The Canadian Maritimes: Quintessential White Point…read more As owners of ten timeshare weeks, the university's academic schedule permits numerous opportunities during the calendar year for adventure and exploring. We have visited the Maritime Provinces in Canada on several occasions. Our usual motor route is Ohio to Ontario and then time is allotted to visit London, Waterloo, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces: New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. For this holiday, we opted to fly into Halifax, Nova Scotia for a ten-day visit to the Maritimes. We extended the week's visit to White Point Vacation Club with overnight lodgings in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia prior to our week at White Point Vacation Club in southern Nova Scotia. We returned to our Ohio home for one night, and immediately flew to our Marriott Ocean Pointe resort in Palm Beach. In eighteen days we experienced the beaches of the Maritimes and the Palm Beaches. The contact information is White Point Beach Resort (#R638), 75 White Point Road #2 Queens County, NS, B0T 1G0, Canada, 866.869.2585 or 800.565.5068. The RCI photos do not accurately display the condos, but http://www.redweek.com/resort/P5064-white-point-vacation-club does provide several accurate interior and exterior photos of White Point Vacation Club. My initial reaction to the photos was that these condos are "mobile home units" similar to ones that we had visited in Napa Valley. The Napa Valley units were much too small for two adults. However, the White Point Beach Resort condos are actually freestanding modern spacious wooden homes. Each condo is located on nearly an acre of ground. White Point Vacation Club provides seclusion and privacy. White Point Beach Resort condos are very large accommodations; offer a full kitchen, all cooking utensils, two spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, a small dining area, a large family room with a wood burning fireplace, a huge wood deck with furniture, and a gas grill. White Point Vacation Club is a unique facility. Beware of the large bunnies that have been a White Point tradition for decades. The condo units are nestled in a forest setting similar to cabins in a state or national park. White Point Beach Resort resembles an "older" Michigan or New England resort. "Older" may connote romance and ambience. Some readers may recall the secluded lodge in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing. The storyline called for a setting (Kellerman's Resort) in the Catskills, but the actual Dirty Dancing lodge is in Virginia (Mountain Lake Resort in Pembroke, Virginia.) White Point Beach Resort was constructed in 1928 as a private hunting and fishing lodge. White Point Beach Resort initially consisted of a few cabins on the beach, an eight-room main lodge, and a dining room. These buildings remain and are functional today. Expansion has been gradual and continuous through the years. All the original buildings were of split log construction. Modern construction coexists with nearly 75-year-old structures. White Point Beach Resort is Atlantic Canada's very popular year-round, seaside beach vacation destination. The resort features a half mile white sand beach, indoor and outdoor pools, lake, golf, tennis, trails, surfing, recreation programs, a spa, and dining room showcasing Nova Scotia cuisine. White Point Beach Resort is in very high demand with the residents of Halifax who are only ninety minutes north. White Point Beach Resort is also a destination for many Canadians and U.S. citizens. White Point Vacation Club is a timeshare that is an integral part of White Point Beach Resort. One visitor noted, "You won't be disappointed with the world-renowned Maritime hospitality. People are down to earth and not cosmopolitan as Nova Scotia mostly has small towns and villages." We have frequently experienced this hospitality in the Maritimes. White Point Vacation Club is s 95 miles southwest of Halifax on Route 103. Take Exit 20A, at the intersection of the highway connector and Route 3, turn right (West) on to Route 3 and follow Route 3 (White Point Road) to White Point Beach Resort. Liverpool is the nearest town where chain grocery stores and other small stores and restaurants are located. Liverpool is about ten minutes north of White Point Beach Resort. It seems essential to arrive at White Point Beach Resort during the daylight hours. The driver must be careful of children and bunnies when entering the White Point Beach Resort property. Check-in for the White Point Vacation Club is at the main White Point Beach Resort lodge. The check in process is efficient and without the nuisance of a timeshare sales staff. The White Point Vacation Club is in a forest beyond a small lake, and the drive involves several alternative dirt roads. The approach is very straightforward in daylight but may be confusing after dark.

What a great place to stay and brunch!…read more It is a lovely old house on the main street of Lunenburg. It has a fantastic balance of old and new: - lovely antique furniture, floor coverings, exquisite old light fixtures, etc. - exercise room, high speed internet, business centre, flat screen TV + DVD player in the room. We were blown away by the small touches as the modern stemware in the rooms, updated bathrooms and complementary chocolates on the bed. The bed was a dream to sleep on, once the pillows were cleared and stacked in the corner:-) Nice light cozy comforter on the bed. Now for breakfast - simply fantastic! Cold buffet with solomon gundy, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.. A bread stack that included fresh from the oven croissants. We went with the a la carte eggs benedict - and don't let them give you the back bacon - go for the smoked salmon option - yummmmmm!!! We will definitely be going back. The question is only whether it will be another mid-winter, off season fantastically priced get-away or a full priced mid-summer Lunenburg folk festival week? Not to be missed!

When he showed us to our room in the Cranberry Suites he informed us that he upgraded our room prior to our arrival. Excellent service, immaculately clean rooms. I would recommend The Mariner King without hesitation.

