pork roast dinner - to get those tastebuds watering!
    Jessica H.

YES. ANOTHER FOUR STARS. I am getting a bit predictable aren't I? On the advice of a housemate, she took me and another housemate here for sunday lunch on the promise it would make me stop yearning/complaining about the fact I hadn't had a sunday lunch in a while. At first, I wasn't too impressed with the exterior - it felt a touch faux-tudor and mass produced. However, once I got inside this feeling instantly dissapeared and I fell in love. Though our welcome was, at first, a tad frosty (namely, the head waitress kept her back to us for a good few minutes and drinks felt like they took a while to come) we landed a super friendly waitress who reminded me somewhat of someone you would befriend on holiday or down your local. To start I had broccolli soup and then belly pork for main. And I was just blown away. And not just because the yorkshire pudding was the size of my face. The pork was melt in your mouth, the vegetables were cooked well and not soggy, the yorkshire pudding well (and home) made, and the gravy plentiful - one for the northerners! The soup was just the right consistency, though a touch too big of a serving when considering the size of the main, but that might just be me. Definitley the sort of thing to write home about. And cheap - my starter/main/one drink set me back £19.80, which is worth it considering the quality and atmosphere. One thing I would note is that is was extremely busy. We were there on a sunday, which is obviously prime time for people to go out and eat, and were lucky to get a table for the three of us. I am not 100% on whether they do reservations but, if they do, I would recommend it if you are set on going. Worth going even if you live in the city centre. West Didsbury is a nice place to explore, or just sit and watch the world go by once you realise your jeans feel much tighter than they did before you ate.

As one of my locals, the Met is a winner all round. The food here is good (especially the pizzas which are cooked in front of you in a proper pizza oven), and the sit down restaurant is always busy but I've not actually eaten there so can't comment. The place is always chockablocked, but the staff are always friendly and efficient. Because of how busy it is, it can often be difficult to get seats, so if you're planning on visiting the Met, get there a it earlier than planned. It is especially gorgeous at Christmas as the real wood burning fires are lit, the Christmas trees are decorated beautifully and the mulled wine is AMAZING (if not quite pricey at around £5 a glass).

The indomitable Metropolitan has it all: a large beer garden, a great restaurant, cosy nooks by the fire and library for Sunday lounging and ample parking on-site. It's traditional in style but the decor has such warmth and character, attracting professionals, families, and bohemians alike. I've been here in the summer when the beer garden fills quickly but luckily the overspill is managed by grass to sit on. In the Autumn I prefer to sit in the Observatory, watching the passing foot traffic as I sup my pint. It isn't the cheapest of destinations but the food is rather good, recently receiving the accolade of a Harden's listing. It's not uncommon to see items like Pheasant, Bream and Lamb Shank on the mains, all of which are finished to the highest standard. Personally I've only tried the Metropolitan burger with comes with relish, bacon & blue cheese and a side of fries. Okay, it's a little more expensive at £10.50, but cooked perfectly (that would be medium rare for me!). My top tip: if you've had a hard day and the weather has beaten you to a pulp, try the Hot Chocolate with Brandy, topped with cream. That will soon warm your cockles.

There are two real, spitting, open fireplaces in this place. Yes two. That marks the first tug on the heart strings. Then there's all the real quality sturdy wooden furniture, the high roofed beamed ceilings and the upholstered chairs that could lead me to take up theft (I want one for my house). What's the final and most interesting comment on the look of the Met, is the bookcase, with the real books on them, not toy ones I can reassure. Well back in the old days pubs were places where you would go to read. Not quite so much any more. So yes I love, love the cosy, traditional, classy feel to the Metropolitan and all the interesting pieces to make up a great pub. This particular afternoon visit I met a friend for catch ups, tea, beer, wine and gin. With good insight into the alcoholic and hot drinks, the Metropolitan kept us engrossed in conversation. The Metrpolitan is one of those places you could sit in all day without a care in the world about responsibilites. If you find youself still around between 5-7, there's two courses for £8.95 and considering a starter in itself can be £5.95 and a main up to £15, it's a bargain. The conservatory for outdoors drinking completes a perfect West Didsbury outing. Day or night, The Metropolitan is brilliant.

As a patron since only 2009, i would like to add that this is a very enterprising pub. Very current n trendy. Nice out back open kitchen for bbq n with my visit today ive learnt The Met has a pizza pit making pizza to order. Just love the enthusiasm, the essence of promoting food, i mean while u drink. Most pubs are only too happy to sell booze only.

A great retro pub which has obviously been here for years, but the whole place is stunning, with all its original features with its beautiful high ceilings and fireplaces, this place is huge with a massive outdoor area, though this place gets real busy whens its a sunny day so get here early if you want to sit outside, all the staff are down to earth and I've heard the meals in here are pretty good too!

