I'm had my lasik surgery here 22 years ago. They are more expensive than other places but I knew they would take care of me. Was worth it. I can still drive without glasses and I used to not be able to see good enough to find my glasses. They did have to do a touch up with the eyes but that can be expected. When I came back for an appointment I was told all done you don't need to come back. I told the woman that they were going to do a touch up. Oh. Then she went ahead and remesured my eyes for that. Thankful they take Medicaid, as it is difficult to survive these days, but I think they may only allow a limited amount of appointment slots or such for it, because you have to go through an entirely separate phone number and they act like you're inconveniencing them wanting to make appointments. Then wait months for anything-even if it's seemingly urgent. Or you have to call constantly and be on hold waiting. I am glad they finally added a callback feature-but it should be available sooner rather than having to wait on hold too long first. I just cannot figure out how you have to wait there several hours every single time before you are taken in for your actual appointment. read more

Billing! Dr. Fenton did a great job with my retina. However, I had a balance from the surgery which I paid in full last week. As anyone knows, WEC will not schedule appointments if there is a balance. MyChart billing statement now shows a balance of $0.00. I called this morning to make an appointment and was stopped as I have an $84 balance. Excuse me? Where? MyChart statement shows paid in full. No other charges, no other visits. I was taken aback and advised to talk with billing. Nope. Show me the charges....don't tell me. And you did not...not in MyChart nor on paper. I will follow up with another medical establishment. The doctor spent almost an hour with me after a thorough eye examination to try a variety of lens options since I have a unique prescription as well as astigmatism. I brought in my broken glasses to the Optical Dept. They had been run over by my car and were all in pieces. Colleen did an unbelievable job putting them back together. She did a fantastic job an was very kind and friendly. She gave us great advice for cleaning our glasses. I was very happy that I purchased my glasses there. There was no charge. There is also a young lady the greet patients and directs you to a person to check in you in for an appointment or checks you in herself. She is always pleasant and friendly. read more

My wife has been trying to get in because she has double vision and they have been giving her the runaround. She needs a referral,which she doesn't need a referral. She had to see a neuro doctor for her eye. She gets it then they she needs to fill out paperwork for the referral. It's been over a week. I do not recommend them at all. My adult son went here for strabismus. The doctor wouldn't listen to him and fobbed him off which lead him down a wrong path, delaying his treatment. To make matters worse they made dealing with the insurance incredibly difficult resulting in a large bill that isn't necessary. The reception staff my son spoke with were also rude to him. TERRIBLE STAFF There's hundreds of bad reviews I just saw today after a terrible experience. Don't go here- they hide the bad reviews- Had appt with Dr Jung- drove an hour to find out the appt was cancelled- staff didn't seem to care- I was told there are no other glaucoma doctors that can see my dad. I asked how did the appointment get cancelled- receptionist said they called to reschedule made a new appt and then doctor was not going to be in the office for new appt and they called again to reschedule made a new appointment and then they called back again and said the doctor will be there and to keep the original appointment AND then got to the doctors office and told he was not there on day of appointment. So they are very unorganized and unprofessional as my dad is 87 years old with glaucoma and cancer- 45 minutes to this clinic is insane along with all the rescheduling and then to get there and they are like, I don't know what to tell you. What a joke of an office staff. Now standing there with my sick dad they want to reschedule again? Are you guys kidding me? They said- we have an opening in 3 months- read the HUNDREDS of one star reviews- I have no idea how they got the reviews to show 4.8 stars? I brought my daughter to Wheaton Eye Clinic for swollen, red, irritated eyelids. She had already seen her physician, an Optometrist and been to Urgent Care - this was the recommended next step. I confirmed that was the reason for our visit with the front desk. She was taken into an exam room where a vision exam was performed - my daughter restated that she was not there for new glasses/eye exam. She was then taken to a second exam room for additional vision testing. Her eyes were going to be dilated - my daughter stated that she did not want her eyes dilated since they were swollen, itchy and irritated. The technician was not happy with her response and promptly put numbing drops in her eyes and continued the vision exam. We were sent back to the waiting room - my daughter fell ill from the numbing drops, ended up in the restroom, was sick and felt like she'd pass out. I got her juice and water, and we eventually ended up in an exam room with an Ophthalmologist, she shared again, what the issue was. He wrote a prescription and shared that we may have trouble filling it because of cost - if we do, to call him. The prescription was $395. This was on a Monday. He was called by the pharmacy that day. I called twice a day, everyday and finally got a response on Thursday afternoon with a more appropriate priced prescription - 4 days after the initial visit. Not one person listened to my daughter, the patient - they did their examinations like robots. Four days to fill a prescription is totally unacceptable. What a disappointing experience. read more

