I was in town and decided to stop at the Oast House on a windy weekday. I emphasize windy because there are only a limited amount of heaters, and as an outdoor beer garden, more heaters should be distributed throughout. I ordered the poutine (first time having poutine, btw) and thought it was really tasty. I don't have a reference point but I do think Oast added its own twist because it had a curry flavoring that shone through the gravy. As for the burger, that lacked flavor. Really no seasoning and if it weren't for the cheese might not have tasted any salt. The fries were mediocre. I actually preferred the poutine over the actual fries. That night, two gentlemen were performing. They were interested in taking requests which always makes for a fun exciting night. I do want to add that I asked for a container for the leftovers and apparently the restaurant was out of them. Weird. read more

The Oast House is one of two New World Trading Co restaurants in the city centre, it is located in the central point of Spinningfields, just off Bridge Street and Deansgate via Wood Street. The decor is like nothing I've seen before, it is: cool, unique, trendy, innovative - accessed through a steep ramp or steps into an amazing open area which would be great for beer and food in the summer, or you can go inside to a wooden hut with exposed wood and other cool aspects of decor including plaques celebrating Guinness World Records such as being the largest beer tasting event, involving 322 people back in 2013. Tables are limited and as you can't make reservations which is unfortunate, you could often be left disappointed or to wait as the lower tables are even more scarce compared to higher tables mainly for beer. My server was really friendly as NWC standards are usually, he explained everything even the 40% off January promotion and 241 on cocktails, but as I was working in the evening I decided to stick to water. This is pretty much a bar, mainly down to the huge outside area and the limited area indoors as shown with the menu, it is pretty much a similar dimmed down menu to what you'd find at The Botanist, which is this company's main brand who have a location nearby on Deansgate. For example, the selection on the deli boards was smaller and they also didn't have the full range of Hanging Kebabs which sadly meant I couldn't order my favourite, chicken and chorizo. I opted for the Red Tractor Half Chicken which is a 1/2 chicken with a seasoned rub, gravy and a good portion of chips. While I would have preferred some salad or coleslaw as well, I did think this was one of the best items on the menu. My food was pretty good and the portion was good too, although I found the gravy to be a little thin and bland and while the rub was bold, tasty and favourable - there just wasn't enough! This meant some parts of the chicken tasted far too dry and unpleasant, I would have preferred the option to just have breast meat and possibly boneless too, but obviously this isn't possible with the rotisserie style dish. My food was pretty good value though at £11.95 which went down to £7.17 after the January promotion, which unlike The Botanist you MUST have their app and loyalty scheme to use but it's well worth having regardless as you get 5% back onto your card to use off a future bill from February onwards. I was surprised at the speed of service too, my food came out so quickly which was good however this was ruined slightly with a long wait for my bill as it just seemed one staff member was doing everything, with the others slacking off in a corner. I'd say The Oast House is a great place to get a drink and snacks to utilise the outdoor area, but for food, it just isn't as good. The size is an issue as even on an afternoon it seemed overflowing and noisy (rowdy customers waiting, combined with music) and a little dark too (they dimmed the lights before 4 pm) and in these winter months it becomes an issue to sit outside. For me, the centre point of Spinningfields IS The Oast House. Situated next to The Avenue walkway and across from Iberica and Thaikhun, you can't miss this authentic looking, old cottage / lodging house. A huge canapy outside provides shelter from the Manchester rain, or even the Manchester sun (on those rare few summer days) and an outside bar caters to your needs for drinks as well as BBQ and rotisery food for those outside dwellers. The inside of TOH is lovely. Wooden tables, benches and chairs and a log fire make you feel right at home, like you were in a country pub in The Lakes, rather than in Manchester City Centre. The food is good, as most Living Ventures, places are. They do excellent hanging kebabs which are always a hit and their burgers and charcutery deli boards are also excellent. Their beer range is not to be sniffed at either, as it's quite extensive. If you're heading to Spinnigfields, TOH is a must - you may even catch a bit of live music on in here too! read more

