I've been going here for almost 2 years now and love the food and coffee, it's a stop my go to stop before a big day in the mountains to fuel up. The egg sandwiches are on point, and the cold brew provides the right caffeine fix for long days. If I wasn't always passing through I'd hangout here and do some work in the cafe and grab a book. Such a well curated book selection for such a small space! Staff is always friendly and courteous and the food and coffee selection is awesome. If you're not feeling well get a shot of fire cider! White Mountain Cafe is a lovely cafe in Gorham, NH. They offer baked goods, sandwiches, breakfast items, and coffee and tea drinks. I enjoy their egg sandwiches which you can customize with various veggies meats, and vegetarian meat-like items (their veggie sausage is yum!). They have good iced coffee and espresso drinks. I love the atmosphere which is cozy and the staff are always friendly. There is a cool bookstore in the cafe which offers books and also various WMC items such as coffee mugs and souvenirs. It is my go-to place for a pre hike breakfast since it opens early (7am) and is convenient to many White Mountain trailheads. read more

I don't typically give 2 stars. The location is convenient and ambiance is cozy. Staff very competent. View is nice and an easy spot w a baby/kids (we had an infant and had lots of room & used a high chair). I imagine for coffee drinks and pastries this is a top spot. We had lunch - the peak panini (turkey cheddar) and the special (roast beef panini). There was literally no seasoning and we've never encountered this much mayo on a sandwich before in our lives (had to scoop it off). Panini bread was dense and not crisp from the grilling. read more

After a particularly harrowing car experience coming home from Maine, we spent the night at a motel in Gorham. The next morning, this cafe was an oasis for our hungry family, with a variety of fresh breakfast sandwiches, good baked goods, an awesome coffee bar, and smoothie options galore. This cafe and bookstore was an awesome surprise. We were staying in Berlin and looking for road coffee. This is clearly a favorite of hikers on the Appalachian trail. The coffee is good and the menu is vegan/vegetarian friendly. I had a veggie sandwich with a veggie sausage on the side (it was breakfast) and really enjoyed it. The bookstore is small but thorough and has a lot of neat books about the local area. A stream flows behind the cafe and their are Adirondack chairs if you feel like just watching it. A chipmunk family claims the bank as their home and you might see one like we did! read more

My husband and I stopped here to grab breakfast one morning. We both had breakfast sandwiches on bagels. The sandwiches were mediocre, the egg had that rubbery instant egg feeling and taste to it. They have a wide selection of coffee and espresso drinks which was nice, and it looked like they had some tasty sandwiches to offer at lunchtime. I liked the atmosphere and it definitely seemed like a regular spot for residents of the town. The book store was interesting, it was small but had a wide range of books including a large children's section. I would come back here if I was staying in the area again. read more

We visited for breakfast. The coffee selections are interesting but the food at that time of the day is limited if you do not eat eggs! Quaint atmosphere with two small dining areas adjascent to a book store. Bathrooms are beyond the bookstore. It's a funky place trying to serve quasi-natural foods with laid-back servers. They seem to have a steady stream of loyal customers, I noted. The cafe is like the anti-McDonalds, which by the way is right next door. So it was fascinating watching the type of people eating here and across the parking lot next door (young hikers vs. old bikers). read more

White Mountain Cafe & Bookstore is a great find in the North Country! Outdoor photographer Jerry Monkman gave a talk here the other night so we traveled to Gorham for it. The talk was great and we were pleasantly surprised to find the White Mountain Cafe & Bookstore offered great food and what they tout as the area's best selection of books on the White Mountains. They also featured many intriguing local authors. (Excellent nature and kids books, and of course a wide selection of interesting cookbooks, too!). At the cafe counter, we found lots of tasty options for vegetarians, along with strong coffees and some pretty amazing deserts. I couldn't make up my mind between the Greek salad, carrot/ginger soup, or a pannini, so I ordered all 3--and enjoyed everything. We liked this place so much that we came back for breakfast and were delighted all over again! (tip - take lots of Molasses cookies for your hike!) Bonus - The cafe offers free wifi with purchase, which comes in handy for checking trails and getting the latest summit forecasts for hiking in the Whites. read more

