The Canadian Maritimes: Quintessential White Point As owners of ten timeshare weeks, the university's academic schedule permits numerous opportunities during the calendar year for adventure and exploring. We have visited the Maritime Provinces in Canada on several occasions. Our usual motor route is Ohio to Ontario and then time is allotted to visit London, Waterloo, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces: New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. For this holiday, we opted to fly into Halifax, Nova Scotia for a ten-day visit to the Maritimes. We extended the week's visit to White Point Vacation Club with overnight lodgings in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia prior to our week at White Point Vacation Club in southern Nova Scotia. We returned to our Ohio home for one night, and immediately flew to our Marriott Ocean Pointe resort in Palm Beach. In eighteen days we experienced the beaches of the Maritimes and the Palm Beaches. My initial reaction to the photos was that these condos are "mobile home units" similar to ones that we had visited in Napa Valley. The Napa Valley units were much too small for two adults. However, the White Point Beach Resort condos are actually freestanding modern spacious wooden homes. Each condo is located on nearly an acre of ground. White Point Vacation Club provides seclusion and privacy. White Point Beach Resort condos are very large accommodations; offer a full kitchen, all cooking utensils, two spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, a small dining area, a large family room with a wood burning fireplace, a huge wood deck with furniture, and a gas grill. White Point Vacation Club is a unique facility. Beware of the large bunnies that have been a White Point tradition for decades. The condo units are nestled in a forest setting similar to cabins in a state or national park. White Point Beach Resort resembles an "older" Michigan or New England resort. "Older" may connote romance and ambience. Some readers may recall the secluded lodge in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing. The storyline called for a setting (Kellerman's Resort) in the Catskills, but the actual Dirty Dancing lodge is in Virginia (Mountain Lake Resort in Pembroke, Virginia.) White Point Beach Resort was constructed in 1928 as a private hunting and fishing lodge. White Point Beach Resort initially consisted of a few cabins on the beach, an eight-room main lodge, and a dining room. These buildings remain and are functional today. Expansion has been gradual and continuous through the years. All the original buildings were of split log construction. Modern construction coexists with nearly 75-year-old structures. White Point Beach Resort is Atlantic Canada's very popular year-round, seaside beach vacation destination. The resort features a half mile white sand beach, indoor and outdoor pools, lake, golf, tennis, trails, surfing, recreation programs, a spa, and dining room showcasing Nova Scotia cuisine. White Point Beach Resort is in very high demand with the residents of Halifax who are only ninety minutes north. White Point Beach Resort is also a destination for many Canadians and U.S. citizens. Take Exit 20A, at the intersection of the highway connector and Route 3, turn right (West) on to Route 3 and follow Route 3 (White Point Road) to White Point Beach Resort. Liverpool is the nearest town where chain grocery stores and other small stores and restaurants are located. Liverpool is about ten minutes north of White Point Beach Resort. It seems essential to arrive at White Point Beach Resort during the daylight hours. The driver must be careful of children and bunnies when entering the White Point Beach Resort property. Check-in for the White Point Vacation Club is at the main White Point Beach Resort lodge. The check in process is efficient and without the nuisance of a timeshare sales staff. The White Point Vacation Club is in a forest beyond a small lake, and the drive involves several alternative dirt roads. 5 star. BUT I stayed here a few times in the 1990s. We stayed in the cabins with our cocker. They were old at that time and not 5 star but it WAS interesting. The food at the lodge WAS excellent (again going back to the 90s). We liked the bunnies all over and our doggie was running all around chasing them. we rented a canoe and paddled around with our doggie. We drove up to PEI at the end of our vacation. we had our wedding here and it was one of the worst experience...they repeatedly surcharged everyone for things they did nit receive or ask for. one of our meal options the salmon was severely undercooked and we had to bring it up to the staff several times. They added on all sorts of ridiculous fees that were not in the original contract. One of my guests was charged for an entire bottle of wine when they had asked for a glass. read more

We had a great two day stay in one of the Treehouses (a birthday gift) and loved the experience. Very comfortable large bed/ room with the ocean practically at our doorstep was amazing. Good coffee provided. A lovely meal at the dining room with friendly/efficient service was also a treat. We loved the wild mushroom soup, the cauliflower puree with my salmon and the macha cheesecake, all delicious. Wasn't too crazy about the mussels but they were OK. Although the weather wasn't great I did get to enjoy a hike around all of the White Point properties. Would suggest a larger waste basket for the bathroom and one in the main room but otherwise no complaints. All staff very friendly. read more