Up there with my favourite weekend/evening hangouts, mainly because it can be enjoyed year round. I've visited a few times at several different times of the year and have been impressed each time. In summer, the large courtyard is packed out with sun-worshippers (I know I know it's the Manchester sun but we have to make the most of what we get). In winter they have a warm and cosy Tiki hut open which is a real winner in the bitter Northern wintertime. Overall, Oast House offers a really nice chilled out environment and plenty of space to knock back a few craft beers & they have a decent selection of those - the Arizona was my favourite tipple. Had I written this review after my first visit, they'd get a 4 star, however after the Hanging Kebab I had on my most recent visit, there is no way I cannot give them a 5. I'm new to Manchester and this was the first bar I sampled on arrival - what a great start! Firstly, the exterior looks like something from a fairy tale, standing out like an olde worlde rose amongst the thorns of modern architecture surrounding it. It oozes warmth on a cold winter's day and invites people of all ages into its Scandinavian-style tent at Christmas time. Here, you can warm your frost-bitten tootsies next to an open fire, sit on benches with faux-fur rugs and enjoy a real ale, mulled wine or, my personal favourite, Belgian cherry beer. The marquee isn't there all year round but that doesn't stop the Oast House from offering one of the most unique drinking experiences in the city. Live music can be seen and heard most days and when it's not live, it's still brilliant. I'm a huge 90's Britpop enthusiast so hearing Dodgy's 'Staying Out For The Summer' on my recent visit actually made my week. Yes, I don't get out much (but that's about to change). I haven't eaten here but the food menu sounds awesome - lots of meat, lighter snacks and influences from every corner of the globe. As soon as I have some money, I will be trying out the dangly kebabs I saw someone eating there the other day (and couldn't stop drooling over). To conclude, this the perfect bar for an indie kid (or thirty-something) with a healthy appetite for live music, great beers and a laid back ambience. read more

There is a large outdoor seating area, where are always filled with people drinking during summer time. The indoor space is cozy and stylish. It has large benches which are great for group gathering. You can also select the seats in the corner for a quiet conversation. The food menu are mainly barbecue based. The signature dish is the hanging kebabs and you can choose from beef, chicken, lamb etc. It also comes with chips, which have house seasoning full of flavours. The Oast House is a welcoming, warm and cozy retreat on a winters day in Manchester and I've run in here a few times to warm up my hands after shopping or ice skating on the Spinningfields rink. Slap bang in the middle of the square in Spinningfields, the Oast House pub is housed in a charming building with beams, wooden tables and exposed brick. I have just been to oast house for lunch and feel that I can't not leave a good review, it's always one of the good places to come for drinks but I have just been for lunch. I went with my mum and we got two chicken hanging kebabs, chips and Greek salad. Was 100% the nicest kebabs I've ever had and wasn't too expensive. The staff were also helpful as I wasn't sure what to do you just go up to the bar and make your order and can pay there and then or leave a tab open. The menu wasn't a big choice so I wouldn't go for tea but for a nice filling lunch it was a perfect choice! It was more burgers and kebabs and you could get a deli board and have four sides. Situated amidst the fancy, modern buildings of spinning fields is this beautiful wooden pub with a massive outdoor cemented seating area, The Oast House perfectly caters to all recreational needs of the young corporates. I specially love their wide selection of beers and yes they have Hoegarden here (It is my favorite beer). The price is obviously steeper than a normal pub but that is mostly because of its location! The food here is absolutely gorgeous too and the chicken wings and pork ribs (nom nom nom). The staff are friendly and the service is very efficient, which makes the experience even better. You won't find the rowdy, loud crowd here so you can be rest assured about not witnessing any kind of pub fight and have a peaceful time drinking and chatting. And even though the crowd here is quite posh, you will not feel uncomfortable wearing your jeans and sweatshirt here. The perfect place to take visitors who have never been to Manchester before. I was one of those visitors and The Oast House was our final stop of a day exploring the city. The first impression may be a bit tacky as it's just sooo out of keeping with its surroundings, but once inside you have to give in and just love it. We'd been prepped about the hanging skewers with garlic sauce dripping down the meat and onto the chips below - the signature dish, simple yet effective (we felt sorry for the people sharing our train carriage on the way home to London). Other dishes on the menu included sharing plates and burgers, everything sounded and looked similarly delicious. The Oast House has a feel of a German beer tent to it, you just grab a seat on the big shared tables and benches and order at the bar. The noise levels are a bit higher than you would normally expect in a dedicated restaurant, but the live music was actually really good. Walking around Spinningfields on Easter Friday, my friend and I were drawn to The Oast House. It was noisy with laughter and it was sun soaked - everything you'd want from a summery daytime venue. Navigating our way through the crowd to the first outdoor bar we were told it was closed. Strange considering how bustling with thirsty punters this place was. Approaching the second (open) bar we ordered 2 ciders (nearly £10) and set off to find a place to sit. Perhaps it's unfair to base my review on such a busy day but I often think that the most accurate representation of a place comes when it's being stretched to it's limits - much like the big boss man Alan Sugar's tactic with his Apprentice contestants. The outdoor seating area was jam-packed. People were dressed up to the nines. Ladies had missed out on the midday sun to apply fake tan (I can't make sense of that either) and wriggle into their best frock in preparation for a big day/night out ahead. We stood, keeping an eye out for a place to perch. No one was leaving - there was sun, fun, drinks and a whole afternoon ahead - why would you leave? The atmosphere was brilliant ...until our second cider and the inevitable need for a toilet stop. There were three cubicles. Three! The endless queue snaked through the already crowded indoor area. It wasn't really ideal for those who had sat for a nice lunch (of the amazing looking meat skewers from the BBQ). Hen parties with full bladders and feather bowers stumbled around the tightly packed tables interrupting diners trying to enjoy a meat feast. It's a good job the sun was out and spirits were high, otherwise there might have been trouble. The Oast House (forgetting the toilet trauma) was definitely the best place we could have chosen. It's in a great location, has a huge outdoor seating area and a good selection of food and drink. If it's ever sunny again in Manchester, I'll definitely be going back. read more

