    Which Wich in Bismarck ND
    Bruce K.

Quick and easy, Which Wich is a chain of sandwich shops. The concept is unusual - instead of ordering from a person, you take one of the paper bags which has been printed with stuff and then you use one of their markers to "X" on the things you want. You want extra meat? "X it." You want cheddar or mozzarella double cheese? "X" it appropriately. All the sauces, all the veggies, just "X" it and they put it together. When you're done, write your name on the top and pay for it. Bonus points if you use something other than your own name, like Bueller or Voldemort. Double points if people laugh. I got their "wicked" in a lettuce wrap, so lots of meat, lots of cheese and lots of veggies with deli mustard for a very low carb "sandwich" that I enjoyed. [Review 10573 overall, 341 of 2019.]

Which Wich is my favorite chain sandwich shop. The decor is totally fast food, but the sandwiches and salads are special. My favorite is the Gyro. It is made with beef and lamb, and is spiced just right. Give Which Wich a try, my guess is you won't be disappointed.

    Meatball sandwich

Stopped by at this new sandwich joint today coz the logo is bright and cheerful, found out today is their soft opening, the friendly owner's family invited us in and we had some of the best sandwiches. The ordering process was similar to a lot of authentic Japanese Ramen restaurants, you pick up a pen first, then you pick up a menu that is printed on the back of a sandwich bag, put your name on and start customizing your sandwich by marking the options on the back of the sandwich bag, you then hand the cashier your sandwich bag and wait for your name to be called. The staff clip your sandwich bag on a zip line, as your sandwich bag slowly moves to the left, you know your sandwich is getting closer to you. The quality of the bread is superior, crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. I had the honor to order the first "SUPER" WICKED sandwich. It was delicious! We will definitely come back! Came back for more superior sandwich, Banh mi was really good! Meatball grinder was the bomb!

I initially wasn't too excited about our family choosing a chain sandwich shop as a lunch option but we were pressed for time and it was near our hotel.

It's happened time and time again - the most recent being just last month, when on the road finishing out visiting all 50 US States. ND was my 50th. Anyway, while in Bismarck, stopped off at Landers and had a great experience. It was a simple lunch - An Italian sub and a cup of soup. Tossed in chips and a salad too. Getting ahead of myself. It's in the building of a gas station. One side is the convenience store the other is Landers. Counter where your food is made to order and seating. It's not table service - walk up to the counter, order and find a seat. Your food will be brought to you. When you're done, head to register to pay the bill. It's not easy to capture how tasty my meal was with words. But as I've said a countless number of times, if our tastes align, you'll love this place. Everything from the bun, to the soup and chips. I devoured it all leaving the salad for my friend. I especially enjoyed how the sub's ingredients were evenly loaded. Had a taste of it all in every bite. Unlike other experiences where it's all lettuce or the sauce is overpowering. The chips weren't too greasy or salty and the soup was just tied everything together. Obviously I'm not a regular but I know if I lived in the area, I would be and then some. Definitely the duke. If you're in the area, it's definitely a must.

**July 2025: Thursday Afternoon Visit**…read more Look, I know a lot of people will give me a hard time for ranking gas station food five stars, but this store is well deserved. Also the hours are 10am-3pm, which are much shorter than the gas station hours (I only know because I came back the next day lol). The deli has everything made to order so it's as fresh as it gets! I ordered a half sammy and soup combo ($13.99) w/ fountain drink, as well as a salad entree because I couldn't decide what to order. They brought the food to me at the table and quickly realized that it was way too much food. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it all. The sandwich bread had a nice chew to it and the ratio of all the ingredients were well balanced. As for the soup it was flavorful, not too salty, and just made me feel all warm inside. I really liked the micro greens in the salad as well as the slices of fresh avocado. While it's located inside a gas station, it really acts like an independent deli shop that has a good steady flow of customers. I wish we had a shop like this back home because I would definitely be a regular!

They have everything from simple Bavarian cream to guava and mango flavor! It's hard to choose but my favorite is the mango donut, a simple glazed donuts full of fresh mango filling, it's heaven! We met one of the employees of the bakery and he told us how they make sure to have quality ingredients and make sure nothing is old and stale. They also make Cuban and Puerto Rican sandwiches if you want something savory, he said to call him ahead of time so that we can have something fresh right when we eat. So thankful to have a diverse local business!

From the moment we wandered in, the owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. Not only did he explain what every dessert in the case was and how it was made, he let us try their fresh baked breads and described their sandwiches and the grocery area of the store as well! It was a personal tour and we were so grateful! One of my friends has family in Mexico/travels there frequently and was delighted to find some of her favorite soda as well as desserts (albeit with different names) here. And she left well stocked! Of course I had to ask if they had a vegetarian sandwich (as he was describing how they make their sandwich meat) and he paused a beat and then exclaimed, "That's not latin!" Oh it was so funny, we all had a great laugh! He went on to say he'd be happy to put some veggies on a sandwich for me if I wanted. We did ask how he came to North Dakota and he explained it was because of the hurricane in Puerto Rico awhile back. We told him how happy we were he chose Bismarck of all places. It can't be easy! We all left loaded down with bakery boxes and items from the grocery portion of the store. And were all delighted at how amazing their prices were! Seriously - this place has great prices. I got tres leches, a giant slab of the most amazing vanilla cake, a cup of what tasted like horchata that was a cross between pudding/jello in texture, and a cork screw shaped pastry filled with bavarian cream that I've seen reviewers call a cannoli but he was specific in the fact that it was absolutely not a cannoli. (I believe he called it a quesito but I could be wrong.) The owner also stressed that the desserts in the case change in variety daily so what may be there one day won't be there the next. All in all - this business is fantastic in every way (right down to the fact that the room was absolutely spotless and sparkling clean) and we will be back next time we are in Bismarck! Please turn out and support this wonderful new business!

Anima Cucina is such a cute spot in Bismarck. I was greeted right away and seated promptly, and the…read moreservice throughout the meal was warm, friendly, and attentive. For a small restaurant, they also have an impressive wine selection. We started with the garlic bread, hot olives, and meatballs -- all of which were flavorful, balanced, and absolutely delicious. For entrées, our table had the breaded walleye, the Bolognese pasta, and the Porchetta. The walleye and Bolognese were outstanding, but unfortunately the Porchetta was a big letdown. The skin was chewy rather than crisp, with a thick layer of unrendered fat beneath it, and most concerning, it still had visible pig hair. I was expecting the classic combination of crackling skin, melting fat, and tender pork, but instead it was oddly undercooked on the outside, dry inside, and after biting into hair, I really lost my appetite for it. We finished with tiramisu and a torte, and both desserts were excellent -- a strong way to end the meal. Overall, Anima Cucina has a lot going for it: charming atmosphere, friendly staff, great starters, and standout entrées (other than the Porchetta). I'd happily return for the appetizers, pasta, fish, and desserts, but I'd avoid the Porchetta based on my experience.