Our family has been longtime and loyal patients of The Wheaton Eye Clinic. In recent years their quality of care has diminished greatly. It now takes months in advance to even book a basic eye appointment. They are no longer the elites in eye health but instead just another assembly line profit based company. Even though there are still many top doctors at Wheaton, they seem to have lost their core mission and changed their style of operation in recent years. After my recent appointment last week - I developed a serious upper respiratory virus. It is not a walk in the park for me, as I also suffer from Asthma. In addition this has me quite upset because I am a fulltime caregiver for my elderly mother and go to great lengths to not bring something home to her. She is quite vulnerable to any illness due to her weakened state and numerous health issues. I was exposed to the sickness at The Wheaton Eye clinic. I have not been anywhere else before contracting this upper respiratory virus. The medical staff was not cleaning any of the machines or using good hygiene before my eye care. The staff is also quite abrupt with patients. You would think after Covid-19 their cleaning protocols would be even more stringent. But that was not the case at my appointment. Also the appointment times at Wheaton are a long and drawn out process. Once you finally actually see the doctor you are hurried through with actual doctor face to face time at less than five minutes. I will no longer be going to Wheaton. I am going to search for a new and better provider such as possibly Loyola Medical Center. The current Chief Operating Officer Justin Rokser and President Michael Kipp of The Wheaton Eye Clinic might want to take a look at their reviews on Yelp and other review sites as they seem to mirror many of my concerns and recent experience. There are many scathing reviews about their current mode of operation at Wheaton Eye. Sadly, The Wheaton Eye Clinic is another example of a once quality medical provider that now prioritizes profits over quality medical care. I will be looking for a new eye care provider. read more

Horrible experience! I went there for an eye exam at 9am. The tech said she was going to dilate my eyes. I told her I had a big day and needed to be in Yorkville after and asked if I will be okay to drive. She told me absolutely. You will be fine. No one asked if I had sunglasses let alone told me to take the ones they apparently had there. I was completely blind when I walked out and had to drive. I almost got in an accident. I called to see what was going on and told them the tech said no problem you will be fine to drive. They said oh no it takes 4-6 hours for that to wear off and the tech should have told me that on top of telling me to make sure I had sunglasses. I WAS TOLD NOTHING AND LOST THE ENTIRE DAY!!!!!!! I was not able to see until 8pm. I get two days off a week and they took one away from me. Unacceptable!!!!!! If the tech does not know what she is doing, she should not be there. read more

There Is no reason they should make you wait unattended to for an hour, alone, in an exam room. every time im here it's the same thing. I guess it's been a few years since I had an eye exam at Wheaton Eye Clinic. They used to be decent. When I tried to schedule an appointment today, just to get a new prescription for my glasses, the call handling system was an endless morass of menu selections followed by an extremely long hold - over 20 minutes where the same little tune played over and over broken up by "please hold" and "your call will be answered shortly" announcements. Upon reaching an actual human, I inquired about the last time I had an appointment there. She said they got a new system and my previous information wasn't in there any longer. OK, fine. She inquired about my insurance she told me they didn't contract with that carrier. I said "fine, I can just pay out of pocket for the exam". She says, "I'm sorry, I can't schedule an appointment for you because we don't accept that insurance". I said, "insurance won't be involved. It's a cash deal". Again she says she can't make an appointment. I said, "that doesn't make any sense!". Round and round it went. I finally just gave up and said I would just find another eye clinic. She says have a nice day. WTF!?!? When corporate mentality takes over, customer service goes down hill! read more

