Excellent ale house on Liverpool Rd. Hiding from the Manchester rain we popped in here to sink a few beers and keep warm and dry. Neil is a big fan of this place already. Their impressive array of beers makes this place a must-go on a lads night out. For 4pm ish on a Friday it's really busy, although I reckon I'm the only woman in here. That doesn't bother me though - I'd beat any one of these guys at pool! Hurrah. I like Cask. read more

Definitely my new favourite bar. Not as pretentious hipster as some of the NQ joints and less dingy than Big Hands/Temple,* drinks don't seem extortionate (£6.70 for a G&T and a pint) and they have nice cider on tap and many beers in fancy bottles in the fridge (also: root beer). MOREOVER: they have board games and you can bring in fish & chips from the shop next door that I have been eyeing up for more. Cask still needs a raving review! This bar is literally my favourite bar in Manchester. I also prefer it to all the pubs, clubs and restaurants in Manchester. Except for one, The New Oxford (see Yelp). The New Oxford and Cask are on a par as the best two businesses in the whole of Manchester. Fact. Cask is ridiculously cool. Situated just between Deansgate and the canal, the eclectic little bar features great drinks, great atmosphere, and great people. The drinks they have are all unusual and all delicious. They all come in different glasses of all different shapes and sizes, which contributes to your European beer drinking experience. My personal favourite is the bottle of Jever, a pint in volume, which comes with a big glass tankard that makes me feel like a real bloke. Its not just beers either, with some great wines and ciders available, including a little bottle of dry Spanish cider that ranks among the best I've tasted. They've got a little beer garden at the back which makes a great place to sit in warmer climes, and a cool juke box with a good selection of choonz as well. The staff are always really friendly and make a real effort to make you feel at home. You've gotta go and try if for yourself, but this little bar really is one of the things I love most about Manchester. read more

This is one of my favourite pubs near Manchester city centre. Its very close to my home which makes it all the better! The place looks rather strange from outside but really stands out with all that blue so you wil find it easily. I love drinking new foreign beers and become ecstatic when I find a pub with a dukebox so I was one happy bunny the first time I entered Cask. Lots of seats both inside and outside in the beer garden. Great atmosphere with lovely, friendly folk who are regulars to this little blue wonder. read more

I sloooowwwly supped a Brewsters Hophead as drinking on a ridiculously hot day was starting to catch up with me. Castlefield is without a doubt the most beautiful and chilled out area of the city centre and Cask is one its best bars. For starters its entire exterior is painted in aquamarine blue. I don't why that makes it any better, I just find it really satisfying every time I see it, I like to imagine that they were only ever supposed to do the window sills then just got carried away on one of those lovely Liverpool Rd summer days. Inside, you are always in danger of bumping into one of Coronation Streets stars or some other thesp rehearsing their lines. The decor is scruffy but comfortable and the jukebox is unashamedly colloquial in its song choices, but I suppose that's not a bad thing in Manchester. Wait for a sunny day then start off a great day out in the Castlefield basin with a swift one in Cask. read more

People getting lost trying to find my location often say "I'm at this blue shop on the corner." Something inside me always scream, yes it's blue, really blue and I love it it's that bright, but it's far from just a corner shop! I think the staff here get my vote; our first time frequenting this local was through passing by and peering in and the face behind the bar hollering come in. So we did and now I know never just to peer with curiosity but to enter and discover. It's got a whole continental range of ales and lagers great imports which makes it so easy just to enjoy a bit of Czech Republic or Belgium only 2 minutes from my house (I'm quite elated I almost share Cask's postcode). What amazes me is that it advertises to bring your own food too! Make it your own home with the taste of Germany or Belgium, just too much of a relax to miss. read more

I go here quite often. Its a great little pub/bar, with a small outdoor courtyard at the back. There is a great selection of beers, a good atmosphere, and you often see the same faces in there, which I think is a good sign...why would people keep going there if it wasn't any good! Some people might not like the 'rough round the edges' decor, but I think it suits the casual and relaxed vibe that it has. If you want smart and shiny, go down the road to Spinningfields. All in all, a great place for a catch up with friends any night of the week. read more