I went for the duck wontons to start, lamp shank for my main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert (January diet sorry what?!). So often it's both, but with Albert's the decor complements some visits there, and others not so much. Is that as confusing as it looks to me right now? Let's clarify... Hands down, awesome food. Like, seriously. Full marks. We came here with parents on a Thursday night (the new Friday as all you cool cats know) and sat down to some delicious wine, a smattering of tomato bruschetta with a criminal amount of garlic (thank the lord I didn't have to speak to anyone on a professional level the next day) and some hearty yet classy dishes. The boys wanted steak, and steak they got. As my friend's dad always says, if the steak's cooked properly, you don't need a steak knife, and these melted away like butter. The seafood menu was like a pick n' mix of fruits de la mer, and this is what the female contingent of the party opted for. My friend's mum went for the fillet of seabass served with a choice of vegetables, and I asked about the fish stew and the Thai monkfish curry. The kind waitress recommended the stew and I was so glad she did. Mussels in their shells, chunks of potato, a tomato sauce and huge hunks of fish had me almost too full to the brim for pudding, where we all decided we'd fight over a single pannetone bread and butter pudding. Rich, fruity and dense, the podded vanilla custard was the perfect partner. After reading Bex T's review I must concur wholeheartedly - Albert's is sleek and chic. The uber-modern clean blue lines would indeed feel at odds with a cosy Sunday roast dinner, although I do hear their roasts are legendary. It shan't put me off, I'll be back to try it. I'll just be sure to don my Sunday best when I do!

I took my parents here one Saturday afternoon for a little sit down and a hot drink after exploring the local shops. My Dad and I ordered a latte each and my Mum ordered a pot of peppermint tea. Both lattes came out at the perfect temperature and with a good amount of frothy milk on the top. Sadly, the pot of tea my Mum had ordered was a used pot of tea and was therefore half full and stone cold. It seems that one waitress had cleaned off another table and placed the finished with tea pot next to the freshly brewed one, so the wrong one was accidentally bought over. The staff were so apologetic and immediately bought over the actual freshly made pot of tea as soon as we noticed. After that minor mishap, everything ran smoothly and everything tasted just right. I really enjoyed the simplistic style with a few pieces of quirky artwork dotted on the walls. I'd say there's a kind of nautical theme running throughout the café, as there's ropes hanging from the ceiling and a few other seaside/fishing type items dotted around. All very cute and trendy. I'd recommend Rustik to anyone in the area, it's the perfect place (not at all like a standard high street coffee shop) to stop and have a quick drink. Also, the tables are spaced out, so you can enjoy a nice chat or catch up with friends or family without feeling like you're being listened in on.

This I did. On the return you would expect to take the same route. This we did. However another member of staff came over to the table and said ' It is unacceptable to come through the bar without asking' and while we tried to explain he just turned his back on us and walked away while we were still speaking to him. Prior to this I had ordered pizza and chips for the children. When they arrived it was the same member of staff bringing them over. He carried the pizza chips and cutlery/sauce box put them on the table. Glared at us, didnt speak and just stormed off. We did try to approach him again regarding the subject and once again he was not willing to listen and shut us down and walked away leaving us talking to ourselves. I found him to be very rude and to put it bluntly he just put a dampener on the whole day. I dont think I will set foot in the place again as I was left feeling angered and upset by his whole attitude and lack of respect for a paying customer. I run my own business and if i treat my customers in this way I would expect my business to fail and in this day and age thats not a chance any business should be willing to take. While I would not wish this on anyone trying to make a living they should be careful as to the type of people they employ and ensure their customer service skills are a lot better than we experienced.

Evidently the place survives on word of mouth, as they don't seem to have much of an internet profile and I can't recall seeing any press ever. There's several very good "Modern British" options around Manchester these days, but few have stayed so: my eating companion assured me it was just as good ten years ago. A moules mariniere starter was delicious, with surprisingly fresh-tasting mussels. It was, however, huge: a giant plate heaped with the things. Not a starter for those who aren't very hungry. Queen scallops, served in (two) shells with mash and a delicate white sauce was a bright and pleasant start to the meal. On our visit, the pork main was particularly fantastic, but my lamb was also very good: perfectly cooked vegetables. A dessert of STP was good but, again, huge: it's rare I don't finish a meal but I just couldn't. Service was friendly and just attentive enough, modulo a short period where we had trouble finding anyone. The men's toilets smelt *fantastic* - I doubt most people would care, but that's really rather rare. One downside I wish they would sort out: I know the restaurant is small, but they've squeezed far too many covers into the available splace: on a table for two we could have easily had an intimate conversation with the tables on either side.
