We shared the Tonight's Crostini, which came with four different crostinis, along with the truffled country-style pâté, tahini Caesar (topped with a full anchovy), tomato bucatini, charred leek calamarata, and the mushroom pizza special. The portions are on the smaller side, but everything was delicious. Shared among five people, it was enough, though I'd recommend ordering one extra dish. We had a lovely meal here to celebrate my husband's birthday although a lot of the menu was sold out. We made a reservation and had no issues getting seated right away. Our server was fabulous - guiding us through the menu to help narrow down our drink and meal choices. I ordered the Spritz Happens (drink) and the Burrata Salad with Chicken. I'm a big fan of the strawberry vinaigrette this comes with! My husband ordered the Nduja Scrambled Eggs on Toast with a side of bacon. He's very much a fan of softer/runnier eggs so this was the perfect meal for him. This was our second visit to High street. Based on both experiences, I found the food to be very consistent along with service. The halibut was cooked perfectly, and I enjoy the fresh spring vegetables that came with it - and the beluga lentils! The rock shrimp pasta was the star, well seasoned, savory deliciousness and a perfect bite to the pasta. I loved that the menu was updated with seasonal ingredients compared to our visit in the winter. The restaurant itself is bright, well lit and inviting. Came to High Street for July 4th and had such a great experience! We got a salad, pizza (pepperoni and another with arugula and prosciutto), and chicken pasta. The pizza was definitely the highlight - we loved it so much that we ended up getting a third. They were also able to make us custom mocktails after we gave them a flavor profile, which was fun! Took my daughter to Philly for the weekend and stumbled into High Street on Market for brunch without a reservation -- walked right in, no drama. Already off to a good start. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, service was genuinely great (attentive without being hovery), and then the food showed up and honestly just shut us both up for a few minutes. I had the cipollini onion bialy with dill-cured salmon, fromage blanc, and all the fixins -- and I mean ALL the fixins. Soft-boiled egg, capers, pickled everything, microgreens, tomatoes. It looked like a still life painting and tasted even better. The bialy itself was perfectly chewy, the salmon silky, and the fromage blanc was a smarter, lighter move than the usual cream cheese. Plate was basically clean. My 12-year-old went for the cast iron Dutch baby with roasted apples, malted caramel, and maple syrup. It arrived puffed up and golden, and she demolished it. No notes. This place earns every bit of its reputation. If you're in Philly and skipping it, you're making a mistake. read more

High Street deserves a lot of recognition! It's a cozy place in the historic Franklin Building. I'd describe it as chic and I really enjoyed the art in the restaurant. Service was top notch. I had previously come here for brunch for my sister's birthday and was interested in trying their dinner items. Food Ordered: * worth trying - [Charred Savoy Cabbage, Chanterelle Beurre Blanc*]: I liked the smoky flavor of the cabbage and thought that the beurre blanc paired well with it. - [Gently Poached Shrimp, Castelvetrano Salsa Verde, Toasted Pistachios]: I don't personally like olives and didn't realize that castelvetrano is a type of olive so I'm a bit biased in not recommending this dish. But, I also wasn't a big fan of the taste of the pistachios used or the combination of textures. - [Spaccatelli, Trumpet Mushrooms, Buckwheat, Leeks, Egg Yolk*]: Conversely, I liked the textures and flavors of this dish, with the buckwheat bringing a nice crunchy element. - [Pizza with Delicata Squash, Burrata, Honey, Calabrian Chili, Oregano]: The crust was fantastic and the perfect amount of crispy. I liked the flavors except for the fresh oregano leaves, which I didn't prefer the taste of, but thought that the pizza was a bit too sweet as I ate more of it. There was also too much moisture from the toppings causing the bottom crust to become progressively soggy. I would recommend their pizza because of the A1 crust but I would probably choose a different set of toppings next time. I do think this set of toppings was worth trying though. Would I go back?: Definitely for their pizza and baked goods! When I had their brunch, those were the two things I liked the most and the pizza from dinner was the best item from that meal. Stopped in for lunch and it's a fairly cozy layout inside decorated nicely. Welcomed in and sat quickly, though the bar or low top tables are best. I disliked the half height stool tables as others mentioned. As to the food, the bread is phenomenal. Crusty with a soft inside, sourdough style. Slightly warm so the butter melts. Had the niçoise tuna salad which was quite sizable and all very fresh ingredients. Dressing was a perfect amount to toss the salad in and didn't weigh it down much or make it soggy. This was our first time at High Street and we will definitely be returning. My wife and I went for a date night. From the time we arrived everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We were early for our reservations so the hostess sat us at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. We both had the Vermont amigio which was great and the bartenders were so friendly