If it hadn't have been for the Friday Food Fight events at Upper Campfield Market over the past three months I'd probably have never stopped by Cask, but I'm glad I did. Located opposite the Museum of Science & Industry, it was bustling with drinkers when we arrived on a Friday evening which was no surprise. Thankfully, it's a TARDIS, there's a large back area of seating past the bar, though from the outside you'd think it was a compact boozer. The clientele is a great mix of folks too. With plenty (and I mean plenty) of beers available you'll be sure to find something you'll like whilst enjoying the indie tunes from the jukebox. Their selection includes German weiss beers, Belgian imports, Dutch lagers and bottles from across the globe - i.e. the choice is immense. read more

Cask is great because: it has a great range of games, and I've often ended up playing Jenga in there - 34 levels in one night, and then reinventing the game as a kinda stongehenge another night. You can imagine there's beer involved, and they have a great range of ale, that's constantly changing, as well as a range of continental ales. Mate's seem quite happy with the wine selection too. The atmosphere is laid back, and quite far away from an old man's pub. Very friendly, and chatty staff. The smokers will be happy too, as it has a covered smoking area at the back. Oh, and there's a never ending stream of great tunes on the jukebox. Volume is lively, but not too loud! To top it all, as long as you take your rubbish with you, they are very happy for you to bring you chips in from the chippy next door, and have a pint with them. It's just down the road from the Science Musuem, and a worthwhile diversion for 2 mins off Deansgate for a pre or post cinema pint if you're going to the AMC as well. read more

A main feature on my personal drinking routes through the city, Cask deserves its growing popularity. After a difficult time at work recently, a few of us decided to make the most of the Manchester sun and visit the Cask 'beer garden' (outside tables) with a pint or two. A short walk from both work and home for me, the bright blue exterior is like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The interior is relaxed comforting; the odd mismatch of stools, bright orange booths, and randomly placed beer / brewery branding just adds to the laid back atmosphere. There are a few games dotted around the booths, but you're better off bringing your own cards if you want to ensure a full pack! Still working on my beer education, I enjoyed two pints of Mary Jane session pale from The Ilkley Brewery followed by a Kona Big Wave, both excellent steps on my journey to fully fledged beer drinker. Service has always been friendly on my visits, with staff happy to talk you through different cans / bottles, plus give tasters from the taps. The toilets downstairs are probably the biggest downside to the place as there's always a damp smell, though you can combat this by darting into the disabled loo upstairs. All in all, a city staple for me, and I'm sure it'll continue to be. read more

A lot of my reviews start with words to the effect of 'why have I never been here before?' and this is no exception. How did it take me so long to get to Cask? It's exactly my kind of place: comfy, casual, great beer. As we weren't huge fans of the drinking setup at Castlefield Food Festival (drinks only in one area that for obvious reasons got very busy) we headed to Cask for a few more drinks. It's very cosy and friendly inside. There were no seats free in the little beer garden out back so we found seats inside and had a flick through the Pub Dogs of Manchester book while enjoying a delicious stout. Cask is near to MOSI just off deansgate on Liverpool Road. I'd heard great things about it so had to pop in when I was passing... Not been in a bar which serves so many beers and ales for a while! There must've been 15 on tap as well as numerous bottles... They also have cherry bee on draft!! Superb. The prices are average for city if not a little higher but the quality of the pint here was one of the best I've had in Manchester. I've heard you can bring your chippy tea in from the chippy next door which is great for a late evening snack. Will definitely be back to sample more delightful beers. read more

I have never been here before but someone at a yelp even recommended it so we was near by and decided to go in. Its just your average pub nothing special about the place but it had a nice atmosphere and the staff were really nice. I couldn't believe how many beers were on draft and they really looked after them do if you like beers and ales it's definitely a place to go. I don't really like beer but I do like a cherry beer and they have it on draft and it's so nice so I was happy. There is s chippy next door and I believe you can bring it in to cast and eat your chippy while having a drink as long as you take your rubbish with you. Think that's a great idea so will be definitely going back to get chips and a cherry beer. Overall a nice chilled out place definitely worth a try read more

I'm torn with Cask - it's always got a funny smell, it's very dark and if you sit outside you can smell the off fish from the chippy. HOWEVER it's a great place for a beer - they have a wonderful selection of some rare and wonderful craft beers/real ales from all over the world. Their spirits selection is pretty good (no Woodford tho), they even have a good range of softies AND there's always a friendly, convivial atmosphere here. I'd pick Cask over a lot of the other places in Castlefield and I am still awed by their beer selection and knowledge. Plus their bright blue frontage always beings a smile to my heart, even in the dreariest of weathers. Never mind the smell, you're there for the beer and Cask is fast becoming an institution in this part of town. read more

