Stopped in here after a day at the beach-and it was hopping! We still got fast,excellent service-and terrific food! I had the Burger with Swiss cheese and Mushrooms and it was so,so good! Great times this Saturday at White Elephant after hitting the beach. We sat outside by the water , we split a fried gator app w spicy sauce ( so dang good..crunchy on the outside, , soft and juicy on the inside ), one of the best gator meals I ve had in a while , my friend had a cold Prosecco split, I thoroughly enjoyed Miami vice w a floater. If you're on manasota key and you're experiencing all the key has to offer, you must stop here. On any given night, you'll find live music, reasonably priced drinks and an ever present hard working and friendly staff. The crowd is typical varied local 'old Florida' and fun to watch. We've never had the food so I cannot comment. But the rest of the experiences have been great. read more

The food was fine but extremely overpriced for the serving size I got. Our server got our drinks fast and got us our food but besides those two instances didn't return back to the table once in the two hours we were here. The atmosphere is awesome and feels very beachfront Americana, it's really a great vibe in there. My party came to this place specifically for karaoke but the guy they had for karaoke had the worst system I've ever seen for karaoke. You know how normally you sign up in order and then just go through the queue of people? So you just keep tacking onto the end making it fair for anyone to sign up? This guys system was nothing like that at all. Basically at 7pm when karaoke began everyone signed up in order of when to go. Everyone is free to keep going up there and signing up, but here's the kicker: he gives perpetual priority to whoever is earlier in the queue. By that I mean that at any point in the order somebody from earlier in the order can come up and put a sign in and will go next. This meant that my group that got here at 9pm never got to go because people earlier in the queue kelt coming up and going again. It's honestly hard to explain how bad this system was cause I couldn't wrap my head around it, it made no sense to me and I've never seen it done that way before. Our orders and rating were: chicken Philly w no peppers or onions w fries (8/10), chicken Philly (7.5/10) - thought it had a teriyaki taste, bacon cheese burger w fries (7.4/10), chicken sandwich w fries (7/10), chicken fingers w fries (6/10). The place was very nice in terms of having options to sit & a nice view. Music was also good. Overall rating is 7.18/10 for food but we will bump to 8/10 for Ambiance. I love how many seating options there are, if you want to be close to the band you can be, but if you're not interested it's easy to find a seat away from the stage. Disappointing only begins to describe our dining experience with the White Elephant. When we came inside, we noticed a number of patrons smoking at the bar. We asked for a table outside which was readily available. And - the guests at the two tables nearest us were also smoking. No escaping the second hand smoke. Rick ordered the steak sandwich - medium rare. Not sure why they give you a choice. The sandwich was well done - as in - overcooked. The sandwich came on a toasted hoagie bun. The meat was tough and not tasty. Fortunately they had A-1 sauce to help with the taste. Fries were - fine. I ordered the coconut shrimp "dinner" - which comes with rice and a vegetable medley of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. Um hum - that vegetable medley was more like a solo (the carrots) with backup singers of broccoli stems and a few pieces of cauliflower. The broccoli floret you see in my picture is the only one on my plate. Those veggies were steamed - but zero seasoning. No butter, no salt, nothing. Just the carrots and their veggie friends. The rice? I thought it was a bad rice-a-Roni mix - but that's giving too much credit to Rice-a-Roni. I'm not really sure how they managed to get this side dish of rice to be so tasteless and bad- but they did. The shrimp? It's hard to do coconut shrimp poorly. And frankly - the shrimp were fine. I ate all 8 of my shrimp. But the sauce? Heinz sweet and sour in a package? I could have gone to McDonald's to get that! You can't make your own shrimp sauce of sweet Thai Chili? Mango pineapple? Cilantro melon? Honey and orange? Seriously - I can think of quite a few inexpensive and easy options to make your own sauce that would taste much better than the sugar laden Heinz sweet and sour that you serve. (I asked about the veggies with the meal - I did not ask about the sauces available for the shrimp - shame on me.) I ordered one of their "tropical drinks" - a vodka lemonade that would be $6 - $8 anywhere else in the area - but was $12 at White Elephant. The "smart" patrons were those who had a friend with a boat. They pulled up to the dock, got some drinks to go - and headed back out. This place looks like it probably shouldn't have opened yet after the hurricane. The place smells like mold. The hostess area is full of boxes and storage and junk. Like all they did was rinse the surge out and opened. We asked to sit outside and the walls are falling and peeling off from the siding. The menu is extremely limited and expensive for what you get. The food comes from a little trailer in the back in styrofoam boxes. We ordered grilled chicken sandwiches and the chicken had these black pieces on them like the grill had not been cleaned in forever. The sides are even more limited. We each got a bag of chips. This is a local watery whole and a whole it is. Definitely not my kind of place. Won't be back. read more