and helped us with recommendations for dinner. When we were sat our waiter was also super helpful and friendly. We started with the Caesar salad which was large and very tasty. Then we got the black garlic knots which were insanely delicious. Lastly came the kennett square mushrooms which was incredible and by far my favorite dish of the night. For our entrees I got the hanger steak which was plated beautifully and was very good. My wife got the pepperoni pizza which was extremely tasty! We couldn't pass up on dessert even though we were beyond full. We shared the butter cake which really ended our night with a great farewell taste. I would 100% recommend High Street to anyone! From the ambiance, service and food all were 10/10. What a wonderful little treat of a place nestled next to its sister coffee shop. It's a nice spot to enjoy a hearty Italian inspired meal. They work with seasonal ingredients, and make their own bread with smelt flour. We enjoyed the warm olives, stracciatella salad, and their allium pizza - plus their peach cobbler for dessert! The ingredients were fresh and I like the twist in flavor profiles of dishes familiar but the added edits were a great experience! Our service was decent, a little absent minded at times but overall got the job done. In the end, they were kind enough to provide us with a loaf of their bread to take home - so nice!! We had dinner at High Street using our Chase Sapphire dining credits. We were able to snag a reserved reservation through the card, getting a prime spot on a Friday night. We are lucky to live close enough to walk, so the location is ideal for us. Even with res, we did wait a little bit to be seated, which was no big deal. The restaurant is decently large, although it can get a little loud. Our server was a little slow to take our order, but the food came out at a decent pace after that (it actually could have been a little slower with each dish). For drinks, I opted for red wine (it was a cold December day, red hit the spot!) and my husband opted for a cocktail. For food, we didn't want to make choices, so we went for the chef's tasting, letting the kitchen select all our dishes. Our server didn't fully explain how many dishes to expect or which sections we'd get items from, so we were a little in the dark of what to expect, which made it hard to pace. We were started off with some olives, which were briny and smooth, a great starter. We then had a pate with grilled bread, a mixture of veggies, and a savory jam. I'm not a pate person, but there version was doable and tasty, especially with the accompaniments. We then had a shrimp dish with an olive salsa and pistachios - this was fresh and light with a good blend of flavors. Our pasta dish featured mushrooms, leeks, and an egg yolk that got blended into the dish upon mixing. This was quite a unique pasta dish that was good, but for how well Philly does pasta, didn't rank among my top dishes. The black garlic knots came out around this same time. A Yelp fan favorite, I was excited to try them; they were quite good, so soft and with delish savory flavors. This was one of the highlights of the meal! Our first bigger dish was the roast half chicken, featuring potatoes and leeks alongside the meat. The chicken featured such crispy skin and was yet so moist inside. The potatoes were OK, nothing too exciting as a side, but the sauce underlying the entire dish made for a nice pairing. The second bigger dish was their trout, accompanied by chickpeas, sweet peppers, and a cream sauce. This was another nice dish, with tender fish and crispy chickpeas balancing each other; however, it wasn't super memorable. Our meal was rounded out with a little bread pudding cake with a caramel sauce for dessert. This was heavier than I would have liked given all the dishes we already enjoyed, but still had excellent flavors. The chef's tasting had a ton of food (we took a lot home), and at $75 per person, it was quite a good deal. I wish we could have swapped one of the bigger dishes for a pizza to try that out, and I wish we had better warning of what dishes to expect from our server once we started. While it was a great deal, I probably will just order a la cart next time to better curate my own menu. Nonetheless, this was a fun date night, and we appreciated Chase Sapphire's dining credits giving us an excuse to try a new-to-us restaurant! read more

I have been to High Street three times over the past year for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The food has been fresh and delicious (with one exception), the cocktails and wine are great. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and has a really nice atmosphere day and night. Some standouts for me on the food are of course all the assorted baked treats, the sandwiches, the nicoise salad, and the delicious ice creams. The staff are friendly and nice, but the service can be slow and servers seem to disappear for stretches of time between dishes. The one exception I would like to note is that the half chicken we ordered (while mostly delicious) had considerably more pink than it should have. We mentioned this to the server but only got a polite but vague "would you like us to do anything about this?" At this point we had finished eating (around the undercooked parts) and did not really want any more food but it would have been a nice gesture if they adjusted the bill or even checked in more about the dish. I just expected a higher standard for food and hopefully the service given my previous meals there and how nice the restaurant is. Overall though, the experiences have been nice, but maybe I will be back for brunch or lunch and not dinner. read more