This is a true Manchester classic, not least because its laid back atmosphere and beer garden are hard to come by in these parts. The juke box deals out the best in local musical talent such as the Smiths and Stone Roses and the bottled beers are imported from all parts of the globe, but most importantly Germany, the Czech Republic and Belgium. The staff are friendly and the interior in warm and welcoming, especially the booth seats! There's something about this place that draws civilians and stars alike. read more

Cask is inconspicuous. Located on Liverpool Road, Castlefield; it is nestled behined a blue facade next to the local chippy. It is only once you go inside Cask that you realise it's actually quite big and always busy. I can only imagine the reason for it being so busy is it's incredibly laid back vibe and friendly staff. You can really relax in here. It has a selection of beers from around the world, from Cuba to some small Eastern Countires that I am not sure I have ever heard of before. These beers knock about in that middle ground between cheap and expensive, as the wise-man Stella Artois once said "reassuringly expensive" It also allows food to be consumed in there as they don't have a kitchen, so grab yourself some fish and chips and you're good to go! read more

Little pub of from Dean's Gate. Place is modern and perfect for a drink with friends or little groups. In this pub you can order 6.5% dark porter beer. Wow this pint was very strong and tasty. I can recommend this place for a drink before restaurant diner. read more

Cask, a hideous blue outer which could be enough to make you run a mile, is actually a nice little pub. The staff are incredibly chatty and friendly (and, according to a few of the ladies who have frequented there, uniformly handsome) and work their way round a place that's pretty cosy and a little tatty (but not tatty in a bad way you understand). The beer is decent enough and, if you like imported booze, they've got the suddenly hip Erdinger Dunkel in the fridge, should you feel like making your legs stop communicating with your brain for an evening. There's a big enough space out back for a crafty smoke, or of course, a sit in the sunshine should the weather be clement. However, these things come at a cost. The toilets in Cask can be pretty grim and the jukebox is like peering into Peter Hook's iPod as it's filled with Madchester classics. That said, if you can stomach that, it's a fine place to spend an evening. It's frequented by the museum staff from across the road and they're not notoriously a violent lot are they? A sit down, chat and a drink pub. Just swell. read more

A popular little pub that looks more like a little blue house from the outside. It's forteit is good, foreign beer and modern tunes on the dukebox. There is an unexpected beer garden out back for the summer months and the smokers, plenty of seating even if it does have to be crammed in to the small space, and generally a good vibe largely thanks to the cool staff. Cask is a nice place on Liverpool Road, and it was one of my discoveries in 2006. I don't visit it very often, which must be the reason why I'm under the impression that each time I visit it, the place somehow goes darker and duller. It is cosy but the last two times I've been there it seemed tacky, which is not something I particularly like in bar. Tacky is okay for a pub, but since bar is an upper end version of it, I'm upping the expectations, too. Their beer garden has always been lovely, however, and it was there that I enjoyed a company of a few creatives from various corners of the globe. It was there, as well, that I discovered Cruzcampo brand of Spanish beer. The bar is located close to the Spanish Cultural Centre in Deansgate, and is a good place to pop in for a pint of Spanish beverage. read more

A great little bar near Castlefield. It has a huge range of ales, a wonderful jukebox ( presuming you like manchester music...), cosy seating area inside, and a small courtyard for summer and/or smokers. Often looks closed, but rarely is. The staff are friendly - I really can't recommend it more - a real favourite. read more

been coming to cask since opening and have a lot of time for its well informed,very freindly staff and the punters. few internationals pop in thanks to the super hilton that overshadows it like a huge trendy shiny japanese ultra monster. just makes cask look cooler really. amazing stock of drinks really and staff will give their opinions on drinks if you want them. a few corporate monkeys pile in now waffling on their phones but they soon bugger off back to their little over mortgaged drums in the suburbs after three pints they think they should be drinking thanks to nob weekly or whatever they read and adhere to. a great bar and real treasure in the city centre dont go as i want it for myself and freinds. read more
