Their specialty burger is topped with a heaping scoop of the spicy, smokey, delicious green chile from New Mexico. It's fantastic. And with bacon?! Yes, please! This place has been having problems with their parking lot recently, and the dining room has been (temporarily) closed. But their drive-thru has remained steadily open, so who can complain? A few weeks ago my family and I ate at Whataburger on San Pedro and Basse. We sat in the middle of the store. As we were eating roaches were coming out from the block were eating. It was nasty. We moved to another table and I informed the manager. She came and looked at the area and said Nothing. We threw our food away. Before we left I asked for a replacement burger. She said "NO". As for the roaches she said they came from the building next door. I had to call the headquarters twice until another manager called me and said it was probably from the homeless that come from outside. Absolutely great location, best staff and service to the community during this critical cold crisis. We hadn't eaten a hot meal in 24 hours and went to this location where we had to wait in line an hour and a half for our food. The whole time we watched the General Manager and Crew rushing around getting new deliveries in to serve all the people needing to eat. Me and my boyfriend visited this location November 29th at 9:30pm. I ordered gravy with chicken strips. The person taking my order even confirmed that I asked for gravy. I also asked that the bacon and cheese whataburger meal be made large. When I pulled up to the window I asked the girl to make sure the meal was large. The Texan equivalent of In N Out. I honestly don't know which location I actually visited, so I'm just reviewing the first one that Yelp gave me. First, I need to set the scenario. It was a really late night, and after a night of fun at Acapulco Sam's, we were craving something greasy, tasty, and good. From our hotel we picked up a cab crammed with too many people and drove quite a distance to the long-awaited Whataburger. By 2:30 AM, we had arrived at our destination. Being from SoCal, one of us decides to ask the drive thru guy what the best thing to order is. "The What-A-Burger Meal" .....wait, really?? We then proceeded to order 11 What-A-Burger meals, complete with fries, drink, and of course, a double-double, two patty monstrosity. Poor drive-thru guy.... it was around 2:30 AM and there were only 2 guys working at that location. Oh, and it was a Sunday night / Monday morning. It took so long that our cab fare went up by $15 while we were waiting for our order to finish. Grand total = $82. By about 3:30 AM we had returned to the hotel and proceeded to destroy our burgers in the lobby. Were they good? Well, considering we had spent a good amount of time looking for the place, waiting at the drive-thru, and well, I suppose being inebriated may have played a factor, the burger was really pretty awesome at the time. I will say though that the meat was dry (the Ranch dressing came in handy, lots and lots of it!), but the fries were awesome, better than McD's and In'N'Out! Sort of a hybrid between the two. For a 5'3" girl, for me that burger was enough that by 4 AM when I had finished, I passed out soon after, and subsequently was too full to eat the rest of the day (save some beef fajitas and chips and salsa @ Rio Rio!) Overall, my Whataburger experience was a fun, yummy, Harold and Kumar-esque adventure. Will I go back? Never trust a local! What I mean is that you'll never convince someone from Texas that Whataburger is not the bee's knees. People here love it but should you? Whatburger is nothing special. It's McDonald's with a twist. You have frozen preformed patties and diced opinions. The burgers are typical fast food fare and not at all special. You throw a burger on Texas toast, well, that's a twist but it isn't earth shattering. Throw some chicken strips on Texas toast with some BBQ sauce, still not mind blowing. Anyway, in a fix, it'll do the trick. Definitely not worth traveling for. I'd go to McDonald's as easily as going here.
