My bunny friends that follow me around
    Coleen P.

I love coming here, it's like a home away from home. The service from the staff is always above average. We always get the ocean view cottage, with an amazing view and waves always crashing in a thunderous manner over the rocks. The bunnies follow me from the car to the cottage because they know I'm packing carrots. The food is always good. We come mostly in the off season. I love the winter season down here. Especially the mussel bakes on the beach when it is snowing. The staff all call me by name, and that's pretty cool. White Point is a very comfortable place to relax. Like their sign says "Your here...now relax". If you can't relax and enjoy yourself here, you can't relax anywhere.

    There's bunnies everywhere! It's awesome.

What a great place to stay and brunch!…read more It is a lovely old house on the main street of Lunenburg. It has a fantastic balance of old and new: - lovely antique furniture, floor coverings, exquisite old light fixtures, etc. - exercise room, high speed internet, business centre, flat screen TV + DVD player in the room. We were blown away by the small touches as the modern stemware in the rooms, updated bathrooms and complementary chocolates on the bed. The bed was a dream to sleep on, once the pillows were cleared and stacked in the corner:-) Nice light cozy comforter on the bed. Now for breakfast - simply fantastic! Cold buffet with solomon gundy, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.. A bread stack that included fresh from the oven croissants. We went with the a la carte eggs benedict - and don't let them give you the back bacon - go for the smoked salmon option - yummmmmm!!! We will definitely be going back. The question is only whether it will be another mid-winter, off season fantastically priced get-away or a full priced mid-summer Lunenburg folk festival week? Not to be missed!

I would recommend The Mariner King without hesitation.

All this after having to listen to a staff member being rude to a fellow worker. When we were leaving the response was that the cleaner went home early! One staff member followed us out to apologize not like the colleague who was rudely yammering to her colleague. We followed up with a call and email and received a sorry. That too is not appropriate. A refund or something to try to make up for the disgusting state of the non sanitary change room would be an attempt to make things right. Sad situation caution on the change room conditions and less than satisfactory excuses.

An internet search brought us to Oceanstone, which seemed like the perfect place to stay as we also wanted to check out Peggy's Cove too. We were lucky enough to secure one night and totally fell in love with the resort, pretty much at first sight. We had put in our booking comments that we were on our honeymoon, hoping we might get a really nice room. We were so pleasantly surprised to walk up to the kitchen in our super cute private cottage and find a lovely bottle of wine along with handmade, outrageously delicious sea salt caramels and a hand written note. To the resort, perhaps a small gesture but to us, it really make our stay that much more special. We really enjoyed our night's stay in our private cottage, which was just set behind the main lodge. The cottage was quaint, clean, and well appointed. We loved our small balcony just outside the living room area, we enjoyed our coffees out there in the morning. The bed was also super comfy too, like a cloud. We loved it there so much we inquired about staying a second night however sadly the resort happened to be fully booked for a wedding party the days immediately following our stay. We ended up eating at the restaurant on their property, Rhubarb, three times in just 2 days - it was so good. We enjoyed an early dinner when we first arrived, then ordered pizza as a "later" night snack then ordered take out the next day for dinner from the next cottage resort we ended up staying at just down the road. We also took a couple of lovely, calm walks along the ocean front during our stay which was so nice. The property is stunning and it feels like you are in another part of the world completely. Looking forward to someday returning again!

All the servers were excellent; attentive, caring, thorough, and knowledgeable about the menu, buildings, and amenities as well as nearby attractions. Those that served our meals at different times and those I watched serving other clients displayed such traits and knowledge. All the guests were relaxed and enjoying the meals with smiles and conversation. Maintenance staff kept the whole place clear of snow, shoveled and salted, all while being friendly and responding to any questions or concerns. The staff of the Digby Pines were engaged, motivated, and worked well between departments, all together creating an amazing team and providing a fantastic experience. To all the staff, those seen by the guests and those working behind the scenes supporting, well done to the whole team. You made our experience forever memorable. The atmosphere at the Digby Pines was special. The Digby Pines is a fine, Grand Hotel of Nova Scotia. The buildings are well maintained and have great aesthetics. I cannot imagine how much time the staff put in to decorate the Hotel for Christmas. It could easily be seen that a great deal of care and forethought went into the effort. The final effect was beautiful and relaxing. I saw a lot of guests photographing so much of the Hotel and the decorations. For those who put it together, a big pat on the back, you all certainly can take pride in the positive reaction of all the guests. My daughter was able to enjoy the Spa while she was there. She was raving to all her friends and family when she returned about how special the staff was, and how well they took care of her. She was especially pleased with the haircut, style and treatments she received. Of course, the food and the ambience of the restaurant were fantastic. There is so much I want to write about the dining experience; the food, the staff, the décor, really must be experienced first-hand to truly understand how satisfying all the meals were. Relaxing contentment on each occasion. Once again, this is achieved by exceptional staff with knowledge, experience and teamwork. Such teamwork reflects good leadership at all levels. I could go on far more about the many great experiences I and my daughter encountered at the Digby Pines; the staff, the food, the atmosphere was all so marvelous. Maybe the best way to write of my encounter is to say, I so want to, and will come back to, the Digby Pines, again and again.

