I don't usually review places but this deserves it. Mugsys has the best wings so I thought their sandwiches would be as awesome. I was ever so wrong. My favorite hot sandwich is a Patty Melt on Rye. The meat was bland, completely unseasoned. I ate half of it because I was hungry and didn't want to completely waste my money. Too bad. Won't be ordering that anymore. read more

I was craving wings while visiting some friends in Bloomington. I was told Mugsys was the place and they were not wrong. I ordered 18 boneless 6 - intense (hottest of the Buffalo), 6 -tropic thunder (spicy pineapple) and 6 blazing bourbon. The Intense KICKED MY ASS, as a seasoned spicy wings veteran I was astounded by this. I've done the blazing challenge, hot ones Apollo and last dab. These wings were right up there with those legends, HOWEVER these have unmatched flavor. They are painful but they will keep you coming back for more. After a while of back and forth deciding what to eat, we landed on Mugsys. They had some pretty great reviews on their wings and decided to try. Called and placed a pick up order about an hour to close. Ordered my wings and went to order more but was told my total and was hung up on. That's cool, I didn't want fries anyway. The website is very straight to the point, they make everything pretty clear. We went with a 10pc wing and was allowed to choose 2 flavors. They had lots of flavor options of homade sauces. I went with tropic thunder and garlic parm, and a side of the homemade ranch. It's was about $15 for wings only. The tropic thunder sauce was really good, little heat and like nothing I've had before. The garlic parm was also very good, very garlicky and had fresh parm grated on top. Only issue is they are NOT full wings. A full wing is the flat and drum attached. These are broken in half and counted as one wing. Very good but a little disappointed about the size of the "wing". All in all, I would be happy to try them again some time! read more

This place doesn't deserve any of the hate it gets. It's a dive bar through and through. If that's not your scene don't go, and definitely don't dump on this fine local establishment. Pretty disappointed in this establishment right now. Manager and staff allowed over-served regular to harass my friends while they were trying to enjoy the nice weather and eat on their patio this last weekend. Harasser was allowed to sit at a table that was not his own and definitely not invited to join and then aggressively engage in unwanted interaction. Not only was he not asked to leave, but also seems to have been given preferential treatment as he was drinking with the manager. This is especially unacceptable given the current circumstances. My rating is based on what I ordered. I would stop again and try something different. Stopped here for a late lunch on a recent road trip. I didn't want a big burger so did not opt for the 1/3# angus burger. The mugger burger that I ate was like a hockey puck. Good bun but overcooked to a fault. My side salad was old iceberg lettuce, I picked out the bad pieces. Service was good. Heard other people ordering wings which might have been a good choice. What I ordered was a disappointment, would try Mugsy's again. read more

My sister ordered wings from these guys, and she got the wrong item. She was not asked if she'd wanted them boneless or not. She ordered around 16 wings, and all were boneless. She got that 18 piece wing special. I sent them a Facebook message, and they have not responded to me. My brother turned me on to these wings and I can't stop eating them. It's not jus the wings, it's the sauces that are INCREDIBLE. They have the best Parmesan garlic wings ever- THEY USE REAL CHEESE. Their honey BBQ taste is hauntingly good, but has a weird ginger taste to it- pretty good. The hot and spicy sauce is weirdly good and smells spicy. It had been such a long time since I spent any time at this place that it had honestly fallen off my radar. Time to put it back on as they have added a dozen or so craft beers and another dozen or so large plasma TVs, still have some of the best wings in town along with a stable of quality pub fare, and have some enticing food and drink specials thoughout the week. Not sure what nights are dart league, but there is no shortage of boards, as well as an electronic gaming section along the back wall. We've been looking for a place to host our fantasy football league Christmas party and this place looks like it will definitely fit the bill with the Sunday NFL package, a table reserved for us, good beer selection and an investment in some wings for our large party. I hear some of their staff recently split away and opened Doc Mckays on the east side, but the split seems to have reinvigorated the old spot. Its still dominated by domestic drinking regulars, but now offer lots more for the casual visitor too! With a solid 3 1/2 stars, count us among them going forward! read more