"What an absolutely terrible experience. I phoned in a last-minute booking of an oceanfront cottage the night before our long weekend. I received a booking confirmation, which I glanced over... Somewhere in the email is this line: "Government issued photo identification as proof of residence of one of the four Atlantic Provinces will be required upon check in for all reservations." It does NOT say in the confirmation email that ALL members of your party must have gov't issued photo ID. My husband had his NS driver's license, I had my NS health card and various other documentation re. NS residency.... So.. what's the problem you ask? The booking was under my name. And I wasn't the one with the NS photo ID.... they refused to switch the booking to my husband's name and accept us as guests... we were turned away! This was despite ample proof of NS residency and my husband having his NS driver's license. We had packed up our little family, driven across the province, and were turned away. We couldn't even stay for a meal because I didn't have NS government issued ID - just everything else necessary to prove I am a NS resident , including proof of double vaccination. The manager was extremely cold and unapologetic: basically, his view was that we were in the wrong and they had no intention of helping us find solutions. Keep in mind: we are NS residents of long-standing. I don't feel that I was given adequate heads up of their Covid policies which are unique to their hotel and not the government mandated policies. White Point's policies are unclear. Their poor communication and inflexibility created a very long, stressful and disappointing day for myself and my family.. " read more

My family used to love this place. You can't beat the location, the sea or the bunnies. The other items could use much improvements. We were there for a long weekend and every meal we had, we had to wait over an hour and at times up to an hour and a half. This is after having reservations. Nothing like waiting 1.5 hours for the dinner special (prime rib). Half of the plates had brown meat which I believe was caused by the plates sitting under the heat lamps for a long time. No towels were available at the pool so we called to have some brought down. They then came down with a sign that said to call for towels if needed. WTF? So I went to get towels for my family and they gave me one even though I asked for 4. I again asked for 3 more and then they gave me 2 more. WTF again? Then the next time we went to the pool, there was a new sign, no JUMPING in the pool? What is that? I understand no diving but no jumping? That was the last time for me. read more

Some food staff including the manager are surly and make up arbitrary rules, heavy on the gaslighting. For instance they ( the same manager who was called out and ridiculed by the CBC) pretended they Never sing and do the "Happy Birthday " deal, that I literally have decades worth of photos proving otherwise. "Oceana has never been at war with Europa "1984. Of course, there's also plenty of super sweet waitstaff! Rooms are filled with bugs that leave you riddled with bites and make it hard to sleep, due to being bit through the bedding, which they no longer change. Buffet is comparable to pig slop, but items from the menu( which was discontinued for breakfast) are Superb! I would put up with accommodations below Motel 6 quality, but the gaslighting and aggressive condescension from the manager and some of his underlings is beyond insulting. Especially since 2 years back they notified us the day of our arrival that we weren't allowed to come unless all members of our group had a Nova Scotia drivers license and they were keeping our deposit, since we didn't "cancel" in time. Eventually, after many irate phone calls and demands, they reluctantly agreed to put the security deposit towards a future visit, instead of pocketing it. 90% of the staff are pleasant and the kid's activities are delightful. Can do without the powermongering and spur of the moment rules dripping with disdain, though Just checked and apparently their mission statement is "Yes, we can." They have officially become the opposite of themselves. Now it's "No, we can't ". read more

I love coming here, it's like a home away from home. The service from the staff is always above average. We always get the ocean view cottage, with an amazing view and waves always crashing in a thunderous manner over the rocks. The bunnies follow me from the car to the cottage because they know I'm packing carrots. The food is always good. We come mostly in the off season. I love the winter season down here. Especially the mussel bakes on the beach when it is snowing. The staff all call me by name, and that's pretty cool. White Point is a very comfortable place to relax. Like their sign says "Your here...now relax". If you can't relax and enjoy yourself here, you can't relax anywhere. read more

