Stopped in the Saturday of the car show. So we expected to wait, but we're seated immediately. Unfortunately that's about the only thing that went right. Server stopped to take our drink order about 10 minutes later. Drinks arrived and we placed our very simple scoop and serve orders of pulled pork. Then we waited. And waited. Watched as others who ordered 30 minutes after us received their food. I was in the restaurant industry for 20 years, and I know bbq is 90% scoops and serve. Asked the server and she said it'll be out in 2 minutes. (Standard response). 15 minutes later my lady friend had had enough, as did I. Asked for the gm, who I assume wasn't available. Then our cold food arrived. And we were charged the full amount without any sort of apology. Almost 2 hours we waited for simple bbq. Here's my advice for the restaurant. When your kitchen or servers can't produce. Your managers need to "hold the door". Put the door on a 20-30 minute wait so you can catch up. Food was good and abundant. Loved the atmosphere and decor. My son ordered the chicken tenders, I ate a piece and am thinking about them now. The fried okra was excellent. I had BBQ ribs that I enjoyed. Even though I live in Atlanta, it is worth it to go back and try other things on the menu. We frequented "When Pigs Fly" fairly often when it first opened. At that time the food was fabulous and the staff were all friendly. it's probably been a year since we ate there. We went on Friday night with my sister and brother in law. The restaurant was almost empty. There may have been 3 - 5 tables occupied. We ordered onion rings as the appetizer and when she brought it to the table the onion rings appeared to be overcooked. We asked for plates but we never got any. My husband and brother in law both ordered Brunswick Stew. My husband had raved about how good it was the last time we ate there. Both of them tasted it and said it was horrible. Possible failed attempt on someone's side to make this. We also ordered the potato salad and that was not good either. The waitress offered the guys a chance to order a different side. My husband ordered the okra and said it was fine. My brother in law choose not to order anything as a replacement but he did express his disappointment. We really thought she would take that off of his bill. When she brought the bill, he said she really should have taken it off the bill. Her response was "yeah I probably should have". Monroe is losing good restaurants as many have recently closed. This used to be a great dinner or lunch option. I write this in hopes that the owner sees this and is able to implement some changes so that the quality of the food goes back to being fantastic food and more people will frequent the restaurant. We have met the owners and they are fantastic people who have put so much time into building this business. Me and my friends went last night and we very much enjoyed it! Our server was really nice and filled up our drinks promptly and continued to check on us a lot throughout our visit. I will say I love the homemade ranch recipe that they are using but the only thing that would knock one star off this visit is that this is the second time in a row where my chicken tenders have been different from the original recipe. Upon entering, we were greeted by a high-school boy probably working there on a school program. Thought that it was great that they were doing that for our kids. I got the pulled chicken since they didn't have any regular chicken available that day. My husband got the combination with ribs, fatty brisket, and pulled pork. We also chose sides of brunswick stew, potato salad, baked beans, and mac n cheese. Fried pickles came out first. Perfectly crispy and hot. My pulled chicken was moist and tender. Had some flavor. Smoke was very mild and almost nonexistent. Great with the mustard base sauce, which happened to be my favorite. I don't usually order pulled chicken but they didnt have their regular chicken available and we wanted to try all their proteins. I wouldn't order it again. I really enjoyed the brunswick stew though and the baked beans I prefer over what I've had before at most places. Not too sweet and not mush. The other proteins we had were all bbqd well. All tender, seasoned and salted. Though the smoke was a little stronger than the chicken but it wasn't too strong. As expected when using pellet smokers. Granted you can still get a good smoke using pellets (we own one as well and use it sometimes for a quick controlled smoke) but it's def not the same as a traditional wood smoke. read more

First time visiting and was impressed by the BBQ goodness. Wife had the pulled pork sandwich and you can see from the photo the pork was piled high. I had the brisket plate with cole slaw and brunswick stew. The brisket serving size was generous with a mixture of lean and fatty. The sides were tasty. The sweet bbq sauce was very good. Amber our server was awesome. She helpful, funny and attentive. Prices are very fair so I can see why this place was hoping on a Saturday at lunch time. Our relatives brought us to this bright and friendly place in downtown Monroe for an early dinner on a rainy Friday night. Warning - NO Beer! Barbecue without beer... enough said. Two of us split a 3 meat combo of ribs, brisket and pulled pork. The brisket and pulled pork were very good as were their sauces. The ribs were tiny and with very little meat. I am here visiting from Central Ohio. My nephew took me here for lunch. I ordered a brisket and pulled pork plate with macaroni & cheese and baked beans as the sides. My nephew had fried pickles and the pulled pork sandwich, my niece had a salad with a brisket plate. Off the kid's menu my great niece had two pulled pork sliders, mac & cheese with a cookie on the side. The salad would be my only callout as it wasn't anything to rave about. But we weren't there for a salad! The food came out quickly and was hot. Drink refills were given as well. The portions were plentiful. I also got a small side of Brunswick stew to try. The pork was moist and tender. Mac n cheese was good and so were the beans. The Brunswick stew had a good flavor but I like mine a bit more chunky. However, the portions from the first time to the second time was sorely lacking. The Texas toast was regular white bread that had been grilled.