The Oast House is located in Spinningfields with one of the biggest outdoor 'beer gardens' to be found in Manchester. I've not eaten here but believe the hanging kebabs are amazing and really good value. This place is always rammed when the sun is out but, if you can find a spot, it is good for a catch up with friends in the sun. There is a lengthy wine list and a fairly good cocktail list but I find it fairly pricey. It is as if you are paying for the outdoor space. The indoor area is fairly small with a rustic wooden feel that is wonderfully cosy in the winter months. There are lots of events going on such as Spin Fest and live music which is put through the PA system so you can enjoy it outside in the sunshine. A good place to people watch and enjoy what sun we do get in Manchester. read more

Prior to my visit I liked the bonkers idea: plonk a Kentish hops-drying barn in the middle of the Spinningfields business district. So completely out of character for the place. I first had reservations on hearing that the draught lager was ... Budweiser. That makes no sense? A place that's supposedly a temple to good beer, and they serve that brown dishwater? I paid a very short visit on a Friday night. The music was loud and cheesy, and the crowd very Deansgate-y. A lot of suits about. The single beer I had was well kept, but it had better be at the price. I hated the feel of this place: I'd hoped for a cosy real-ale place, and got the Living Room instead. A great place for large groups to eat, drink and be merry. Every time I have been here there tends to be live music which is pretty good. The food is good here and there is a bbq outside which I have yet to try but the hanging kebabs coming out of there did look good! This place is a little pricey and some of the people there are pretentious looking folk but as long as they keep to themselves that is fine. The Oast House has one of the best outdoor spaces for drinks in Manchester and looks particularly special in the evening due to their clever use of lighting. There is a really vibrant atmosphere here and you will find this place is always busy regardless of the unpredictable Manchester weather. The use of the outdoor area means that even at it's busiest you still feel like you have some space, and it is easier to come here with larger groups and still get seating than it is at most of the Manchester bars. However trying to get to the bar is not as easy as and the bar area is very crowded if you are there during peak times, on the plus side though they are well staffed so it rarely takes as long as you think it will to get served. Spinningfields is a great looking area in Manchester and there has clearly been substantial investment throughout. It has to be remembered though that the prices are a little higher here than they are elsewhere in the city and the Oast House is no exception, buying 2 double shots of bourbon cost almost as much as it would to buy a full bottle from the supermarket. Having said that, nobody goes to Spinningfields for a cheap night out and the Oast House sits right in the heart of what is a great area for food, drinks and socialising in the city. If you are in Spinningfields with friends then you should definitely make the Oast House one of your destinations. read more

