My home away from home from Tuesday 'til this morning was the Delta Halifax. There was a mini fridge in the room. WIFI was complimentary. Parking was nearby and about $20 a day. The hotel is within walking distance to the waterfront, shopping, Scotiabank Centre, a lot of restaurants and attractions such as Citadel Hill. I'd stay here again. read more

Stayed at the Delta Halifax, not to be confused with the OTHER Delta located across the street, during our long weekend getaway to Halifax back in April. There isn't much too great or too bad that can be said about this hotel really. Parts of it are very new and updated while others remain dated. The rooms were comfortable and clean and our rooms were kept in great condition during our stay by hotel cleaning staff. The bathroom was a bit sad with a bathtub shower which was dated and had very low water pressure. We had a snack and a couple of drinks in the lobby bar and the bar tender there was really amazing and super funny (forgot the chaps name but he was a treat). Less can be said about the Hotel Concierge as I decided to use "old school yelp" and ask the Concierge where I should go for food and she couldn't give me an answer to save her life. In fact all she kept referring to was the hotel restaurant - maybe time to brush up on your local knowledge Delta. If I wasn't a yelper I'd be spending my vacation in Halifax inside the hotel and never experiencing all that your amazing city has to offer. Just a heads up and tip for management on that. This mid-level hotel is, as others have suggested, excellent value for the money. The staff is friendly and get things done quickly, and the price is very reasonable given the quality. My room was clean and well appointed, and had everything that I needed. The hotel provides free wifi and newspapers, has a pool and other amenities, and has quite a decent restaurant. There are some drawbacks though. The layout is idiosyncratic to the point of being confusing and the wifi was so slow my phone kept switching it off. One more complaint:I like to swim for exercise while travelling but that's impossible when the pool is full of kids, so I was elated to see they had an adults only time. But when I turned up an hour into that 2 hour block, the pool was still filled to the brim with rambunctious tykes. Apparently no one observes or enforces rhe rule. read more

Delta Hotel, not to be confused with the nearby Delta Barrington is conveniently located in downtown Halifax near Historic Properties. The hotel is well established and a good base for both business travelers and tourists. It is in need of a renovation, not being up to most Delta standards. My room was clean, quiet and comfortable, but dated. Small bathroom and not enough power plugs for charging phones, laptops, pads, etc (this lack of power outlets is common in the industry so not really a Delta specific issue). Everything in the room worked which is excellent. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I like the hotel but I believe it is a bit expensive for the quality. If you are planning a day of meetings or sight seeing, then a clean, quiet room at the end of the day, close to your activities, is ideal, and this hotel will be a good choice. read more

We reserved a King Room on hotels.com. However, when we came to this hotel, the representative said, the hotel just doesn't have any king rooms left, customers' "reservation" only means a REQUEST, not guarantee they would have rooms available, and she was trying to persuade us by stating that it's just ONE-DAY stay. What's that mean for just ONE-DAY stay?! For a couple it means they need to sleep seperately! Would you consider it's a great explanation? I don't care whether you are overbooked or something going wrong in the information system, at least the hotel has the responsibility to notice us in advance. In addition, the Hotels.com should only show rooms available on its website. Generally, the location of this Hotel is great. You can easily access to any hot-spots in downtown. Whereas, the cleanness of this hotel is on average. There is nothing in our refrigerator which should stocked with snacks and soft drinks. Anyway, I'll never book this hotel again and never use hotel.com. Thank you for the lession of "Just ONE-DAY". read more

Convention Facilities Review Living in HRM, I don't really have any reason to stay at one of the local hotels. However, I recently attended a convention there (and was one of the organizers) so I stayed and had a chance to work with the staff. They were, in all aspects, very professional. From the chefs to the servers and the management, they really could not do enough to make our event top notch. The Baronet Ballroom and the Bluenose Ballroom were excellent for groups. They can be divided and configured to accommodate large groups for a multitude of functions. The food was simply incredible. Menu selections were plentiful, tasty and presented beautifully. All staff really did go the extra mile for us. No request to burdensome or met with any resistance. When they remember your name and ask you if there is anything they can do (completely at random), isn't that ideal? I would not hesitate to use this venue again or recommend it. read more

