This place is dirty inside, looked like things hadn't been cleaned in a long time. One of the coffee mugs had lipstick and the cream curdled. The jelly is in a shared jar and the lid was crusted dust. The food was cheap- homemade corned beef hash was all potatoes and barely a sliver of corned beef. Just had a completely indifferent meal- lacking flavor and advertised ingredients. I ordered a taco salad on a grilled tortilla. Not one speck of seasoning (Mexican or otherwise such as salt and pepper) no tortilla, no jalapenos. My companion's dish was equally bereft. Won't be returning. read more

I had an eggs benedict from their specials menu, it had sausage and fennel. I forget the name of the dish but it was life changing. It makes me wish i lived closer to the Whistle Stop so i could eat there more regularly. That benny has to make it to the regular menu! Good people and really great food. read more

This place should be closed dirty and the cook has an attitude this place is filthy where do I begin I had to ask for a clean mug 3 times the cook said well they all have ringsin them as if this is ok and acceptable hello update your washer or get a better cleaner! the plate design is from the 70's i know because i grew up with that Corelle design, the jelly jars lids were dusty and dirty on every table they store their iced beverages in pickle jars that have seen better days the table was sticky, soda was stored on the floor, the walls had splatters of build up grease, lower and upper walls next to the stools?? the cook fingernails and hands were so dirty black under each fingernail, she didn't have no apron she had a huge container of yogurt and ate out of it like a uncivilized beast in front of everyone this place was slow when I went in I wonder why!! the food how do you mess up scrambled eggs dry and it wasn't scrambled parts were yellow parts were white it should be yellow period, the potatoes aka home fries were the size of glaciers, the plastic holder that they have the specials on was cracked and you guessed it dusty and sticky dirty, I can't imagine this place being open for much longer Oh and the salt shaker was empty on the table I know a 4 table restaurant that is dead must be hard to refill items and clean them. I go out to eat a lot this has to top the list of gross and grossest place, I didn't see a bathroom in this place I would of been afraid to use it, I bet the toilet would have many rings in it and they would be out of toilet paper! The food here is the absolute BEST!!! A group of us from Goodspeed's "Guys & Dolls" came here to celebrate the morning after our opening weekend! Norma took excellent care of us and we have all been back multiple times since! We wanted to take a drive and find somewhere new for breakfast. We had seen this restaurant so we thought we'd give it a try. Okay, I understand cutting costs and you don't always need ambience, but eating on dirty picnic tables and being served tap water out of jugs into disposable cups is a little much. I wanted French toast and was told they had run out of French toast batter. How does that happen? I had to order eggs, which were not cooked to medium as ordered. The real turnoff is the "public" pitchers of water and the jam jars being shared by everyone. We will not go back. read more

THE place for breakfast in the lower Connecticut River Valley. Fabulous Eggs Benedict of many different varieties. Great home fries, bacon, etc. as well. Don't forget the grilled honey bun with lots of butter as an appetizer!! You can also get it as French toast but I have not tried that yet. The joint is tiny so you have to shoehorn in and the floor is so pitched that the coffee almost slides off the table (exaggeration). I went early on a Wednesday morning with a friend of mine and had one of the best breakfast dining experiences of my life. The food is impeccable and the ladies are super nice. I liked it so much I made the drive back on Friday with another friend for lunch. We were able to order, walk to the bank, and come back just in time for our food to be ready. Once again it was absolutely delicious and everyone was super friendly. If you're passing through the area you definitely owe it to yourself to swing by and have a bite to eat. I wanted to love this place because of the reviews but the food fell short (but service was great.) Bacon was so overcooked that it all crumbled on the plate. The whites of the over medium eggs were brown and a little crispy so I think the griddle was too hot. One of the yokes was also broken. I received a very small portion of hash browns that were good but some were over cooked (they were transitioning to lunch and I think they were on the griddle for a while.). Coffee had good flavor but is very strong. I'll give them another shot because of the rave reviews and hope for better results. read more

Okay I was debating giving three stars, I have been coming to this place for years and everytime the food is usually up to par. Unfortunately I had gone in and received mediocrity. I had ordered eggs benedict with the corn beef hash. As soon as i looked at it I had discovered right away that I was missing hollandaise sauce. Having previously worked in a restaurant I hate to send things back so I ignored it, until I stabbed into the egg. It was way to overcooked and didnt make up for the lack of hollandaise. The waitress came over and asked how everything was and I was reluctant to say anything, especially here, but I did and this became the first plate I have ever sent back to the "kitchen". On top of all this my girlfriend had ordered a veggie eggs benedict. Spinach, tomato, and mushroom. She hates mushrooms for whatever reason and ordered it without. What she received was a garden lovers eggs benedict, or a hybrid version of it. It says on the menu that the garden lovers comes served on eggplant instead of an english muffin, she got an english muffin. So they got that right from the original order. Along with that was artichoke (which she also does not enjoy, trust me Ive tried), fresh spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and yes......sauteed mushrooms. Her being just as reluctant as me didn't say anything. She pushed all she didnt like to the side and was lucky to have hollandaise. This was her trying to be adventurous since I told her to try something different then two eggs, toast, and bacon. I'm not sure if she will be trusting my judgement again.
