Delicious food in the cutest town. The location makes it a perfect place to pick up breakfast before a hike, or an end of day sandwich before driving home. This place is awesome because there is also a bookstore attached. I had a cliffhanger breakfast sandwich on a jalapeño bagel. It kept me full during a long bike ride. Coffee was pretty good. But the sign outside said there were books. Went inside for the first time, takes a minute to figure out the layout of the place. Found the cashier counter easy enough but where the heck are all the books? There was a tiny selection in the corner and there was no scifi, no philosophy, no history (unless you count journalist autobiography history). This little cafe was our breakfast stop before hiking the Wildcat ridge in the WMNF. We arrived at 9am on a Saturday and boy was it busy! The service was slow, but we couldn't be upset about it because the staff was just so so friendly and enthusiastic. We also couldn't help but wonder if they - like many businesses right now - are understaffed. The food itself was very yummy! We both got the same sandwich (see photo) and really enjoyed it. The one drawback is that they don't use fresh eggs. I'm not sure if they don't have a griddle or something (or maybe no room for that - their kitchen seems small), but for a local place I really think they should be using fresh eggs. Their attached bookstore was very cute to browse through and we enjoyed using the patio to eat our breakfast. Would definitely come back next time we are in Gorham - this place seems to be by far the best breakfast spot around here. read more

This little nook was AMAZING!! The bagel was extremely fresh and my maple latte was delicious. I also bought two treats for during and after my hike oh my goodness the deliciousness of my oatmeal raisin cookie with maple filling was the most amazing delight after a rough of hiking! The little bookstore has something for everyone, it was a fantastic little nook to grab a book or souvenir. As a vegetarian I would be remiss to leave out that they do have vegetarian and vegan options as well! I would HIGHLY recommend this to locals and anyone just stopping through!! If they offered shipping I would be ordering more of those cookie sandwiches ASAP!! read more

The breakfast sandwiches are soooo good! The coffee is good with lots of options to choose from. They Have pastries that are very good as well. The staff are always friendly. The place has very few places to sit as it is mostly take out. They have a cute little bookstore and gift shop inside as well. Whenever my family and I are in the area we pop into the White Mountain Cafe. Who needs one of the coffee chains when you've got gems like these! Not only is this place a cafe but also a little book store as well. Wicked charming! They've got an incredible selection of coffees to choose from. We LOVE the maple latte made with local maple syrup. Have it iced or hot, doesn't matter both ways are delicious! Hungry? There's a wide variety of pastries and pies to choose from as well. As well as gluten free options. They always offer breakfast sandwiches. The servers are very nice and almost every time we've visited this place has been relatively busy. Wait time on average to receive your order is about 5-10 minutes but well worth the wait. We look forward to visiting again real soon. read more

Love this place. I had coffee and quiche with basil/pesto/kale. I liked both very much. Coffee is good and big cup. Quiche was really tasty. Eggs are fluffy and pie portion is perfect. I like the concept of White mountain, such as sign as if trail direction. Having book store is a plus, because it gives more fun. The service is friendly. If you happen to be driving by the White Mountain Cafe and Bookstore...keep driving. Thought we'd try this place for breakfast as it appears to have an indoor seating area in the front. There actually is no place to sit unless you sit outside...and as of this time, that season has passed. Good quality was low and flavorless, and the coffee was underwhelming. My dad had been telling everyone in Maine that would listen that I have never had a whoopie pie in my life. He was lamenting what a terrible parent he must have been to never have introduced me to this (apparent) delicacy. White Mountain Cafe is where he finally overrode my protestations and forced me to try one (honestly, the concept didn't even sound good). It would not, of course, be fair of me to rate a place on their whoopie pie after I guessed, correctly, that I would not like it (and I didn't - who wants a frosting sandwich?). But it is fair of me to rate a place on their whoopie pie after having tried it and - surprisingly - liked it at OTHER places, who don't turn the filling into cloying frosting. And it's fair to rate a place for having butternut squash soup that tastes like half and half. And for not having a bathroom when they're a sit-down restaurant. After driving for over 2 hours from Vermont, this was a lovely rest stop to replenish the body and soul. Ordered the "Madison" which was turkey with sauerkraut, sauce, cheese grilled on a foccacia bread, warm and delicious with a nice bag of crunch tater chips! Great selection of coffee (had the maple flavor version) and the down home earthiness of the food is wonderful. It is "hipster"-ish but not pretentious that many hipster cafes can be. It was simply a cafe bookstore that sold good food, good ambiance and friendly service. The counter attendant with no attitude nor judgement took my water bottle and filled it up with water and ice without blinking.
