The sandwich was good, nothing special, but the lobster dip was amazing. It was so good that I went back again on Sunday before I drove back to Chicago to have another serving of it. And since I was there by myself that time, it was a large enough portion that I could take half home to enjoy a couple days later. In addition to the dip being creamy and cheesy and perfect, the chips that come with it are made out of wontons, and were outstanding. I can't wait to go back again when I'm in the area next spring and have it again. During my visit on Sunday, I also added a spiked milkshake, the one with Makers Mark and salted caramel. My server apparently is known at the restaurant for making the best shakes, and as you can see from the picture, he did not disappoint! It was also amazing. I'm not usually a milkshake person, but it sounded good that day, and was the perfect way to top off a wonderful weekend.

We don't drink so I can't comment on the alcohol selection. The best part of this place is the huge screens (projectors) and the atmosphere. Once the game started, they switched it on just about every screen in the house and turned up the audio. After an intense ending to the game, the Blackhawks pulled out the victory and the place went nuts. They blasted Chelsea's Dagger and everyone sang along. The only issue that we had is that it was crazy hot in there. I'm not sure if they don't have air conditioning or if it was just broken, but it was a bit toasty. They did try to bring out some fans but it didn't help much. (maybe it's just a way to get you to buy more drinks??) :) BTW, there is a parking garage about a block away which is free after 6pm. As with any bar they have a plethora of beers and liquor, although with this extremely small town bar, the options are surprising. A Springfield Illinois original consisting of a layer of toast, then hamburger patty, covered in french fries, and smothered in cheese.... Mmmmm. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since eating it! This is my first experience and I have no idea where else serves it in the central IL area. I've never had one from Springfield which is the horseshoe sandwich mecca of the world, but I am happy to support this local small town establishment's take. They have a lot of deep fried foods here including: pickle spears, mushrooms, cheese, jalapenos (called "bottle caps" that are super hot), peppers, et cetera. We each got the Black Bean Burger, which comes with guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream but I left off the last one. Also gets a choice of a side, so okay value for it. I got it with a salad. A lot of other meaty options available. They have tacos and the Impossible meat is an option. For sure it pretty much seems like Applebee's or some generic polished sports bar and grill but it's okay to be honest. It's located on Neil Street to the south of the campus stuff. There's meaty things as well as options for vegans and vegetarians.

We sat at a table in the general area by the pool table, but no servers ever came by so we moved over to the bar area. I was excited to see the "pour your own" feature on the wall, that was a cool thing. However, when asking our server what Fruit Sour beers they had, I was informed that they don't have IPA or "the like"...which was totally confusing given the beer machine on the wall that was all IPA and craft beers. Did she mean cans? Ehh I don't know. But I digress... Food was ok. The cheese curds were fantastic. We received a water in a dirty glass that had an old soda stain on the bottom - so that was gross. Burger was good but on the smaller side. Service was not good, though I suspect it was because they were severely understaffed. A bartender has no business serving tables with a retirement party going on and a non stop line at the bar. No one was helping her whatsoever and it had to of been overwhelming. Not to mention one of the employees kept walking by and wiping his nose with his hand/forearm so that was pretty gross. All in all, I hear locals really like this place but also that the service seems to be the consistent negative on it. I'd try it again for sure, but honestly, between the water glass/nose wiping and lack of appropriate staffing - that's usually my trifecta to avoid...so it would be a last choice for me.
