The Ashlea is a gorgeous little 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' pub, situated towards leafy Cheadle village. I came here with my parents yesterday when we were looking for a nice place to go for Sunday lunch, and was very pleasantly surprised by both its atmosphere and the excellent quality of its food.
'The Ashlea' prides itself on being family friendly, something which is obvious from the moment you walk through the door, and which is great for Mums and Dads looking to have a nice meal with the kids. I also loved the fact that it was full of little nooks and crannies which you could snuggle away in with a glass of wine - they even had a 'Cupid's Corner' for those looking to have a little more 'intimate' privacy.
Above all else though, the food was superb. I was really impressed by the extensive list of delicious looking Specials they had listed on the board next to the bar (although these are only available Monday to Saturday). Myself and my partners decided to share a Mezze Platter to start with, which was full to bursting with warm bread, hoummus, tzatziki, olives, peppers and feta cheese. Then, for a main, I had possibly one of the best Roast Chicken dinners I've had outside of my own kitchen. The portion of chicken I was served was huge - I kind of felt like King Henry 8th tucking into it to be honest. This was served with roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, a Yorkshire Pudding, a sausage wrapped in bacon (YUM), seasonal vegetables and a shedload of gravy. By the end of it, I was very full and extremely happy - particularly as it had all been washed down with an excellent glass of Shiraz. Alas, I was too full for a dessert, but from what I could see of them from the other diners, they too looked to be pretty spectacular.
Essentially, this is a really lovely little pub, and a perfect place to go if you're wandering around Cheadle looking for a nice pub to sit and have a natter in on a Sunday. I'll definitely be paying it a repeat visit the next time I'm in the area. read more