All this after having to listen to a staff member being rude to a fellow worker. When we were leaving the response was that the cleaner went home early! One staff member followed us out to apologize not like the colleague who was rudely yammering to her colleague. We followed up with a call and email and received a sorry. That too is not appropriate. A refund or something to try to make up for the disgusting state of the non sanitary change room would be an attempt to make things right. Sad situation caution on the change room conditions and less than satisfactory excuses.

An internet search brought us to Oceanstone, which seemed like the perfect place to stay as we also wanted to check out Peggy's Cove too. We were lucky enough to secure one night and totally fell in love with the resort, pretty much at first sight. We had put in our booking comments that we were on our honeymoon, hoping we might get a really nice room. We were so pleasantly surprised to walk up to the kitchen in our super cute private cottage and find a lovely bottle of wine along with handmade, outrageously delicious sea salt caramels and a hand written note. To the resort, perhaps a small gesture but to us, it really make our stay that much more special. We really enjoyed our night's stay in our private cottage, which was just set behind the main lodge. The cottage was quaint, clean, and well appointed. We loved our small balcony just outside the living room area, we enjoyed our coffees out there in the morning. The bed was also super comfy too, like a cloud. We loved it there so much we inquired about staying a second night however sadly the resort happened to be fully booked for a wedding party the days immediately following our stay. We ended up eating at the restaurant on their property, Rhubarb, three times in just 2 days - it was so good. We enjoyed an early dinner when we first arrived, then ordered pizza as a "later" night snack then ordered take out the next day for dinner from the next cottage resort we ended up staying at just down the road. We also took a couple of lovely, calm walks along the ocean front during our stay which was so nice. The property is stunning and it feels like you are in another part of the world completely. Looking forward to someday returning again!

All the servers were excellent; attentive, caring, thorough, and knowledgeable about the menu, buildings, and amenities as well as nearby attractions. Those that served our meals at different times and those I watched serving other clients displayed such traits and knowledge. All the guests were relaxed and enjoying the meals with smiles and conversation. Maintenance staff kept the whole place clear of snow, shoveled and salted, all while being friendly and responding to any questions or concerns. The staff of the Digby Pines were engaged, motivated, and worked well between departments, all together creating an amazing team and providing a fantastic experience. To all the staff, those seen by the guests and those working behind the scenes supporting, well done to the whole team. You made our experience forever memorable. The atmosphere at the Digby Pines was special. The Digby Pines is a fine, Grand Hotel of Nova Scotia. The buildings are well maintained and have great aesthetics. I cannot imagine how much time the staff put in to decorate the Hotel for Christmas. It could easily be seen that a great deal of care and forethought went into the effort. The final effect was beautiful and relaxing. I saw a lot of guests photographing so much of the Hotel and the decorations. For those who put it together, a big pat on the back, you all certainly can take pride in the positive reaction of all the guests. My daughter was able to enjoy the Spa while she was there. She was raving to all her friends and family when she returned about how special the staff was, and how well they took care of her. She was especially pleased with the haircut, style and treatments she received. Of course, the food and the ambience of the restaurant were fantastic. There is so much I want to write about the dining experience; the food, the staff, the décor, really must be experienced first-hand to truly understand how satisfying all the meals were. Relaxing contentment on each occasion. Once again, this is achieved by exceptional staff with knowledge, experience and teamwork. Such teamwork reflects good leadership at all levels. I could go on far more about the many great experiences I and my daughter encountered at the Digby Pines; the staff, the food, the atmosphere was all so marvelous. Maybe the best way to write of my encounter is to say, I so want to, and will come back to, the Digby Pines, again and again.

It is about 30…read more- 45 minutes from the town of Shelburne along this route in which we came across two bear cubs on the road. We arrived late in the evening around 9 PM. The lodge is in the middle of the forest so you have to travel down a dirt road to reach it. We were greeted promptly with a glass of wine. The lodge is decorated nicely. We sat outside by the fire pit. It was a little buggy and it would have been nice if the citronella candle torches were lit. We wanted to use the jacuzzi but it was not available because they had cleaned it and the water was not warm enough. We went to bed around 11:30 and to our surprise our room was filled with bugs. At first, we thought they would not bother us but they flew into our mouths and landed on our body while sleeping so I kept the light on in the bathroom. This helped the problem somewhat but it was difficult to sleep with the light. In addition, there were several cobwebs in the room with spiders. Spiders build nests where there are bugs so this seems to be an issue in this room. In addition, it was hot in the room so we kept the fan on but this caused another issue - the fan kept making constant noises; keeping us awake all night. Due to the bugs and the noisy fan, it was not a tranquil night and we slept very little. In the morning, I noticed that the screens on the windows had gaps between them and the window pane, and I believe this is why there were so many bugs in the room as evident in the picture. The management told me that they are aware of these gaps. It is due to the expansion and contraction of the wood. Okay, so why isn't there a solution since we are paying so much money to stay there? A simple solution is to seal the gaps with the following: Scotch 1.88 in. x 54.6 yds. Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape (3-Pack). Thus, I recommend visiting Home Depot and buy the tape if you plan to stay there so you will avoid a sleepless night. In addition, check the fan when visiting your room for the first time and request a new room if it makes noise. We never got to enjoy any of the amenities since we were so tired.