The best brunch I've had in a long time, High Street is delivering even better than what I remember from when they were High Street on Market. The restaurant is cute, welcoming, and feels like a bakery + restaurant that you just never want to leave. The service is kind, caring, prompt, and doesn't feel like its trying too hard. Then the food, well that's the best part! Hands down the best Dutch Baby I've had ever. I love Dutch Babies, but i've never had anything this good - the cook was perfect, fluffy, eggy, yummy. The butter was out of this world and the fruits were so fresh. The Labne Zaatar danish also spectacular. I love all the flavors here and the lack of sweetness. It's really great - like go get one now and munch on it! The coffee and juices were both good, I didn't drink alcohol this time, but everything non-alcoholic was great. I had a new addition to the menu which was the soft shell crab sandwich. I love soft shell crabs, so I must say, this was such a treat. The lettuce with the green goddess dressing, the sauce on the juicy jumbo soft shell crab, the perfect bun, the great tomato...like wow - I don't know what they're doing back there, but you would be hard pressed to find a better soft shell crab sandwich anywhere in the world! High Street exceeded my expectations. Be sure to make a reservation as the space is not large and if you're not a fan of high seating/stools! They're not the most comfortable. BUT, the food really impressed me. I'll break down the food below: 1. Tuna Carpaccio (smoked labneh, horseradish, carmen peppers, caramelized shallots) - you have to eat the tuna in bites with all of the ingredients otherwise you'll miss the flavor combination. It pretty good! 2. Smoked malt fazzoletti, duck confit, turnbroc greens, tomato - this pasta dish really blew me away. The flavor was unexpected and super good. It's not heavy at all! 3. Jersey tomato, mozzarella, basil - this is a margherita pizza, the crust was crispy and perfect with the right flavors. 4. Hanger steak, herb butter sauce, malted shoestring fries - I got the steak in medium rare and it was perfect. The sauce is amazing and the fries are crispy. I really enjoyed this dish and I would get this again. 5. Zhi Ma - this is their sesame based cocktail that is creamy. Not spirit forward and just the right balance in my opinion. 6. Caramel Apple Sundae - I would ask the server for more ice cream for this. It was a lot of whipped cream and cooked apples rather than ice cream. Flavors were good though. Updated Review: We were actually going to the Bread Room, a bakery and workshop that the owner of High Street opened this week, located on Chestnut between 8th and 9th. After we picked up a few things for dinner, we had lunch at High Street located on the 1st floor of The Franklin Residences at 834 Chestnut where we used to live. We enjoyed many meals here and were glad to come back for another. Today I had Spaccatelli, trumpet mushrooms, leeks, buckwheat and egg yolk. It was amazing! The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente and once the egg yolk was pierced, it married the sauce. Mike had the roast pork, broccoli rabe kimchi, provolone and long hot pepper sandwich, also a very good choice. All the bread and pastries are made in house and you can watch them work while you eat. 5 stars! read more

I'm always looking for a spot to convince me to enjoy a brunch menu. Ultimately, this spot did not do that. The menu itself seems pretty diverse but as I was looking at it, there was not so much I was interested in. We ultimately went with the Dutch baby and the Caesar salad. Started off with the Kouign amann, which was lovely. Flaky, good amount of sesame cream. Aesthetically pleasing. We were torn between this and a donut and at the advice of the waitress got this, to our advantage. The Dutch baby we got because it looked good when someone else did. This was a miss, for sure. The outside was flaky where I feel like it could've been crispy. But the real problem lay in the middle, which was far too eggy (the dough, not the actual egg). The best ingredient was the mushroom, which couldn't really save this dish in the end. And it was physically difficult to eat. The Caesar salad was nice. There is a LOT going on in it, though. Seeds, cheese, crouton. Very busy salad. What bothered me the most about this are two things: 1) it's hard to justify a Caesar salad without meat that is $17 and then to ask for $6 more to add meat and 2) when we asked why the chicken had to be fried (don't get me wrong the fried chicken was actually really tasty) and why it couldn't be grilled, we were given a kind of shrug answer (who wants a default fried chicken Caesar salad?). The experience itself was also not the greatest. The food itself took a strangely long time. I imagine it was the Dutch baby as it probably didn't take 40 minutes to make a Caesar salad. We sat at one of the high tops and this may be because I'm on the taller side, but the stools are either too tall or the table is too low, as it was weirdly uncomfortable how much I had to bend over to eat the food. Great spot. Food is tasty and the space is nice with a good vibe. Highly recommend the 'leave it to us' menu option. You get a nice variety of dishes and plenty of food, a solid value.