I had the Lobster Roll ($25) which came with fries and a salad (I requested the dressing on the side). My husband had the Mersey Scallops ($24) and these came with roasted potatoes and vegetables. My lobster roll was delicious. It was real lobster mixed with tiny pieces of celery and mayo. It also had some mixed greens in it. In Ottawa, where I'm from, "Lobster Rolls" sometimes have cheap fillers like fake crab mixed in - which is sacrilege, I know, but it happens, so I was thrilled that that did not happen here. Mind you, I fully expect any self-respecting restaurant in the Maritimes to make good Lobster Rolls. Lane's Privateer Inn did not disappoint. I was also glad to see that the side salad was a real spring mix/mesclun mix salad and not iceberg or romaine lettuce. However, the salad was a little on the small side. It had 1 grape tomato cut in half and some grated carrots. It was only a few mouthfuls. The dressing on the side was a light citrus vinaigrette that I enjoyed. The fries were ok. They were a bit on the mealy side, but the outside was crispy at least. My husband enjoyed his meal. He got 6 large scallops, some new potatoes, carrots and broccoli. He gave me a scallop and it was very tasty. We got some complimentary biscuits to start our meal. They were slightly sweet. I thought they were just ok, but my husband really liked them. I gave him three-quarters of mine. I like that they give you a glass bottle of water and leave it at your table. I noticed that each table had a different shaped bottle which I thought was cool. My husband also got a flight of 4 beers for $8. Each beer was 4oz each. He got to chose the beers individually from a list of about 12 beers. All the beers were brewed in Nova Scotia. Service was very friendly and courteous. The ambiance is cool and feels like an old fashioned inn. There's free parking in their private parking lot.

It's a lovely old inn with 27 rooms, each furnished with antiques and each one different to the next. Ours had a claw foot tub that was perfect for pampering. Especially since there were all sorts of wonderful smelling soaps and lotions to go along. But the Inn had more surprises in store for us. The dining rooms - yes, more than one were again furnished from an older, simpler time and the food was delicious. A lobster club sandwich for me and some crispy coated scallops for him...okay, we shared everything and it was all excellent. Next surprise, was the bookstore. We actually ate our lunch in it. Wonderful selections of Canadiana - literature, history and for me...local cookbooks. Feasting for tummy and mind. Perfect! And last, but not least for the foodie in me...the gourmet gift shop with everything from serving pieces to ingredients. Each area - inn, restaurant, bookstore and gourmet gift shop is worth a trip back on its own.

Even though there is slim pickings for accommodations in Liverpool, The Best Western Liverpool doesn't act like it's the only game in town. It is a great hotel in its own right. The rooms are new and clean, like many Best Westerns. What sets this Best Western apart from the rest is the great customer service provided by all staff, not just front desk staff and the little thoughtful things like the breakfast buffet selection for people with dietary restrictions (more on that later), the variety of magazines available in the lobby, and the movies on DVD that you can borrow at the front desk. The breakfast buffet is by far the best I have seen in any hotel. Not because it's fancy or high end (which it's not), but because there is so much selection and it is so considerate of people with dietary restrictions. Gluten-free bread, waffles and muffins are kept in the back room to avoid contamination - you have to ask the breakfast room attendant for them. Gluten-free cereal is kept in its original manufacturer's container, next to the regular cereal dispensers. In addition to regular skim and 2% milk, they have dairy-free, soy-free almond milk. They have different types of yogurt - fat-free, full-fat, with real sugar and with sugar substitutes. They have so many different toppings for your oatmeal or yogurt as well - a dried fruits and nut medley, granola, shredded coconut, dried cranberries, crumbled Reece's pieces, and more that I forget. They have 2 waffle machines, lots of different pastries, bread, and English muffins. They even have processed cheese slices (in cheddar and Swiss) so you can make your own version of the English McMuffin, lol. They have whipped cream, strawberries, blueberries, and syrup for your waffles. They have hashbrowns, baked beans, scrambled eggs and a meat that rotates between sausage and ham. They also encourage recycling and composting with receptacles with clear signage as to what goes into what. The breakfast attendants are all so sweet and helpful, especially Angie and Pam. In our third day there something weird happened to our door and it wouldn't lock. One of the housekeeping staff saw us struggling with the door and said she would ask a maintenance person to come and take a look. He arrived within 10 minutes, took out his tool kit and fixed the door in 5 minutes. Both the housekeeping staff and maintenance staff were pleasant. There is lots of outdoor free parking. And while I've never been an overnight guest myself, I've visited its enchanting interiors and will marvel accordingly. My roommate's parents were in town and staying at the Waverley. Living quite close at the time, we took a walk over to have a visit and investigate the premises. Decor embraced Old Victorian Style and European decadence. The space was personal, rich and beautifully presented. Chandeliers, wallpapering and popping textures appealed to my visuals. It all takes one back to an older time, when furnishings were classic and gladly adorned. Its bed and breakfast style allows for a home away from home feel, but in the lapse of Old Style luxury. Apparently rooms each have their own unique look- no two the same! This would make for reason to come again... They offer free wi-fi in all guest rooms and a tasteful hot breakfast buffet for all guests. The inn has been around for many generations and housed Halifax's own Anna Leonowens and Jon Doul. And on an international scale: the one and only Oscar Wilde! With such deep roots and moderate prices, The Waverly proves to be a top contender in Halifax hospitality. If I ever need to hotel in Halifax, this is a spot that comes to mind!
