My fiance and I were very impressed with him. He told us all about the history of the restaurant and convinced us to come back on Piano nights Friday and Saturday. We had a wonderful dinner at White Pillars during our Biloxi trip. The meal started with a complimentary bite from the kitchen, followed by the Gulf Seafood Tower with oysters, ceviche, shrimp, and other fresh seafood. Everything was incredibly fresh and tasty! I ordered the swordfish over black rice, which was cooked perfectly. Finished with the chocolate cake and a Grasshopper cocktail, and both were delicious. All went well. I will leave a critique to just reinforce a couple of things... We had a great meal and tried some new menu items. Guy's Grocery Games gave us our inspiration to eat here because we were intrigued with the Chef's skills and flavor palette. First of all, I knew our waiter Robert personally from a previous job I worked in Biloxi years ago. He was fantastic and took good care of us without being over-attentive as some can be or ignorant of our drink situation as many prove to be once dinner is served. Remember to TIP your waiter accordingly. We were seated in the Bar area next to the piano and the musician. Although the music was great, it was a bit louder than I anticipated but it was a short-notice reservation change and I accept it. I was on an oyster pilgrimage from Atlanta, heading straight to White Pillars to eat at Chef Austin Sumrall's table. I had a mission, and it began with a name I trust: French Hermit Oysters. I knew they'd be on the menu. And when you know what you're after, you don't make detours. White Pillars is a place of intention. It's housed in a grand old building, but the soul of the restaurant lives in the kitchen. Every oyster was handpicked. I recognized some friends -- Murder Points, Little Honeys, and the French Hermits themselves. These are the oysters that tell you where you are. I like to eat early. 5:30 at the bar. Nobody around yet, just the sound of glassware being polished and staff hitting stride. They were sharp. Every single person -- hostesses, bartenders, servers. You can tell when a team does a proper pre-service. These folks did. Let's talk about what I ate, because this menu is serious. I started with the Isle Dauphin oysters from Dauphin Island. Auburn Univeristy's Shellfish Lab is out there, so I knew they'd be raised right. And they were. But it was the French Hermits that knocked me flat. Clean, briny, defintely as fresh as you will ever have. You don't dress up oysters like that. You just enjoy! Next came the steak tartare served in bone marrow with a cured duck yolk. That's a sentence that should make any French food lover pause, well and drool... It was rich and smooth, with that unctuous heat that marrow brings. One of the best bites I've had all year. Then came the Korean pork belly. It had a crisp top and a soft, rendered interior that melted like good butter. The cilantro lime slaw gave it brightness. People don't give cabbage enough credit. Use it every time you can. It's a workhorse. But the sleeper dish? African Pompano Carpaccio. I wasn't expecting it. It came thinly sliced with a crème fraîche aioli that caught me off guard in the best way. It was delicate, cold, sharp, perfect. If I lived closer, I'd ask for that every week, no strike that, every day! They could swap the fish seasonally -- just keep the rest of the dish as is. That's a 10 out of 10 plate. If you disagree... "Here's your sign". Now, the Crab Rangoon Ravioli -- this was local magic. One of the bartenders told me about Biloxi's Vietnamese population and their influence on the city's seafood. The dish is a love letter to that history. Turmeric pasta, coconut-Parmesan broth, crispy jalapeños, and fresh cilantro. Spicy, rich, bright. A bit of heat, but not too much. Okay -- that's a lie. It had heat in those cripsy jalepenos. Good heat. A good burn as they say. They served bread with whipped pork fat -- house-rendered, seasoned, finished with honey or herbs or a salt blend that reminded me of Old Bay but better. Bread like that doesn't need a write-up. It just needs to be eaten. This was as "nose to tail" as you can get. No Lie. I ended with a peach cobbler. I'm from Atlanta. I didn't have a choice. It was familiar, not flashy, but executed perfectly. A whiskey pairing wrapped it up, thanks to the bartenders who clearly knew their stuff and enjoyed sharing it. White Pillars isn't just a good Southern restaurant. It's a restaurant that understands what Southern food can be -- elegant, inventive, deeply rooted in place and season. This is one of the nicest looking restaurants in the area inside and out. They have an AMAZING bar that is HUGE. The chef/owner is actually a cousin of mine I had never met before. The dining experience started out rather odd as the server went over the menu VERY fast to the point it just wasn't really understandable. The