I'm pretty sure they put some sort of addictive drugs in their wings, because I can't stop coming back here. There's something about the crispy skin beneath the saucy wings that is unlike other wings in town. It's a completely different place from what you're used to, if what you're used to is BWW. Mugsy's wings taste much more like actual chicken. Their burgers are also decent, but it's the wings that will surprisingly make you return. Try the volcanic if you don't mind spicy, or the lemon pepper if you're down for a surprise (they're really great!). The atmosphere is that of your basic divey bar/pub on the inside, but they do have an outdoor patio that I like to sit on when I come and eat in. They have beer on tap with specials-- including a nice stout if you're like me and like craft beer. The stout goes well with any of their wings. read more

It used to be that Mugsy's had the best wings in town, hands-down. They would be moist, flavorful, and piping hot, with great seasonings and just, well, perfect. The last few times we've ordered wings, they've been the opposite. Warm but not hot, dry, and not much flavor. Greasy, and just, well, stomach-turning. I'm currently dealing with a sour stomach to end all, hoping that's as bad as it gets. I don't know what happened, Mugsy's. I ordered a small order of hot wings, fries, a steak sandwich and a brownie. The hot wings barely registered as hot, the blue cheese dipping sauce was runny. The steak sandwich that I ordered as medium rare arrived gray AF. The bun that they put it between was soggy and the onions smelled terrible. The celery that was packaged with the blue cheese was the only edible thing that arrived. I called to complain and ask for a refund or a credit and they shrugged it off. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. This was the worst money I've ever spent, this town has virtually no good restaurants, but Mugsys is the least of them. read more

This place is a dive bar with cheap food. We drove around trying to find a place to eat in this dump of a town and finally gave up and said lets just go here and get a burger, how bad can it be? Walked into this dark and dirty place and stood there for quite a while just for them to tell us to seat ourselves, then we waited again with no menus. No Coke, No Pepsi just RC Cola. I ordered a burger and chips. I got a thin little burger and they just dumped a few Ruffles chips right out of the bag onto my plate. read more

It's amazing that Mugsy's has remained a towny bar despite the fact that it is essentially on the Illinois Wesleyan campus. Mugsy's has some of the best servers in town but the only draft beer they serve are Miller Lite and Bud. $7 pitchers and $1.50 glasses. There's never anything very special about any of the specials with one exception: they have a great Happy Hour special until 6:30 PM Mon-Fri. You have to buy food to get the $1 draft beers but they offer 75 cent (is there even a cent symbol on keyboards?) "sliders and fries." The "sliders" are actually quite good - just small burgers but you literally only get about 4 fries. This was an incredibly smoky bar until the smoking ban took effect. Now - not so bad. I must say that this is one place that I frequent much more often now that it's non-smoking, which I find funny because the owner fiercely opposed the smoking ban. As for food, you'll find your standard pub fare. The burgers are good (except that they call them Hammugger - like a play on Mugsy's. I hate that.) and the pork tenderloin will satisfy. I would also recommend the "cheese balls" (deep-fried cheddar cheese squares) for an appetizer. There aren't many large seating areas so you may not want to come here with a crowd - not if you want to sit with them at least. read more

I had Mugsy's for the first time this weekend after at least a 10-year interlude. I ate there all the time when I went to IWU, but pretty much stopped after graduation. It was raining last night, and there was football on. My wife and I didn't want to leave the house, because of all that and because our kids weren't behaving all that well. The problem was, we didn't want Chinese, pizza, or pasta - which makes up basically every delivery place. So I brought up Mugsy's. She laughed it off at first, but 5 minutes later it was still the best option, so we dove in and gave it a shot. We didn't have their famous wings, but I gotta tell you - I was really impressed with their double cheesemuggers. The fries didn't hold up quite as well from the delivery experience (still edible, just mushy), but the burger was simply great. My wife loved hers, too, and my kids enjoyed their grilled cheeses. (Man, was I surprised to learn Mugsy's had a kids' menu. Who knew?) So anyway, yeah. Mugsy's. It's good, and they will bring a cheeseburger to your door. read more