Friendly at the appointment but not thorough in my exam or organized in how they communicate with patients. It seems like in trying to be efficient they have lost all connection to their patients and someone dropped the ball. In my case they claim that gave me a full eye refraction testing but, as the patient I know they didn't and the poor prescription I received confirms that statement. The doctor, Dr Mullen, was far too busy to call me directly to resolve an issue even though all 6 people I talked to said it was his decision. Instead I had to talk to people 7 times. I was billed for a full refraction eye exam that I was not given and I called to ask them to remove it from my bill. What they claim to have been an exam was about a 2 minute process that I was told the doctor will do the full exam. But that never happened and the prescription they wrote on the basis of the 2 minute base line was not correct. I called to have them remove the charge because I had glasses made with their prescription and I could not see near or far. I had to pay for a remake of my glasses and for another eye exam, which showed how wrong the first prescription was. An offer to re examine my eyes didn't come until phone call #5. By then I already had my remade glasses with the new prescription. What was offered from Wheaton eye clinic was the following: -your eyes may have changed -You have dry eyes things may have just looked blurry -the glasses were probably made wrong - you didn't realize that an exam was being done So Wheaten eye clinic, I understand why you have an average of 2.5 star review. It may be time to stop shuffling people through the system like cattle read more

I'm sure that other doctors at Wheaton Eye Clinic are great, but I don't believe any of them could compare to Dr. John Pak. I have never, EVER been treated by a warmer, more gentle, more kind, more caring, more effective doctor. He took care of my issue, it healed quickly, and his follow up was reassuring. Best of all, maybe, was the fact that I never had to wait more than 5 minutes to see him. I said, "You're quick!" to which he replied, "Well, you did have an appointment." read more

The triage nurses and doctors at Wheaton Eye Clinic literally saved my eyesight. Around Christmas, I began experiencing some vision changes; when I looked to the right, there was a hazy half-circle obstruction. It persisted, and a few days later I called the opthalmologist office that I had been to the previous year. I explained I had sudden vision changes, and they told me they couldn't get me in until more than a week later. (If interested, see my other review for that Eye Care business in Glen Ellyn.) I called Wheaton Eye Center, and they put me in touch very quickly with a triage nurse. Based on my symptoms, the nurse wanted to get me in immediately. I saw Dr. Daily, who did the most thorough eye exam I have had in my entire life. Between different parts of the exam, he had me sit down at a little TV screen, and played some videos for me regarding torn retinas. Yep, that's exactly what I had: "torn from 12:00 to 5:00," so pretty severe and in need of immediate treatment. While I was watching a second video, Dr. Daily told me he was going to reach out to his colleague, Dr. Fenton, who does surgery. They squeezed me into the schedule, and scheduled my emergency surgery for 2 hours later. Needless to say that I was pretty distressed about the whole situation (and needing to figure out childcare and other logistics). Everybody was very kind and accommodating. Dr Fenton gave me worst case scenario options, and luckily I did not need the full extent of care that he originally outlined. (I.e. meeting to remain face down for 2 weeks with the use of rental devices.) However, I'm glad that he went over all scenarios. He also listened to and discussed my concerns. The only thing I wasn't initially thrilled with was that, immediately post-surgery, he was reluctant to look into any pain medication that would be compatible with breastfeeding, as I'm still nursing my youngest child. (I had to download an app and investigate myself.) I'm 2.5 weeks post-surgery and so far things are going as expected, with the exception of headaches that won't let up. Dr. Fenton and staff have been responsive to my concerns and have squeezed me in to follow up on them as needed. Not everything can be perfect, but Wheaton Eye Cliinic literally saved my vision, and I cannot be more thankful to the staff and doctors! read more

Dr. Blankshain is great. Their surgical center leaves much to be desired. Despite having each cataract surgery scheduled 2-3 weeks out, on each occasion they canceled the day before the surgery each for a separate reason. If they had their act together, they wouldn't wait to review the upcoming surgeries until the day before causing unnecessary delays. What was to be two surgeries two weeks apart, has ultimately been closer to two and a half months apart due to the surgical centers ineptitude with probably three and a half months until everything settles. And the entire time we couldn't have vision well enough to even watch tv because the "fixed" eye needs a new lens prescription and we're still waiting on the second surgery another three weeks out. I decided that the care I received from the doctors override the disdain I have for the billing department. Dr Williams is awesome. I'm a candidate for glaucoma and want to continue my treatment with her. I explained my experience with the billing department and she was shocked. As it turns out, I'm starting to get a secondary cataract in my left eye. Dr Williams told me she'd work with my when a laser treatment is required to restore my vision. She was shocked Dr Vorin didn't return my call from my previous experience when they sent my bill to collections, after I had been disputing a charge my insurance company had declined. The insurance company told me I was being overcharged. WEC was trying to bill a surgical procedure, when it was performed in the office. read more