other very disconcerting issue was that they had some really AWFUL music playing which really took away from the ambiance. The food had some issues for me as they serve your bread with pork fat instead of butter and they don't really tell you that is what you are being served... so since I don't eat pork that wasn't good for me. It was quite a pain to just get some plain old butter from the kitchen or I would have even been happy with some beef tallow, duck fat or goose fat. For my main course I got the steak burger which was a very nice burger. My dining companion got the mahi mahi which was also quite nice. We both got the chocolate torte for dessert which was a delicious finish to the meal and the best part of the dining experience. If pig fat instead of butter doesn't bother you then this would be an enjoyable experience for most folks. I would like to return to sample more of the menu but the pig fat instead of butter deal ruins it quite a bit for me and my dining companion simply refuses to ever return due to that one issue. read more

We had mentioned in advance that we were celebrating a birthday, and they went the extra mile by printing Happy Birthday on the menus, which was such a thoughtful and memorable touch. Our server, Brady, was one of the best servers I've ever had. She expertly guided us through the menu and absolutely nailed every recommendation. I can confidently say that The White Pillars is the best restaurant I've visited in the area. From the moment I arrived, Ebony made the experience exceptional. She was detail-oriented, accommodating, and genuinely delightful throughout the evening. Her attentiveness made my visit feel both memorable and incredibly comfortable. I ordered two of each of the oysters they were serving, along with the duck fat fries, and both were unforgettable. The fries, in particular, were some of the best I've had in a long time--perfectly crisp and flavorful. Even the ketchup was outstanding (yes, the ketchup!)--I wish I could keep a bottle of it stocked in my own kitchen. As for drinks, I had the best cognac Negroni I've ever experienced, crafted by Dylan. It was beautifully balanced and expertly composed--truly a spectacular cocktail I won't soon forget. Impressed, I asked him to make my espresso martini as well. Once again, he delivered a perfectly balanced drink that took me by surprise and served as the ideal finale to the evening. What a beautiful experience! We arrived a little bit early for our reservation so we waited in the bar and I had one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. When our table was ready we were seated near the window which lets you see the kitchen. Having a restaurant background, I enjoyed that. Our server was just wonderful, warm and cheerful. Just a fantastic experience. We had Thanksgiving dinner here, and while nothing matches a home-cooked Thanksgiving, this was a good second option. Our server was so helpful and kind, and offered great suggestions. This place is farm-to-table, and you could tell. Everything was crafted with care, and there was a great attention to detail. I had the "crab rangoon" ravioli for an appetizer, and it was DIVINE. Seriously, I wanted to drink the sauce (don't worry, I restrained myself). It was so interesting to have a Thai-style broth appetizer for Thanksgiving, haha. I wish this would have been my entree, honestly. I could have eaten double the amount. I had the duck confit for my entree, and it was very well-made, but it just wasn't my favorite preparation of duck I've ever had with the sauces chosen. My dessert was a satsuma flourless chocolate cake, which was good, but I am not the hugest fan of orange/chocolate combos. I should have known better, but I have never turned down a flourless chocolate cake in my life. The pear galette that other family members had was far better (despite my normal aversion to fruit desserts). The only drawback is that since we were such a large party, the dinner service took a very long time, and we had to ask for a few items that they forgot to bring. We were also a bit cold sitting by the windows on a chilly night. That said, it was a wonderful experience overall and I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

We needed to wait a few weeks to leave this review, it was so disappointing. Thanksgiving seemed a perfect time to visit this beautiful location with family from out of town and country. Reservations were easy and we were seated quickly but after that it was all regrettable mistake. Our order was taken quickly but rudeness was given due to an allergy and said I'll let chef know but he won't be happy. Our appetizers arrived quickly and then we just sat for over 45 mins. while chef and staff did shots at the bar. Our food finally arrived with one order cooked incorrectly, huge inconsistency in portions and no sides that we had ordered (they did offer to fix mistakes but we had sat for so long we decided to just take what we got). Chef did come to our table to say sorry after our meal, but when we mentioned our concerns we were told "maybe I should just close" as he walked away. I feel perhaps the drinking for the previous 45 mins did not help him. The coast has so many great restaurants, we would suggest going anywhere else read more

