The hallway was extremely loud and disruptive from 8am-11am The elevator did not work to get my bags up to my room The ceilings have mold There are no refrigerators or microwaves anywhere This place needs a monumental overhaul in many ways. I was amazed by so many aspects of our stay at the Digby Pines for Christmas. I actually, do not want to write of the great experience I had at the Pines this Christmas, because I would like to keep the secret of this gem all to myself. All the staff were exceptional. All the servers were excellent; attentive, caring, thorough, and knowledgeable about the menu, buildings, and amenities as well as nearby attractions. Those that served our meals at different times and those I watched serving other clients displayed such traits and knowledge. All the guests were relaxed and enjoying the meals with smiles and conversation. Maintenance staff kept the whole place clear of snow, shoveled and salted, all while being friendly and responding to any questions or concerns. The staff of the Digby Pines were engaged, motivated, and worked well between departments, all together creating an amazing team and providing a fantastic experience. To all the staff, those seen by the guests and those working behind the scenes supporting, well done to the whole team. You made our experience forever memorable. The atmosphere at the Digby Pines was special. The Digby Pines is a fine, Grand Hotel of Nova Scotia. The buildings are well maintained and have great aesthetics. I cannot imagine how much time the staff put in to decorate the Hotel for Christmas. It could easily be seen that a great deal of care and forethought went into the effort. The final effect was beautiful and relaxing. I saw a lot of guests photographing so much of the Hotel and the decorations. For those who put it together, a big pat on the back, you all certainly can take pride in the positive reaction of all the guests. My daughter was able to enjoy the Spa while she was there. She was raving to all her friends and family when she returned about how special the staff was, and how well they took care of her. She was especially pleased with the haircut, style and treatments she received. Of course, the food and the ambience of the restaurant were fantastic. There is so much I want to write about the dining experience; the food, the staff, the décor, really must be experienced first-hand to truly understand how satisfying all the meals were. Relaxing contentment on each occasion. Once again, this is achieved by exceptional staff with knowledge, experience and teamwork. Such teamwork reflects good leadership at all levels. I could go on far more about the many great experiences I and my daughter encountered at the Digby Pines; the staff, the food, the atmosphere was all so marvelous. TLDR - The hotel has a classic charm with modern perks and is getting some final much needed modernization. It all comes at a great value for the perks and has a great view! First of all, to anyone worried about the hotel being dated, it seems as though they're in the process of making renovations to the facility. The hotel itself was full of an old world charm that you'd expect visiting a historic location. Some may see that as dated but, in fact, the recent changes are embracing the classic design style which honestly makes this place really special. My room was clean, the pool was warm, our food was really nice, you couldn't want more from the location. My one piece of advice is to give them a bit more time to put the finishing touches on their modernization. The boiler was out while we stayed, but the staff was incredibly helpful about giving us other options and were really professional about the matter altogether (Still five stars!). Getting to wake up to Nespresso is a big plus when you've got a lot of driving ahead of you. While I didn't get the chance to visit the golf course, I have heard it's world class from some locals and I don't doubt it after seeing the hotel. read more

We'd, previously, stayed at the property and thought it was fine. Food was acceptable, if expensive. Dated, and in need of a refresh, but there is little competition in the area. Staff were, generally, pleasant. However, one evening, as soon as my wife turned on the light, we saw a cockroach on the wall! We killed it, then starting searching the room and saw one more on the chest of drawers. We called the Front Desk and were told they would let Maintenance know and get back. No one, ever, did. We, promptly, left the next day. read more

Out toilet would only flush about once an hour (not enough water pressure). When I asked the main desk about it there only response was that it's an old building. There is no MINI fridge in the regular rooms so don't bother bringing any food or drinks with you that you want cold. The carpet in the room was filled with stains and lifting. Two stars because the golf course is worth it but nothing else. Felt like such a waste of my money. read more