White Point, for me anyway, is damn near the perfect getaway: it's pretty close to the city so you can go up for just a night or two, the oceanfront cottages offer a ton of privacy, there's room to bring a whole crew of your friends for seaside bonfires, it's pet-friendly, there's a full pool and spa, and it's LITERALLY COVERED IN ADORABLE BUNNIES. Yes. Bunnies. You're not even really going to understand just how many bunnies there are until you get there but I promise that when you arrive, you're going to think back to reading this. YOU'RE WELCOME. I've only stayed during the winter which was actually quite charming! Even though we damn near froze walking from our cottage to the main lodge (for the restaurant, pool, etc.), having firewood dropped off at our doorstep was a really nice touch as we all warmed up thanks to our charming fireplace (and booze). read more

White Point Beach Lodge is a great place to escape for a special occasion or a romantic get away. When you first drive up to White Point, the first thing you will notice is dozens of bunny rabbits hopping around the area. The rabbits are somewhat symbolic of the peace, freedom and relaxation that you'll experience during your stay. For accommodations you have the option of staying in the main lodge, or staying in one of it's many cottages. Personally, I always prefer to stay in a cottage, where for an additional price you get your own fireplace, along with much more privacy and isolation. All guests also have access to two heated swimming pools (one indoor and one out), fitness rooms, tennis courts and more. In general, I've found the level of service has declined slightly over the past few years but still greatly enjoy going there. read more

My boyfriend and I came here this summer for our birthdays! It was so great, such friendly staff and knowledgeable about the area. Really great clean and air conditioned rooms! Tons of activities to do. There was a wedding there our first day so it was great lots of people and a great energy, still not crowded though so it was awesome! The ONLY reason I'm not rating a 5 out of 5 is because of the DINNER buffet. The breakfast one was super though. And you can order off the menu for supper if you like. I just found there wasn't a huge selection like there was at breakfast and it wasn't too hot. Again, unlike breakfast. However, everything I ordered off the menu, drinks and food was GREAT! (: our servers name was Madison and she was lovely. The front desk staff are helpful. Really lovely time, we will definitely be back! read more

This review is for the restaurant only. We ate at the White Point Beach Lodge restaurant only, we did not stay at the lodge. I went here recently for lunch with my husband and my father-in-law. Apparently the lodge burned down about a year ago or so and they rebuilt it. I never saw it before the fire, but it looks very nice a cozy now. Everything is brand spanking new and the place is very clean. We all had the lobster club sandwiches ($18) but each ordered a different side (choice of soup, salad or fries). I had the salad which was a real spring mix salad (not just iceberg or romaine). My husband had the soup which was a broccoli, cheddar and beer soup. Sounds weird, and I hate beer, so I didn't try it, but he said it was tasty. My father-in-law had the fries. They looked like normal regular cut fries (not shoestring, but not beefsteak either). The lobster clubs were on whole wheat bread (nice touch, made it feel a little healthier, lol) and had bacon, lettuce and tomato in addition to the lobster which was mixed with mayo (like in lobster rolls). I believe the club only had 2 slices of bread and not 3 (which is ok with me since I should be cutting down on the carbs anyway). The club sandwich was delicious. They were not stingy on the lobster and the bacon had a rich smokey flavour to it. It wasn't listed on the menu but it tasted like there was cheese in the club (like a mozzarella or something) which was yummy. Definitely one of the better lobster sandwiches that I've ever had. Service was great. Very polite and attentive. No complaints here. I ordered salad dressing on the side and that's exactly how they brought it, so I was a happy camper. Apparently this place is known for bunnies. There are signs everywhere that there are thousands of bunnies on their property but driving up I didn't see a single bunny. I was soooo disappointed. I mean it was July, so it's not like it was winter, but it was rainy and foggy so maybe they were all hiding. Oh well... Anyway, I would recommend the food here. Fours stars from me! :) read more

I had the opportunity to visit White Point a couple months ago and completely forgot to review! Some great items to consider: - there are cottages right on the beach - they allow pets (booking surcharge applies) - the cottages have fireplaces AND they replenish the wood daily - there are bunnies - and just about everywhere - they provide the bunny food and the bunnies will come up to you when you feed them - the restaurant is amazing! (If the buffet is available while you are there, it is so great - definitely do it!) - for those who like to control meal costs when traveling (as, let's call it out - meal costs when vacationing easily skyrocket the overall vacation cost), you can buy meal vouchers when booking - there is a kids activity room - there is a pool and sauna - the staff are 98% super happy to be working there (seriously, only found 1 non-smiling employee the entire time) and most spoke highly about the family type atmosphere within the team - great wine selection The drawbacks: - there is a short time span in Atlantic when the ocean water is warm :) - depending on your room/ cottage, you could be quite a way from the main lodge - that is it......it was a great! read more

