Yesterday my wife brought me a Brisket plate with a side of Burnt Ends. HORRIBLE! I cater bbq! The brisket was dry way over done. Nice little restaurant in downtown Monroe. Food is pretty good. My roommate liked it much better than I. She had the chopped pork and I had the brisket. Too much to eat in one sitting but boy, was it good the next day! Will go again for sure. read more

Ok I love BBQ, and my wife says I am a BBQ snob. Sadly she is correct so when I say that the Burnt Ends were great you can take that to the bank. They were nice and tender glazed to perfection in a sweet smoky sauce. Paired up with potato salad it was a great meal. I also like the pulled pork and I always ask for a 1/2 teaspoon of butt rub on the side and sprinkle some on before adding sauce as it really brings out the flavor. We decided to order take out today for our first time trying when pigs fly. I should start by saying that we are bbq snobs. My husband smokes meat so we don't often pay for something that we can make better at home. But on the other hand we do love a good brisket. Unfortunately, not many places consistently produce a good brisket. We decided to split a 4 meat plate so we could get a feel for many items on the menu. We chose brisket, pork, turkey and ribs. We also ordered the brisket fries. I was surprised to see that the $36 4-meat plate fit into a single take out box. Overall, I feel the meat portions were a bit scant for $36. (2 ribs...) now for the taste- The turkey was good, pretty tender. I wasn't a huge fan of the seasoning, my husband liked it though. The pork was disappointing as it was dry... pork is one of the easiest meats to smoke and dry pork should never happen. I usually order pork when at a new place because it's usually a fail safe. Not today. It was my least favorite of the four. The ribs were ok. Not a lot of meat on the bone but the flavor was good. The end that had the meat was tender. Now, the brisket--- that was the highlight for sure. Great flavor, tender, delicious! If they consistently out out brisket like this- we will definitely frequent the place. You have the option of ordering lean or fatty and that's a great touch I've never seen before. We ordered green beans and macaroni and cheese for sides. Both were good and I would order again. The brisket fries were good. They would've been better hot but that's not on the restaurant as I had an extra stop to make on my way home. Yesterday we ordered ribs, cole slaw and funnel cake fries from When Pigs Fly BBQ in Monroe. Everything was terrible. The ribs were terrible, soaked in a barbecue sauce that had something to spice it up. I had to order online and there was not anywhere to add a request about hot spiced up food. I tried to call them but they were not answering the phone. We tried to eat these rib but almost impossible. They had at least a cup of this barbecue sauce added to the ribs. Would be better to serve without this mess. The cole slaw was nasty. It was dark like it was old. Soaked in mayonnaise. It had some spice I could not identify. All I will say about the funnel cake fries is very greasy and not good. Our dinner was $46 of horrible food. Very disappointing. I had to rate one star for this to post. read more

OMG! LOVE! Great atmosphere, well done! Fantastic service-Kirsten was awesome! Manager/owner came around and talked to us. It was our first time so we experimented a little. Mom got the pulled pork plate with Brunswick stew and okra. I got pulled pork plate with Mac and cheese and baked beans and dad got the sampler plate with 2 meats (pulled pork and brisket, sides were slaw and beans. We also got the onion tangles for an appetizer. Fantastic on all of the above except the okra-it wasn't quite there for a country girl. This will be a regular spot for us from now on! With all the bbq places I've been to over the years this one is the best! Some places one thing or the other is good but not everything is, this place everything is really good! It was such a gorgeous day we decided to take a stroll through downtown Monroe. My husband saw the sign for this BBQ place, which we had recently heard was open, so we thought we would give it a try. The sign on the Main Street can be a bit confusing. That is not the main entrance. We found out that the Main Street stairway entrance is only open when there are events happening downtown. The main entrance and parking is one street back on Wayne Street (directly across the street from the Silver Queen). That being said we really did enjoy our lunch. I had the pulled pork salad and he had the pulled pork plate. We also had the Brunswick stew. All of which were very good, not to mention getting a decent portion size for the price. From the looks of it, I'd say business is pretty good especially at lunch when we were there. We will definitely go again! read more

