My friend and I went here for dinner and drinks before a movie and we definitely were not disappointed. The reservation booking process was very easy, we simply reserved our spot a few hours before we arrived on open table. The restaurant is quite intimate. It is a smaller space that is decorated nicely. For the entree I had the short rib gnocchi which was sooo amazing. I would come back just for the gnocchi alone. The meat was super tender and the gnocchi were soft and suited the dish well. Both cocktails that I had were great and they were only $9, which I found quite reasonable. The server has very attentive and checked in on our table an appropriate amount. I hope to come back here again if I am ever in Waterloo. read more

I had heard of White Rabbit before the pandemic hit, and have been very keen to check it out, which I finally got to do last night with my friend. Hip, cool decor, sexy old school glassware, impressive whisky selection. (I want to go back just to browse the bottles!) My friend had two Black Sabbaths, a light, fruity cocktail which hit the perfect balance of tart and sweet. I was extremely impressed with the Foxy Cleopatra, a complex drink featuring the unlikely marriage of the bitterness of Campari with the sweet Soho Lychee. Our bartender/server, Mike, was kind enough to make a drink I requested which he didn't know, an Auld Alliance, without any pretense or grumbling as can sometimes happen with some cocktail bartenders. (They don't like to feel like they're being shown up!) Mike was engaging, informative, and funny as f**k! (Seriously, he had us laughing our arses off!) He also thanked me for adding another great drink to his repertoire. Class move, Mike. For dinner, my friend had the Po Boy (a dish of which she reckons she is an aficionado) and gave it top marks. I had the blackened catfish, a dish I absolutely love and haven't had in years. Again, spot on. The only glaringly incongruous element of the experience was the music. I dig classic rock just as much as the next fella, but the playlist seemed more suited to a Jack Astor's or Boston Pizza than a hip cocktail bar, and came off as pedestrian and somewhat boring in contrast to the elegance of the dishes and drinks. Hearing Journey's abysmal "Don't Stop Believing" twice in one dinner service was, well, annoying. Other than that, it was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we've had in ages. Since waterloo is a pretty small area. Word gets around pretty quickly about must try places, white rabbit being one of them. The first time I tried to take a visit here was a Saturday night around 10PM without a reservation and was told a party of 2 would be around an hour wait. So I decided to come back at a later date with a reservation. From pictures and such, punch bowls and charcuterie boards were must try items, which we got. The punch bowl tasted fine, like juice, with pretty much no alcohol. The charcuterie board (fat rabbit) was large with a variety of what I would consider random things (ie dumplings) and was ok as well. We then each ordered the sandwich of the week (or day), which was the shrimp poboy sandwich, also alright, and was a bit on the dry side. Overall, everything was very overpriced in my opinion. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have encountered and I would strongly recommend you avoid this place. My experience dining here was one where Brooke, the server, made my friend and I feel emotional distress. We were there to celebrate my friend's birthday, and chose White Rabbit as we thought it would be an inviting atmosphere. Brooke, who served us, first made sarcastic remarks stating that we should "take (birthday) photos at home", implying our patronage was unwelcome there. When I went to look for my earring, Brooke loudly remarked that our presence was unwelcome, again. The second we opened the door to leave, Brooke yelled (and made sure we were within earshot) "Thank god!" to her coworker. Keep in mind that we tipped fairly, left promptly before closing hours, and treated the staff with respect and even extra friendliness. Brooke's lack of professionalism is evident in her rudeness to customers. We both presently work in minimum-wage customer service jobs, and have not in our life experienced such blatant rudeness and hostility for being respectful patrons hoping to enjoy our first night out in months. Brooke's comments were grossly inappropriate and disrespectful. Note that when asked, she provided a fake name. This in itself should raise some questions. read more

