We ate here about 2 weeks ago & loved it! We live in macomb county but drove up here to meet with some family members. We brought our 4 month old daughter & had a group of about 8. Our server was very friendly & did a great job (I wish I could remember her name). I ordered the pulled pork sandwich & my husband had some sort of fish dish (I believe it was blackened cod). He doesn't order fish all that often, but said it's probably the best fish he's had yet! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich & it was really good as well. My only complaint is that the bathroom is really small (only 2 single small stalls) & therefore doesn't have a changing table so I had to change my baby in my car. Okay Whitey's! Tonight we stopped in for a late dinner and we were pleasantly pleased! This was our first time at Whitey's how did we never know about this classic gem! Two in the party had top sirloin and I had the blacked cod in butter sauce! Everyone really enjoyed the meal. We loved the salad bar and also got fired calamari. Man I LOVE a good salad bar and this one doesn't disappoint! All the things, cheese, bacon bits, pea peanut salad, cottage cheese it was so good and I could have made my whole meal out of it! Steak eaters loved baked potatoes and the mushrooms and onions added. Menu has so many choices seafood, steak, sandwiches. Really a nice selection. Mini loaf of bread was also enjoyed. Whiteys is a very popular restaurant for fish. They have been in business for a long time, I've been going there for over 30 years. Their salad bar is always well stocked, the soup choices are of a good variety in the main entrées are very large. They have ample parking making it easy to access the restaurant. They have a drive-through service, although I've never used it, it always has a long line, which to me means people like to use it. The interior of the restaurant has a lot more seating than appears from the outside. I have never had to wait very long to get a table or booth. read more

Nothing less than 5 stars. This place is great, awesome, outstanding, fantastic, delicious, call it whatever you want. It's great. Only my second time here and I'm make it a point to visit here whenever I'm in the area. They have two salad bars that is also very very very very good. One is traditional salad bar with all the toppings you want and the other is like a pasta salad bar with potato salad, pasta salad, noodles, pea salad (this pea salad is delicious), macaroni salad, and coleslaw. This place has hands down the best seafood in the Metro Detroit area. They have so many options I don't have time to go over it all but since I'm on a roll here I can promise you won't be disappointed. The atmosphere is chill too which is what I like. On a trip to Davison, Michigan, with friends, we opted for dinner at Whitey's--a spot we've visited before and a longtime go-to for seafood and its salad bar. It didn't disappoint. The shrimp, fish, and clams were all delicious, and I went for the signature fried cod, which was thick, juicy, and full of flavor. The salad bar had a great selection but the plates were much smaller than they had been in the past and there was no soup after 3:00. Our group of four was seated quickly upon arrival, and our waitress was on point, answering our questions and keeping our drinks topped off. Been by this place a few times and finally made it in. Place has been around since 1955, per the sign on the outside. Definitely a Fish and Chips place but has other things on the menu plus a decent salad bar. We went today for a late lunch and two of us had the fish and chips, which we(the guys)had and it was great. My wife, chose just the salad bar and daughter had a chicken breast covered with beggies and cheese. She has been here before and her favorite. All dinners come with salad bar and choice of a side. Not for lack of time, but for lack of listening. The order was simple. A Bloody Mary, nearly thirteen dollars. It arrived with one shrimp, done right. Credit to the back of the house. But the rest? Tired. The mix had clearly been sitting past its welcome. Aged, watered down, and overly salted. The garnishes said everything you needed to know before the first sip. A lime wedge, browned at the edge. An olive, shriveled and lifeless. A dill pickle spear, sliced thin not for elegance, but to stretch the jar. And the celery. Cut too thin days ahead, stored in water so long it curled like a ribbon. Not crisp. Not intentional. Just prepped for speed, not quality. I watched the server set it down without a glance. No check in. No moment of eye contact to register the lack of enthusiasm across the table. That subtle awareness, the thing that separates a warm front of house from a transactional one, was nowhere to be found. Dinner rolled forward. I learned the salad bar no longer offered soup after a certain hour, yet dinner pricing still took effect after three. Information not shared until it was too late to shift expectations. Then came the oysters. Eight, wild caught, still attached to the shell. Some edges had dried. A few slivers of sharp shell scattered inside. Not glass, but close enough in texture and surprise to warrant a pause. No lemon wedge. No presentation. Just a plate and the unspoken assumption that this was enough. It wasn't. The cost of the meal, the quality, and the service never found alignment. And after the meal, when I brought forward a quiet critique, not a demand, not a scene, I was told simply, next time ask us to remake it. But I didn't eat or drink what I ordered. I didn't enjoy the experience. And no one noticed. No manager. No check in. No care. No senior discount. No military courtesy. Just full price for a forgettable meal, and the sense that the effort stops at the kitchen door. Whitey's is a place people remember for what it used to be. But memories don't season food, and reputation doesn't refill a glass. Somewhere along the line, this place lost its sense of hospitality. Went to whiteys tonight for dinner. My meal was fine blackened and seasoned butter cod. My friend ordered lobster and filet, the filet came out like a hockey puck at a Detroit Red Wings game. Like someone sat it on the grill and forgot about it for 20 mins. The worst part was the lobster. As soon as it hit the table I knew it wasn't right. It looked like mashed potato's in the shell. My friend tried it and said it tasted like the bottom of the ocean. Goods and bads here. I'm told this restaurant is really popular in this area so we were definitely influenced to go by others. Apparently it's been around for ages and is a favorite in the area. We went expecting whitefish (Whiteys???) and several members of my party were disappointed there was no whitefish on the menu. That being said the menu is pretty extensive. And not just for people who want fish either, there are a lot of other options. I went with the fish dinner, which comes with two (or three) pieces of fish in the cooking style of your choice (I chose blackened and buttered) with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were soaking in butter as well so the meal felt pretty heavy but the flavors were good and the fish was flaky and seasoned well. This entree was reasonably priced for what you get. All dinners also come with a salad bar and bread. The bread is the star here, warm baguettes served with some kind of chive butter that's absolutely delightful. The salad bar is decent, nothing stellar, but we all agreed the plates were way too tiny. I feel like this is a comfortable & stable choice for people in the area and that's probably why it's popular. read more