So we gave this place a try and I ca say we want be back. The sandwich had very little meat. The wit was too long for a sandwich. It was over 40 minutes. We had to ask for our bag of chips. The coleslaw was an extra dollar but somehow it wound up being 2 when the bill came. I found the meat too dry for my taste. The waitress was nice enough but did not seem to want to be there. The Brisket (order it fatty) was moist and tender. The turkey was sliced too thin. The Brunswick Stew was good (just a little too much black pepper). Okra, Baked Beans and Mac & Cheese were very good. They have a discount for First Responders and Military. Worst food ever. Before he had an restaurant we used to go to his house and buy whole brisket from him. Him and his wife were so friendly and sweet. The kitchen set-up in their garage was super fancy. We LOVED getting food from them. First year we got a turkey and a ham. It was the best we have ever had. The turkey just melted in your mouth. But then covid hit. We ordered throughout the year and finding meat got hard and super expensive but he still had good quality until he didn't. He started changing too. They weren't as nice as they used to be. We ordered a ham and turkey for thanksgiving and it was horrible. Talked to him and traded it for a brisket and something else and it was good. So at Christmas the same year we got another Ham and turkey. It was ruined. We smelled something weird driving home but thought it was an odor in the car. We brought it home and tasted the ham and it was horrible. It was SO dried out. It tasted like it had been frozen. It had that frost burn taste to it. (Come to find out the ham was left over so they froze it and then added to the grill to heat up) so next we opened up the turkey and the sour smell hit us in the face. I almost threw up. It was a cooked ruined turkey. We cut into it to find what we think was mold. It had this nasty clear and brownish stuff come out of the turkey. (Ever smelled a dead skunk?) It was the worst smell we had ever smelt. We took pictures of it and then called Kevin. The turkey is ruined. It smells awful. He offered to give us another turkey we said no. We told him about the ham being like leathery with a freezer burned taste. Long story short he offered half of what we spent and offered to give us a brisket at no charge. We said no. We wanted a full refund. And that was 2 years ago and I never got any money back. He did try to give us a brisket and other stuff he made but by then we were grossed out. We did eat here when it opened. Well my stepdad did. It was awful. The pork and brisket was mostly fat and no meat and the Mac n cheese tasted like kraft. So disappointed how we were treated. He should have issued us a full refund. He said no other turkeys were bad. But who knows. Ours was rotten on the inside. read more

I came in through the back and was greeted immediately at the Monroe location. Our server was super down to earth, and relatable! She tended to me and my friend and my two daughters even though we sat outside at first and then wanted to come inside. She was very laid back, and helped us navigate the menu as we were there for the first time! I had the bbq plate and it was absolutely delicious. I also had the Mac & cheese and French fries- tried all the sauces. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Highly recommend the food and the atmosphere was phenomenal! read more

Why were WE not served? On Saturday September 17 we decided to eat at When Pigs Fly Barbeque in Monroe, Ga. I'm extremely disappointed over our experience. We were so delighted to know there is a real BBQ smoker in downtown Monroe, that we stopped and talked to the grill master before going in to insure this was authentic. He was friendly, showed off a few cuts on the grill, and encouraged us to go in and try the days specialty "the Dino beef ribs." Sounded great. But the friendliness ended there. It was obvious to us and the other guests that the waitress handling the section we were assigned to did not want to serve US. She was friendly and talkative to the table nearby - but not to US. She was quick to handle the service needs of another table - but not for US. She was so slow to wait on US that I threw up my hands to the owner as she walked by and pointed to our empty table -motioning to the owner that we were not being served at all. Was this service double standard that we were experiencing? It sure felt like it. The lunch crowd had cleared out and it wasn't busy. "So, what is going on?" my husband said to me- "something doesn't feel right." After a very long and silent wait while the waitress talked to the table nearby (really, it was more than 10 minutes) - the waitress finally came over and took our drink order. Silent hostility? We felt it. And once she left to get the sweet tea we ordered - well, she never returned. In fact, another waitress noticed our frustration and the neglect we were receiving and came over to our table to suggest that WE move to HER section where she would happily and promptly serve us! Really? We had to switch seats and sections to get prompt and courteous service? Thanks, but no thanks. We declined the offer and left the restaurant. Our experience? We found the waitress impolite and her demeanor condescending. It was apparent that WE were not wanted in this restaurant by this member of the WPFBBQ staff. At a minimum she was providing terrible service, but frankly it was more than that. I hadn't experienced this disrespect in a restaurant in years, but I remembered that feeling. Not only did we feel that she was ignoring US, but it also appeared that she was refusing to wait on US because we are African American. WE did not feel welcome. We are local residents, active in the community, and like everyone else in Monroe, we want to enjoy all that this City has to offer. Quite frankly I'm mad and disappointed that this waitress on this day tried to set us back. Can't rate the food - never placed an order. read more

High expectations, low results! Seated within 20 min, didn't see wait staff for another 20 min. Served 30 minutes later.... Pulled pork is so so, low flavor with low smoke. Brunswick stew was bland, tasted like it came from a can. Fries were barely warm. Pulled chicken was bland, lacking bbq flavor. Salad was wilted....
