I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat while browsing through the Block 37 mall. I got the turkey bacon avocado sandwich combo. The sandwich was nasty and loaded with way too many onions. I also felt it was too over priced $20 for a sandwich combo meal. Service was pretty busy and it didn't help that the cashier barely spoke English. Bhumi and her husband, the owners, provided over 550 assorted sandwich box lunches for several suburban police departments, each box packed with a fresh, well-made sandwich, chips, and a cookie. Not only was the food excellent and consistently well put together, but the service was outstanding. The owners were incredibly thoughtful, friendly, and clearly take pride in what they do. This 'Wich Shop has tasty, toasted sandwiches, a more than clean restaurant, and staffed by super nice people! I was sad to see others haven't experienced the same. :-( Bummer. I highly recommend you give 'em a chance, you won't regret it! There was a young lady helping patrons order their sandwich and a very friendly man to take your order. Service was quick & accurate. My only suggestion to them would be to cook the fries a little longer as ours were ever so slightly underdone. However, the large portion size more than made up for this! There is probably a million combinations to choose from at this sandwich shop. Grab a brown bag and just start marking off what you want. If you order a sandwich that has a special sauce/side (like au jus) you need to write it on your bag and inform the cashier. I ordered a normal size roast beef with au jus (Italian beef) and fries. It was a lot of food! The fries were amazing and my beagle pup was happy I had half an order to bring home. The employees were not overly friendly nor rude. The atmosphere was just kind of "meh." The restaurant was clean and the food was tasty - ingredients all tasted fresh and everything is made to order. It is rather pricey ($17 for the regular -smallest- sized sandwich, fries, and a regular fountain drink), but enough for leftovers/to share if you are not super hungry. Location is excellent and there are SO MANY options. There is a lot of seating but I'd prefer to order food to go and eat it in my hotel room. read more

I ordered the grinder, which has 3 kinds of meats. I'm not sure it had 3 slices of meat. All I saw was lettuce. The music is so loud you can't hear hear them call your order 10+ minutes after ordering one sandwich. I also ordered a large drink, put ice in the cup, and filled it with their exclusive Mountain Dew Vibe. Tasted it and it was pure carbonated water so I poured it back out. Apparently this was the last of the ice. I let one of the employees know and his excuse was that it's close to the end of the day (it was 7:30). Every time I do the survey for the free cookie (same guy when I dropped my shake n the cup cracked didn't want to give me another cup)at the register says they don't honor it. He reads the receipt aloud like he's unaware of what they offer on there sales receipt .. I added spicy brown mustard, peppers and pickles which was a nice touch. The service was pretty fast and nice but my sandwich was not up to par. The meats were very skimpy. My sandwich had the potential to be good if it was a full sandwich and not just vegetables and bread. Really disappointed. Ordered from here for the 1st time and got the "Wicked" with pepper jack, provolone, and cheddar cheese. What I got was some bread with 3 slices of super thinly cut pepperoni, one piece of undercooked bacon, 1 thin slice each of turkey, roast beef, and provolone. No ham and 2 of the 3 cheeses were missing. It was a sad looking sandwich that wasn't dressed at all (no lettuce, tomatoes or sauce). The pepperoni overwhelmed the entire sandwich. Maybe it is a more balanced sandwich if there actually is enough ham, turkey, roast beef, and 3 cheeses along with being properly dressed. Don't know. Location, Location, Location. That's what I always hear about what is key in a business. This place is located off the main drag a short walk. Make sure you use MapQuest or a GPS, or you could miss it. We had reservations at 5:45 but arrived around 5:10 pm. No problem - they greeted and seated us promptly. After perusing the wine list, we selected a reliable Cabernet (Hall, home of Little Bunny Foo Foo) and settled in. The bread came out - 7 to 8 inch diameter loaf, very soft, warm, and went well with the butter that came with it. For our appetizer, we split a Caesar Salad, which had anchovies on it as it should. What it could have used was just a bit more Caesar dressing. For the main course, we each ordered one of their Filets, which were the star of the meal. The Filets were very tender and tasty - I added a little salt and pepper to mine. For sides, we had their roasted mushrooms and sauteed spinach. Steaks are ala carte by the way. Some of the other entrees aren't, so look carefully. Sides are "family style" but I'd say "small family" in contrast to some other places. The sides were tasty. We finished our meal with Chocolate Ganache Cake which we split. It was very rich and chocolatey. The goods - our server was outstanding. Very attentive and polite and helpful. He offered to have their sommelier advise us on wines if we would have liked. The water glasses stayed filled, the wine glasses stayed filled, and the plates were cleared promptly by the staff. Location - this has a very nice interior. Clear views, comfortable temperatures on a cold day in Chicago, and nice floors. The one problem is the noise level. All hard surfaces inside the restaurant mean when the volume picks up, it gets loud. Not "shout across the table" loud but loud enough to notice. Tip: Get there early - it's quieter. Once you get past 6 pm, it gets progressively louder. The tables have enough separation that it could be intimate and romantic - to a degree. The bar looked nice. So, if you're looking for a nice place to take your sweetie for a steak dinner, this one would get my nod of approval. read more