5 stars on customer service and value for $$. I was responsible for organizing our office Christmas party here and everyone was pleased with the event. Colin, the Conference Services Manager was a pleasure to work with. In fact, everyone involved was professional, friendly and accomodating. We went with a buffet meal and it was outstanding. The chowder, the best I've ever had, people were having second and third helpings. The venue was perfect for our small group. My husband and I stayed at the hotel for the evening and were pleased with our accomodations. The room was clean and well maintained. We needed to call guest services for a couple things and our requests were handled quickly. Front desk were friendly and fast. This was our first stay at the Halifax but we have stayed several times at the Barrington. If I understand correctly, both places (across the street from each other) are pretty much run by the same management team. Both hotels are older and some rooms are showing their age. Regardless, I've always found them to be very clean and comfortable. I was told the rooms will be going through renos over the next year or so. In my experience, if you have any issues, contact management and they are very responsive and willing to take corrective action. There is a fee for parking but I have yet to find a hotel in any downtown in any city that does not charge a fee for parking. Parking in a city center is always at a premium. If you don't mind the walk (all indoors & pedways) the parking at the casino parking garage is the best deal. Go online and check the promos and packages for the hotel and you can sometimes get some pretty sweet deals. Of course the best deals are going to be weekends and off season but if you are just looking for a getaway weekend in the city, the Deltas in Halifax have it wrapped up IMHO. read more

As far as hotels go, this place is A-OK. Friendly service, unique layout and decent rates. There's a great hot tub and pool and the location is perfect. I felt compelled to review this hotel simply because of the fact that THE TRAILER PARK BOYS chilled with us outside the min entrance at 3am! My favorite hotel to stay at in Halifax. It's close to everything and it's in a mall with a great food court. Staff are friendly. The only problem I have is it seems like the room I got this time has the bathroom inside a closet. Sort of odd? It's an older hotel, but it's well maintained. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and helpful. And although it was very busy during my 3 day stay, I didn't feel anonymous. The parking was a little bit confusing until we figured out which elevators to take. The signs are there, we just didn't read them. The convenience of the parkade made it worth the minor confusion. Also, the pedway makes getting around very convenient. Being connected to the Scotia Square Mall is great for shopping or grabbing a meal at the food court. The hotel has a gym with enough relatively new machines /equipment to have a good workout, and the pool is quite nice. Overall an enjoyable experience. Good value. I'll stay there again. read more

This downtown hotel was one of the main hubs for schmoozing during the Atlantic Film Festival. I bartended the VIP lounge during the bustling festivities and found my time at this establishment to be quite pleasant. I spent most of my time in conference rooms, in particular a room with a large patio overlooking the harbour, boasting an insuite bar along with all of the amenities of a hotel room (save for the bed). The hotel staff were quite helpful in assisting us with clean up and set up, and all of my interactions with the employees were quite nice. The front desk attendants were very helpful and courteous, available to call cabs and assist patrons with finding their respective ways about town. The whole hotel seemed clean and well kept, and the restaurant on the main floor was popular amongst guests. If you're looking to host an event and need a location, this hotel could have the perfect space for you. I've been to the Delta Halifax a number of times throughout the years, whether its been my own stay or a friend's. The service and facilities have always been on par, and its location is prime for downtown adventures. The hotel itself is connected through pedways to both Scotia Square Mall and the Casino. Having a decent eatery, liquor store, drug stores and shops on hand can certainly add appeal. Convenience is key! Prices are what you'd expect from a chain hotel brand, and the rooms are of standard set-up. Certainly not the "ultimate experience", but thats not to say there is anything wrong here. Delta lingers somewhere in the middle for me, with its key location and interconnecting walkways as the selling point. read more

I have stayed at the Delta on a few occasions mainly for the convenience of location. The Hotel itself is nice and the rooms fine. I was here for an event, which was quite nicely put on by the hotel. The staff were great and the food was very tasty. It is a great hotel to put an event on. The casino is close by and you can stroll down the waterfront. read more

We stayed at the Delta Halifax for 4 nights in late July and the service was truly fantastic! We were given the opportunity to see several rooms before choosing one with a great view. The hotel itself is clean and well kept and the room (1-bedroom suite) was quite nice with an excellent harbour view. We were given complimentary drinks in the bar while our room was being prepared. The location is good, near one end of downtown but easy walking distance to most of the local attractions. Where things really stand out however is the customer service. From the very beginning, Shawna at the front desk welcomed us as if into her own home. She recommended local sights and places to eat, and printed out directions for us to Peggy's Cove and Lunenberg. She also had a dessert delivered to our room when she found out it was my wife's birthday. Finally, when my wife found the hotel pillows a bit too firm, Shawna brought her one from her own home!! Where else have you ever heard of customer service like that? The rest of the staff were all unfailingly friendly and helpful. We really felt like welcome guests rather than customers. We will not hesitate to stay here again! read more

We stayed at this Marriott on vacation and it was very nice. It's a very upscale hotel. We had a couple issue but we worked through them. One issue we had was where they had us park was very awkward compared where the front of the hotel is. You have to go around the entire block and enter a parking garage on the back side of the block and everything is one way so if you miss it then you have to make another loop. The second issue was that our tv was cutting in and out for about 2 hours. It wasn't a huge issue considering we went to bed relatively early but still when we were trying to watch tv it would cut in and out. Those are the only issues we had. It was a very nice hotel and the staff was very nice. read more

