Four large stainless steel fermentation tanks are aligned against a green brick wall in a brewery setting. The tanks are equipped with valves and gauges, and are illuminated by three black pendant lights. In front of the tanks, there is a bar counter with three brown leather chairs. To the right, a display shelf holds snacks and a menu, indicating a brewery or taproom environment.

Don't over analyze this blog post. Until a rather fun trip to Evergreen Farm Brewing, I had never heard of Analytical Brewing or Lexington, IL for that matter. Emily saw a shirt for the brewery at Evergreen and we made plans to go there at our earliest convenience. We strolled in with an empty belly and a hankering for a few beers. We brought food from the next door ice cream shack called The Shake Shack and the bartender said it was perfectly fine to eat it inside. I grabbed a beer called 40 Horse Limit and Emily got the Aronia Berry Shandy. We grabbed a table near the front of the brewery and got to work on our sandwiches and drink. The building that houses Analytical may have been a prior oil change place or automotive place? We sat by a large bay door that looks like it opens up on nice weather days. Or maybe that's just something they built into the brewery. Either way, I bet it's nice to sit in the brewery and sip beers with it open. The brewery itself is small. It feels more like your standard bar in size but they obviously make their own beers (while offering some fun non-alcoholic drinks as well). The beer I got was pretty dang tasty. Blondes are my usual go-to if a place doesn't have a german/belgain-style or wheat beer on hand. I strongly debated getting a 4-pack to go but talked myself out of it. I tried a sip of Emily's shandy and it wasn't too bad. Not my cup of beer, but I could see why she liked it. After we ate our food, we sat there and play some Uno that we bought on the way there. They had a ton of board games to pick from and we ended up grabbing the tic-tac-toe and Connect 4 to play after Uno. I love when bars, breweries, coffeehouses, etc have board games to play. We hung out here for about an hour and a half. In that time, we were about the only people there (aside from a couple that was already there when we arrived). By the time we polished off our second beer and decided to leave, they were setting up for trivia night and people started to slowly pour in. Analytical Brewing is really neat and nice brewery in the heart of a small town with not much to do. And its close enough to Bloomington/Normal that it doesn't feel like a chore to go out of your way to stop in. Hopefully the town supports the business and they will be slinging beers for a long time to come.

The team at Analytical are doing some pretty damn good work. My normal negative opinion on sours couldn't apply to their Crumble sour--in fact, it was my favorite beer I had there. Their spot has plenty of seating inside and out. if you choose to go outside, you got bags and are next to an ice cream shop in case you want food! Great spot. Worth the 15 minute drive from Normal. Worth a quick stop!

Puckering Experience - A pink-colored drink is presented in a stemmed glass with a scientific or atomic symbol printed on the front. The glass is placed on a light-colored surface, and the background appears to be a bar or restaurant setting with various objects and equipment visible. The drink is filled close to the top of the glass.

Enjoyed a delicious sour beer - the puckering experience with my family on Black Friday today. There was just enough room at the bar for all of us.

a view of the outside of the building - The image depicts the exterior of Analytical Brewing, a small-town brewery, with a metal-sided building, large windows, and a circular sign displaying the brewery's logo. The sidewalk in front has potted plants and benches, with a street and traffic visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Really neat space, very nicely done! They have 10 draft taps. We shared a quick flight with Dog Days Shandy being my favorite. It wasn't overly fruity, very subtle, and low hoppiness. They are on the Untapped beer app. Check them out!!

Kemp's is probably the best place to go eat in town it seems. A good reason is because there's not much else. The food is pretty average but there's some good things for adults and families. Chill atmosphere even at times when it's crowded. It's located in the middle of downtown or whatever you call it. There's not a whole lot else to go to for a meal. Certainly explains why it gets busy. People only have a few choices and this is one of these. It's about $6 for a basic cocktail. Whole lot of great stuff including whiskey. It's about $5 to get appetizers. We got the Chips And Salsa. Has a lot of greasy fried things like wings and other meats. The menu is pretty standard as far as fried stuff. Has a lot of the basics. It's closed Sundays. That's pretty strange for them to lose out on all that revenue on weekends.

The staff here was fabulous with a special shout-out to John. What I found particularly impressive was the amazing selection of craft brews for a small town. The staff was particularly knowledgeable about both the selection and even the breweries that supplied them! I even found some of my favorite and uncommon Chicagoland brews, although I selected some excellent brews from the Bloomington/Normal area. ( Drink local!) Food was wonderful and quickly delivered. I gave five stars on food because it is top quality relative to pubs in general. The Blue Cheese burger was great. I sampled the butterflied pork chop sandwich of the other meal we had and that was a standout! Ambiance is nice as if fitting a local pub in an older downtown building. One notable feature is the walls and ceiling are covered in banners and flags of various kinds which dramatically limits the amount of background noise that would normally be in such a building. There is also a nice outdoor beer garden. This local establishment is well worth the extra minutes off Interstate 55. Also highly recommended to cycling who travel out to the northeast terminus of the trail!

Emancipation is a brewery not a lot of people have heard of because it's not close to anything of course. Has a surprising amount of variety on tap and in cans to go. They may not have a whole lot but everything is full of flavor and quenches one's thirst. Even with it being a smaller brewery it still has quite a lot. It's got several of their own beers on tap along with a few others. There's also more cans in a refrigerator. Has the basics along with a few interesting ones. More than just the IPAs and the usual. It's about $7 a pint. The Farmer's Favorite is the IPA and is a pretty good medium one that's crisp and smooth. Has a few things to snack on here. It's about $3 for the Krack Mix. Basically like Chex Mix but it's made locally. They also will let you bring in stuff. Great place that's pretty hard to find the first time going here. It's located on N. 2500 East Rd. a few miles north of Fairbury surrounded by corn fields pretty much. They're closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Surprise Standout Culinary Chronicles' sleeper hit is the maple mayo dip, a sweet-smoky companion to crispy sweet potato fries. My husband each got our own flights (see pictured). There was not a bad beer and there were several more we would have loved to try. We ended up getting a 4 pack of the Hokey Jeans because the Malo was sold out.