After hearing many others rave about beautiful Digby Pines Resort, my husband and I decided to celebrate our first anniversary there. From the moment we first spotted the resort we were amazed by its facilities and its breathtaking view overlooking the Bay of Fundy. We chose to stay in one of their many cozy little cottages and received nothing but excellent customer service during our stay. The staff even went so far as to surprise us by leaving an anniversary card in our room with a bowl of chocolate covered strawberries. Amenties of the resort include an outdoor heated pool, tennis courts and a fitness centre, with hiking trails surrounding the area. Also included in our stay was a delicious hot buffet breakfast. I highly recommend anyone to stay there, especially golf-lovers as Digby Pines Golf Course is just a short drive up the road. read more

This hotel/resort is very old-timey. If you like the old-school charm in an idyllic setting then consider staying here. We spent one night here in September, just after the Labor Day weekend. It is just down the road from the port town of Digby, the scallop capital of Canada and had some great seafood right on the wharf. The hotel is large and offers rooms in the main building as well as cabins. There is a heated outdoor pool and a fitness center with a small sauna. Our room was small, as rooms were back in the day. There was just enough room for the king-sized bed and a couple of chairs with not a lot of wiggle room. Though handicap accessible, be aware that some of the rooms require the use of stairs as ours did. The restaurant seemed to offer a nice brunch, but because it ended at 10am, which is too early for a vacation spot in my oppinion, we opted to eat in town, which is where we took all of our meals. However, the hotel does offer fine-dining for dinner. We checked out the walking trail that goes all around the hotel grounds, which are expansive. All in all a nice place to stay and would recommend it of you are travelling in the area. read more

I've been traveling to Digby for work on a regular basis since 2003, Digby Pines is the only proper hotel in the area but it is only open during the tourist season. If you are traveling to Digby during the winter you will have to find a bed and breakfast that stays open year round. Digby Pines is owned by the Nova Scotia Canadian provincial government, it is a beautiful old property but has the vibe of a government operation rather than a luxury hotel. The rooms are fairly small and spartan, you won't mistake the Pines for a Ritz Carlton. That said, I am a sucker for historic hotels and I really love the Pines! The Golf Course is the star of this property, the course is over 100 years old and is beautifully maintained. The fairways are lined by large, old pine trees and the course has fairly significant elevation changes. read more

So I would say this was generally a spontaneous visit. A friend and I had driven the four+ hours from Halifax on a sunny, fall Saturday morning to the Brier Islands to go whale watching, it ended up being called off due to high winds, so we took our time heading back on the drive. (she never having been in the Maritimes before, I wanted to take the most scenic way possible). So after being recommended to stop into the Pines from others in the past, we thought we'd give it a try. Arrived at the resort/restaurant around 2pm and were literally the only people there. I felt kind of bad that it was so quiet, but I guess the summer season is over and what can you expect...anyway, the front desk staff pointed us downstairs to the restaurant. We stood at the front counter/podium for a few seconds before we were noticed, then were told to take whichever table we wanted. I felt quite out of place in my 'sweats' in this white table clothed/wedding reception-looking/banquet hall, but again, we were the only ones there, so who cares ultimately. My friend and I took a four-seater by a window (the room is all well lit naturally, with windows running the full length of the room, and a gorgeous view of the property & water). Probably 30 tables of four and six-seaters? I could be wrong. Very patient waiter greeted us almost right away and brought my friend's very specific tea order to the table, which she needed because she wasn't feeling the best and was anxious to get it asap. Throughout the meal he was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Veggie Magic burger (Grilled Portobello Mushrooms l Arugula l Bruschetta l Goat's Cheese l Chive Mayo. 12.95) with side of mushroom soup. Was able to finish it all but was very satisfied, both very good. She ordered the BBQ Pulled Beef on Foccaccia $14.95 (Beef Stake Onion rings I Mushrooms I Oka Cheese) but could only each half the sandwich. She had the other half put in a container to go, but then we realized after we had left, that she'd forgotten the container on the table. Was very disappointing because it would have made a great evening snack. Would I go back? Absolutely, although I can see it mainly as a weekend getaway or wedding type event where I wouldn't necessarily have the same menu to choose from. Digby is far enough from Halifax where I don't normally go there for any reason, but if I lived closer, this could be a standard fine-dining/special occasion meal out. read more