They are not amazing but wasn't expecting them to be too fresh. 4 Stars because I lost my drivers license and had to use my health card as an ID and they did not accept it. This place was the first time I have experienced the most blatant kind of racism in my 1 decade in North America. The bouncer at the door refused me an entry after I showed him my legitimate Californian driver's license which I have been using for the last 5 years across many locations. When I asked him why that was the case, he just shrugged his shoulders and said "I do not trust it." When I asked him again, he smirked, shrugged his shoulders and responded "I can reject anyone I want." Not a single other bar or club turned me down when I showed them my ID. Absolutely every other manager and bouncer confirmed that it was legitimate ID. Before this, my friend got rejected from the same location after he showed them his Indian passport. None of the bouncers justified why exactly they were rejecting our IDs. They just seemed to use the argument that they could decide anything. They refused to let us even speak to the management. We showed the same IDs to multiple bars and clubs around the same area and absolutely no one expressed any concerns. This was one of my worst experiences in the Western Hemisphere. read more

The whiskey/bourbon tasted watered down 2. Rather than a sugar cube of ice, there was crush ice 3. Rather than a peel of orange skin, it was a slice of orange. The vibe is cool, with the general crowd between the age of 24-35, young working group. The music could be a little too loud at times. The Moonshine punch bowl was AMAZING did not disappoint, and came up to 2 drinks per person between 3 people. Flavour was sweet and the apple and cinnamon flavour completely resembled an apple pie. Ordered 4 mains and 1 app to share. The chicken and waffles was great with juicy meat and fresh flaky batter, would get again. Fish tacos was also on point with the sauces, though small in portion for what you pay. My friends ordered the brisket and Mac and Cheese, both felt the flavour was slightly lacking and felt bland - left a few bites unfinished. Friend cauliflower was very saucy and flavour was ok, but felt a bit greasy because there was a pocket of air between the batter and it's centre. I would recommend this place for drinks with small groups because it's a small venue, crowd was university aged or slightly older, and volume and ambiance was comfortable to chat in. We came back for their ramen special (it was great the first time) and they must have changed their chef or their ingredients have gone downhill. The noodles are soggy and tasted like mush - I never send back food but we did and it still tasted the same. Pork belly was hard to chew, egg was not done at all, and the broth was just salty with no flavour. It was probably the worst ramen I've ever had, and really too bad because they did a wonderful job when they first started serving the special. They do drinks very well here, and the service was great, which were the only pluses :( read more

I completed work (contracting whilst attending school) and went for a shot and a pint. With a total of 5 tables in use I was seated to be the 6th. The servers did not acknowledge my existence for the first five minutes, then as one finally deemed me worthy enough to approach, she decided getting water for another table that had been served was best. I realised that my attire may not allow me to be cool enough to be acknowledged. I left, upset certainly. As I left I had the ability to speak with a server. He explained that there was but two servers and this is what happens. I snapped at this pathetic excuse. Six whole tables and but two people, my restaurant friends have all mocked this. Came here in the summer and had a great experience. Unfortunately, I did not have the experience when I visited yesterday on December 5th at 7:15pm. I was really surprised to see some of my favourite food items from before missing from the menu. Also, the new items seemed very 'experimental' sounding instead of the elevated bistro/pub food that was on the menu in the summer. When I asked the waitress about this, I received a snarky and condescending reply that I "mustn't have been there in a long time"; she seemed offended. When she came to ask how the food was tasting, I had just taken my first bite of the salad and had encountered a large bite of raw pumpkin that I was not expecting. When I asked "is that raw pumpkin?" in surprise, she replied again with attitude, seeming offended. The pumpkin was in large cubes and stringy - I'm pretty open minded about salad but this did not work. A few minutes later I could hear the waitress (who obviously didn't realize she could be heard over the music) saying "God! Does she like anything? So rude - go eat somewhere else if you don't like it" to her male co-worker. I know that servers have to deal with a lot but someone ranting that openly and within clear earshot was pretty shocking. I've sat in a variety of places, all seats are good seats. Place gets really busy on the weekends. I want to try their brunch still- have heard good things. Good wise I've only tried the cheese boards which were excellent. Love the decor. Opening weekend met one of the owners and he was very nice. Sunday's DJ Flash spins old school stuff.