The issue (for me) was probably going on a wet Saturday evening. I didn't eat here, so I can't comment about that, but I just found it horribly packed. Maybe the weather, maybe just the way it is. But I won't be returning at this time in a hurry. Perhaps you just need to be a lot more dunk - but for that you would need get get served a drink. On a more upbeat note, if you do like places to be extremely busy then it's a pretty nice atmosphere overall. This place might be worth another go during the day, but for an evening venue it's definitely not for me. read more

I haven't been here in a while however its always been a go-to place on a nice evening after work. The outside seating area is perfect and if you don't manage to find a seat on one of the tables there is some extra steps which are useful. The downside to this place is the queues and wait at the bar and toilets- I lack patience! Having said that on busy nights they do have an extra bar open outside which is nice and the shelter provided by the buildings in Spinningfields allows this place to become a sun trap. I've been told the food here is also spot on so i'll be sure to return and try out some of the hanging kebabs! read more

Although great when the weather is warmer don't over look the Oast house now the nights are turning a bit fresher. I visited on a Saturday night and yes it was busy but it was looking super festive with all the lovely decorations and had the added touch of a live band. Mulled wine and mulled cider are now on the menu so there's no excuse not to get into the swing of the season:) The outdoor beer tent has been replaced by a winter tee-pee complete with roaring fire and twinkly lights. it got really toasty with the fire and the people in there perfect for when it it is sub zero outdoors (well maybe not quite but it felt like it was!!). t hey also have outdoor heaters on so even if it gets a bit too hot in the teepee you can cool off to a degree outside Crowd was mixed and friendly and i enjoyed my night there. read more

Well, wasn't this experience just a bit poo compared to everyone elses? Arriving on a Friday after work, we were obviously aware that the place would be full to the proverbial rafters. Diners and drinkers piled in alongside each other, attempting to soak up what was left of the sun. Despite its popularity, the setting of The Oast House isn't much of a sun trap - you'd be better off on the lawns. We were completely put off by the swarm by the bar, due predominantly to the beer tent running out of beer, and opted for an Arepol Spritz, also on a seperate bar. It was completely 70s and not very tasty. Sitting on the grey concrete steps, we were surrounded by glasses and full ashtrays. We saw glass collectors roaming around, but they never got very far, and nowhere near us. Atmosphere was lacking as we couldn't sit on a table and had to crane our necks to talk. All in all, I expect this place is much better under different circumstances, but for what we wanted it was sorely lacking. read more

One of Living Ventures' numerous establishments, the Oast House had, I'd been informed, been brought piece by piece from Kent via Ireland, and then rebuilt right in the city centre. Now one side of me feels that it's a shame that a 'new' building had to be shipped halfway across the country when there are plenty of unoccupied ones that are ripe for renovation in Manchester. However, the other side of me really likes how this space from history looks in the sleek concrete, glass and steel surroundings of Spinningfields. The interior looks warm, rustic and inviting with all the wooden beams on show. We were in luck on a Friday night when we arrived that an acoustic duo were playing (guitar and piano) so the atmosphere was electric - they were fantastic. It was extremely busy in there (as you'd expect) and the huge dining tables take up for too much space, but we still managed to find a decent spot to enjoy the music. Given it's on the 'higher end' of the spectrum the drinks are a tad pricey, but they sell pints of cask ales for £4 or less (including from Thornbridge and RedWillow). Their beer selection is also pretty substantial: lagers, ales, dark beers, wheat beers, trappist, blondes, ciders & perries. A large glass of rosé will set you back over £6 and a G&T about £7. read more