Went out for dinner with a plan to walk over to watch sunset right after, we had an hour and a half till sunset. They had many open tables and we got seated right away. service was slow, waitress was not friendly or helpful, we sat around waiting to order, then food took a while, it came out as ordered without mistakes, therefore 2 stars and not one, but, frankly, food quality was disappointing as well. My blackened grouper was dry and flavorless, coconut shrimp was soggy in gross oil, and the sauces were prepackaged - can you make some homemade tartar and cocktail sauce, you're on the beach selling seafood! Anyway we missed the sunset sitting and waiting for very mediocre food. Had visitors from out of town, so that was embarrassing that we even chose that place. Hate to give a bad review since I spent 10 years in restaurant business in Florida as a server and so did my husband. read more

Waiting quite some time to come here. Heard great things about it but let me tell you, if you want to experience disappointment this is the place. The two stars are solely for the singer that was there live (he did a great job) and the burger. For a place by the beach that claims seafood as a strong suit they really drop the ball. 24 dollars for a single fillet of bland grouper, 3 pieces of potatoes (they looked seasoned but 0 flavor), and frozen vegetables. The burger was halfway decent which was their saving grace. Truly not a place I will come back to nor recommend unless you are looking for a place to waste your time and money at. Came in for a quick beer and fries ( boat races this weekend. Our favorite place is under construction right now . Was once here before and docked a boat and stopped in for some lunch and a cold beer and loved the overall food and atmosphere. While vacationing down in the area, stopped in for a few beers and some dinner on a Friday night. I was by myself so opted to sit at the bar and was soon sipping a Cigar City Jai Alai, which was their only IPA on draftbat the time. As I was enjoying my beer after traveling into the area, Tropical Avenue was warming up for an evening perfor. The bar tenders were friendly as well as the locals who also were seated at the bar. Ended up getting a plain burger which was decent. My next beer was a Fort Myers High Five IPA from the can. Despite being from the can, option to drink from a frosted glass on a hot summer evening was there and seized the moment. The bans sounded great and worked with mixed crowd engaging them in their performance. Probably would have stuck around longer, but the sun was setting and kids were interested in a sunset swim in the gulf so joined them amd enjoyed some more beer on the beach. White Elephant is exactly what I was looking for. They had cold beer and a good burger. Glad I stopped in. read more

Despite having no indoor seating that was air conditioned, this place's atmosphere was very relaxing, albeit hot lol. They had fans put out to cool you down however! The staff was friendly and eager to help, and allowed me to be picky with my order! They got my order spot on and did it without hesitation. The food was amazing, and I highly recommend the BBQ. Their sauce was pretty good and it came with plenty of it. I saw boats docking to eat here and you could watch the bay while you ate, it was overall a very nice experience. The price was pretty high, but the portions make it well worth it! read more

I primarily go here when a friend of mine is playing/ singing. The food is bar food and not bad. The drinks are ok too. Today however I paid my bill with cash, a fifty dollar bill. I clipped it to the ticket with the clothes pin, while the waitress was standing there. I handed it directly to her. I left a five dollar tip( twenty percent), and started to walk home. she ran after me and told me I hadn't paid the bill and had only left five dollars. seriously? I handed the money directly to her. She took my word(which she should have). I told her I could leave my cell number and she said no. If you go there it is casual and fun but if you pay cash, even if you hand it to them, tell them what you are handing them So they don't become confused. read more

