Eating at any White Castle is an acquired taste because you have to get used to the retro, kind of worn-out decor of the place. You also have to get used to the smell of fried onions. They use the onions on the burgers, cooking the onions on top of the burgers, which makes the place kinda sweaty. There's no good odor in any White Castle, and this one has that fried onion smell. In terms of the taste of the food, it's all right. I mean, the food comes out as you'd expect--the sliders are decent. This particular location on Penn Avenue has a bad reputation, but this spot has a lot of older people who come here for a quick bite. It's a small bite too. Customer service is on the older side. A lot of the employees are generally nice, but they're very slow in making the food. I wouldn't suspect they're paying a lot, but you know, this is just a casual dining area. You would have to go out of your way to come here, or if you live around the area or if you drive, it'll probably be more convenient. read more

I've been coming to this location for 30 years. It's not nearly as consistent as it was in years past - sometimes the White Castles are dry; on other visits, it is classic White Castle. I came back home to NYC last weekend and drove past a White Castle and I HAD to go there. I've missed it so much, I know Walgreen's sells them in their frozen department but it's just not the same. Upon walking in I was somewhat disgusted. there was trash all over the place, napkins and soda lids on counters. I don't understand how they can allow the eating area to look like that. I still ordered my food though because my stomach was set on it. I ordered the combo, a sack of 10 sliders, 5 with cheese 5 without, onion rings and fries and two drinks. ( I was hungry ok). It didn't take too long for the food to be ready so that was great. I ate the food when I reached my destination and I must say it tastes just like I remembered. I wanted to rate this place more than 2 stars but walking in and seeing it like that turned me off. My Red Lobster meals were never short of $30 but today for under ten bucks I got 4 sliders plus 2 with cheese and a LARGE thick Shake (that only cost me $3.99 but will last for 3 days) & I LOVE me some WHITE CASTLE THICK SHAKES because they use a loads of ice cream and they even & they "silverware" along with plenty of napkins and ketchup! My 3 orders from Red Lobster from right here at Gateway Mall NEVER even put in napkins and last Sunday's order didn't even have butter for my baked potato it was just a dried up potato in a box. My order also included shrimp scampi but there was so much dressing and sauce on the pasta that I couldn't even taste it. The whole meal was just horrible and I eventually threw it out. Today I'm going to enjoy my WHITE CASTLES... they DID NOT forget my big fat shake and the best part of all was the gorgeous guy who delivered it right to my apartment door! He was so gorgeous that he looked like a chocolate candy bar and I could have sworn that he was 50 Cent! LOL (I think I'm gonna ask for him to deliver ALL of my orders from now on! What's the point of downloading the mobile white castle app? About a week ago I downloaded it, signed up for an account, placed an order, paid in advance, and set a pick up time. I arrive right on time, and they hadnt even started making my order yet. Just went there for lunch with my coworker and we both, ordered the fish slider combo. The service was great, we sat down to eat and half way through a fish slider, my coworker went to add more ketchup to her fish and lifted the bun to see remnants of what was an insect....a wing was so visibly cooked on the fish. I will give credit to the manager who refunded us our money but lunch and appetites were ruined. One star for the service but this establishment should receive a "C" grade from NYC health inspectors. read more