I am in the area a few times a year and always try to make it a point to stop and order takeout. The fish tacos have become a favorite and while I love their other dishes this has become a go to. Service is always quick and friendly. I also love the convenience of the drive through but the tacos they make in the restaurant so it takes a little bit longer. read more

As a retired couple we been eating at whiteys every couple of months, tonight we were surprised at another price raise. Just shy of $21.00 for a 2 piece dinner. What was worse was the salad bar had less on it and the lettus was wilted and brown. When the dinner came the fish was30% smaller, but was still very good. We are regular customers of Whitey's. We arrived at Whitey's two hours before closing time On Saturday, Aug. 16th. We said we would like to sit anywhere, besides in the bar area. We just don't like the noise. There were many tables open throughout the restaurant. The hostess said they were going to close those areas, even though there were people sitting on either side of the open tables. The hostess told us the only place they would seat us, is in the bar area. We stated again that we didn't want to sit in the bar. The hostess just shrugged her shoulders and let us leave. read more

Whitey's is a medium sized restaurant that specializes in seafood. We had their Gator Bites as an appetizer. They were fried to perfection with not too much batter. They tasted very fresh and were served with a house made honey mustard. The Fish sandwich was also perfectly done with two large pieces of fried cod, lettuce and tartar sauce on a toasted bun. It was fantastic! This was our first visit to Whitey's and have now decided to make it a staple stop when we're in the area. **COVID comment: the hostess and all servers were wearing masks and everything looked clean. Love the thousand island dressing. - Great variety of seafood - Usually very large portions if you are looking for that Could do better: - the premade salads at the salad bar are pretty tasteless (macaroni salad, spaghetti salad, etc) - we want more healthier fish options as not everybody can or wants to eat food that has been fried. I ordered the scallop dinner and asked for it broiled - and it was but it felt like it was drowning in tasteless butter. maybe it was not even butter...whatever it was, it had no flavor. A little paprika or pepper would have helped things out. - Prices can be quite high. I know that there are not many seafood restaurants in the area but I'm paying Oakland County prices for a Genesee County dinner. read more

Wonderful Restaurant! Monica was our server and she was very friendly, nice and helpful! She had a nice young man as a trainee with her as well, but sadly I cannot recall his name. For appetizers, we had Crab bombs (good!) and the jalapeno cheese balls (surprisingly awesome!). Our entrees were baked seafood combo, and Cod and Clams. Both of which were very good, beautifully plated and well portioned. The restaurant itself was clean, had an excellent atmosphere and for around 3 pm on a Tuesday, was not busy at all. We did not wait overly long for any of our food. Salad bar is included with entree and is nothing epic, but VERY solid. We went for a fish dinner on Friday evening. The salad bar was so tired it was exhausted and very unkempt, very unkempt. There is no reason to use bagged lettuce. Especially tired bagged lettuce. It's not hard to roughly chop some lettuce in the morning. The alligator appetizer was good. We all ordered the Captain's Choice, can't remember the exact name. My husband and son ordered the fried version, I ordered the blackened cod, and baked scallops and shrimp version. And you get a ton of clam strips that have gone through the flavor extractor before they bring them out. We only ate about 5-6 but found no clam flavor. They pile flavorless clams high on your plate, but give you 2 shrimp and 2 scallops. The blackened cod and the butter baked shrimp and scallops were good. The service was excellent, the ambiance is so so. I'm giving it 5 stars not because it really deserves it, but I give it credit for its longevity. It's not the same food I had 30 years ago when I first came there. It's very sad that the quality has gone down so much. We will not be back for a long time. Lucky's serves much better fish and seafood. read more