Commendations for Crystal Moore and Shianne on the wait staff in the lovely restaurant with harbour view. Both gave exceptional service with help going beyond expectations. Crystal even came to our table with an over-the-counter remedy for my wife's serious cold. Dee (spelling?) was an excellent, accommodating restaurant supervisor. This large and lovely hotel is on enormous grounds and many, many beautiful flower gardens. Huge, protected, heated outdoor pool, but only a smattering of old equipment in the spacious fitness centre. Room was small but very elegant. Bathroom was small and could use updates, but everything worked fine and was very clean. Towels were sumptuous. King bed was superb, better than our own at home- it eliminated the back pain I have been suffering for months. Very elegant lounge and attached room with comfy easy chairs and view of Digby harbour and town. Worth a several day stay, just to enjoy the scenery and facilities. Unfortunately, we only used it as a base for day trips in the area and had to move into our next vacation destination. read more

Lovely resort where you can play golf, get a good walk either through the woods on the property, or downtown. There's outdoor games (shuffleboard and chess) as well as indoors in the main sitting room. There's also an outdoor swimming pool. The rooms are smallish and the hotel somewhat older, but they have WIFI and a couple chairs in the room to sit on. Get help carrying your bags because there is lots of upstairs and downstairs even with the elevator. The food is excellent in the dining room. Good gift shop. Desk help was friendly and helpful, maids awesome. read more

This was my first visit to The Pines! We will be back! The Sunday brunch had all the usual fare...bacon, eggs, sausage, breads, juice, pastries... And then...Omelet station, carving station, fresh salmon, beef and chicken options...the best Belgian Waffles ever! The highlight was the unlimited steamed mussels...Plump and juicy with white wine and garlic... And the dessert selection was to die for. Dontt miss this when in Digby! YUM! read more

Wow what a great place! We were treated like a king and queen. Had drinks on the terrace, the bartender was friendly and personable, the pool is heated and outside with high walls to keep the wind out but the sun in. Spa is next door and takes Blue Cross for massages! Bonus! Then after a few drinks the front desk girl says they have a shuttle to drop you off and Pick you up!! For free!! We had supper downtown and few more drinks, shuttled back and a great musician playing in the lobby. He knew every song you thru at him and the acoustics in the 1930s lobby was fantastic. Beer is cheap and ocean view perfect. The rooms are orginial woodwork from 30s, so elegant. Golf course on site! Walking trails, cottages, perfect get away. Highly recommend! read more

Stayed here for a family vacation and although the resort has some great views and a good location it really needs some upgrades to their rooms. The lobby, dining area and lounge were quite nice while the rooms seemed to lag behind the elegance of the rest of the resort. The staff were great and accommodating. Always love coming here. Beautiful old hotel that takes you back in time when traveling was a leisurely sport of the wealthy. The pool is heated and nice it is right beside the spa which my wife got to enjoy. I use to just stop here on the way to Halifax just to have a 5 star lunch and take in the grace of this place. This hotel now in the off season (sept) is very affordable with online prices around $120 a night. Prefect place to take the wife while on a budget. Nicest place in this area for sure! read more

On arriving we were impressed with the front desk people and the beautiful lobby. The room we stayed at was just ok. The first thing we noticed was a big stain next to the bed in the carpet.There was also some chipped paint in the bathroom. Not a big deal but makes you wonder about how clean the place really is. Other things like there was no regular coffee in the basket next to the in room coffee maker. To get ice you have to walk to the other end of the building to get it. We had breakfast in the room and what we didn't eat was still in the room when we returned that night. Including our OJ glasses that had just a dab of OJ still in them. The rolls were put in a separate basket so our room cleaner apparently thought we still wanted them. I quess they are trained differently here. The restaurant is very nice but again we had good service and food one night and not so good on another. Beautiful view and nice but maybe the place needs some up grading in service and building maintenance. read more

We rented a cottage - it had many spiders and was poorly maintained on the exterior. Could be very nice if they would maintain it.

Food is five star and reasonable. Rooms charming and quaint, though an older inn. Help from front desk is a 19 on a scale of 1 to 10.

The castle is a sight be behold, and activities to do? Lots. Could've done without the hasty employees but hey, it's a big place.