This is my second time at White Pillars and I wanted to give a solid 4 stars, but unfortunately I couldn't get there. Let's talk about the positives first: The ambiance was lovely, our server Michael really turned it around for us after having a terrible experience waiting for a table. He was attentive and kind. The food was great also, from what's pictured below our tables favorite was the brussel sprouts. Our steak was perfectly cooked and flavorful, no complaints there. I had a dinner reservation for 7:30 for 2 and arrived at 7:15, at that point in time the hostess had approached us and told us they are cleaning our table and it will be 5 minutes. Ok with me, well, 15, 20 minutes passed by and we haven't been sat. At this time it's 7:40, we asked again, what was going on in the table. She noted that we are still waiting for the main dining area to be available, my thought okay so we can sit at the bar (as there were free spots also). We waited at the bar for approximately 15 minutes and then she said our table was ready, but here I am still waiting for drinks. We had to wait for our drinks again to be sat. At this point in time it has been from 7:15 being told our table was ready to sitting down at 8. My expectations aren't to be sat immediately as I know it's a busy evening but please don't tell your guests 5 minutes when it ended up being 45 minutes. Hope this review will prompt some changes on accommodating guests and better timing of the flow. Sure, the food is good but I don't think waiting for a table for 45 minutes is the guest experience you're shooting for specifically if you're operating in a reservation basis on open table. read more

Tree was so kind to us! The only thing we didn't care for was the Mac n cheese. Drinks were delicious! I live on the coast and my grilled amberjack was one of the best fish dish I've ever eaten. So layered with flavor. My husband's piccata was fantastic as well. The filling of the ravioli was like a cloud. The depth of flavor packed into each bite of the tomato bread was simply astonishing. Very disappointing!! We read the menu when we booked our reservation. The menu we received was nothing like the one we had seen on the website. Most people check the menu online to see if it pleasing to them. When we read the menu at our table; nothing seemed to catch our eye! We were going to leave after our cocktail! But we stuck it out. Boy, what a mistake. The salad was supposed to have Green Goddess salad dressing. The dressing was water-downed something, with hardly any flavor. The Swordfish was breaded with something the size of B.B's. Again-tasteless and dry. Could have been any kind of fish. If you had a salad and fish taste-test, I'll bet no-one could tell what kind of dressing or fish they were eating if they were blind folded. We really looked forward to our dinner. Please look up the definition of Green Goddess salad dressing and let me know what it taste like. I looked up the definition and what we had was not even close to anything! Surrounded by a sea of mediocre casino places, White Pillars is a GEM! We dipped in on a Saturday night around 8 just for a drink. We decided to sit at the bar. There were people but it wasn't packed at all. The bar is beautiful. A great vibe. That's true of the whole restaurant. Husband had the sazerac. The bartender said they make the best (bartenders always say that), but this truly was the best I'd ever had (and I'm proud to say my drinking resume is quite extensive ). Husband also had a mint julep that he loved. I had 2 craft cocktails - one the campfire something, which was a scotch cocktail. It was great!! Also, it comes with a homemade marshmallow, and idk where that thing had been all my life but it was phenom! I wish they just sold them by the bowl. I also had another smoky drink. Also wonderful! Truly a great bar program here. If you're looking for great classic and inventive craft cocktails in Biloxi, this is your place. We ultimately decided to have dinner. We had the mushroom flatbread, Mac and cheese, and derby pie. Everything was AMAZING!! The mushroom flatbread was a good size even for an entree if you aren't famished. The Mac and cheese was out of this world. It's garnished with fried chicken skin, so it's basically a heart attack in a bowl. But man was it tasty. The derby pie was recommended. It's definitely shareable and is cooked in a cast iron skillet. It was very good. Overall, Im a huge fan. If I lived here, I'd be a regular. It's a highlight of our trip. I can't rave enough