Hotel staff are mean and aggressive, when I asked them for a blanket they called me swear words and horrible things and threw bricks at me that they keep under the counter. The Waverley Inn is a dreamy spot to stay if you're looking for a little more charm than the regular hotel experience. And while I've never been an overnight guest myself, I've visited its enchanting interiors and will marvel accordingly. My roommate's parents were in town and staying at the Waverley. Living quite close at the time, we took a walk over to have a visit and investigate the premises. Decor embraced Old Victorian Style and European decadence. The space was personal, rich and beautifully presented. Chandeliers, wallpapering and popping textures appealed to my visuals. It all takes one back to an older time, when furnishings were classic and gladly adorned. Its bed and breakfast style allows for a home away from home feel, but in the lapse of Old Style luxury. Apparently rooms each have their own unique look- no two the same! This would make for reason to come again... They offer free wi-fi in all guest rooms and a tasteful hot breakfast buffet for all guests. (also free) The staff seemed kind and welcoming in my brief encounter and it all made me reflect quite positively on this little spot! The Waverly has age to back its appeal. The inn has been around for many generations and housed Halifax's own Anna Leonowens and Jon Doul. And on an international scale: the one and only Oscar Wilde! My husband and I passed through Halifax three times on our three week Atlantic Canada trip, and the Waverley Inn was the first place we had the pleasure of resting our heads while there. We spent three nights and were both very impressed. The Inn has been open since the late 1800s and is not showing her age at all. From the outside of the building to the main lobby to the rooms, everything is beautiful and well done. Beautiful hardwood floors throughout . When we checked in, the man at the front desk (I believe his name was Matt, I might be wrong) was genuinely friendly and excellent at his job. I came across him a few times during our stay and he was always this way. We stayed in a Traditional room ($129/night in high season - August) on the second floor, which was small but cozy, not suffocating at all. I am not an easy sleeper, and the bed in that room was arguably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. It was soft, the way I like it, and had this amazing V-shaped pillow that knocked me out instantly. Note - there is not an elevator in the building. Breakfast was included in the price and we both found it to be quite sufficient. Cereal, yogurt, fruit, hashbrowns, eggs, oatmeal, juice.... There was also a little table next to the front desk that had cookies or squares each day, along with some apples, and coffee and tea. I really appreciated this as it was nice to grab an apple or a cookie for the road. The Inn has free Wifi and a computer in the lobby as well. The Inn is located in a quiet part of downtown, about a 10 minute walk from the waterfront, the Citadel, shopping and almost everything else you'll want to get to in Halifax. We had a rental car as we were heading out of the city quite a bit, and a huge bonus for us was the free parking provided in a good sized lot right beside the Inn. I also have to add that when I phoned from home to book the room months before our stay, the man on the phone was also extremely helpful and nice. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone going to Halifax. We stayed in three different hotels in Halifax, and this was the best. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here for four nights in a beautifully appointed and spacious queen room on the top floor; it even had a skylight! Staff was extremely efficient and friendly; someone was always cleaning something ... baseboards, shelves, tables, anything and everything ... the place was immaculate. All this was within walking distance to everything the harbour area has to offer. Plus, free wifi, free parking, free buffet breakfast and fresh coffee and goodies in the lobby make it an exceptional value. Look no further than the Waverly! read more

Beautifully appointed B and B style hotel with helpful staff and a great location. But I took 2 stars off because the breakfast is truly horrible! The only edible thing was a hard boiled egg. The coffee was weak brown water. How can such a lovely place offer up such slop for breakfast is beyond me! We had to make a run to the grocery store to substitute for he second morning's breakfast and we had to use instant coffee packets for coffee. read more

This isn't just another small town centre hotel. It's a home from home. All the rooms are individually furnished with antique furniture. Beds are extremely comfortable. Room rates include buffet breakfast with hot dishes, tea & coffee (with biscuits and cakes) in the lobby, free parking in downtown Halifax, and free wifi for the internet. If you don't have your own computer then there are two for the use of guests in the front lounge. The Waverley Inn is a well known landmark in the Christmas season for its decorations. Spent two nights in Room 134 on the top floor (standard room). Bathroom very clean and lots of hot water. Soaps provided were nice. Not a 5* room (smelled like moth balls up there) but fine for what we needed and paid for. Inn is in a great location - less expensive than being on the water but only a few blocks away. Breakfast could definitely be improved - not up to Irish or Scottish B&B standards. Would probably stay here again but might look at a place on the water. read more

We stayed here for one night over the Labour Day weekend. One plus was the convenient location - easy walking distance to the Citadel and the downtown nightlife. We also loved the blues bar directly across the street! It's a bit of an older hotel - they try to make that an attraction, sort of a "heritage" place with old-fashioned decor and paintings - and some of it was quite charming, but there was also a level of "rundown" as well. The room was ok, not huge, but ok. They did provide a "Waverly Inn" branded tote bag which came in really handy for our trips to the market and picnics. I still use that bag! The staff were all very nice and helpful. The wifi was a bit of a problem as I recall. They offered some free breakfast snacks in the morning but we slept in. Vacations. This was one of the more reasonably priced hotels in Halifax that holiday weekend. We actually tried to extend our stay by a night and they were fully booked, so we had to move down to the Harbourfront. I would probably stay here again if I was in town and they offered a competitive price. read more

This lovely inn located in downtown Halifax is a must see! The hotel staff are amazingly nice and they offer free coffee and tea throughout the stay. Their free breakfast is a great addition and they offer ham, eggs, cereal and cold breakfast items as well. The room we stayed in, 111 was heavily decorated with pictures and antique like items. The bed was a double, but the room was too beautiful that we decided to stay in that room. Though, we could hear people running in and out of the hotel if they got rowdy. A great thing about this place is that they were offering a groupon for stays so we got it at a deal, however, their nightly room rate is comparable to the groupon. read more

Don't expect extraordinary - due to historic building no elevator (therefore if mobility is an issue make sure you request main floor location of your room). We were quoted a rate over the phone and when we arrived the rate more than doubled. Because we were staying for two nights, they said they would speak to the manager in the morning. The following morning we were told we would be paying $60 p/night more than the rate we were quoted. The morning staff that happily upsold a sleep deprived traveller was great. The night staff who took 20 mins to open the front door not so much. Sorry I'm on pacific time. Also my room had a definite slant in it. Kept feeling like I would roll out of bed to the floor.
