We were visitors in Lancaster, PA and stayed at a hotel in Intercourse. We asked for a recommendation for dinner and this was the place. We are so thankful. This restaurant is an absolute hidden gem. It offers outstanding food at an unbelievable value price. I had a wonderful cheese steak for $9.50 and my wife had a delicious Rachell for the same price. I finished my meal with an enormous piece of delicious homemade lemon meringue pie for $4.00. Absolutely astounding prices for excellent food in today's economy. And the service was just as great. We had an absolutely friendly and helpful waitress. It was close to closing when we were there so they were busy but not overly so and we had a chance to visit a bit with our waitress. Cute place, extremely busy with takeout orders - food was ok, chicken tenders and fries tasted like Sysco - didn't get salad or soup until main meal came out, neither meal received rolls and butter and waitress was very forgetful. Thanks to Yelp cos we probably never would have stopped here otherwise. This is a case of "Don't judge a book by its cover." It may look a little run down on the outside, but on the inside, it's very clean, cute decorations, and although not too big, every table was quickly filled. My spouse had a roast beef and gravy sandwich with mashed potatoes and macaroni salad. Such a huge portion that she had enough for another meal. I got the honey mustard fried chicken sandwich and a cup of chili. Both were so good that there were no leftovers! We also got some tapioca pudding to go. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer and mostly single handedly handled all the tables with another person occasionally bringing food out. Whether you travel to the Lancaster area or you're a long time local, White Horse Luncheonette has everything you want: great service (WOW, Lynn may have been the best server I can remember having in 20 years! Here's what we bought: - sweet teas with lemon... good start, and no "it's unsweetened tea north of the Mason-Dixon"... it was tasty with just enough sugar for my Southern Belle and me. - Buffalo Chicken "cheesesteak" Wrap-- Lynn told my wife this was spicy but not overpowering... and it was! Meat was tender, sauce was flavorful, and... - the BEST onion rings I can remember eating! Pay the upcharge, and enjoy perfectly crumb and batter-fried rings... with the most flavorful onions! Most of the time, onion rings kinda lose their flavor... or they're bitter. Not these golden treasures! They were crisp on the outside and tasty through and through! - White Horse Burger-- Lynn said the burgers were fresh, and I thought, eat the burger with the restaurant's name. It was a melted cheese slice, fried onions, and subtle steak sauce on top of a juicy beef patty with a homemade white roll. I asked for tomato and lettuce with it... and that was a win! The veggies are so fresh, especially the lettuce! It's no throwaway here: finely shredded, crisp, and adds to the burger's juicy and meaty flavor. Whatever I get next time, I hope it has lettuce‍ The chips were even tasty! They first looked like standard bagged, but they had a handmade taste to them. Also, we got corn fritters as a starter. Wife liked them a lot... and I enjoyed them... with some Tabasco Sauce, which was on the table. The desserts, again, did not disappoint! We got a "Fresh Peach Pie" and a "Cheesecake - Peach" off their chalkboard sweet ending options, based on Lynn's suggestions. The pie tasted as fresh as its name: whipped cream tasted hand mixed! Peaches didn't have anything but flavor and sweetness... no aftertaste...Yum! And the humbly unassuming cheesecake is perfect! The rich filling, the not-too-stiff Graham cracker crust, and some more yummy peaches all were on the spot! And really, our server was SO NICE! We came here for lunch on a week day, our first ever visit. It is clean and simple, a few booths, a few tables, and a counter. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. They sell legitimate Sourdough bread. Its a bit pricey but well worth it! So many bakeries offer what they call sourdough bread, but it's so mild that you can't really tell it's sourdough! Not the case here! The sour is forward but not overly so!! Terrific!!! read more

Great little old fashioned luncheonette/ Restaurant in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Used to pass it by many times when we were tourists. Now that we live here we started coming here fairly often. The food is consistently good and service is friendly and efficient. Everything we have ordered was served fresh and tasty. We've stayed in the Intercourse area often but never tried this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised it was as good as the reviews stated. Each of us had burgers that were hot and tasty. I really cannot recommend this place enough! Such a cute little set up, where all the locals go for some good food! My favorite is the dish platter, but they have a little bit of everything. I was in Gap, Pennsylvania today, and I found the best reviewed place on Yelp! This lunch place was great. I asked the friendly waitress what was the best thing on the menu. She pointed out the special today- a ham loaf. This was my first time trying it and it was very, very excellent. The ham loaf had pineapple sauce on top of it. I also had mashed potatoes (fair) and applesauce (great). This restaurant was very small and 50% of the people were Amish. I would come here again, and order the ham loaf if it was a special. I would not order the mashed potatoes and try the fries. read more

As someone else said it doesn't look like much on the outside. The food was wonderful homemade cooking. My sister had a hot roast turkey and it was huge. She had pickled eggs the owner makes. I had the chicken croquettes with mashed potatoes and Coleslaw I wouldn't hesitate to eat there again when I'm in this area. The owners daughter waited on us and was extremely nice , and great waitress. The rest of the staff was also the same. read more

There was a Turkey Dinner on special. I had not been here many times and didn't want a boring sandwich with fries, so I went for it not thinking you could go wrong with such a basic entree. Wrong. There were three visible pieces of turkey. I asked the server if I could send it back and order something different. She stated that, "the turkey is shredded up in the stuffing and we can't reuse it so I can't take it off the bill." Instead of arguing with the waitress I packed it up and took it home for my dog.
