I'm a Guinness and/or lager drinker myself (with the odd Jack Daniels or Jaegerbomb) but I'm always intrigued to the different guest ales 'The Farm' has on offer every week. From Ginger Beard to Dirty Blonde, they always offer something different and tasty. Landlord Dave is especially keen on the ales and has a jar himself from time to time at the end of the bar. But it's not just the beverages on offer that makes for a pleasant visit to a pub. For me, it's the layout of the pub. Not in an aesthetic sense but a practical or feng sui way. I'm not keen on establishments where the bar is cornered off or separate to the social space. In the Moorside Farm the bar is wrapped around the whole bright table/ seating area - which makes for a great social space. One end of the bar is the dart board (very dart friendly) and the other end is the toilets. Being a regular, you tend to find yourself making your way down the length of the bar (doing your rounds so to speak) letting on to people. Not to mention the lovely beer garden that seats easily 60 people. There's a DJ with a great sense of humour on a Friday night. Equipped with karaoke gear and silly blow up toys and luminous wigs. Quite cheesy actually. But cheesy is good sometimes, especially when you want a down-to-earth night with your mates. The Farm serves food, from a diverse menu. I typically start with the soup of the day which is usually tomato & basil. My favourite main is the Ranch Burger. It's a decent sized beef burger served with BBQ sauce, salad and chips. Simple food but very tasty. It's freshly made by the good chefs of the Farm. I finish with the yummy chocolate indulgence sundae. Which as sundae's go is pretty poor to be honest but I love ice-cream so I don't generally care. Call it beer goggle desert. Landlords Dave & Lynne are welcoming-ish characters with a very dry sense of humour. People tend to have a banter with them - which usually consists of "oh no it's that ginger idiot again!" but it's all in good fun - I reply with "shut it you southern fairy!" Dave & Lynne seem to get a little upset with you using plastic, especially when you use it every two pints. So, I usually open a tab and just use it once before I leave (if I don't get too drunk and forget!) The pub could really do with some sort of special offer or promotion. A happy hour or license to Sky for the football wouldn't go a miss. My friends and I spend many a night trying to come up with the most elaborate ideas to boost traffic in the pub

Stocked with the standard but also bringing in some guest ales. The place seaves food, with again is standard pub food. While it is OK and will fill a need it wasn't anything to rave about. The best thing about this pub was the lady running it, my herself it seemed as well. She was a great host a sever and although she was clearly busy (pub wasn't quite that night) she will made time to chat to the locals and us newbies.

The weather was nice and since the current covid rules allow for pubs to be open and provide food and drink outside we went for it. We were greeted warmly and it was explained that we had to download the app for table service and we could sit anywhere we liked. The outside was huge offering plenty of space to sit although tables were reserved from 2pm onwards. The menu had a good eclectic selection for drink and as for food offered the usual falafel, meatballs, nachos etc. We weren't massively hungry just nibblish so we shared a buttermilk chicken and haloumi platter for £13 and Latina fries for £4.50 which consisted of a topping of nachos cheese, salsa , guacamole and soir cream. To wash this down with I chose a gin cocktail consisting of prosecco, gin and lemonade..it was really tasty! The presentation was lovely and everything tasted great although I suspected the chips were from frozen. However I did feel that everything was a bit overpriced..there was x3 pieces of chicken and cheese on the sharing platter and everything came to £36 . Despite this we enjoyed the experience and all the staff were lovely. Probably wouldn't rush back for the food.

We ordered 2 mains, I had the chicken burger whichm came with a verity of dips and I didn't actually have any complaints, but the guy I was with had the half roast chicken and said it was awful. He complained it was really dry and a bit tasteless. So all in all not very impressive. We also ordered a Sunday to share but it didn't have half the ingredients on the menu, so was basically just ice cream and brownies.

It was whilst on one of these walks I discovered Reflexion Shisha Lounge. The lounge is extremely well run and the interior is immaculate. A posher version of Rusholme's Shisha cafe offerings is how I'd probably describe it. The Scene Indian kitchen shisha terrace probably gives it a run for its money but I think Reflexion wins out, just! The quality of the shisha is very good and despite it being a tad more expensive, given the waterside views is worthwhile. As well as Shisha they also have an extensive F&B menu although it's diffficult to see anyone venturing here for that alone if you're not into shisha. This place has definately given me more of a reason to explore what this locale has to offer.
