Cute place, extremely busy with takeout orders - food was ok, chicken tenders and fries tasted like Sysco - didn't get salad or soup until main meal came out, neither meal received rolls and butter and waitress was very forgetful. Wasn't very impressed overall but might try again for a simple breakfast

Thanks to Yelp cos we probably never would have stopped here otherwise. This is a case of "Don't judge a book by its cover." It may look a little run down on the outside, but on the inside, it's very clean, cute decorations, and although not too big, every table was quickly filled. My spouse had a roast beef and gravy sandwich with mashed potatoes and macaroni salad. Such a huge portion that she had enough for another meal. I got the honey mustard fried chicken sandwich and a cup of chili. Both were so good that there were no leftovers! We also got some tapioca pudding to go. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer and mostly single handedly handled all the tables with another person occasionally bringing food out. Bottom line, don't pass this cute little diner by.

Good coffee, fabulous service, great breakfast. Clean, too! Really...what else do you need? We were starting out a long day of doing some touristy things and shopping. The white horse luncheonette was on our way and did not disappoint. I had an egg and cheese sandwich which looked more like an omelette on an English muffin! Everything was served fresh and hot including an omelette, chipped beef on toast with gravy and a country scramble. One of my friends decided to get an espresso chocolate shake to go. I tasted it and was very jealous...it was delicious! Great breakfast and brunch. Go here.

Service was very friendly and fast but the omelette were out of this world. Hubby and I travel for a living and we tend to try omelette everywhere we go. We have our faves around the country but this place takes the omelette to a new level. Best we have had anywhere. We will be back!!!

Everything is baked right on the premises and the aromas help to fill the air with sweets coming right out of the ovens. Mainly run by the Amish folks, they do hire help as I marveled at the gal with the Steeler's tee shirt on while she was making homemade cinnamon rolls, so I had to buy some of those. This area of the market is huge and I do mean filled to capacity with made from scratch whole of half cakes, cream, custard or fruit pies, breads, rolls, sticky buns, tarts, cobblers, whoopie pies, muffins, apple dumplings, cupcakes, cookies and of course shoofly pie. I know some of you who pay an arm and a leg for a cupcake, but here they are very reasonably priced and just as good and as fancy as the ones you pay top dollar for. I bought a half of a black forest cake, a half pumpkin cheesecake with a sour cream topping, both were so delicious, a few loaves of bread, two packages of freshly baked sandwich rolls, a few whoopie pies and a pumpkin roll, love pumpkin and this roll was filled to the brim with lots of cream cheese filling. I hate to bake, they love to bake and they do it so well. We have very few good bakeries nearby so it is a real pleasure knowing that I have the Dutch Country Bakery close enough for me to stock up the fridge, freezer, pantry and yes it will eventually be stored on our bodies. Oh well what a sweet way to do it.

The Love is better. The space is beautiful, the service is consistently warm, and Stephen Starr's fingerprints are all over it. I love the painted white brick, the floral artwork along the walls, the street-level energy, and the outdoor seating. I also remember taking the elevator upstairs once. I can't remember whether we actually stayed and ate up there or asked to move back downstairs, but the space was charming and extremely private. It would be a great setting for a group dinner or event. Personally, I prefer downstairs. It's darker, livelier, and I like being at street level. The menu historically leaned more heavily into elevated Southern comfort food, which has never been my favorite style of cooking. That's probably why I've tended to prefer The Love for lunch over dinner, especially when Philadelphia has so many Starr restaurants competing for the same night out. I used to get what I remember as a salmon and farro bowl, although the menu appears to have evolved since then. Whatever the exact iteration was, I loved it. Fish and farro are both right in my wheelhouse. I've also enjoyed the kale salad and other lighter dishes. The thing I remember most vividly, though, is the cornbread. It is outrageously good and reason enough to order something for the table. I also give Starr credit for continuing to broaden the range of food styles in his portfolio. Once you've built restaurants across Italian, French, Mexican, English, steakhouses, seafood, and the rest, there are only so many obvious boxes left to check. The Love feels like its own lane: distinctly American, approachable, comfort-driven, and still polished enough to feel like a Starr restaurant. Looking at the menu now, it seems broader than I remember, with more options that appeal to me, and I'd be psyched to go back. The Love probably isn't the first Starr restaurant I'd choose purely based on cuisine, but that says more about the depth of his Philadelphia portfolio than it does about this restaurant. The room, hospitality, location, and execution are all excellent. I'd happily come here any day. Starr doesn't miss.
