We were dining with our whole family and looking forward to enjoying the meal together. During our visit, my husband--who serves in the military--asked about a military discount. While the restaurant does offer one, it was only applied to the two items he personally ordered, rather than to the family meal as a whole. This felt disappointing and, honestly, a bit disrespectful in its execution. While we understand that businesses can set their own policies, the way this was handled left a bad impression and took away from what was otherwise meant to be a positive family outing. The food itself was decent, but the experience surrounding the discount overshadowed our visit. Given our prior positive experience with the Woodchips, this was not what we expected. We hope management considers how these situations are handled in the future, especially when recognizing military service.

Mistakes happen, but accusing customers of being dishonest instead of simply checking the order properly is frustrating and unnecessary. The coconut shrimp with hashbrowns were a nice big portion, but the coconut shrimp should be served with a jelly grape or plum type sauce versus the red cocktail sauce - hashbrowns were cooked perfect. If I could give zero stars I would. Today I was traveling from IL with my service dog and family. We stopped to see a friend in Lapeer and decides this was the restaurant we'd meet for dinner. We went to walk into the restaurant and was greeted by a very rude man demanding that I show some ID for my service dog. When my friend said shes from out of state he replied too bad no ID I don't know what to tell you. So we left. Even though I know legally I had the right to eat dinner there. I for one was not about to make a scene and stress out over this mans ignorance or the restaurant illegally turning me away. Per the ADA, Americans with disabilities act, the federal governing law I am not required to show anything to "validate" my service dog. You are only allowed to ask, is this a service dog, and what task does the animal perform to mitigate the disability. Just because Michigan has an optional and voluntary program to register the dog through the state to receive an ID still MAKES IT VOLUNTARY. What you did was illegal. Just so you know I did not need any ID or any type of item identifying my dog as a service dog period end of story. You might want to educate your employees. If it was just out of pure ignorance I would have let it slide. But the employee then decided to act rudely and speak to me in a matter that I would not speak to a potential customer. And spoke in an intimidating matter of fact approach. Its disgusting. I know you lost a local customer and I for one will never chose your establishment while traveling through MI again. Learning the ADA federal laws would be good because while I dont plan on communicating with law enforcement what you did was illegal and the next service dog team might not be as forgiving. read more

This review has been a long time coming. Living in the Lansing area and having family in the Port Huron area, we travel by Lapeer quite often. I took my wife and kids to the Apple Tree without any knowledge. We wanted to try something new. Now, we plan our trips to include a stop in Lappeer for this restaurant. The service is excellent. They are courteous, timely, and conscientious. If there has been an oversight (typically minor in nature), they have been quick to rectify the situation. The place has been nearly full every time we go, yet the staff is on top of their jobs. I can't think of a time where I felt like we were left to wait too long. The food has been wonderful each time, as well. I am not referring to a single dish that they do well. Every thing on the menu that we have tried has been delicious. Not just average or fair. Everything has been at least good, most of the time great. All this at prices that equal many less enjoyable places. They could easily charge fine dining prices. It is the best restaurant that I've experienced and one I make a point to frequent as often as possible. read more

The waittresses are great. The owners are okay. The food is above average diner food. They use styrofoam (polystyrene) takeout containers, which have been banned in most of the major cities in the US because putting hot food in them is a known carcinogen. Next time you get takeout, look closely at the inside of your container. Are there spots where it's melted? That's cancer causing chemicals getting in your food! Please ask management to switch to cardboard take-out containers. read more

Pretty good. I went with 4 people and two of us got pitas, which were really good, but maybe a little less lettuce. The portions were generous, the quality was excellent, and the food was well worth the price.