Got a Poolside for New Years and the we loved it. Kids ran in and out and we were able to relax before freezing to death downtown for fireworks. Close to the Casino and other restaurants. The breath taking view and elegant dining experience, with the dessert station located inside the Bluenose Room including a nice touch of a Christmas tree. Christmas Buffet 4 years in a row was set up in the Empress Room, now our 5th year everything is jammed in the Baronet Rooms with the buffet table in the middle of the room. The ambience of elegance was gone, a Christmas tree outside the doorway, and amidst the chaos a jammed doorway getting off the elevator with no room to manœuvre between the check in desk, the bathroom and the coat rack. On top of the world without a view in an over-crowded room it felt like we were in a cafeteria. Two of our company of four (4) had arrived at 17:50 and were seated, while 2 more of us arrived exactly at 6:00 pm. On our table were cutlery, napkins, pitcher of milk and sugar holder; missing were side plates, coffee cups, and Christmas decorations. People were standing around the buffet table waiting for dinner plates. 20 mins goes by before we could begin the buffet experience. The long buffet table included empty heated dinner plates at one end continuing to the cold then hot stations on either side ending with desserts . Immediately across from the end of the buffet table were two stations; a craving station and a sauté station - set up against the wall facing the desserts. One with white turkey and roast beef craved for you - gravy in a pot to help yourself. In between the two stations a help yourself dark turkey meat in gravy; no Yorkshire pudding. Next was the Sauté Station featuring scallops and shrimp flambé with pasta and your choice of sauces- Alfredo or tomato. Four years (4) in a row all these stations were separated in the Empress Board Room with plenty of room to move around, and easy access to the Carving station and the Sauté Station, with two doors of entry into the buffet table. The lighting in the room was not soft, no candles on the tables around the room, and no center pieces. The veggies were dried out, staff were not topping off the buffet in a timely manner. I could not get near the chocolate fondue with the chaos of the Craving and Sauté Station making it difficult to move around. The roast beef was good, the turkey was at the end of its game, and the dark meat was soaked in gravy. The cook at the Sauté Station made a simple combine of shrimp and scallops, which was the high light of my meal. I had to ask for the apple crisp dessert to be replenished and for whipped cream to top it off. There was a Laissez-faire attitude from staff. After exiting the Baronet Room at 19:07 pm a crowd surrounded the elevator. It was taking too long for the only operating elevator to show up. I asked a man with a badge where was the stairwell? He moved a coat rack blocking the Fire Exit. After traveling down numerous stair cases, a sign read 14 to the Lobby, when we reached the 1st floor. A staff member had a radio in her hand telling us there was a silent fire alarm. 6 fire fighters came out of the elevators and shut them down - people in the stairwell with us exclaimed a 92 year old woman had to walk down all those stairs. We were all in the same boat, and some of us had disabilities despite our age. To sum it up, arrival 17:53, 8 mins from Parkade to the Baronet Room 18:00, 30 mins waiting for plates, staff, payment 19:07; 9 minutes spent in the stairwell to get to the Lobby. What an unpleasant view when we escaped the Delta Halifax Christmas day to see 3 fire trucks outside to greet us. read more

Centrally located near the water, I have been here several times and still get confused at which one I am staying at (another Delta is across the road). I stayed during the first weekend of November, 2016 for Hal-Con, a sci-fi convention. As many other reviewers have stated, the rooms are a good size, the beds are comfortable and clean, the pool is clean and not over-chlorinated, the lobby's great; spacious, clean and bright...But for me what stood out more than anything was the employees and their devotion to customer service. About 6 days before the event I was attending some sudden and unavoidable obstacles reared their ugly heads. They could easily have ruined my weekend, but Nicole Bruce, the Guest Services Manager, stepped up and helped fix everything...and then saw to it that the rest of my weekend not only went smoothly but was well worth the year of planning and the excitement I had built toward it all year. What Ms Bruce did not know was that for me and one of my two roommates, this was the first time in 20 years that we had been able to indulge in something very dear to us, and the first convention I have been to since the parting ways with and death of the man I loved dearly. That weekend meant everything to me, and was a much needed start toward becoming a part of the community again. It was her determination and willingness to go the extra mile that saved the day, and I had the best time I have had in those twenty years. On top of her devotion, room service was very helpful and understanding when there were a couple extra things we needed. It was fantastic, while prancing about as Jedi and aliens and superheroes, to be greeted with smiles and good-natured chuckles from the desk clerks. I really feel like I could have asked for the moon and they'd have found a way to make it happen. read more