We chose White Point for our wedding, as it was a great location to get away for the weekend and spend time with our family and friends. The views of the beach are gorgeous, and the new lodge is also beautiful. However, there were many aspects of our experience which we found challenging, and if we had to do it over, we would not choose White Point for a wedding: -the primary issue is that the contact person for wedding coordination was very difficult to work with, and we actually had to hire outside help to coordinate our wedding. For example, she booked my husband and I in a tiny cabin with a single sagging double bed for our wedding weekend, after we had discussed that we needed a large cabin to get ready in with my bridesmaids prior to the ceremony, and that we typically sleep in a larger (king) bed. -they were not upfront about multiple other weddings taking place on the same day and weekend. -they would not allow all of our guests to book rooms, as they had reserved several for other weddings, and many guests could not find a place to stay. -the food at our tasting was excellent, and on the large scale, we were quite disappointed with the taste - much of it was overdone. read more

Poorly managed. Untrained staff. Doesn't live up to all the hype. Do not stay in cabins- they are dirty, old, and water in taps tastes like sea water. We were on our honeymoon and treated poorly. We arrived to find hairs on pillow cases (stained dirty pillows under shams), dirt on floor (including icky dental floss). Called front desk and they sent cleaner to change pillow cases and duvet cover. Didn't clean floor. We had a dinner reservation which was not honoured. Dining room half empty but high-school aged hostesses said "our" table not ready and insisted that we wait 20 minutes or go outside and sit in cold. We refused and insisted they honour our reservation (which they require you to have). After a few minutes of hemming and hawing they miraculously found us a table. Cooks and waitress not interested in helping with food allergies. What I could eat was good, though. Bartenders were great in lounge bar. Next day we returned to cabin from uninspired, expensive buffet breakfast to find it "cleaned". Floss and dirt still on floor. Tea/coffee not replenished. A soaking wet towel on towel bar (we didn't soak it). All 'clean' towels frayed and old. Some stained. Yuck. They sent maintenance guy out to check water quality since we didn't want to brush teeth with it. He drank some, said, "tastes ok to me. I drink it every day. You must be townies". Then he left. We had to go ask for drinkable water. They poured some in a plastic pitcher and handed it to me. We had signed up for golf lesson. Got a call an hour before lesson saying that it was canceled because we were only people who wanted to do it. Guess we didn't matter. I went to front desk and asked to see manager. Joanne was clearly shocked about how we were treated and she did arrange 9 holes of golf for us plus sent bottles of water to the cabin and had them clean it again (floss and dirt still there after! They do not vacuum floors). It was too little too late, tho. We went to Liverpool for dinner and found a lovely Inn (Lane's Privateer Inn). Friendly, helpful wait staff. Had chef cook my meal specially to avoid food allergies. They said that they had heard lots of complaints from people about White Point. None of the famous bunnies there either. Too many dogs everywhere. One brave mouse came up to us on deck, tho. Unless you don't mind paying lots of $ to stay in a poorly managed place that's one step up from tent camping, don't bother. They call themselves a Beach Resort but have no beach towels or chairs (heard others complain about that). Or else stay in lodge which was renovated less than 20 ys ago. Cabins look like they last saw updates 50 ys ago. read more

Came here on a family vacation for the first time and we fell in love instantly. The rooms were nice, so were the cabins. The food for breakfast lunch and dinner was excellent and there was lots of variety. Only thing I noticed is that during some nights they seemed to be understaffed during dinner which slowed service quite a bit. Otherwise the activities and beach front are spectacular and definitely would come here again. read more

Attended White Point for a function, one overnight stay in a cottage along with lunch and dinner, I didn't have time for breakfast, the complimentary coffee was all gone so I had a complimentary cup of tea for the road which was good, several teas on offer. Lunch was ok, the pizza that was on the menu was a little burnt, but was otherwise tasty. Dinner however was lackluster as the beef was very fatty and as I was only offered a butter knife to cut it with I found it nearly impossible to eat politely. I also discovered that, for all the "year of the marshmallow" hoopla there are no fires allowed after 11:00 PM. I don't think I would drive 1.5 hours again for this level of service. Was going to offer 3 stars until I read that meant A-OK It was not "OK" in my reckoning. read more