Meanwhile, nobody mentions that probably the best way to get your wich is by it not being a wich, and having it be a bowl. That's apparently unspoken but regulars here will tell you that in an instant. What do I like about which wich? You get absolutely anything and everything you want on your salad. What don't I like about which wich? Well, it's not really a sandwich at that point. I do dig some of the specific options that make a lot of sense and/or add flavor, namely that you can add horseradish and/or ground red pepper and/or spice as desired. Sadly, these named ingredients are far more rare than they should be at most places. This is worth checking out, but it isn't exactly my favorite place to go. I used to love going here. I started going here about 5 years ago. My two go to sandwiches was the thanksgiving sandwich. Turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce and the Wicked which is a meat lovers sandwich. All or most of their featured meats. I hadn't been back for a while probably for a year. So after doing a focus group survey I picked up a Wicked. At least I thought I was getting a Wicked. See how they do things is you take a paper bag which has the sandwich of your choice. They usually have one specific for the Wicked. This time they didn't have Wicked bags so since I haven't been back for a year I had to guess what the Wicked was. I don't do cheese on my sandwiches. So I didn't pick a cheese. I love their caramelized onions. So they have 3 different size sandwiches. The one I normally get is the super. When I took my bag to the cashier he said he couldn't make my sandwich a super but instead they can make it two regular sandwiches. Strange but ok. Half of The super fills me up usually. So when I got my sandwiches to work. I opened one of them and was I disappointed. They put cheese on it. No caramelized onions. The meat was shredded not sliced and oh so skimpy. I took maybe two bites and gave the rest to a homeless person. Calls to the restaurant were unsuccessful. Even emails to corporate were unsuccessful. You might ask why am I taking this to corporate? Because I was a regular customer for 5 years and had great experiences but this visit was horrible. The bacon was half cooked. Food poisoning risk. The sandwich was not toasted. I had provolone, spicy mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, and vinegar with mine. The portions were very generous! I've been there multiple times and the waits were never longer than five minutes each. My one complaint is their sea salt and vinegar chips. My office placed a Grubhub delivery for 15 sandwiches - all of them arrived wrapped in foil. Gotta love that soggy, steamed lettuce, right? Strike 1. One person ordered the brunchwich, which was delivered with no egg. Strike 2. I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich that is missing the buffalo sauce - the most basic ingredient required! It was also supposed to have roasted red peppers, crispy onion strings, ranch and pepperjack. It was definitely missing 3 of these 4 things. There may have been caramelized onions, which I did not order, but definitely not crispy. "Sad and soggy" would be more fitting. Whatever they were, they're the only thing on the sandwich that had any flavor. No ranch, no pepperjack, no buffalo sauce. Just a sad, bland chicken sandwich with hot mayonnaise and steamed lettuce. Strikes 3-9. Honestly, I'm surprised they managed to get the chicken in the sandwich at all. I suppose I should just be grateful for that. Which Wich reminds me of a higher class Potbelly's in that you can add as many ingredients to your sandwich as you want! The choices were a little overwhelming to me but the end product was delicious! The sandwiches are categorized by meats. I picked up the bag labeled "ITALIAN" and checked off the muffuletta sandwich which came with salami, ham, and olive salad. It came with nothing else. Thankfully they have SO many choices for FREE add-on's. The only add-on's that AREN'T free are double meat, double cheese, bacon and avocado. Everything else is FREE! I added mozzarella cheese, lettuce, and grilled onions to my sandwich. It was super delicious!!! The olive salad was really what made the sandwich flavorful. Cost was $6.05 for just the sandwich. Which Wich is like a really glorified Potbelly. Lots of similarities, but Which Wich's selection is about 20x as much. You go in and look at a board and decide what kind of meat you want on a sandwich, each category has