about this beautiful place! We hosted a baby shower there on a Sunday recently. We had 34 people, with 3 servers assigned and those kids were fabulous! No one ever had an empty glass for more than a moment, Chef Sumrall prepared amazing food and my daughter was treated like the most important VIP to ever visit there. All of this and since this mom picked up the tab I'm also very thankful we got a great special menu with 2 courses and amazing dessert choices for a very fair price. Ok let's start with Anthony!! His service and knowledge were top notch mixed with a friendly accommodating personality that I wish all service industry members had! We knew exactly what we were getting and more. He was highly recommended and I know why now. Now our meals.... From start to finish, this fine dining farm to table experience was superb. My Only complaint was i couldn't finish my meal but no worries it wasn't wasted. We started off with a salad and steak tartar that the 4 of us shared and they were Devine. Then onto dinner. Two of us had the smoked fried chicken on top of creamy grits and collards which were an all out southern decadent dish!! The Mahi mahi dish had by the other two at table was raved upon as well and I'm sorry I didn't snag a taste. Maybe next trip. We finished off the meal with a chocolate flourless cake that was a hit. I am a massive food/restaurant lover and also a private chef in Los Angeles and this restaurant impressed me so much. The balance achieved in each dish is RARE. The consistency throughout the menu is also rare. The ambiance and ingredients used are the best of Mississippi, a way to highlight all the things we love (grew up there) but don't often see on display. I tried half the menu and I really don't think you can go wrong although highlights were the hot oysters, oyster pie, collard greens, and the duck fat fries. Also love that there's a seafood tower for under $50 because I love chilled seafood to start a meal but don't always want to go in on a huge tower for $150. I feel like this menu is made for a great night where you feel good walking away. Nothing is too heavy, portions are great, add-ons are easy. I hope everyone thinks of this place to support so that it can flourish because I feel like they're only going to get better from here. All the food was satisfying and delightful but dishes they've developed that are their showstoppers, I think they're going to keep adding on more like that with all of this chef's talent that will make this even more of a can't miss place. Even though the food is being prepared by what looks like a dozen chefs back there who are doing absolutely nothing... Was not too bad... I truly believe that menus need to be seasonal and White pillars could've gotten five stars. If only they just reinvent the menu according to the season and what is locally available according to that specific season... Seafood, of course being the center point to any restaurant menu in this vicinity... You can see there is Drive in the kitchen. Perhaps the staff needs to have competitions once a week for who can come up with the quickest most delicious dish to put on the menu. This restaurant is easy to spot on the main Beach Blvd in Biloxi casino town. Parking is very convenient since the restaurant has great parking lots. Reservation was made through Open Table and we were seated right away when we walked in. Service was just ok. Our waitress seemed sweet but lacked on explaining dishes on the menu. Food was good overall. We enjoyed it but the other couple didn't enjoy it too much. They thought it was too exotic for their taste since they prefer traditional style mostly. I wanted to give this restaurant a knock-out-review but the food really fell flat. As far as cocktails, it is a 10/10. Artisan old fashions with the right flare and espresso martinis to die for. The ambiance is also reminiscent of a 1920s lounge, complete with bartenders in suspenders, bow ties, and a very talented piano player. The only reason I cannot give this place a 5 is because of the food. By the menu description, the food sounds divine but just is not good - despite being farm to table. The best part of our meals was the appetizer. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel - it was over fried, over a huge mound of cabbage, and very little dill schnitzel. The taste was bland and I hoped for more schnitzel. The chicken "specials" dish was also nothing too special. And my husband declared that he wanted our home decorated like the inside of the restaurant (very "New Orleans" with a rich, decadent sort of feel). everything is farm to table, so the food is Fresh and delicious. We had raw oysters (salty birds which were tiny, but salty and clean), deviled eggs (The crispy garnish was everything), shrimp and grits (my husband said it was the best he's ever eaten), eggplant (soooo good), and corn ice cream (one of my favorites!