I had returned from the UAE where I had two retina procedures. Due to work ending I returned to the US with the silicone oil in my eye. I scheduled an appointment to update the US doctor for the future removal of the oil. I was told that my retina was again detaching. I was scheduled for surgery at the Wheaton Clinic. There policy was that someone had to drive me and stay until I was released. However, my son wife had mastitis with a new born baby and they had a 22 month toddler. I explained that he could not stay and they would not let any children either. I asked to talk to a supervisor and why someone had to be there for the several hours. They said because I would be sedated. I noted for the two procures in UAE I was awake and they prefer no sedation due to my age and I would waive it. They said it was their policy. I refused sedation and since my son could not stay they refused to operate. Good it was not an emergency surgery!! Doctor Fenton called me and I was in general not happy and said I would find another doctor. The next day my sons mother in decided to come early from FL so my son could stay with me. I called the next day and the message I got back from Dr. Fenton was he supported my position to go somewhere else. I ask that he confirm that he now was refusing to operate. NO REPLY. So much for the Hippocratic Oath!!!! I did find another doctor in the area that could see me. He told me my retina was not detached. He used a method to scan my retina as they did in UAE vs the pictures. He said it gives a false reading as it reflects against the oil. He also said he does not recommend any sedation and neither of his two locations MANDATE IT. So fate was on my side and Fenton would have operated on me unnecessarily!!!! Several take aways: get a second opinion. do not get sedated, there are more risks for older people or people in general. The requirement to require sedation is just to escalate costs and to make money. I say for retina surgery GO ANYWHERE ESLE. read more

Terrible scheduling with extremely long wait times. Last time I went to the Naperville location I waited 1 hour and 10 min to see a doctor who saw me for less than 5 min. Today I waited over 30 min and left the Hinsdale location. They didn't call me for 45 min after my scheduled appt time saying they were ready. They have now lost the business of my entire family. Get it together Wheaton Eye Clinic. You used to have a great reputation and now it is one sloppy performance after another. Will not be returning. read more

Again disappointed with this clinic. My husband had an abrasion on his cornea from rubbing his eye too hard. He went to urgent care on New Year's Eve and they prescribed antibiotics because at the time they were treating for conjunctivitis. That night he was in excruciating pain from the abrasion, when I called in the morning they would not contact the dr on call because he is not an existing patient. They have several doctors I really don't think if you are true to your oath it would be outside of the duties to see a patient in extreme pain. I get it is 1/1 but there is only so much an ER can do. Unfortunately the staff's needs come ahead of the patient again. We went to Dr Davis from progressive eye care. She was excellent, she saw him that day. read more

I have been a patient at Wheaton Eye Clinic for 20 years and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else! I don't allows obtain my glasses at WEC, though I have and they are top quality if not just a tad expensive, but I always have my full exam there. Doctors and staff are wonderful!! Medical exam is covered by my medical insurance and the refraction portion you can submit to your vision insurance or pay out of pocket. The refraction is usually around $35. Honestly, I recommend coming here and not using an optometrist. Highly recommend this privately owned company! read more

Awful experience. We double checked that they would take our VSP eye insurance (and wouldn't bill us then make us deal with the insurance, we asked twice), then they gave my son an exam, set him up with a pair of glasses and at check out they tried to bill us the full amount (over $600). It's not about the money, it's about the inconvenience of dealing with the insurance after they promised up and down that wouldn't happen. Of the $200 they charged a child for an eye exam our insurance only covers $45. It was a terrible experience and after talking to neighbors afterwards it became clear that it was a consistent issue. They either are incompetent or using bait and switch tactics to scam people. Stay away if you're going to use insurance, their rates are higher than most and you'll be stuck with the bill. read more

I saw Dr. Sung today for the first time. He is an extremely intelligent doctor and very professional. My irritation is not with Dr. Sung but with the office staff who made my appointment. I was there today from 9:10 to 12:25. Over THREE HOURS!!! Ridiculous. The woman who made my appointment could have told me that since this was my first time there, my appointment would take awhile. But no! No "heads up" was given to me. To make matters worse, they dilated my eyes in preparation for pictures to be taken. I sat there for 30 minutes waiting to be called. Apparently the camera used to take the pictures was not working properly. Do you think someone could come out and inform me of the situation? Of course not! I left Wheaton Eye Clinic today EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. Whoever trains their staff needs to do a much better job. read more