I wanted to enjoy a nice birthday lunch with my mom. I accidentally parked in the lot for White Elephant meaning to go to the Sand Bar. After dropping my mom off next door, the man yelled at me to move my car. I tried to explain that my mom had the key fob and I needed to get it. He wouldn't let me leave my car, so I called my mom. He proceeded to yell at me and my 80-year-old mother that they wouldn't want our business and to "go back up North". She lives in Punta Gorda. He was the most rude man I have ever come across and I can't believe he had the audacity to yell at an old woman! We made a simple mistake pulling into the wrong lot! I would never have chosen this restaurant for our lunch based on his attitude alone! We have always enjoyed the Sand Bar and they will always get our business! read more

Place seems to be a real dive bar. Walked in and I could smell the cigarette smoke immediately. On the way out, same thing. It was the bartender smoking at the bar. Kind of gross. Menu is too big. One of us got Peel and eat shrimp. Never saw so much butter in my life. It was really shrimp scampi but totally drowned in butter. I got the fish Reuben with mahi-mahi. The fish was excellent. The rest Just didn't really taste like a Reuben, but I guess I should've expected that. Overall, just a total dive bar feeling in a place I won't go back to again. read more

DON'T EVER EAT SEAFOOD HERE! First night in Manasota Key so we walked to the local place for dinner and to listen to music. We arrived at 7 pm on a Friday, the band was playing with few customers in the restaurant. We were seated on the deck, away from the band, all was good so far, but then it changed. Service: All of our food was brought out at the same time. All of it, appetizer, salads and entrees. Food: I love fresh oysters so I ordered a dozen to start and was told that they were out of oysters. At 7pm on a Friday night they were out of one of their "specials". Should have been my first red flag. For my main I had peel and eat shrimp with garlic bread. First of all the "garlic bread" was a hogie bun with garlic powder shook on it. Next, the shrimp was a small portion for the price and was Publix frozen out of a bag, it wasn't fresh. My wife had the grilled grouper with vegetables...the ubiquitous soggy vegetable medley. The fish was overcooked and clearly not fresh. Maybe their bar food is okay, but stay away from the seafood. read more

Avoid avoid avoid - go to the numerous other options nearby. Do not give this business your time or money! An employee treated my TODDLER terribly! We walked in and the hostess (older lady with a strong jaw line, not wearing a mask) was incredibly rude and flat out mean to us. My husband and I have worked at some point in our lives in the service industry so we are extremely polite and considerate to restaurants employees - we were confused about her behavior. The only thing we could think as to why is she would be so obviously angry towards us because we had masks on (including my toddler, who loves to wear hers and asks for it!). She threw the menus down and asked if we changed our mind and wanted to leave when she came back. We were so perplexed as to why she would act this way but decided to stick it out because my toddler was hungry. I had to go up to her and ask for a high chair and she brought it and angrily pushed it at the table, and then took it away before we were done with it, causing us to have to hold our toddler on our laps. The only reason we didn't get up and leave was because our waitress had already brought us waters and seemed genuinely nice. We said "thank you" politely to the hostess as we left and she ignored us and stared in the air as if we did not exist. I've never had "a hostess" or any restaurant employee treat me so poorly for no reason -- but how sad and low to take whatever misplaced anger she had out on a little kid. We ordered one thing for my toddler to eat and the menu was priced lower than what we were charged (we were overcharged). The food was pretty unappealing, which didn't surprise us after this experience. The tables were also extremely close together on the patio deck so if you are hoping to have a little space for comfort and/or social distancing, do not come here. To all the families out there in Manasota Beach - stay far far away! Later that night I had anxiety thinking about what she might have done to our food for our little if she had the chance. Side note - we did end up popping over to SandBar next door and had a WONDERFUL experience with great service. Much more family friendly and GENERALLY friendly and sane.
