I came to see the doctor a few months ago with pain in my eye as I thought something was trapped under my lid. The male doctor dismissed my pain and didn't even do a lid flip to check if anything was stuck underneath....all he did was prescribe $150 eye drops (he didn't mention the cost). I still had excruciating pain several days later and decided to go to another doctor...this doctor was SHOCKED that the low country eye care doctor didn't perform a lid flip and guess what...he found something underneath my lid that he removed. It's amazing what happens when a doctor ACTUALLY performs their job. The second issue I had was with my prescription lenses. I was told they arrived and to come to the office, when I arrived they mistakingly ordered or were sent sunglasses lenses and not clear regular lenses. After another week they called to say my correct lenses arrived. So I went to the office again and this time the lenses were clear but they were very thick and gave a fishbowl effect. I mentioned this to the staff and they said if I still felt that way after a few days to call them again....well the glasses didn't magically fix themself... I ended up ordering a pair from another provider and they were perfect. Clearly the provider they use for lenses is incompetent and unreliable. I will also mention that the front desk staff is typically unpleasant, adding to my overall review score. I do not recommend this location or provider for any service.

I felt they did an excellent job all around, also. Everyone was very friendly and Dr McCormack took her time and was thorough. I would have liked to have had more glasses options but still was able to find exactly what I wanted. I will probably continue coming here even though I live in West Ashley the friendliness is worth it. Period.

We haven't developed a relationship with any ophthamologists here. While shopping at Whole Foods on Savannah Highway, we noticed a small center nearby - mostly medical offices. One was Low Country Eye Care, so we walked over to ask about removing my eyelash. Today, Dr. Sanjana Vitta did the job in minutes! With a smile! She was charming, efficient & a sweetheart. The rest of the staff is the same. The office itself is clean and well-designed. The entire experience was beyond our expectations!

I was greeted quickly and as soon as someone was available assisted to find quite a few pairs of frames that I liked. She was very helpful with assisting me with what styles and colors would look good with my face and coloring and I actually found about 3-4 good fits to choose from. I may even go back at a later date to get a prescription pair of sunglasses. I certainly will give them my business when I am in need of a new prescription too.

Beware, and fair warning…read more I paid $445.02 out of pocket (no insurance) for an eye exam, contact lens fitting, and glasses. More than two months later, I have neither working contacts nor working glasses. My comprehensive exam on July 21 was performed almost entirely by a technician who introduced herself to me as an intern. She did all of the testing, including the refraction that determines your prescription. The practice's website describes her role as pre-testing, special testing, contact lens ordering, and assisting the doctor. What I experienced was her running the entire exam. The doctor came in at the end for a short visit, briefly explained one finding, and prescribed a medicated drop. He never asked about my goals, never asked what I do for work, and never discussed the images of my eyes that were sitting right there on the screen. For a self-pay comprehensive exam, I expected far more of the doctor's time and attention than what felt like a brush-off. Everything built on that foundation went wrong. Over the following weeks I was given three different trial pairs of contacts. Two of the three were the wrong type of lens entirely: the first had no astigmatism correction, and the second had no multifocal correction at all, which was the whole reason I came in. The third pair was finally the right category, but still not the right prescription. At one point I received a text that a trial pair was ready, went in to pick it up, and it wasn't there. It felt like nobody in the office was communicating about what had already been tried. The glasses were no better. Two separate sets of lenses, both wrong, neither close. They did remake the lenses once at no charge, but the second attempt missed too. Nobody asked what I needed the glasses for or how far my screen sits from my eyes, even though I do detailed graphic design work on a computer all day. I also never received a walkthrough of lens options and what each one costs before ordering. I returned the final set of lenses on September 15 and then sent a letter to Dr. Smouse by USPS Certified Mail with Restricted Delivery (a service meant to limit delivery to the addressee or his authorized agent), requesting a full refund. The delivery record shows it was signed for by a member of the front office staff, not by Dr. Smouse. As of this review, I have heard nothing back, and I have no idea whether he ever saw it. No one has contacted me about a refund, including for the lenses I handed back. Dr. Smouse himself was personable, and I have no quarrel with his knowledge. But I paid for a process that never produced a working result, with very little doctor involvement and poor coordination behind the scenes. I won't be going back, and I'd encourage you to look elsewhere too. If you do book here, ask exactly who will be performing your exam, and get pricing and lens details in writing before you pay. 1. After my eye exam I was given a specific eye test (due to a medication I am taking) by a staff…read moremember. This test took aprox 45-50 min due to the staff member struggling with operating the machine. She said she was "not sure about the machine.". After an hour she still wasn't certain the "machine was working properly". 2.Told me the prescription she had written was good for glasses and contacts. 3.After approx one more hour Dr House told me the prescription written could not be used for both glasses and contacts. He also told me the dosage for a medication I am currently taking was not accurate and he was sending a message to the Dr. Since the eye test and prescription given by the staff member proved to be inaccurate I asked him didn't he think the results could be user error? Regardless Dr House sent the msg anyway. 4.Dr House told me a staff member would call me in one week to let me know my trial pair of contacts were in and I would be scheduled to see him at 1:15 that same day so I would not have to wait (after over 2 hours today) because he wants to have the eye test redone. (Yet, he'd already sent a msg to my doctor? He also wrote me a prescription for glasses and contacts but refused to give me the prescription for contacts because he insisted I come Back to their practice for a trial pair of contacts of which they charge $50 to the patient. 5. I checked out and front office staff said the Dr wants to see me in a year! I told the lady the next appointment he'd told me would be at 1:15 and he would give me the test again that day. 6.A few days later the office manager called to tell me the staff member that assisted me was fired for several different reasons. ??? 7.My appointment was 2/9/26. As of 2/27/26 I have not received any notification about trial contacts or returning for a 1:15 appointment so the eye test could be repeated. 8.This week I saw an ophthalmologist at MUSC who repeated the test and told me other than dry eyes, my eyes are great. No prescription was given due to dry eyes causing vision difficulty. 9.Today I received an insurance notice from PEEBA filed by Eye Center of Charleston for $300+. Also stating the amount billed to insurance was over the limit. 10. This claim filed was for an erroneous test and incomplete appointment as I was refused a contact prescription (which I have received no contact for) as well as the follow up appointment.
