I arrived, I felt immediately welcome. The front receptionist was friendly and eager to get me into the system. I didn't wait long, which was surprising since I was early. The experience was one of the best experiences I've had.