I love the this place. One of my favourite places in Manchester if the sun is shining. It's sad that one of my first thoughts when I see the sun shining...hanging kebab at the Oast House! It was about time someone gave Dukes 92 a run for their money! I only wish it was a little bigger, it's so popular due to it's great location which obviously means it's crowded but I find it difficult to persuade people to come here when it's always packed. The other day we got there and no one wanted to stay because there were no seats...not their fault their popular so I can't slate them for it. The food is great (as previously mentioned, hanging kebab = awesome). there's a great selection of beers and ciders (pricey but it's city centre so it's expected) and there's always a great atmosphere. Love ... to ... the ... it! To look at this place kinda reminds me of Shrek's house if it had been lifted from the swamp and instead placed in the middle of metropolitan Manchester. Surrounded by office blocks and other modern architecture The Oast House, which wouldn't look entirely out of place in a Tim Burton movie, certainly doesn't blend in seamlessly to its surroundings, but for me that just adds to its appeal. I first visited on a late Saturday afternoon in September. Even at that time of day you needed to hustle for a seat to join the rest of the masses who were there to see and be seen. As afternoon melted into early evening (with the aid of a few drinks) the place definitely got busier and the drinkers a little more groomed as they stopped for their first drink of the night. The open air/picnic table setting was fantastic and spacious considering you are right in the centre of the city. There a lots of quirky little touches (aside from the aesthetics) that also add to the charm and vibe of this place ... namely the flights of beers (a tray with tasters of a number of different beers) ... and the food (which I didn't try) but saw came presented on some crazy hanger type thing ... what can I say?! This bar is definitely the main focal point of this part of Spinningfields. Theres a relatively small interior bar area which can be nice and warm place to relax on a cold winters day. However, this bar is more about utilising the outside space which has 10 times more seats than they have inside. They have additional outdoor pop up bars to cater to the extra demand at busy periods. I dropped by as I had some time to kill prior to the Gold Elite event around the corner at Fazenda. £4 pint of lager - very standard, nothing of note, probably should use the indoor bar for a better choice. This is one of those typical '3.5 star' Yelp experiences for me, and as this place really doesn't do anything that blows me away at all, I'll settle for 3. read more

So the Oasthouse is pretty close to my office, infact if it wasn't for Her Majesties buildings of JUSTICE I could probably star out my window at it everyday. This however is the first time I've been. My usual Friday gaggle of misfits usually drink elsewhere, so I was quite keen when the gaggle dropped to just a lovely couple of ladies who apparently really like Oasthouse I was happily led onwards. Oasthouse is strange in that it's completely at odds with its surroundings of Concrete and Glass, however I wouldn't say it looks totally out of place. What I did like to see what the ales on tap, the tap being in the side of a barrel I nice touch. The place always looks very busy to me, yes there are the usually sprinkling of City boys (and girls) but lets face it we're in Spinningfields the only reason they aren't there is because they got sucked up by Alchemist on their walk to Oast. decent amount of bar staff on to deal with the amount of people wanting serving, so thats pleasant to see. The beer garden, or based on it's size would beer park be more appropriate I imagine when the suns out is pretty awesome we went around 8 on a Friday evening so the sun certainly wasn't high but equally it was warm so nice to relax in. The Oast House has both good outdoor and indoor space, with loads of big tables for groups inside. I can't speak for the beer selection but they had good cider and the food smelled fantastic. I also enjoy its incongruous oldey worldey rustic appearance in the middle of modern gleaming Spinningfields. I normally wouldn't give a 5/5 for a place I have just been once. Maybe they were just having a good day?? Anyway, went to Oast House with friends over Christmas. We sat in the 'outside' Tipi (aka TeePee) type tent - which I believe was there only for Christmas. Being winter it was cold outside and they had a fire inside. Still it would have been nicer if it was a bit warmer!! Anyway, I have a hanging kebab. Basically its a chicken kebab, hanging vertically. You then pour over, from the top, some garlic butter. There are some excellent wheat beers from Germany and Belgium and some interesting beers from places such as Hawaii.