several options... Pork for example has ham and pineapple, bacon and ham, a cuban sandwich, pork tenderloin, etc. I went with Pulled Pork, which is actually in the "comforts" category not the pork. You grab a bag that matches the category you're ordering from, then go on the back of the bag and with a sharpie they provide mark down the bread, size, toppings, cheese, toasted or not toasted, etc. you want. Then you pay and wait. And wait. It seemed like there was a lot of waiting. The guys making sandwiches were really friendly with customers. Once I got back I devoured. The pulled pork (which I got toasted with cheddar cheese, pickles, cole slaw, dijon mustard, lettuce, and red onions) was way better than I expected. The pork was flavorful and not just a soupy BBQ mess. I'd get it again. Ingredients didn't seem to be nothing extraordinarily special, average. Regular 7" sandwiches are $5.45, Large 10.5" $7.45, and they have an even larger sandwich if you're so inclined. They also have shakes, chips, brownies, and cookies. Very interesting sandwich place downstairs in the basement of Block 37 on State & Randolph. I kinda dig the name Which Wich...ya know like Which Sandwich do you want as they have so many options. You walk inside and there is a wall that lets you know what sandwiches they have to offer. There is a thin paper bag under each genre of sandwich that you can write your name on (that how you will be identified when you sandwich is ready), and it also contains a bunch of free topping options that you can include on for sandwich...pretty cool huh. You can also express yourself with artwork on the paper bag if you like. Very nice selection of sandwiches here. I am a classic rueben lover so I got that my first time around...pretty damn good. Not the best ever but was worth the $ I paid for it. Sandwiches come along with a dill pickle spear. The next time I got the srirracha tuna sandwich which was good as well. As I continue my quest for the best breakfast sandwich in the loop, I can tell already that Which Which is going to be a contender. I ordered the bacon and egg with cheese sandwich (cheddar) and some salt and pepper. I am a purist, people. Lots of great things about their breakfast sandwiches- you can order them all day (yay!) great bread, nicely toasted, cheese that actually stretches from the sandwich to your mouth- no cheapo ingredients here! They bacon they use is also very good, and I thought ingeniously cut into very small pieces rather than big strips. Some fell out, but I thought it was easier to eat this way. It was wrapped in foil, so still nice and hot when I got to my office. The only downsides: I ordered the smallest size (7") and even without any toppings really, it is still pretty filling. Also, the $6.34 price is a little more than other breakfast options, but this will definitely hit the spot if you're hungry and/or hungover. 8 out of 10 stars! read more

Because you can choose wich-ever toppings you want, I get most things and my sandwich comes out larger than a Chipotle burrito. Which is saying something. If chipotle burritos are like footballs, the Which Wich sandwiches are like little baseball bats. It's a big, salty mess. For 9 dollars, they give you a paper bag with a menu on it. You can choose whichever toppings you want, and fortunately, they have a wide variety. Bbq sauce or mustard? Sauerkraut or lettuce? You can have everything! And I did. The result was a salty, sloppy mess. It didn't really come together, mostly because the meat was super salty. Though the workers were nice and the restaurant was empty, the sandwich still took more than 5 minutes (~8) to come out. I worry that it'll be even slower is the place is busy. I usually hate making decisions, but I love all the options I get at this place. You could order the Clubs sandwich every time you go and get a different iteration every time. (I got the cole slaw on mine this week. NOM.) Much better than just adding hot peppers to "switch it up." Even with the different options I've picked, I've never had a bad sandwich here. One of these days I will try a shake. Like the other reviewers said, you will wait. This is probably because there are so many options and not every sandwich is the same. If you want the same sandwich from Subway or Potbelly or Jimmy John's - go there. I find that if you either go right at noon or at about 12:45 you can avoid the lunch rush. read more

The portion as far as length is concerned is fine for the $6.25 sandwich, but the toppings are very stingy. I had the roast beef sandwich with blue cheese, caramelized onion, and garlic. The only thing I tasted was blue cheese and box-type roast beef, the onions had no flavor, and I'd be willing to bet that there was no garlic. I also tried the chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, and hummus and raw red onion. I ate one half cold and it was terrible. When I warmed it the sandwich tasted better but it was still a loser. Only half of it had onion and hummus. The meat is your basic deli counter meat from the grocery store. How it works: you choose your protein and crab that specific bag. Then you check off all your things you want in your sandwich. It's not the most amazing sandwich but it's a decent sandwich.