Had Christmas Dinner at the Hotel and it was AWFUL! It would have been happier to eat at MacDonald's at least I wouldn't be starved when I got home and have to cook something for my guests and I. The food was ICE COLD, all of it from the gravy to the veggies and the meat. The oven roasted potatoes were still hard, the gravy for the turkey was.. oops there was none, the bowl was empty for about 15 minutes. The beef gravy (jus) was cold. They tried to serve cold marinated pasta with hot stir fried shrimp, the shrimp was good and that was all people were eating because the pasta was cold and awful.The mussels were even strange, with fatty pieces of bacon in it, no flavor, usually there is some wine with garlic, herbs something to give them some taste, and I didn't think you could have bad mussels, boy was I wrong. Now lets move to the salads, OMG. The Caesar salad was sopping wet, the lettuce was drenched and soggy, then there was something resembling a purple cabbage slaw, well it was soaked in mayo or whatever the dressing was, you could scoop the dressing out with a cup it was that loaded with dressing, it looked like a soggy barfed mess, I couldn't even look at it. DISGUSTING!! Now on to the dessert menu, the only thing that was good was the ginger cake. Some of the desserts looked like they melted and it was a heap of slop, you couldn't even cut a piece, it was that messed up. I complained to the manager and they did offer me half price, but that was even a lot since I only ate, cheese, bread, grapes and ginger cake.I have to say that I went to this Hotel for Dinner 2 years ago and it was delicious, so this year I raved about it to my friends and told them they had to check it out; but, I hope they didn't go and take their family I'd be sad for them. Let me offer some advice for the CHEF and staff, perhaps have a couple different salads, but do "Not put the dressing on it" have it in bowls beside the salad so people can put on as much or as little as they like, then it won't go all soggy.( seems to me just common sense). Or maybe even a plate of raw veggies with dip. When I was there a couple of years ago it seemed as they had a veggie and fruit tray. They also served hot pasta they made in front of you, you could add your protein and veggies and they stir fried it up with a couple different sauces, it was excellent, that is what I went for this year, but instead got cold marinated pasta. It's cold out I want HOT FOOD!! For the staff it is important you keep the gravies HOT, that is why everyone is there (FOR A HOT DINNER). I thought the dressing was fruit cake, it was an odd dressing. Maybe the focus should be on less food items, but of better quality. I was so hungry I would have ate a fruit tray and raw veggies, but there was none. Remember when you make dessert not everyone can eat a ton of sweets,a fruit choice would have been nice.. and simple, compliment to the end of a meal. On my way out I heard many complaints about the meal, I am hoping they made staff aware of their disappointment so this does not happen again. This is the first negative review of a holiday dinner I have ever written, but I was so disappointed for my guests and myself I felt it needed to be said. I don't think I would ever chance going back next year because of this experience. They either need a new CHEF or a new food Manager. read more

By Far my Favorite hotel I have stayed in. We have stayed here twice both for a week duration. The first time was just my husband and I and we were at the sister property they failed to let us know they were under construction and we were woken up quite early I went down to the desk to let them know we were not aware of this. they apologized and offered us free breakfast and a move to the Delta Halifax (this hotel) The staff at both by far met our expectations. The first trip we were on our house hunting trip to move from Ontario to here. When they found that out they gave us a map of the HRM and circled where to look and where to stay away. We were treated to dinner and wine as we were telling them this was our first time together alone since our son was born and since my husband had come home from overseas. That we were looking forward to this posting as he wouldn't be gone as much. The second time we stayed here was when we moved and we were waiting for our items to arrive. they made sure we had two rooms adjoining (Suite) as we had our son, two dogs and my mother along with us to help with the move. even though it had been 4 weeks later, we were greeted by name by all the staff as we entered the building and did not have to even give our name at check in. They had a little present for our son when we checked in as well which entertained him for the week and till this day 1 year later he loves his dinosaur he was given. Everyday we came down we were asked how the house was coming along ( as we were painting and such while we were waiting for our moving truck to come from Ontario) The day our stuff did come they allowed us to leave my mom, dogs and son in the room until 7 or 8pm as unloading a moving truck and waiting for them to put our furniture together. I am also impressed that to this day when my family walks by either of the Delta Halifax or the Delta Barrington the staff still greets us with hi Mr. and Mrs. Irwin. How are you liking Halifax? I can stay we will definitely be back when we are posted out of Halifax and we recommend this hotel to any friends or family that come to visit us. read more

I stayed at the Delta Halifax for business for one night and was treated like royalty! I rented a car from enterprise (which is a short walk up two flights of stairs from the lobby to scotia square, where you'll find sushi, a food court, and your car rental! I was so pleased with Elisthe at the front desk who patiently checked me in with someone else's card over the secure billing site. When I returned in the evening and parked my car, the manager Kevin took my luggage right into my room for me so I could head out to dinner right away. I can't say enough good things. The room was lovely and had a view of the harbour and citadel hill. Gorgeous. read more
