Food is faultless, menu varied, but lacks a traditional sirloin or rib eye option - you can have a steak sandwich or a steak burger instead though. Pinot Grigio was more than drinkable, spirits served in nice glasses with plenty of ice, and Lucky Saint beer was a god send with all the men driving. Other lagers were standard and a bit bland - San Miguel, Amstel etc but a good selection of national and local casks. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending.

The salad was lovely except for the fact that a few of the tomato wedges were underripe and several pieces of the chicken were like leather. It's cleaner, the staff are much more friendly and the service generally faster. The tables at the Barton arms were all dirty and nothing was cleared away promptly. We ordered 2 mains, I had the chicken burger whichm came with a verity of dips and I didn't actually have any complaints, but the guy I was with had the half roast chicken and said it was awful. He complained it was really dry and a bit tasteless. So all in all not very impressive. We also ordered a Sunday to share but it didn't have half the ingredients on the menu, so was basically just ice cream and brownies.

The weather was nice and since the current covid rules allow for pubs to be open and provide food and drink outside we went for it. We were greeted warmly and it was explained that we had to download the app for table service and we could sit anywhere we liked. The outside was huge offering plenty of space to sit although tables were reserved from 2pm onwards. The menu had a good eclectic selection for drink and as for food offered the usual falafel, meatballs, nachos etc. We weren't massively hungry just nibblish so we shared a buttermilk chicken and haloumi platter for £13 and Latina fries for £4.50 which consisted of a topping of nachos cheese, salsa , guacamole and soir cream. To wash this down with I chose a gin cocktail consisting of prosecco, gin and lemonade..it was really tasty! The presentation was lovely and everything tasted great although I suspected the chips were from frozen. However I did feel that everything was a bit overpriced..there was x3 pieces of chicken and cheese on the sharing platter and everything came to £36 . Despite this we enjoyed the experience and all the staff were lovely. Probably wouldn't rush back for the food.

I rarely get it blue. So far the only places I've eaten that are happy to cook it that way are The Grill on The Alley and The Grill on New York Street. Until last night..... The White Horse is our local pub, just five minutes walk down the road and my other half and I have been in a couple of times since its refurb for a couple of drinks. Its a lovely homely pub with alcoves off and although open plan it feels like an old country local. Yes the decor and furniture is all new but it doesn't feel sterile and lacking personality like some do when they've been done up. Its a really lovely atmosphere in there. There was a football match being played on the various TV screens and a quiz after the football so it was understandably busy for a Tuesday night. For me that just added to the atmosphere. My better half likes it as it serves cask real ales, some from local breweries too, a nice selection with little samples on each pump so you can see the colour and clarity of each ale. A nice touch. The menu itself is lovely, from classics like cod and chips to orzo pasta salad and sharer plates. I fancied rump steak and my fella had Hunters chicken. Despite how busy the place was it didn't take long for the food to arrive. The steak I had was a lovely thick piece that I was surprised to see had been cooked blue to perfection. Melt in the mouth, tasty and juicy. In fact my tastebuds are tingling now just thinking about it! The hunters chicken looked and smelled good too, and was very good according to him indoors! We also had a pud each, millionaires cheesecake and profiteroles which were both absolutely divine. Profiteroles were coated in chocolate and filled with hazelnut cream, a nice twist on a classic dessert. All in all a really beautiful meal, the quality of the food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and the staff are friendly and gave exceptional service, especially given how busy it was. I'm pretty sure we'll be eating there more often, it really is a gem of a place.
The Blind Pig
Brand spanking newly opened!…read more At the heart of Monton's upcoming new businesses, The Blind Pig has just opened renovated that has replaced a previous pub there previously. The decor looks fresh, new, chic, understated and has that grey wood varnish touch that seems to be quite in at the moment. It's a bar but also a restaurant although it still has that pub feel but the new era pub feel. We went for the food and the cocktails - on a Friday night! This is the real time to test a new eatery. They did surprisingly well. We didn't wait for ages, had fun with the cocktails and discussing the place. Cute little notes were hung from table decorations and writing on the walls. Selection: Starting sharer platter - Italian meats, rocket, olives, mozzarella Soup and chips Random I know, but it worked. All of the food was tasty and fresh. Even through the renovation, it still attracts a lot of the old crowd. We were sat next to some people who didn't stop saying the F word through our latter part of the meal. This didn't put me off the food and the experience we'd had so far and I think it genuinely deserves 4*'s.

Location however is not the over-highlight of this huge pub! Decently priced drinks, especially draft beers/ciders, yummy desserts and fairly good food, are vital factors to why anyone would like to come here. Refreshing! If it's summer, you will not be disappointed with the outdoor seating, situated through the rear patio doors. You may also enjoy this if you have a habit of smoking - huge tables with vastly wide fitted umbrellas combined with heaters for colder evenings/months. Everyone is catered for here!
