A little helper helped make this visit great. Aside from visiting coffeehouses, Emily and I like to hit up local breweries for a drink or two. After some shenanigans all day, we needed a few beers before heading back home for the night. We dropped in right after open and there were already a few patrons inside. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and then took our beers outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather. We initially sat at one of the round tables but Emily wanted to break out my pub kit (its a little container I keep in my car full of card and dice games), so we hopped on over to a picnic table. We played some Uno while sipping beers and talking about nothing. I got a hazy IPA called Little Helper and Em got a blonde called Holla Atcha. We both sampled each other beers and while I liked hers, Em loved mine. So much so that for our second beer, she got the Little Helper. I decided to get the Cannonball Comin' since it was another hazy IPA. While it was really good, we both gave Little Helper the edge on being tastier and hitting that sweet spot on a gorgeous day. Before we left, we hit up the merch stand. They had plenty of shirts, hats, stickers, magnets and various other things. I wasn't feeling any of their shirts but did get a sticker and magnet. Emily got herself a sticker that was Grateful Dead-themed. As we were slowly wrapping up our visit, the place started picking up and getting busy. This location was a bit removed from everything. It reminded me a bit of Evergreen Farm Brewing in that it was quiet and sitting outside was very enjoyable. White Oak was a great stop and a great way to end a day in Bloomington. I'll definitely be back for some more beer and maybe a shirt (or more stickers and magnets). Stay frosty! read more

Hidden brewery in Normal that takes an effort finding. It has a pretty strange location in an industrial area, so not the best atmosphere outside, but it's good inside. White Oak has a pretty limited but good list of beers on tap. Also has a nice patio and you can bring dogs. There's no food but you can bring in some from outside. Beer is the main thing of course. It's actually the only thing on the menu. The tap list is pretty limited but it's full of good stuff. It's about $6 a pint. They're really good about giving samples. I had the Holla Atcha. It's a blonde ale with a light alcohol content. This is clean and smooth. All the others we had were also good. These have some funny names. Also you can get to go cans. This helps overcome how the tap list is limited. Crappy location is about the worst thing about it. It could also be said a complaint is there's no food. They however will let you bring in something from outside and sometimes there might be food trucks. read more

I had a great time here. Came on a Friday and it was busy but still has plenty of places to sit. I brought our dog and it was a very dog friendly establishment. The beer is good although they only had around 5-7 beers to chose from. The staff was friendly. Would recommend! So put down that Busch light and step up. -The tap room isn't massive, because it's a tap ROOM not a tap restaurant so keep that in mind with the size of your squad. - Brilliant: Coat/purse racks under the bar AND... wait for it.... outlets. Yep you can charge your smartphone addiction while you sip awesomeness. - Super uber reasonably priced draft flights and full size drafts. Options change often, with four beers in a flight from a list of 7-8 options. - Everyone who works there wants to be there and it shows. Smiles. Advice on flight selection. This place is awesome! If you're looking for the classic brewery feel with awesome bartenders, White Oak is your stop. I travel from Chicagoland down here once a month for work and it is my first stop now. Beer is great and constantly rotating and never seems to disappoint. The bartender with the beard and long curly hair is the best, very attentive and consistently making great recommendations. Merch is awesome and the to-go variety combats that of a giant brewery (cough cough Destihl). The flight is great because you can custom pick a few of your choices and sample the unique things that they are doing. If they are trying to be the Wiener Circle of Bloomington-Normal breweries they are succeeding. I waited a good ten minutes by the bar for an employee to finally acknowledge me. I have no problem waiting my turn, but it became painfully clear he intended to serve anyone at the bar but me. Message received...you don't want me as a patron. No worries, I won't be back. This specific situation just now (9/20/19 ~9:45pm) happened so this review should illustrate just how "drunk" I am. My husband and I have been to this establishment many times and have loved it. We have even raved about this place to our domestic beer-loving friends encouraging them to try local craft beers. We came here tonight to celebrate after dinner drinks for our wedding anniversary. We had not had a singular drink prior to arrival. As we stepped out of the car, my husband wanted to walk through the grass and I did not..so we were laughing as we walked in because the situation mirrored our personalities. Anyways...we each had one drink. We were going to have one more before we left and the bartender refused to serve us because he stated that the owners said we "stumbled in drunk". We were not drunk, disruptive, slurring our speech, or incoherent on any level. This was humiliating and extremely disappointing. We will not be returning. We love to support local businesses but will no longer recommend or support a business that treats customers this way--- especially sober customers coming in to enjoy a rare date night out after a long work week (we are both working professionals in the community with 5 kids). Very sad and disappointing. I hope that the owners read this and maybe approach the customers themselves versus making wrongful assumptions or having the bartender loudly state such inaccurate information. Again... just humiliating. Sadly, the owners confused a couple laughing and enjoying their evening with intoxication without investigating the situation. Shame on you White Oak Brewery. Ironically enough....when we were in the establishment a month ago, the bartender was drinking beer slushies behind the bar, so the whole ordeal we experienced is very sad when you think about it. I guess my warning to future customers is to make sure you don't laugh or smile too much while walking in...you could be refused service when you are 100% sober. read more

Just picked up the new hazy called Ground Score. I don't say this lightly, but this is one of the best hazy beers I've had from anywhere. Outstanding job - the hazy beers just keep getting better from White Oak. read more

Always have enjoyed White Oaks beers. Never got around going to the taproom but have the past couple weekends. Though not a big taproom the environment and staff are very friendly. Good beer in a smallish taproom. Typical microbrewery decor with snack options but no kitchen. Try Res Ipsa Loquitur (IPA) and Ex Post Facto (stout) as they're solid and usually available. Staff is down to earth and very helpful. Bombers to go. read more