My sister and I ended up at the White Mountain Cafe after attempting to check out the Moonbeam Cafe which was closed for some odd reason. It was early afternoon and after checking out the menu we thought that the cafe looked like a promising choice for a late breakfast/early lunch. My sister ordered a breakfast sandwich with tomato and avocado and I sprang for a panini with bacon, avocado, and cheddar. After what seemed like a 20 min wait we received our food and were extremely disappointed. The egg on my sisters sandwich was rubbery and hard making the dish very unappetizing but it got worse - the avocados they had placed on her sandwich and mine were completely black and brown. I'm talking no green in the avocado at all whatsoever. I'm no wimp when it comes to food and I realize that avocados oxidize and wont make you sick if they're a bit brown but all of the avocado they used on our sandwiches was so black and tasted terrible as a result. I really wish that whoever made our sandwiches had skipped the avocado altogether - how could you not realize that eating black, mushy, nasty tasting avocado is unappetizing to most anyone? The only redeeming factor here was the iced coffee which was pretty good. Bottom line: coffee was good, food was terrible read more

This is my first ever yelp review. I am literally making an account just to leave a poor Yelp review. I never thought I would be this person. Anyway: We went there once for lunch. We got a smoothie, a coffee, and two bagel sandwiches. The total was $22, which felt a little steep. We eat the bagel sandwiches. Eggs are flavorless and yucky, cheese is squares of boring flavorless cheese, and I have some vaguely tomato-y "Roasted Red Pepper Pesto" on mine while my partner has some sausage. Both were relatively flavorless and boring and the bagels were dry, starchy and chewy. The smoothies was a blend of fruit juice and ice. That's actually a slushie. Coffee was good. I have a feeling this place coasts by on how good their coffee is and how rare it is to find a place that will make several different iterations of a coffee drink in this part of New Hampshire. Anyway. Kind of deeply disappointed. We waited a long time for this food and it was pretty bland, pretty expensive and pretty awful. Here I should point out that I have a deep, deep, deep hatred of over-priced hippy-dippy little places that sell overpriced, subpar food. It gives a bad name to the solid ethics of eating organically, eating locally and eating sustainably. I am as organic, hippy-dippy, "check-out-my-bacon-it's-from-a-mile-down-the-road" as the next person, but more than I am that, I am a good food person. If you are going to have that kind of atmosphere, just hire people who give a damn about food. Otherwise, people who don't consider eating sustainably, locally and organically are going to get the incorrect impression that this food is bland and boring. Anyhoo. So we decide to swing back when we were hungry in the AM and needed breakfast sandwiches, fast. Again - a breakfast burrito, a egg sandwich on a croissant, a cup of coffee = $15. For these prices, I expect something of higher quality than I can get at McDonalds. Here's the really offensive bit: The person who made my breakfast burrito did not even take the time to roll it properly. Like, whatever. It's fine. Sometime I am hungover and I throw together a breakfast burrito that looks like a Picasso painting too. We are all in this world together, and sometimes rolling burritos is hard. But it's damn shitty to pay $8 for something in which the basic mechanics have not been mastered. If I had paid $5 for that, I swear, you would not see me bitching. The eggs were also flavorless, as was the cheese. There were way, way, way too many sliced, mealy, tomatoes. When I see a breakfast burrito that says "tomato", I assume a few little chunks of tomato mixed in with all the other breakfast burrito regular attendees. Not 4-5 damn layers of sliced mealy tomato whose girth surpassed that of the eggs. The spinach was the same way. I special ordered veggie sausage, and I think there was one-half-patty tucked away somewhere in there, but I didn't taste it. I hate being a bitch. I hate hating food. But if you are going to ask people to spend that money, make good food. Just hire someone who seems to vaguely give a damn, instead of the latest tweed wearing college graduate who spins a good yarn about eating local in their job interview and then slums it through the food-making while looking cute. The coffee was great and I'm sure that's why they develop their reputation. Their menu is eclectic. But for the love of Christ - just make sure the food tastes good. I get that you are trying, but I should not have gone there twice, exprienced a total of 7 different products, and walk away feeling like I am eating food made by a 7 year old. Have higher standards; you can be better than this. Bring better food to this region, please. read more

When we go on vacation we love to stop at local independent coffee shops. Iv'e worked in them for 15 years and some would say I'm a coffee snob. I like to say I recgonize someone who knows what they are doing and someone who doesn't. This place knows what they are doing! We stopped every morning that we stayed in Gorham. Hayden waited on us 2 of the 3 mornings and was so friendly and patient. We have a 3 1/2 year old so forming a thought can sometimes be a challenge. We did not get any food but the menu looked great. Unforntunetly I didn't realize they have gluten free sandwiches until our last day and we had already eaten. I will remember that for next time though. Its a very welcoming place, not stuffy or snobby like some chain coffee shops. One tip to the owners, advertise like crazy that you offer gluten free choices. I don't think travelers expect it so they don't look for it. I know that was my mind set anyway. Coming from CT staying in a vary small town you wouldn't think the demand would be big enough. You should get some kind of banner outside. I did see it on your chalk board outside but it was only on one side. Anyway, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place and will be back whenever we go back to the area.
